I love the title and the cover of The Fast and The Furriest by Sofie Ryan. This is the firth in the series but a first for me. I liked the idea of the mystery and theme that just how much you think you know a person is so subjective. This February 6th Berkley release is going to please fans of this series.

This series grabbed me from the very first book and it has been a true delight to read ever since. The characters, especially Sarah, Elvis and the friends who form a detective agency, are vividly written and are wonderfully engaging and entertaining to read. The whodunits are well paced and keep me guessing and wanting to know the outcome! This latest offering is even better than expected.I cannot wait to read the next in the series!I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

The Fast and the Furriest by Sofie Ryan is the fifth installment in A Second Chance Cat Mystery series. Sarah Grayson owns Second Chance in North Harbor, Maine. Sarah is refurbishing an item for the shop when she is approached by Erin Fellowes looking for Mac McKenzie (a part-time employee of Sarah’s). Mac is a private man who has not shared any details of his past. When Mac returns Sarah passes along the message from Erin. Later that evening Mac shows up at Sarah’s house. He was unable to find Erin and wants to tell Sarah about his past. His wife, Leila has been in a coma for two years from a carbon monoxide leak in their home. Mac was the main suspect and Leila’s parents sued for guardianship. While they are talking, Detective Michelle Andrews shows up looking for Mac. Erin Fellowes was found dead and a witness claims Mac was arguing with her before her death. Sarah with help from Elvis (her cat) and Charlotte’s Angels goes about locating Erin’s killer and discovering what happened to Leila two years prior. The Fast and Furriest can be a standalone. The necessary details are provided in the book. I enjoyed the author’s writing style. The Fast and Furriest is a light, entertaining cozy mystery. The story has a good pace and great characters (Mr. P is one of my favorites). I love Sarah’s business and her creative ideas. I like the interactions between the characters along with the scenes between Elvis and Sarah. The author is adept at dialogue. The mystery is nicely constructed. Clues are provided to aid readers in identifying the culprit. There is also misdirection that could send you down the wrong path. I appreciated getting to know Mac in this story. I hope we will see him again in the future books. It will be interesting to see what develops between Sarah and Nick. There are those cozy moments that readers love (cooking, going out, gossip, friendship, and family) as well as light-hearted humor. If you are looking for a charming cozy mystery with a smart main character and an adorable cat, then you should check out The Fast and the Furriest.

In the fifth book of The Second Change series, Matt past is highlighted. He has a major secret that astonished Sarah Grayson. A strange girl comes to Second Chance and asked to see him. Later the girl is found dead and there is an eye-witness that Matt saw her. Matt denied seeing the girl. Sarah, Elvis and the Angels feel Matt is innocent. They begin to explore the facts of the case to prove it. Will they succeed before Matt is convicted of murder? I highly recommend this book and series.Disclosure: I received a free copy from Berkeley Publishing through NetGalley for an honest review. I would like to thank them for this opportunity to read and review this book. The opinions expressed are my own.

The Fast and The Furriest is the fifth book in the A Second Chance Cat Mystery series.Sarah Grayson and the Charlotte’s Angel have a case that hits close to home this time.Sarah was busy sanding a metal cart when a stunning, mid-thirties stunning lady, Erin Fellows, approaches her and asks to see Mac, her handyman, that it is very important that she speak with him. When Mac gets the message he tries calling Erin but the calls keep going to voicemail, so he heads out to look for her, telling Sarah that he looked all over downtown North Harbor. Later there is a knock on the door and Sarah finds detective Michelle Andrews at the door and wanting to talk to Mac. Knowing this can’t be good, Sarah calls a lawyer, Josh Evans and the three of them meet with Michelle at the police station. Soon a witness comes forward who claims he saw Mac talking to Erin downtown. So, Mac is arrested for Erin’s murder and soon Michelle is taken off the case because of her being friends with Mac and Sarah.Liz, Rose, and Charlotte, almost known as Charlotte’s Angels along with Mr. P set off to clear Mac from the murder charge. With the information that Mac shares from his past, they set off to investigate a company that manufactures skin care products for possible mismanagement. (This is Mac’s story to tell, so I will let the readers hear his story as they read the book.)As always, Charlottes are very determined to have justice served. Once again Rose and Mr. P excel and also provide a few light humor moments.A very well told story and one that kept me in the dark until the end.I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

I love this fifth in series! It can be read as a standalone, but the others are not to be missed! I admit, when I read the first in series I wasn't captivated...but each one gets better than the last! So much so that I am eagerly looking for the next one. Typically I don't like cliffhangers, and even though these are minor in scope, I don't mind. They only make me even more eager to see Sarah and Elvis again. The mystery brings some stunning news to Sarah and Charlotte's Angels, the "mature and wise women" version of Charlie's Angels, and even to Elvis about Mac's private life. Mac has been Sarah's right hand at Second Chance, her repurpose and thrift store, for about a year. Mac has always been a bit of an enigma with the exception of his love of sailing, but these things were surprising.Elvis reminds me of one of my cats when it comes to his conversations. And his enjoyment of computer keyboards. The one thing that really sets him above most felines is his ability to tell if a human is lying, and doesn't hesitate to share the information with his person. Because there is no doubt in my mind that many of our pets choose us, just as he chose Sarah. The characters are delightful and witty, yet able to be serious and wise, elegant and intelligent when necessary. They are well developed, and I appreciate the lengths Sarah is willing to go to in order to enhance her valued friendships, including with her "fairy godmothers".The plot twists and turns are beautifully executed even if the truth at times is ugly. I did not know who the real bad guy was, or why, and was surprised. The end was satisfying, and I am happily looking forward to the next in series. It is so hard to leave this delightful set of friends and the Second Chance shop and of course, Elvis!I received a copy of this from the publisher and this is my honest review.

Another fun mystery in the Second Chance Cat series, The Fast and the Furriest dug into the shadowy past of Mac, the enigmatic handyman at Second Chances. And what a story it was! It would've made for a great soap opera plot even Elvis the cat could get in to (as long as it wasn't on during Jeopardy, of course.) When Erin Fellows shows up in town looking for Mac and is later found dead, Mac comes under suspicion after an eyewitness places him at the scene. Sarah's sassy senior friends, an informal PI agency calling themselves "Charlotte's Angels", kick into gear to solve the murder to save their friend.I always enjoy this series, it's a relaxing, light read and the charming characters make it feel like I'm catching up with old friends. I have to say, Sarah is stubbornly clueless about Nick's interest, maybe he needs to step up his game? I enjoyed their "field trips" they took in the course of their investigation (Stevie's alibi made me laugh) and it all came together for an exciting ending, Mr. P. certainly is a man of many talents. Overall, The Fast and the Furriest is a delightful addition to an already great series. This book can easily be be read as a standalone or an entry into the series, as any references to prior books are summed up nicely and it would be easy for readers new to the series to understand.

Sarah Grayson owns Second Chance, a shop that sells lovingly refurbished items, in the charming town of North Harbor, Maine. But she couldn't run the store without the help of her right-hand man, Mac, or her dashing rescue cat, Elvis.Mac's life before North Harbor has always been a little bit mysterious, but it becomes a lot more intriguing when a woman from his past shows up in town, and then turns up dead. Suspicion falls on Mac, but Sarah, and Elvis, know he can't be the killer, and they hope they can prove his innocence quick as a whisker.I fell into this novel by the sheer coziness of it. It was like visiting with old friends. But as the book progressed, and the story unfolded it I was more and more invested it in. What that means is this book is a real page turner, and it's one of those that I want to be reading when I was away from it.The twist in this story, which appears at the first, really grabs at a person's heart and brings on emotions that stay with you long after the novel is finished. This is definitely one of my favorite series and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher through the Penguin First to Read program.

I was in the mood for a cat mystery when I requested a copy from First To Read, and hoped for a well-written cozy. However, I didn't realize that there are four preceding books. Therefore, I found myself sometimes lost among a multiplicity of characters, both old and new. Sarah Grayson owns a successful vintage and repurposing store in the picturesque Maine village of North Harbor. Sarah has been aided by a group of older ladies who not only help out in the store, but help her solve mysteries. This time, an employee (and maybe more), Mac McKenzie is suspected in the murder of an old friend who came to North Harbor to see him. Mac has kept a lot of secrets from Sarah about his former life. Nevertheless, the group of friends springs into action to clear him. With some help from Elvis, Sarah's rescue black cat.The Fast and the Furriest has a number of plusses; the Maine setting, the close-knit group and a look at what it takes to run a business in a village like North Harbor. I enjoyed this cozy mystery and will be adding Second Chance Mysteries to my TBR list.

Yes, the sleek black cat is back, with his magical lie detection ability, who has to watch Jeopardy! every day, and whose mrrps and merows are well understood by his person, Sarah Graves. Love this latest in series! As in the prior novels, it can be read as a standalone or within the series. The characters, the plot, a touch of whimsy and wit, and Elvis work together for the best possible combination.Mac has been working for Sarah at Second Chance for about a year; he is excellent at helping select furnishings that can be refinished or repurposed. Second Chance is a unique shop that specializes in vintage and repurposed clothing and other items, including quilts and musical instruments. They work very well together, so the man of mystery that Mac is is perfectly acceptable to Sarah, part-time employees Avery, her nonna Liz, Charlotte, and Rose, the last three of whom are part of Charlotte’s Angels.Oh, the Angels? They have a space to work at Second Chance, partly so Sarah can make sure they don’t get in too much trouble as they investigate problems for their friends. Think of The Golden Girls finding the bad guys, a more seasoned, while still elegant, group of Charlie’s Angels. They are not old, make no mistake. Rose’s boyfriend, Alfred Peterson, has a PI license, and Rose is his apprentice, so to speak. They are good friends of Sarah’s grandmother who became kind of her fairy godmothers when she was a child.Mac’s life story is about to flash before everyone’s eyes. A woman came to see him who errantly gave the first piece of painful info to Sarah. Later, she is found strangled. Since a reputable source claims eyewitness to the woman and Mac arguing earlier in the evening, he is a person of interest. One thing Sarah and the Angels are sure of, if he says he didn’t kill the woman, he didn’t. Even Elvis, the feline lie detector, doesn’t give the “he’s lying” signals. But what about all the secrets Mac has kept….Sarah, Mr. P and the Angels, and Elvis are on the case. The characters are very well-developed and out of this world, fun to be around. Yes, they do get serious, especially when someone is murdered, yet they are rarin’ to go to get justice done. Sarah and Elvis are a great pair. Her store sounds like a fascinating place to work or shop in, and she seems to know what will sell, and delegates to others when it serves both the staff and the store well. She isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty, and can, most of the time, read Elvis like a book. The three “fairy godmothers” are wise, have great connections in and around North Harbor, Maine, and can be elegant or funny as the moment calls for. Give me Liz, Rose, and Charlotte any day over the golden girls! I also like Michelle and how Sarah and she are rebuilding their friendship, as well as Sarah’s admission to her teenage error. Sarah is more real and human when seeing her challenges. There are great descriptions of North Harbor and the surrounding area, along with tidbits of history that make the story more real. The plot has twists that kept this reader on her toes, and there are many surprises. While I felt bad for Mac and the release of details from his private life, it opens a door for his North Harbor family to be more empathetic with his circumstances. I am more than happy with the resolution, especially since I didn’t figure it out for myself! I love the behind-the-scenes look at a cold case. This makes for an amazing addition to an already fabulous series, and I highly recommend it!*OBS would like to thank the publisher for supplying a free copy of this title in exchange for an honest review as part of their ongoing blog tour*

Princess Fuzzypants here:I love cool cats. I mean kitties who are both debonair, charming and handsome. If you have read my reviews and interviews you will know I have quite a few of my favourites. If I had opposable thumbs I might even pin them up on my wall.Enter Elvis! I have read and reviewed his books before but he just keeps getting better and better. Sarah Grayson runs the Second Chance shop where she sells both antiques and consignments and repurposed objects. Of course, she would not be as successful as she is if not for her assistant Elvis. He is an eloquent cat without saying a word.He keeps Sarah and her staff and the group of seniors who hang out with her and call themselves Charlotte’s Angels. They solve crimes and they are very good. Needless to say neither the local constabulary nor the senior’s family members are happy about their investigations. When one of their friends, and colleagues at Second Chance, is accused of murdering a woman who has come to town to visit him, there is nothing that will stop them.It seems Mac has an entirely different life that he shared with no one that includes a wife in a coma and suspicions from her family that he had something to do with it.The Fast and The Furriest is a good mystery that is well paced, full of all sorts of surprises and twists with enough humour to keep it charming while maintaining the suspense.I will look forward to more adventures as each one gets better and better.I give it five purrs and two paws up.

This book continues the tradition of being one of the sweetest murder mystery series I read. It's not the plot, since cozy mysteries usually aren't immaculately plotted. It's the people. There are a number of geriatric spies in this one, and the narrator is their right hand woman. The older ladies and one man are wonderful. They hack, they follow the money and they interview the right people asking the right questions. They also never ever cross the line. There's a respect in their conversations, even when they're not sure if they're talking to the killer. Common courtesy is probably not something I should mention at all, but it actually is really uncommon, especially in mystery stories. So, in this book we come to know Mac. Who is hiding a probably predictable secret. It's complicated, this man's history, and unfortunately it comes back to bite him. But still, he has Charlotte's Angels, and the man is suitably grateful. I love this guy. Nick's there too, who is his usual grouchy bear, and yes Sarah, you're right to dither. He's a nice guy but not really Mr. Right for you. That's another thing - this series has the cutest relationships between characters and even when Sarah's having triangle issues, she actually isn't letting it overwhelm her life. Oh, I love this book, and I love Elvis too. Even though he doesn't do anything but be cute.

Summary:Before things even begin to settle from the Angel’s last case, life is heating back up.  A woman from Mac’s past has come to find him, and has important things to say.  Before she can see Mac, though, she is killed; leaving Mac as the obvious suspect.  In order to clear his name, the ladies need to delve deeper into his mysterious past and find out who might want him out of the way.My thoughts:I love this series.  I love the characters, and their interaction with one another.  I love the different plots, and how each book allows you better insight into a different character.  Being obsessed with Mac (a hot, sweet, intelligent Mr. Fix-it), I was super excited about this one.  He’s got some skeletons in his closet that seriously surprised me, but made me like him better as a character.  The ending leaves things up in the air a bit as far as this character goes, but I have hopes that we will continue to see him.  For me, this is a five star book.  On the adult content side, there’s some violence, but it isn’t over the top considering this is a murder investigation.  Like the rest of the series, there are some innuendoes and light ribbing; but no sexual content and no language.  It’s a very clean, entertaining and fast read.  I give it a two tops.

I would like to thank Penguins First to Read program for a free digital advanced reader copy of this book. This is such a great cozy read. I haven't read the prior books in the series but it didn't seem to matter too much. I know I was missing out on some character background information but that had no impact on my understanding of the overall story.Sarah Grayson owns a Second Chance shop and employs some of her closest friends and family to help out there. She believes she knows them well but also understands that they are entitled to their private lives as well. When a woman shows up at the shop wanting to speak to Mac, one of her employees, about believing that he did not have anything to do with his wife ending up in a coma, Sarah realizes she doesn't know her employee as well as she thought she did. With the help of the Angels, Sarah is determined to prove Mac's innocence and find out who hurt his wife. This was a quick read and really enjoyable. All the characters are quite likable and the interactions between them are cute and quirky. It's fun to witness the romantic tension between Sarah and Nick (especially when his mom wants them to get together!). I will definitely be reading the other books in this series when I'm looking for a light, feel good read!

I feel like I’m going to visit a good friend when I open one of Sofie Ryan’s Second Chance Cat Mysteries. I felt at home immediately reading that Sarah and her feline Elvis were discussing the merits of a sandwich she thought he should like because it was a version of his namesake’s favorite. Ms. Ryan is incredibly skillful at making the interaction between Sarah and her cat realistic and engaging. Other characters have their own relationship with Elvis, who also contributes to solving the mystery in each book. In this adventure, Mac, who is employed in Sarah’s store, Second Chance in North Harbor, Maine, is arrested as a murder suspect. We soon find Sarah and Elvis joining forces with Charlotte’s Angels, an unusual private detective agency, to help find the real culprit.Ms. Ryan is a very gifted storyteller. Her mysteries are always well thought out. Her writing brings the characters to life, effectively mixing dialogue and narration that brings you right into each scene. The pace is comfortable. Spending a relaxing afternoon, in a comfortable chair with your favorite beverage, is an excellent way to get acquainted with Sarah, Elvis and all their friends. It will be fun, I promise.

"The Fast and the Furriest" is a cozy mystery. It is the fifth book in the series, but you don't need to read the previous books to understand this one. This book did not spoil any of the previous mysteries. The main characters were nice, engaging people. The amateur detectives asked questions and looked into various alibis. They solved the mystery more by the process of elimination than by building a case against someone. I felt like there was a lot of filler in the story. They seemed to put off asking the most pertinent questions even when the person they needed to ask was right there. While I did guess who done it before the main characters, they didn't uncover the critical clue until nearly the end. There were no sex scenes. There was occasional bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable mystery.I received this free books as a review copy from the publisher.

Disclaimer: I received this book for free from First to Read in return for a honest review. This book follows Sarah, her cat Elvis, and the Angels. The Angles are a group of elderly women and one elderly man who solve mysteries. Sarah is going to need their help after her right hand man, Mac, is accused of murder. Mac's past has always been a secret but after a woman from his past shows up looking for him only to end up murdered. To make things worse a witness saw Mac arguing with her before she is murdered. It is up to Sarah, Elvis, and the Angels to prove he is innocent. This is the fifth book in the series which I had not read prior to reading this story. So I did have a hard time keeping track of all the characters. But I was still able to follow the story and I really enjoyed it. I am now going to back and read the first five books in the Second Chance Cat Mysteries.

I enjoyed this book. The characters were fun and the story progressed well. I did find myself wishing that I had read past installments of the series before this book. I think it would have added to my knowledge and understanding of the characters and their relationships with each other. Overall a fun book!Sub-Themes: cats, elderly friends, small town business ownerCan You Start the Series in the Middle? I did. I will admit that since the story revolves around one of the supporting characters, I found myself often wondering what had been said about him and his backstory in future installments. I got this book for free through Penguin's First to Read program. It wasn't high literature but it was entertaining and kept me engaged. I've read a few small-town-mysteries-that-involve-cats books by Sophie Ryan/Kelly and I enjoy the light read every time. She is good at world creation and has the structure of the mystery down. I always think I would enjoy living in one of the town she sets these stories in, although there is certainly more murder than is comfortable. I also like that the mysteries are self-contained but the characters in the town give a threw-line from one book to the next. Sometimes it's nice to escape into a small town mystery for a few hours and this book is just right for that.

The Fast and the Furriest is a pleasant cozy mystery from Sofie Ryan. In this novel, fifth in the series, we uncover a mystery surrounding Mac, Sarah's employee. While his history has been previously unrevealed, we learn in this novel about his wife, his in laws, and he unfortunately becomes a suspect in a murder. Sarah, Elvis, her cat, and the Charlotte's Angels group get to work to unravel the mystery. This novel reads well as a standalone and is well written and enjoyably placed. The mystery is the key focus of the novel, and the suspects are well introduced and developed. Overall, a nice read.Thank you to Netgalley and Berkeley Publishers for an ARC for this novel in exchange for review.

I love this series, and this volume was a great addition!!!! Reading it you are reminded about how much you love Sarah and Elvis and their crazy collection of friends and family, the whole idea of a repurpose shop, and the beautiful Maine coast.Within these great circumstances there is always a good mystery and this one involves Second Chances own mystery man Mac. This was a great read with a few interesting questions at the end, I highly recommend The Fast and the Furriest !!!!!!

Another Winner!Sarah & her geriatric P.I. “Gang” are back investing the death of a young woman. This time the main suspect is Sarah’s right-hand man, Mac. I found this to be an intriguing murder mystery with lots of potential suspects & lots of plot twists. Sarah’s friends are charming & definitely quirky, but they are also loyal & determined. Now if Sarah could just make up her mind about Nick.......

A good mystery. I liked the Angels and Elvis. I wasn't sure who was behind all of the trouble and was surprised at the motive behind everything. Mac works for Sarah. When a woman shows up, he finally reveals his past. His wife has been in a coma and now he is suspected of the murder of her best friend. Sarah and the Angels need to find out who really killed the friend before Mac is hauled off to prison.

Another enjoyable entry in the Second Chance Cat cozy mystery series. Sarah Grayson, aided by friends and by her intrepid cat Elvis, springs into action when employee Mac is accused of the murder of a woman from his past. Sarah knows that Mac is not capable of murder, and Elvis agrees.Light and fun.

The best one yet! This one left the gate running and didn't slow downthroughout the entire book. Absolutely loved it! Butof course, who wouldn't love Elvis!!! The story line wastruly riveting and totally intriguing. The characters weregreat and very believable. The only complaint I have isthere's too much time between each new mystery.Great mysteries, Sofie Ryan!!
