UnbelievableLet's see...the bad guys have 700 people working the mines and there's no uprising? The sheriff and his ma should have been killed long ago by his prisoners-made-deputies by their very nature. Having come this far, l am determined to stick it out to the end. Hope the next ties things up...this is turning into a marathon!

Short bookThis was very disappointing. The book was nothing but filler to sell more books! The other books were good reads that made sense of when to end. This was a revenue book.

Starting to dragStill worth reading, but the lectures on life are slowing the story down. Probably half of a book's action. Hopefully it picks up some in the next book.

Another great addition to 'The Blackout Series' by Mr. Akart! The Ryman family have finally found their friends and a place of safety in this grid down world. Now they can relax with people of a similar mindset in this new world in a peaceful and safe spot. Or is it?.....After all of the adventures, obstacles, and dangers that the family have persevered through, is their survival now guaranteed?Nope. Not at all.The depravity of a rotting humanity will always be a threat. And when the basic rule of law is gone....the criminals will thrive. An excellent story that kept me reading until the book was done! I just couldn't stop. The entire series is filled with such defined characters, and while outlining the violence and evil of a collapsed world, the story does not delve into vulgarity and curses. An exciting story that even my twelve-year-old enjoys! Now I just have to wait for the next installment.... Very well done!

The tale continuesThe Ryman family consisting of Colton, Madison, and their teenage daughter Alex, traveling in a beat up 69 Jeep Wagoneer, arrive at Shiloh ranch, following a harrowing flight from their Nashville home in a post apocalyptic America. For the moment, they settle into what seems to be a relatively safe environment. But trouble is brewing back in Savannah, a town turned into a martial law prison my Ma and her son Junior, the mayor and police chief. Fasten your seat belts for a thrill-packed ride.

One of the best EMP series I've read.I truly like Bobby A cart writing style. I like that the main character didn't start off as "peppers." This is book 4. I've read them in tandem. All of them I've had trouble putting down.

Absolute drivel. A mix of Civil War and 1970s Sheriff Buford Pusser history made into an apocalyptic novella.

A good continuation of the Blackout seriesShiloh Ranch is the fourth book in the Blackout Series by Bobby Akart. The first three books tell the tale of the Ryman family as they try and figure out what is going on in their quickly changing world. In this book, they find out that they are still "fugitives" while also learning to live on the farm and provide for themselves and the group that is living there.Akart definitely understands the audience in the Blackout series. He's able to provide information (a lot of it totally factual) in an entertaining way. In Shiloh Ranch, he writes a lot about what it would be like to hold up at a farm (or travel to one). He talked a lot about the things that they were doing in a way that made sense and felt completely real to me.The only reason this loses a little in the rating from me was because it felt like two stories where one of them was getting to be a little out of hand. Sure there will definitely be crazies in the apocalypse, but the "Ma" character is certifiable. I think that her story could have been spun off into a novella or another novel explaining who she is and why she's as nuts as she is. I understand that her part in this leads to what happens towards the end (trying not to spoil), but it still felt a little forced.Shiloh Ranch saw the introduction of a few new characters and they were all really enjoyable. Every new person from the ranch made the story a little more interesting and feel a little more real. To be honest, this book feels a little like it's an interlude story. One of those needed storylines that move the characters and story along to the big and crazy finish line.I was a little worried about the narration switching, but to be completely honest, I really enjoyed John David Farrell's work. He sounds similar enough to Kevin Pierce to where series veterans like me won't think "what the?" during the first few mins. And he was different enough that each Farrell felt like he really took ownership of the story by the end of it.Overall, I finished Shiloh Ranch in about a day (a few hours at night and a few more the next day), so I obviously enjoyed it. Farrell's narration was a change, but not enough to upset series listeners. And the story itself was a part learning experience and part "what the?". I will definitely be eagerly awaiting Hornet's Nest's release on audio. I think that Akart is building up to something big here and I can't wait to figure out what it is.

Must read SeriesBook 4 in Bobby Akart's Blackout series continues the saga of the Ryman family, ill-prepared for the aftermath of an immense electronic pulse caused by the sun. Action packed, fast moving action that will open your eyes.

It is really a 3.5 but because I generally like the series, I bumped to a 4. The Rymans have come upon a fantastic (perhaps bit unrealistic) ranch that welcomes them. The ranch owner and his right hand man have spent a lot of time building this to survive including indoctrinating their families, yet his son is pretty clueless to the point of being a danger. Also the bad sheriff and his mom seem to have a fairly small loyal group, yet the larger numbers of people under their thumbs as well as an underground resistance don't seem to be able to get rid of them. Clearly the ending sets up an epic showdown in the next book (I hope).

Excellent addition to this series! So much happens in this book that I was on the edge of my seat pretty much through the whole thing! I have come to like the characters so much from the way Bobby Akart has written them in the story with so much realism. So holding my breath in a few of the scenes was not out of the question! This is a great group of people that the Ryman’s have finally settled with and as a group they work together to try and insure the safety of all of them on their land. Sometimes that is harder said than done though with this being a rough time for everyone since the CME hit. With old antagonists coming after Colton, Madison and Alex after they had escaped them in the last book, the danger for the family just got more serious! Not only are they on the lookout for anyone trying to steal from them or worse, they must try and stay ahead of Sheriff Buford and his posse who will stop at nothing to see that they do their own type of “justice” to the trio. This is one series that you don’t want to miss. Not only because it is so good and well written, but because this type of scenario could possibly happen in our lifetime. Especially now with so many CME’s and EMP’s hitting the Earth recently.

Such a great series! This is the 4th book in this series and once again Mr. Akart has written a winner! Colton, Madison and their daughter, Alex, have managed to survive after a massive solar flair destroys the grid. Despite not having many supplies, meeting various nefarious people, learning to fire a weapon by having to defend themselves and not knowing what or who they might have to face every time they turn around. They finally reach Shiloh Ranch which an old friend owns. They can finally relax a little and take a few deep breaths. This is only a short respite because even as they settle in and make new friends, an old enemy is ready to pounce. This book has plenty of action, but nothing graphic or gory. There are many prepping ideas and instructions within the story and you might just find yourself stocking up after reading this book. There is a cliffhanger and it's a doozy! Waiting anxiously for book 5 now! Suitable for all ages. I highly recommend this book! If you haven't already done so, grab the first 3 books in the series and then read them in order with this one being number 4. Believe me. You will not be disappointed!!

The Outstanding Ride Continues!!!!Not everyone can be a judge in the plethora of books in dystopian / apocalyptic fiction,.,,.(but I try) Not every novel deserves a rave review. (But this one does.) As well as the entire series to date! This story just GRABS you! (note to self.... stop walking and reading... those pockets of air you trip over suck sometimes.)Bobby has done it again with this griping and totally believable story. As things get better....things get worse. Page after page I could not put this down. I read it in one sitting and was once again left wanting more. I kept telling myself, one more sentence..page....chapter....Yep, finished the book. Realistic and believable characters that you root for as well as those you despise and want to throat punch. Scenes and places you can vision in your mind...... Bobby Akart's writing plays out in your head as a movie as you red along. If you've started this series.... get this installment! If you haven't started this series..... GET ON IT!!!

What can I say, Bobby's writing just keeps getting better with each book. I loved this one, probably my favorite of the 4 Black Out books so far. It has it all- action, survival, relationships and great suspense. As the Ryman family settles into their new home, we get to see Alex, Colton and Madison having to step up and do their part in defending, scavenging and preparing for the winter months. And their host's teenage son Chase, is he too headstrong and reckless? Where will he lead Alex? Ma Durham and her deranged son are power hungry and want revenge. Will Coach Carey and his team be able to help again? And Russ and the Hillbilly Hilton, what disaster is on their way? Follow Bobby and his wonderful mix of characters as he takes the next step in this story of survival-of family, of friends, a town and a country. You never know what nugget of knowledge Bobby will slide into the story- from bread to medicine to butchering to communications. His stories always entertain and teach. Fantastic Addition.

Great read! After all the action in Turning Point we get to take a breath. Not too long of a one, because Shenandoah is just down the road. The Rymans finally arrive at Shiloh Ranch, to to relative safety of their friend, Jake Allen and his family. They promptly are covered by guns, by Jake Allen. It is obvious that Shiloh Ranch is well prepared for the blackout. Ma Durham is still up to her old tricks and the Allens and Rymans prepare to protect what is theirs. It's only yours if you can keep it. Plenty of action!

Great readEver read a book and you feel like you are part of the story? All of Bobby Akart's books grab you and take you for ride...this series takes it one step further. I feel I know the characters personally, I am with them on their runs, while scavenging I am ready for danger. Then the dogs want to go outside and I have to break away from my post apocalyptic fantasy.Fast paced, fun reading story. Already pre-ordered Books 5 & 6. Have fun reading.
