Following a difficult breakup in which her ex dumped her via Twitter, Dani meets two different women within a short span of time. Dani has an interest in both women, but in different ways. C.J., an up-and-coming musician, writes amazing songs, even a very romantic one about Dani, but brings with her a history of short-term flings. Is Dani’s attraction to her merely superficial?Liz, a veterinarian, is sweet and caring, a good friend, and could potentially be the ideal partner for Dani.Dani must look inside herself and decide what she wants in life. More Than a Song is a sweet, lighthearted romance that grabbed my attention and kept me turning pages. It had me rooting for Dani to realize what would truly be best for her. The small gay-friendly town in Georgia, Dani’s bookstore, the music scene with C.J., and the small-town veterinary clinic where Liz works, together created an interesting backdrop to the romance. The character of Frodo, Dani’s beagle, stands out - he steals all the scenes he’s in! Dani’s caring for him through difficult times for both of them was very relatable. Overall, More Than a Song is a great read that I’d recommend to anyone looking for a well-written romance.

Dani Roberts is a "handsome" young stud in small town Francis, Georgia. All the eligible women in town are trying to trap her into a relationship because she is sooooooo "handsome". Including newly arrived in town, Vet., Liz Springer. The numerous cliche phrases used such as (when Dr. Liz realizes she also has a hardon for the studly Dani): “Jesus, what’s wrong with me?” make this book one to miss.

Man, I seriously did not like the character of C.J. She's a pompous ass and Dani was not very smart for falling for her. I liked Liz but I felt like she was Dani's second choice and everyone deserves better than that.

A sweet heartwarming read!Everything you want from a romance is present in this story. You get loss, conflicts, passion, great friendship, strong attraction(s), a sweet-talking sexy singer, precious pets and so much more. The secondary characters were awesome, witty and endearing. I loved the main characters. They have real chemistry. The best part for me is that she finally found it, grabbed it and didn't let go. And that with my favorite girl. Two perfect women to be together. I loved everything in this amazing romance but I missed an epilogue. I can certainly recommend this book.

3 1/2 stars.. could see where the book was going, so no surprises. The relationship between friends was really nice. The dog, Frodo was awesome! Did not like CJ, but I think that was the whole point, she isn't likable. Overall a good beach read type love story.

Dani, a feminist bookstore owner based right outside Atlanta, is trying to get over her last breakup and a year later her life is thrown into turmoil when she meets two very different women. CJ James is a charismatic musician who is spending a number of weeks in Dani's town playing at a local club. Liz is the new local vet. Dani is pulled in by CJ's allure but knows down deep she is dangerous. Dani is drawn to Liz who makes her feel peaceful and grounded. Dani's zigzag between these two women is an interesting plot device for a romance that I really liked. It was clear that Dani needed to be with Liz and the author makes us root for that pairing. She also handles CJ's character sympathetically, even though her actions do not garner sympathy. Liz, of course, is perfect, though a little gun shy about relationships.I would recommend this book since Chris Paynter is a strong and experienced romance writer. There are some dramatic plot points that are used to get the two MCs to come into contact and I wondered if these were really necessary.

Chris Paynter can be counted on to write a great book. I've read everything she's written, and never have I been disappointed. I've laughed and I've cried when reading her work. She's one of those writers that can take you along with her. More Than a Song was a great romance. There was humor, love scenes, the problems of getting a relationship together. Really together. And one of the things that is perhaps most important to me - the characters are believable. I read the vulnerability of bookstore owner, Dani Roberts, and also veterinarian, Liz Springer. And a very interesting character - singer and song-writer, C.J. James. And a main character everyone can love, Frodo the Beagle. Another great book by Chris Paynter.

2017 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: More Than a Song Chris Paynter1) Realistic and well written. I liked the story and the plot development. It's a really good book that does everything well, but still is not the author best work in my opinion. Probably I would have give the book more points if i had not in mind some of the author works that are definitely more memorable.
