Nice run-down of several different potty training methods, including Brazelton and Spock. Also includes some general tips and tricks plus a list of common misconceptions. Good for folks trying to figure out which method might be right for them. The only thing I really disagreed with in this book was the author's request that parents come up with a "comfortable to say in public" word for their kid's genitals...I get that if we're talking about your poop and pee words (although for me, what's wrong with poop and pee?) but genitals are a matter of safety, and the authors' position that encouraging children to use anatomical words such as penis and vulva haven't really been shown to make kids safer seems sketchy to me. They go so far as to include a list of silly code words for genitals, which is just absolutely horrible to me. Sure, the way to end child abuse is for abusers to stop hurting kids, but let's be real that we all want to do whatever we possibly can to protect our babies, and if giving them real words and talking frankly and without shame about bodies can contribute to making them even slightly more resistant to victimization, more able to report clearly and quickly, or less likely to blame themselves, then great! Let's all do that, please. WAY more important than some prude getting offended because you named a body part -that's their problem.

Nice, easy to read, and gives a lot of tips. I guess I'm a little late in the game to be reading this if I would have wanted to try some of the shock tactics of the early strategies. But I found it helpful to hear about the different approaches and the things to avoid.
