Lincoln's Little Correspondent Reviews
gr 3-5 121pgs1861 Westfield, NY 10 year old Grace Bedell wants Abraham Lincoln to win the election more than anything. While looking at one of his campaign posters one evening, Grace has an idea that is just sure to help him win. She quickly writes him a letter and mails it. Will Lincoln follow her advice?Nice historical fiction based on a true story. The endpages of the book include images of the actual letter.
This is the sort of book I loved as a little girl. I wonder why I never stumbled across it before. The story of Grace and the letter she wrote to Mr. Lincoln when he was running for President is delightful. Most of it made up out of whole cloth, of course, but believable and engaging. I got this in a Betsy-Tacy book exchange last summer and I'm glad I picked it up today.
