Some subjects are so frightening that there is a de facto taboo on mentioning them at all. I understand, for example, that before Ibsen tackled the subject of hereditary syphilis in Ghosts, people refused even to talk about it, and the play prompted an outcry. In this book, Gunilla Bergström bravely describes what a small child's birthday party is really like. There is a myth, possibly created by excessive use of rose-tinted spectacles, that they are cute and fun occasions. Any parent who has organized one will know that this is a lie of Holocaust-denier proportions. They are soul-destroying events that are, in most cases, survivable. And, of course, they are socially essential. It's hard to be much more positive than that. The rest of this review is available elsewhere (the location cannot be given for Goodreads policy reasons) _______________________________________I've posted a translation.

We read the book in Greek language - looks like it's not yet translated in English. It's a lovely story about organizing a kids party for a 6 year old and how a kid actually enjoy better a small quiet party with his closest friends rather than bigger one with all the neighborhood kiddies... And don't we all actually? ;-)
