This book was amazing! Richard Crofton is my new favorite author. This is a one of a kind story and I was hooked from page 1. Crofton's writing flows as does the story. You'll cringe as some of the scenes unfold with Crofton at the helm. His characters are complete yet you'll want to know more. Being careful not to give away spoilers. You'll want to know how this group formed and what their ultimate wicked plan is. This was such an incredible story. I already bought the second book and I can't wait to dive in. Crofton's writing is a breath of fresh air and the pages practically turn themselves as you become engrossed in the storyline he has laid out. Some of the best writing I've ever read. Definitely worth the read!

Shadowing VictimsThis has so much potential. A well written story with deep characterisations, but so incredibly slow, despite wanting to, I could not carry on. This novel is also not for the faint hearted, unless you have a stomach for detailed gore you might want to give it a miss.

I couldn't put the book down. A sinister tale with twists to confound the reader, one minute I am horrified, the next tears of joy, followed by an anxious need to read more. The characters are delightfully twisted and yet somehow normal. The book engages the reader immediately. A must read, left me begging to know more.

Jamie had been raised virtuous, she planned to do great things, to make a difference. She excelled in every aspect of her chosen career path. She had great plans, and a fantastic mentor. One who offered her the opportunity of her dreams. She thought her dream would come true, but her prayers were not answered. Quite the opposite in fact. Jamie was only the beginning, the Dark Year is once again upon the Agents of Shadow, and they seek now to complete a rite which few of their expansive circles have ever accomplished, worse still, it seems there is no one to stand in their way, to stop them seizing this ultimate power.Richard Crofton's Agents of Shadow is the first book in The Keepers of White trilogy. It is not for the faint of heart, focusing around the dark and cruel ambitions of the Agents of Shadows. We see just how far power corrupts, and the lengths people will go to taste it. An immersive read that makes the reader question who can be trusted, and who, if indeed anyone, will step forth to quell the evil before it claims its next victim. Gripping and dark, with a hook that ensures you'll grab the next book. I look forward to reading more of this series, and soon.

This is a dark piece of fiction which may not be suitable for all readers. I am putting in my usual warnings ~ violence, torture, vivid murder scenes, human sacrifice, satanic rituals and cannibalism. The opening scene is disturbing, terrifying and disgusting. Wow! It is also powerful and keeps the pages turning. This is a gripping tale of a cult - one that could be practicing on any of our doorsteps. That's what makes this story so frightening - it's plausible. The characters are interesting and well formed. I love how the cult members are from all different professions including a priest (my favourite in the book). There's a glimmer of hope that a hero is coming in the next book. I can't wait to see how it plays out.Well written and well done. 5/5

On page one I found myself saying, "Oh, ew!" I was totally creeped out and disturbed... and that feeling just continued on throughout. And I mean that in the most fantastic sort of way. This book is a beautifully crafted page turner that will leave you shivering and looking over your shoulder. It's an amazing debut and I can't wait to read more!

In the interest of full disclosure, I received a free download of this book in exchange for an honest review.I must admit that this is not the type of book – a contemporary fantasy/thriller – that I would normally select to read. I was intrigued when I read the description and learned that the story is set in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It is not often that I encounter a book set where I live, so I decided to give it a read. And I was not disappointed. Mr. Crofton weaves a fascinating tale of good versus evil. A group of sinister, power-hungry agents hide in plain sight. Innocents unexpectedly find their lives in danger – without having any idea why. Are there any agents of good still alive to fend off the evil? Sometimes good is hidden in unexpected places. I found it difficult to put down. There are a few minor typographical / grammatical errors, and sometimes the language feels “clunky” to me. But none of that was enough to detract from the great story line, in my opinion. The story does have some adult situations and language and violence, so it would not be recommended for those that are easily offended. This is book one of a three-book series. I look forward to seeing how the story ends.

Wow!! A true psychological get in your head kind of book. The first book in the series does have a graphic death scene at the beginning, but it is so well written that feel you are there in the room as it happens. The many twists of this story have a very definite good versus evil vibe. I can't wait to find out where the series goes as the time of alignment for evil to triumph seems to be winning, but I have a feeling those that are working toward good have hatched a plan to take evil circle out of commission for good.

A gripping tale of evil, masterfully woven into the pages of this book. The writing is excellent, the characters well developed, and a book that will keep you turning the pages. I love how this book sets everything up and leaves you questioning what is going to happen next. I was gripped from the start and found the plot interesting. I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series and seeing how the story unfolds. There were some great characters in this book all well developed and although this book focuses more on the building of the evil characters, it will definitely hold your attention. The detail in the scenes really helps to develop the story and this is an author that knows how to build suspense and draw the reader into the story. A definite 5 star read with a lot more to come.

While not in a genre i generally read, it was an engrossing book. It's a very dark tale that establishes primarily one side of the conflict for the series. The characters are complex and very interesting and you get a very real sense of the menace and threat. The downside of this is that uneasiness of not knowing when to hope for the side of good. There is a good side in the conflict of the series though but this book's primary focus was on building up the threat and the author does leave a note in the book as to why it is structured this way and it makes sense. There were plenty of little twists and surprises along the way and it'll be interesting to see how everything plays out as the series continues.

What a spooky and dark premise! This book hooked me with the first scene. I've long suspected that dark forces are conspiring to take over the world! If you don't, you will after you read this book. So well written and with such rich word choice I could not help but be immersed in the story. It was tough to put it down. The only bad thing about this book was that it ended! I don't usually read series, but I'm glad I picked this one up and will be looking for the next story. Hopefully, I won't have to wait too long!

Good start to a clearly larger story If this book didn't include a section explaining why some plot points were started and went no where I would have had a hard time giving the book more than 3 stars. This book is a larger piece broken into smaller sections th st make up a full story. Personally I would have liked more resolution. That aside this book takes welcomed risks from start to finish band they work well.

Still not sure how to write this review but here it goes. This book is about how evil plans on getting power through a sacrifice of innocent for personal gains. This group of individuals isn't like the usual suspects an evil group of people~chief of police, priest, professor, student, and others to name a few. I won't go into too much detail because it could spoil the book. I don't like it when people spoil books for me.
