I am a huge fan of this author, and this book had me feeling so many different emotions throughout. The hero is fierce yet adorably vulnerable, the tension and love scenes were...shall we say, whew (you might need a fan)! The characters are introduced here and will be focused on in subsequent books in this series, but they have all been introduced in such a way that I WANT to learn more about each of them, which isn't always the case in a series of novels. I just started book 2, The Alpha!

When an ultimatum is sent to a bunch of were outcast by the local wolf pack alpha, they have no idea what to do. Why, because they are not fighters, they are not aggressors in general they are not even confident if truth be told – they need help. With very little option left to them, they hire Daedalus – a powerful vamp to train them up in time to take on what ever is coming their way.In the midst of this little pack power struggle is Sugar, Sugar is a human who just happen to be friends with a pack of werevolves and now it seems a vamp. Sugar is where she wants to be and the only thing that causes a bump in her day is worrying for her friends and the attraction that Daedalus seem to have for her. With an alpha type vamp who has seen too much and bemoans all that has been forgotten now in residence – both the Omegas and Sugar soon start to feel like running away might have been a more suitable option than to stay and learn to fight. Daedalus however never loses and he has plans to make The Omegas ready for the fight of their lives.I love reading book where an author mixes up the paranormal species and right from a few pages into THE OMEGAS I was invested in the battle between The Omegas and the local pack alpha as well as their struggle to find a place for themselves on their own terms..The cast that Ms Nicholas put together was a nice bunch, with their varied personality and unknown stories – it made for a fast read and I am hoping that each of these set of people end up getting a story for themselves eventually. While the core of the book is actually about the training that Daedalus put The Omega through a sweet romance developed between Sugar and Daedalus and it was really cute to watch dominant Daedalus skirt around Sugar while still trying to play the bad guy to the outcast. Sugar was no sweet thing as her name might suggest – she gave as good as she got and I had to grin at some of the antics they got up to.I do like the plotline and I am hoping that with another book Ms Nicholas delve a bit more into this world that the omegas are striving to carve a place for themselves into. THE OMEGA book is a first book in a series and a short read at that and as such most of the small stuff kinda slotted itself right within a few page – the big stuff still needs to be resolved and I am off to read book two.

I thought this was a fun, sweet, sexy and quick read..I dont know why, maybe because every single vamp in other books, have long hair, but I loved that this one had a shaved head.. And with his ocean blue eyes..? HOT! We got some really steamy sex scenes, which I'm definitely not complaining about, and I thought the plot was interesting too.. All in all, a very good book, and I'm excited to see what number 2 in the series, is all about..

Very short book. There wasn't any chemistry between H/H, they just jump each other like horny teenagers. "Oh! look at all those luscious curves. You look like a 50's pin-up girl, baby" "Oh! and you are really, really muscular. Your chest and your arms and everything else. Let's have sex on the kitchen counter, you sexy vampire!!!" So not my cup of tea.

This book was an okay read, meaning it wasn't too bad but it also wasn't the best book I had ever read. This is a paranormal read which centres around a vampires, omega werewolves and a human. Due to circumstance the Omegas have been challenged by the cities Alpha (a fight to the death), their only option is to hire a vampire warrior to help them win.The Omegas are a soft group of werewolves who wouldn't do well in a pack so they live with their human friend Sugar (a quiet librarian), all who want to live in peace and just get on with their lives. when an ultimatum is given to by the Chicago Alpha in a fight to the death the Omegas decide to contact Daedalus ( an ancient, bald headed vampire) to help them defeat the Alpha. What ensues is training and a romance with Sugar, which is a little bit ordinary.Sugar is around Omegas all day and although she is somewhat accepting, she is less so when it comes to her vampire lover who isn't allowed to bite her. I actually found her a bit of an ordinary character, where I didn't know if I liked her or not.Saying that, this books is a short, easy read. There are also more books in this series and it would be interesting to see where it goes.

This story could have been really good, but it fell very short of it's potential.Sugar is friends with an outcast pack of werewolves called the Omegas. The pack hires a vampire to teach them how to fight so they can answer a challenge by a much larger pack. Daedalus, the vampire in question, takes an immediate liking to Sugar but she just wants her life to be more normal. This had it's moments but just felt incomplete and a bit silly at times...poor editing did not help. There is references to all of the characters' histories but no real stories so you never really got a good feel for them. The Accords between supernaturals the whole idea that they "came out" to become citizens...just a few things I thought should have had more of a place in the story so you could fully understand the world they were living in.

Believe it or not, I read this book after reading several others in the series. I had really enjoyed all of the others so it wasn’t surprising for me to enjoy this one as well. I believe this was intended to be the first in the series, as subsequent books refer to Daedelus, but we never really get to know him. He features prominently in this one, and he’s much sweeter than I would have imagined.I’m a big fan of Annie Nicholas and have yet to read something I didn’t like. This is no exception. It’s not her best, but it’s better than a lot of stuff out there. If I had one complaint it would be that the book was too short and didn’t delve into the various characters enough. Perhaps, the author will focus on other characters in future books. I hope so. Meanwhile, I definitely recommend this one, and I’d even go so far as to suggest you read it first.

After reading the Vanguards Elite series, I decided to go back and see where it all began. Its so funny seeing Eric as an unsure wolf because I got used to seeing him as an bad ass wolf paced read, not the greatest but entertaining all the same. Sugar and Spice...damn their parents were just cruel...

This book was too short with not enough character development. I don't have a huge problem with insta-love in paranormal books as long as there is some explanation for it and enough interaction between the two characters to not feel cheated. This book didn't have enough interaction or substance between the main two characters, I found the dynamic between the group of Omegas more interesting. Sadly, this book fell short for me.

Great Werewolf and Vampire series!I really liked this first book in the Vanguards series. A vampire takes on the task of training werewolves to be strong and honorable like they were in the past.

Quick short read. Not 100% sure I will read any more in the series. Sex scenes were ho-hum, didn't grab me at all. Characters were ok but not inviting enough for me to want to learn anything more about them.

originally posted at is nothing sweeter than Sugar. When a misfit group of werewolves is issued a challenge from another pack, the group of geeks realizes they need help. Hiring Daedalus Pal Robi, a bad ass vampire, to teach them how to fight is the only way out of the mess they find themselves in. Sugar is the human girl that lives next door to the pack of misfits. She has known Eric, the alpha, since childhood, and remained friends with him after he was changed into a werewolf and is very protective of him and his pack. As I read, I made a connection with all the characters and enjoyed the inventive twist on the werewolf theme. It is not hard to like Sugar from the beginning of the book, but when sparks start to fly after meeting Daedalus, and seeing her determination to make sure this vampire teaches her friends everything he can so they can survive the challenge made me shake my head and wonder if she was a little crazy. She won my heart and made me smile at her protectiveness for the misfits. Watching a shy human female stand up to a big bad vampire on behalf of the group of werewolf geeks left me laughing. I discovered, too, that a man with a baldhead could be sexy. Daedalus is like most alpha men but when he comes face to face with Sugar he falls, hard and fast for the little human. He tries to keep business and pleasure separate but there is something about this girl who wants to mother a pack of misfit wolfs that draws him to her. Daedalus made me dream of a big tough hero like him to sweep me off my feet. Even though there is some bloody and violent detail showing the predator nature of the wolf, the plot was entertaining and well-written. Ms. Nicholas did an amazing job of taking the old myths of werewolves and vampires and turning it into a new and refreshing love story. This book is a welcome addition to my library and I would encourage anyone to add this one to their to be read list.

Wasn't her bestI've read another book by Ms. Nicholas and this one wasn't her best. I don't know if this is a first book or not. I didn't really like the writing style and couldn't connect with the story.

3.5*** starsSugar lives next door to the Omegas, a pack of werewolves. The pack was created for outcast and geek werewolves who never belonged. The pack leader is Erick. Erick contracted a vampire named Daedalus to help his pack consisting of himself, Sam, Tyler and Katrina to fight an opposing pack of Chicago. While helping the Omegas, Daedalus falls for Sugar but he does not like mixing business with pleasure even though she is not a werewolf.I was spilt in the middle with this book. I did like the storyline but the execution seemed ok. It does not really take much for me to not like a book, but the whole time I am reading I was thinking this book reminds me of a Young Adult Paranormal without the sex of course. It came across teenybopper and simple even though they are all adults. However, I still found myself reading and feeling attached to the characters. Sugar seems sweet but Daedalus was not mean enough but he still seem sexy. If you are looking for a dark paranormal romance this really is not it, it is simple and corky at the same time ok.Storyline: FAIRIntimacy: FAIREnjoyment: OKEbook length: 1246 **********************"LIKE" us here -->ovel.junkies , this is our fan page dedicated to book reviews."JOIN" our group here -->100110777?... this is our group that has 600+ members. OmegasSugar’s best friend growing up was Eric. She was his support when he was bitten by a werewolf. He was the Omega of his pack, so he left it and got permission from a pack in Chicago to reside in the city. However, he was lonely without other wolves, so he and Sugar tracked down other unhappy Omegas who now all live in one apartment next to Sugar.Unfortunately, the local Alpha seeing the growing number of Omegas as a growing pack and issue a challenge. Eric decides to hire a vampire, Daedalus, to teach he and the others to fight. Most of the story is about Sugar and her growing relationship with Daedalus. She’s essentially the den mother for the werewolves – very protective and concerned for their well-being. She could deal with the werewolves, but the addition of Daedalus in her life worries her because she had a rough upbringing (the fact that she has a twin sister named Spice is just a drop in the bucket) and she wanted a simple, normal life.Bottom-line: This is a Kindle purchase, but it’s definitely worth the $2.99 I spend on it. I really wish the story had been fleshed out into a full novel, but hey, what can you do? Word of warning though and I cannot stress this enough: Don’t feel compelled to look up leather kilts in Google images after reading this. Seriously.

Sugar is the human neighbour to a small group of weak wolf shifters who got together for protection. Unfortunately the local pack don't like the idea if having a small pack start up in their territory, and have issued a challenge. Daedalus is a vampire who is willing to train the Omegas and help them protect themselves. He is fascinated by their human friend. This is much more about the vampire and the human than the Omegas themselves. Our heroine is very unsure about the paranormal world she finds herself in. A short but fun romance.

Despte the 4 stars, I really liked this book. It was funny. wity and never a dull moment. When I read a paranormal story there's a reason: I want my characters to be anything but human, I want them to have super strength, have little emotion and unbelievably graceful. Daeladus studders and gets nervous, what he's feeling shows on his face and he actually does get weak knees in the book but even though Daeladus shows human qualities it didn't really bother me as much as I thought it would. It would have been great if the book could have been longer and I wouldn't mind a better ending. After so much time of Sugar rejecting Daeladus then she goes half way across the world, walks in his house and !Bam! their back together. That could have been alot more creative. He's a vampire, he could have stuck her on top of the Statue of Liberty until she admited how much she loves him and wants to be with him. Other than that, The Omegas was a great book, I'm so glad I read it and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.

Pretty good book...a little short though. I found that I wanted to know more about the pack and their mysterious vampire trainer. I thought a little more character building would have boosted this one up to a 4 star read for me, because I really enjoyed the general story. I have the next one on the series...can't wait to see if it rate a little higher based on the fact that I already know most of the characters. ______________________________________________________________________If you like this type of book, you might enjoy one of these groups. The story is short and felt really rushed. I think because the author went into this with the idea of writing a series she didn't feel it necessary to build much on the stories of the character extras. There were hints but that was about it. I was told about the pack but not really shown enough for me to feel empathy for them. It would have been better had there been some interaction between the packs before the fight scene to build angst and anger/fear for the rival pack. Scenes of bullying, a kidnapping, an assault,... something. As it was I just felt kind of "meh". I wanted to worry and be uncertain about how things would turn out but I wasn't. That was disappointing. Just read to the HEA and go to sleep. Zzzzzz.

The Omegas (The Vanguards) by Annie Nicholas It is a Paranormal Romance with a pinch of humor and a dash of suspense. It was good and I very much enjoyed it, but I like her spin off series 'Vanguard Elite' better. While it is well written and moves relatively fast, the connection to the main characters was just a bit off for me. Because I have read and thoroughly enjoyed her other books, I will be reading book #2 in this series, 'The Alpha'. Knowing Ms. Annie Nicholas it will just get better and better as the series continues.
