She’s the ‘mall-girl’ of Bible times, a Moabitess who delights in the marketplace, freedom, and fun. Toi, a village stoneworker, is entertained by the challenges Achsah presents, yet he vows his heart will never be swayed in her direction for long and that she would be the last woman that he’d ever bring home to his family. Yet, who can predict how sorrow might turn a path and change a course? When Toi finds Achsah, alone and troubled, with little hope for her future, and scorned by others, he rethinks his earlier decision. She accepts the hasty marriage deal he proposes, yet Achsah and Toi are left with uncertainty and misgivings, and they realize that their ill-fated union comes at a cost. Are they willing to pay the price for their redemption? And will Adonai save them and their marriage while they still have a chance?...

This is the eighth book I have read by Kara McKenzie. Kara writes fiction with interesting storylines, suspense, romance, and biblical-Christian themes that always pull me in and have me coming back for another 25-page reading session to see what will happen next. The Heart of Moab takes place during the biblical Old Testament time of Ruth, focusing on the challenge of the relationships of the two different cultures of Jews living at this time in the land of Moab…in terms of religion, beliefs, romance, and tolerance. In all of Kara’s books, she crafts vivid characters that I get invested in as the story progresses. A gifted story-teller, with deep Christian insight into human character and what is important…Kara creates historical fiction that combines an adventure filled scenario, an accurate historical setting, with something valuable and thought-provoking to say about life. I recommend this book highly.
