Leading the Witness Reviews
Leading the Witness by Chantal Fernando is a sexy, fast-paced contemporary romance with relatable characters readers will fall in love with.Hunter is a top-notch lawyer at one of the best firms in town. He's been going to Riley's, a bar & restaurant, for the past year and has become friends with the owner. He has a secret crush on her, the problem is she's off limits a.k.a married, so he's friendly but keeps his distance secretly wishing one day Riley, the owner, becomes available.Riley doesn't know it, but Hunter will be # 1 on her list the moment she is free from the jerk who is her husband. Like him, she's had a crush on him but she is afraid of making yet another mistake. After her sour experience with marriage, she wants nothing other than focus on herself and her business. And she does try.I liked that even though the attraction between Hunter and Riley is undeniable, they don't act on it right away. The author does a nice job of building their relationship and the tension as things progress. The plot twist where Hunter finds himself on the other side of the bench, defending the one person he least expects was nicely done.Readers will find themselves rooting for Hunter and Riley as they explore their relationship. Additionally, it was nice to see the characters from the previous books in the series make an appearance. Their interactions feel so real that I found myself feeling as though I was part of their group of friends, and I'll have to admit I was a little sad when I reached the end because I didn't want the story to end. The end seemed a little rushed but it didn't take away from the story as a whole.Fans of Chantal Fernando will definitely enjoy this installment.
4.5I loved Hunter and Riley's story, but I have to give it a 4.5 stars, just because I was tired of hearing about how rare it is for lawyers to have tattoos. It's been a running thing through all the books and since it was Hunter being talked about, it was even more so in this one. I know a lot of lawyers who have tattoos.
Fun, steamy read that I enjoyed all the way til the end. Don't even get me started on Hunter *sighs and swoons*Looking forward to reading more from Chantal Fernando! Thanks to Simon & Schuster for the ARC!
