The first four in the series were total fluffy throwaway, mostly only interesting if you are a fan of the TV series and are curious to see how the show diverges from the books (spoiler - Chuck is recreationally gay!) But this book is just out-and-out boring. Blair likes Serena's brother - fizzles into nothing when she realizes she still loves Nate. Jenny has a mysterious boyfriend - turns out that the only thing interesting about him is that he is not rich.I had a hard time getting through this one, and it didn't make me hopeful for the rest of the series. I probably won't finish it.

This review is also posted at http://readingnookandcranny.blogspot....And what bothered her, what made her feel like crying all over again, was that now they were broken up, she had no one to love, and no one to love her. Not that she didn't love almost every boy she'd ever met, and not that every boy in the world didn't totally love her. It was impossible not to.Seriously, what is it about this series that makes it so readable even though the characters are kind of terrible? It feels like we are rehashing old themes yet again, what with Blair still desperate to lose her virginity, though she's met her fair share of guys more than willing to take up the cause to help her out. Her latest victim is Serena's older brother, which does add a new element to the mix.Stone cold sober or just stoned cold, Nate still can't seem to decide what he wants. While trying to get into the pants of ultra druggie Georgie (Harriet the Spy, y'all!), he can't seem to stop playing knight in shining armor for Serena or lusting over Blair, the one he let away. And Blair still finds Nate attractive even though he cheated on her with her best friend (still can't get over this one, sorry!).The Humpreys are a sad bunch. Shallow Jenny learns her new boyfriend might not be all he's cracked up to be, much to her dismay after lots of stalkery moments (desperate, anyone?). And sad, loner Dan is living it up (ha) with his new internship of a lifetime. Turns out, he can't even mail letters properly. I guess once you get a bit of an ego, or get a taste of the privileged life, you're too good to do the remedial tasks we all start off doing.I definitely love to hate and hate to love these characters. They are so unrelatable on the surface, and yet there is one or two characteristics in each of them I can strike a chord with. But, again, I'm glad I don't have any of their lives. I am definitely not a drama mama. But I so enjoyed the interactions that the additions of Georgie and Chuck added to this installment in the series. Bwhahaha.

In the novel "I Like it like that" by Cecily von Ziegesar she creates a intriguing mystery. In a circle of friends and unidentified "gossip girl" makes a blog revealing secrets and keeping her subscribers in the loop. Ziegesar uses the "gossip girl" to carry on the plot and create fuss.At a busy time time in characters lives, because of picking schools, a blog appears with a gossip girl. She writes all the latest drama in her friend circle and even tells embarrassing things, or where the person was last spotted. She even uses their initials to make it seem more secretive. She has different parts of her blog, like a Q & A where she gives her advice on asked topics. The group all coincidently, over spring break. After a trip that was way different from their city-life and filled of romance and drama it's time for the crew to face their acceptance letters that came in the mail. They never reveal what school each person got accepted to. The thing I like about the book Is how the gossip girl interacts with the people reading, for example she sent a thanks to everyone that came to the party even though they didn't know who she was. It made it seem like a real blog by adding the touch of the W & A and advice section. The thing i found that I disliked was actually be Serena is frustrating because she is gorgeous and the basic "supermodel" but is still i satisfied with herself and looks. It gets very agitating through the book but it's a very small thing to look past. Also, a few irrelevant people from the crew stayed back in the city which made it hard for me to decipher where the setting was in between chapter change.I 10/10 recommended this book if you are a girly girl who is also into mystery and drama. It's a perfect mix because it has teenage drama that has the intimate and romantic moments.

In the book, “I like it like that a Gossip girl novel”, what kept me reading was the interesting, catty, back stapping, teenage stories. I picked this book because I started watching the series on TV. And it got me interested and I wanted to see the differences. The portion of the book that was my favorite was the part where Jordy and Vanessa were on a date. The book interested me with the sneaky, evil planning, and back stapping things girls do behind even their own friend’s backs. This book made me feel angry, happy, shocked, amused, and disgusted. I believe the author wrote this book to show just how gossip can be. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes high school type drama! This book is already a television series and all the characters portray it well! I love each character I couldn’t really see it portrayed differently. My favorite character is Chuck Bass because he’s just always trying to come off as the boss and can be really mean but he also has a good side. My least favorite character is Blaire because she’s manipulative, rude, arrogant, and self conceded! No I was not able to predict the ending exactly bit I knew I would be left wanting to know more. My favorite line from the book is, “stir it up, little darling, stir it up.”

2018-10-23 23:39 trough the book I didn't see any progress in the story-line as well as the development of the main characters. The writing style is really annoying to me at this point, as well as the overall thoughts of the main characters. To me this book showed even more the lack of character-development and stayed with stereotype personalities then the previous ones in the series. The quote below is an example. Serena just met a Dutch snowboarding team on holiday. Quote:page 126: 'Jan laughed and took a swig of dark amber beer. "We are not always snowboarding. I go to university in Minsk. I'm studying to be a dentist". "Oh." Serena had imagined that the whole team lived together in a cabin on top of a mountain in the Alps somewhere, snowboarding all day and getting drunk together every night. She'd thought it would be cozy, being the only girl in the group. She could cut their hair for them and make French toast for breakfast. 'Really, REALLY?? ,that's what she thinks...come on. WOOOW, this book took me a while to read but it was totally worth it. Ohkay, so in this book Blair & Serena finally made up on their differences & they're getting to know each-other a bit more. But i have to admit, she's still a bit wild. (x & of course, college is coming up for all of them! WOOOW, i'm only through the 5th book & things have been going pretty fast. Just when you ask yourself 'WHY CAN'T TIME GO FASTER' it's already going faster than you think it is. Maaaan, i still wonder who the heck gossip girl is, 'cus she sure keeps the whole series going. I've also noticed that in every gossip girl book theres also either a break up & a hook up or both. (actually, there's ALWAYS a new hookup) I don't get it, how do they move on so fast? Jenny was with Nate just a few books back & now she's already with someone new. & Blaire, Serena & Nate! When will they ever settle on just that one person? A bit picky, i would have to say. Agh~ all this hooking up is getting a bit annoying. Make up your mind, please? I'm just glad Serena & Blair are finally bff's AGAIN. ^^ I definitely recommend! (=

I heard so many people talking about Gossip Girl and how cool it was that I wanted to check it out, after being immensely disappointed by the series. Well... The books are, at least this one, are not better! The plot was absent and uneventful. The characters boring and annoying. I found nothing positive to say about it and I will absolutely not read any others.

I felt like the book was filled with new events as i got closer to the end. Those guys traveling to beautiful places during spring break, but the only issue is Blair not wanting to go with a certain family member. Every teenager traveling had an issue which came with a lot more problems. But over all the book was very joyful and the climax extremely unexpected. what was totally unexpected was for a character named Vanessa to almost get arrest naked. Talk about situational irony.Blair on the other hand faced a lot of growing up issues. She still didn't know what school she would be attending and he mother was pregnant at the time. But things later on made Blair come to peace with that. But to give more vivid details we can start from the beginning. since it's spring break and all the teenagers are looking for things to do; they started to wait by the mailbox for a certain letter to come. Blair also has a best friend Serena who has everything any teenager would want but obviously it wasn't enough her. Serena was rich and she also had a modeling career and dudes loved the sight of her but it didn't faze her. Serena and Blair end up moving together and as they're making their way home, they see 2 old flames. Erik, who is on the snowboarding team and Nate, who is on the Lacrosse team mess with Blair and Serena. All of them just so happen to end in in sun valley then things get a little bumpy. All of this going on and Gossip girl is supposed to reveal her identity. but while being around Nate she decides to remain anonymous. She also has parties for people to come talk with her but remains anonymous while sending a message to the people there. She continued to compare men and women in certain scenario's. Also giving code words or letters to people she saw at the party. Spring break starts to be coming to an end and acceptance letters are still being waiting on. Many of them still had no clue what to do for school, some weren't even worried. But gossip girl and her glam squad filled the book with their fabulous and delicious details that complete the series. Which in my opinion was the main eye catcher for the book!

In 'I Like It Like That', queen bee Blair and beautiful Serena are finally friends again. As they embark on a skiing trip together with Erik (Serena's older brother), Nate and Georgina (Nate's wayward girlfriend), they realize that perhaps the one they long to be with aren't right for them after all. Will they be able to sort out their feelings or will they continue drowning in sorrow?I found this installment to be more heavily focused on romance compared to the previous books. Blair started to get interested in Erik after moving into his room. As sparks began to fly, Serena felt lonely and left out even though a certain someone had his eye on her the whole time. Serena was incredibly self-absorbed as she lamented over losing the spotlight to Blair who captured her brother's attention. As a result, she came across as immature and spoiled but thankfully she didn't cross over to the mean territory.Blair was a lot more lively which applies whenever she stops being hung over Nate. Nate showed more character growth yet again as he continued to stay on the path of the straight and narrow while Georgina continued to shock and surprise everyone else with her antics. Despite clearly needing to spend her lifetime in rehab, she was easily the most interesting character. Meanwhile, Dan's internship at the well-known Red Letter company was my favourite part of the story. It was hilarious. Who knew Dan could be so rebellious?Overall, 'I Like It Like That' featured several storylines that fleshed out a couple of characters. It was certainly a quick, fun-filled read.

Spring Break is coming up and everyone has something to do. Serena and her family are going to Sun Valley to go skiing. Blair and her family are going to the North Shore in Hawaii but Blair gets invited to Sun Valley by Serena and goes with her instead. Nate and his girlfriend Georgie will also be in Sun Valley. And surprise surprise! Chuck Bass is also there. Jenny is so wrapped up in her new boyfriend Leo, but she feels he may be hiding something from her. Dan gets a job at Red Letter, a literary journal and Vanessa's parents are visiting but they don't know anything about her getting an early acceptance to NYU or that she enjoys film. This book was just not my thing. I was bored and ready for it to end the entire time. Where is the relationship between Serena and Dan? Where's Blair's headbands and manipulative nature? What is going on with Chuck Bass? He's definitely not the Chuck Bass from the show. Dan seems to be the only one maturing. He quits smoking pot and is trying to focus on getting into Brown. Or it at least crosses his mind. Blair is still stressed about whether or not she will get into Yale. Georgie is just terrible as well. We learn that she and Serena know each other but we're not sure how. Jenny made me so mad when she found out Leo's secret. She's so stuck-up.This may have been the worst book in the series so far but I'm still holding out hope for how the series will wrap up.

I Like It Like ThatPLOT: Serena and Blair go on ANOTHER vacation. This time skiing which Serena invites Blair to join her on because she doesn't want to go to Hawaii with her own family. (UM what's wrong with Hawaii?). Dan gets a job at the Red Room as a journalist's assistant. Basically, he's a "girl Friday" but he gets fed up with his shitty boss and after some rebellious attempts, he just quits. After being tempted with a little lock lip from one of Jenny's friends he realizes he'd rather be with Vanessa. This causes bad feelings with Jenny's friend. Speaking of girl's Chucks on the trip with a bunch of swim team members and he's experimenting with his sexuality (The best part of the book). Jenny's suspicious of her new boyfriend Leo and wonders why he's never invited her home, but then when he does let her into his life she turns into Blair. And Vanessa's parents are in town. After spending time with someone so unlike who her parents would like for her she also decides that Dan is the one (This is immediately cemented after a gift he spends which is made for her). MY THOUGHTS:*I don't know after watching the whole series of GG and this book with Chuck just flaming gay "It's just us girls here!" is just TOO MUCH. Tho Chuck did say in the tv series "Do you think I haven't kissed a guy before?"*Sometimes I don't think Nate was the only one getting high. Serena and Blair expose themselves (butt and breasts) and their reaction. They aren't mortified. What do they do? Giggle and bolt out of there. Though I do like the fact Serena's supposed to be the tmos gorgeous girl in the series and she's a B cup. I guess there can't be two.*This also struck me as kind of funny. GG is quick to correct one of her emailer's and says their theory is far-fetched but in the same blog in her sightings, she herself theorizes a far-fetched theory about Blair and Serena synchronizing their clothes to malfunction at the same time. Which in itself is slapstick funny. This book amused me! Mostly because of the flamingly gay references to Chuck. I found myself laughing and snorting. What the hell happened to Chuck? I don't think I saw this coming as none of the other books led up to him being homosexual. I'm still wondering whether I can see the Chuck (from the television series) as gay. I applauded Nate for his decision to stop smoking weed. But then I guess the pull is too strong because by the end of the book he's back. And I have honestly seen this addiction in real life. Nate wasn't as much of an asshole in this as I normally find him. He comes to Serena's rescue and puts up with Georgie (even though she's insane or maybe he's just horny because there really isn't any chemistry between them. She'd rather be butt naked in a hot tub with a swim team). She's being all kinds of rude by basically ignoring him when she invited him there. Wait didn't Serena do this some books back when she was dating Dan and they went to college but when she saw Nate and they had to share a train she "mentally" ditched Dan? These chicks are so fickle! I'd be HOT if I thought I was gonna get some and then when we got there the person puts me off to entertain other people. Then what the HELL did you bring me for? Or at least let me know hey it's not gonna be just you and me here. But then Georgina is just STRANGE! But the fact that he even sticks around and doesn't up and leave gets points from me for that. And then I liked how he handled Serena at the end. He doesn't try to take advantage of the situation when she invites him to her room. Especially since he says throughout the whole book how horny not smoking has made him. It's practically in his face and he does the gentlemanly thing. I definitely like non-high Nate better. I actually liked Serena better in this. Usually, Serena just comes out ditzy to me but I actually kind of felt bad for her in I Like It Like That. What made me feel bad is that she's so insecure she practically throws herself at the first piece of male part she can because she's so desperate to have someone love her. And then having to watch her best friend and her brother. You have no idea how that is until you find yourself single and everyone around you has found love. I honestly hope that by the end of this series she does find it. Just like she did in the tv series. What was going on with Leo was so obvious, that it didn't take a few seconds to figure out he was a dog walker. How Jenny didn't see this makes me question her intelligence. And my annoyance for the flippant way Serena usually treats guys in this book goes to Jenny. So what he's not rich? So what he lives in an old apartment and his parents are old? Jenny and Dan are supposed to be the "poor" ones on the Upper East Side (in the books and on the show). So what gives her the NERVE to turn her nose up at anyone? Even though I thought Leo's secret was that he was gay. Oh come on you thought it too. Particularly when he was on the bus telling her the difference between furs. He was actually a nice guy. That he liked to email other than talk on the phone reminded me of today and how guys would rather text you than talk to you. BEEN THERE! But I thought he was sweet. Jenny needs a reality check. Dan was… Just because your boss is a dick does NOT mean you go throw his mail in the river. Sure you can *think* it. But that's your "job". That was very out of order and out of character for Dan. And I don't really think I care for him since he now thinks he's the man! And can I just say his poems SUCK? To consider himself to be so deep. I don't know how he got published in the first place. I honestly have no idea what the point of Jordy was. He felt like a waste of space for Vanessa to "play with" while she got her feelings for Dan together. Different to see Erik into girls and to top that off into Blair. I actually wanted to see them together because I liked Erik's character. But there's a reason Serena and Blair are best friends. And again FICKLE! They all toss around relationships like they toss around their money.RATING 6

:((( A few of the characters started irritating me , namely Jenny, Dan and Nate. And I didn't like how Chuck became gay then was portrayed as a walking stereotype, also his character changed drastically just bc he started fooling around with other guys which is just unrealistic. Also didn't like Elise. The addition of Georgina was meh, she wasn't anything special. Characters I like: Blair, Serena, Vanessa, Erik and Leo. Aaron was redundant in this but I'm meh about him anyway. The story in this was still as good as the last books but the characters dragged this a star down.

Maybe I'm burning out on this silliness. This one just seemed to read very slow and I wanted to slap nearly all the characters silly. Also - what is up with the way Chuck is being written? It's giving me the homophobia willies...but I can't tell if it is meant to or if this is just reflective of it's time and sort of poorly written.

We've reached #5 and I'm worried we're losing steam. While the antics of our teens are getting more extreme, it also feels more hollow than its predecessors (which is saying something). Not bad enough to stop my rampage through the series, but concerning. I still managed to read it over 3 days, though. Ha.

2.5 again. Just kind of going around in circles with Blair and Nate deciding they're into each other again after brief dalliances with Eric and Georgina. Of course Chuck got a monkey, coz he's Chuck. At least Vanessa wasn't quite so annoying in this book coz she had her family to deal with instead of mooning after Dan, and Dan kinda started to regret being a total dickhead to his only friend.

So, I read this book just to read it. I’m a huge fan of The Gossip Girl TV show, so I thought it would be cool to see what the books were like. They’re both definitely their own versions, with the same characters. It was fairly good, but it could’ve been a little better. It didn’t take me long to read it, as it was a quick read, but all in all a fairly good book.

This book was a lot like the TV show. Same characters such as Blair, Serena, Nate, Dan, Jenny and Georgina. The plot was a little confusing, because a lot of things happened at once. I would also say that this book was the slightest bit inappropriate. Overall, it was not my favorite book.
