Blood Money (An Alice Worth Series Novella) Reviews
Then Alice walked in…There’s always a little part of me that’s nervous about reading follow up books from a debut author that I’ve rated high. I absolutely LOVED Heart of Malice and was completely sucked in. Could I get the same high from subsequent books? Is the author going to be a one-hit wonder? Maybe I just got the timing right when I read the first book? Well, even though the two books I’ve read since the first have been shorties, I still managed to get that buzz and finish on a high.Don’t get me wrong, I started, and I had some doubts. Charles is someone I’m a little wary of. He’s just so Vampirish… Of course, he can't necessarily help it, he is a Vampire. By this I mean he’s arrogant, obnoxious and a wee bit egotistical. Now, sometimes this can be quite appealing, and I have been known to fall for a few Vampirish guys in my time. It’s just that sometimes they can be so unemotional, and their attraction seems based solely on lust. So, I’m reading along and I’m trying to get some enthusiasm up for good old Charles, but he still manages to leave me cautious. The first part of the story, we get to know him a little better, meet some of his associates and get thrown into a mystery. It’s all good, but I’m waiting…WHERE THE HECK IS ALICE???I kind of expected her to be there from the beginning and I found that I was looking around every corner expecting her to pop up. Up until the moment Alice walks in, I’m enjoying it moderately, but I felt like something was missing. She honestly is the magic of these books. Her character is so interesting and every time you meet her, another little part of her gets exposed.I really enjoyed reading Blood Money but the one thing that really concerns me is that ending.WHAT THE HECK DO YOU MEAN, SEAN AND ALICE ARE ON THE ROCKS???(This is not a spoiler, it's in the blurb for the next book)Lisa Edmonds you better not be trying to lure me into an Alice and Charles HEA!! Sean is the MAN…well, Alpha Man…well, Warewolfy Man. Don’t you dare be messing with my happiness…I mean Alice’s happiness. They were so good together. Sure, Charles may come good…I best leave it up to you Lisa. I trust you…sorta…kinda…maybe (if you make me happy…I mean Alice happy).Stacey is Sassy, received a complimentary copy of this story. Charles Vaughn, a member of the Vampire Court, has his hands full with someone creating rogues, a hunter that isn’t strictly sticking to the rules and a mob of reality television viewers who have taken it upon themselves to help capture said rogues. When his usual mage isn’t able to help in the investigation, he brings in the mage’s trainee. This is serious business and Charles is reluctant to believe Alice can help in any real capacity. However, when little by little she opens the case, his interest and curiosity peaks. With her help it’s possible they might very well find the rogue-maker as well as the rogues and clean this whole mess up. I enjoyed reading this short prequel in Charles’ point of view. It gave us an insight into Alice without giving away her secrets and made me want to read more, more, and more about her. Not sure if I’m going to be a big fan of Charles because I really loved Sean in the first book, but it’s obvious the vampire wants Alice as more than a consultant. Now to hurry up and wait for the next installment in the Alice Worth series! This is an honest and willing review of an advanced reader copy provided by the author.Single POVNo apparent triggersThis does not involve a romance at this point
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review… and I loved it!!!!! If you like reading about vampires – this book is for you. If you like good detective stories - this book is for you.It was a good novella, with interesting plot twists. The part of the story is told by Charles, so we can understand him better - as a vampire and as a man. The two previous books in the Heart of Malice series were quite fun to read, but I was afraid the love triangle would be cliché. Now I think it may actually turn out well. Why? You have to read it - to find out.I will only say... Action!!! Interesting characters!!!Just one more thing...After the cliffhanger at the end I can't wait until next book comes out.
I was lucky enough to receive this book prior to release through my newsletter subscription to the author’s website. I made myself re-read Heart of Malice before I started on this prequel and was glad that I did.In this story, we learn more of Charles and Alice’s backstories, and it was great to get more information on those things that are hinted at in Heart of Malice. Whilst you don’t need to read this story you will WANT to, and I inhaled it once I started. Now, the wait is on for Heart of Fire.Oh, and there is a bonus short story about Malcolm that you won’t want to miss, either!
I always love these prequel type novellas and especially love that’s it’s in Charles point of view. Now we know the background of Charles & Alice. Can’t wait for more!
A Solid PrequelThis prequel offers a nice look at the relationship between Alice and the vampire, Charles Vaughn. It is written from Charle's point of view and explains his motivations nicely. It also sets up some potentially interesting future events.
I would like to give this book 4.5 stars. It started off a little slowly, but that was necessary to set the scene in which Alice meets Charles for the first time. I very much appreciated this background explanation of her relationship with Charles and his interest in her. It was short, punchy, and interesting. I liked the story and have already reread it once. I received a free copy in return for an honest review.
