I want to start out by saying this is the second book in The Gift Saga, it is the sequel to Evanthia's Gift(which I also reviewed and highly recommend you starting with that book). I was given both books in exchange for an honest review and this is one time I have never been more grateful that I was. Both books in this saga (well, and her entire saga) has been highly influenced by her Greek heritage, which she displays beautifully for her readers to see. This story picks up right where the Evanthia's Gift left off and is just as beautifully written! It is about the meaning of true friendship with a side dish of love and romance. Through out the second book you get the chance to see new and familiar faces (from the first novel) that is able to add intensity to each chapter you read. Waiting for Aegina, is a lot more dynamic and dramatic than Evanthia's Gift however Effie's amazing abilities to capture and draw on readers emotions is spot on from the first novel. This book is a lot like is predecessor in the way of it being an honest heartfelt book about greek life. I have never read a book much like these, that make you feel that your from Greece and that you and Sophia are friends in real life...This is only Effie's second book and I can tell this series, saga, whatever you want to call it will be a classic. I read almost the entire book on Monday and saved the last chapter for last night and I was not disappointed. I honestly am eagerly awaiting the next book in this incredible saga. This will also be posted to www.heatherbloggs.com

‘Waiting for Aegina‘ is the second book in Effie’s ‘The Gift Saga‘ following the immensely popular ‘Evanthia’s Gift‘. Influenced by Effie’s heritage, both books are set against a beautiful Greek backdrop and combine love and romance with the poignant emotions of a coming of age drama. In this second outing, the story continues to follow the life of Sophia as she enters middle age and has to face certain demons from her past. Familiar faces (or imagined faces in a reader’s case!) from the first book return to bring colour and drama to each chapter and the story itself goes even deeper into the lives of its main characters.‘Waiting for Aegina’ is far grittier than ‘Evanthia’s Gift’ but it is no less beautifully written and once again Effie’s amazing ability to bring the Greek setting to life with just a few carefully chosen words will have you wanting to dive straight into the page. The inclusion of several secret recipes at the beginning of chapters is just another gem that Effie has thrown in.Another great read from this wonderfully talented author.

I relish endearing, character-driven stories about relationships between women and Waiting for Aegina did not disappoint in this regard. The Honey Hill Girls have returned in this second book filled with personal drama involving their families and the people in their lives. But despite it all, these women manage to stick together through thick and thin, spanning time while traveling the globe from Greece to New York. Though a bit slow at times when it came to the action I normally enjoy reading, I completed this book in one sitting and can verify that the story remained true to the plot, emphasizing the importance of long-term friendships. This author has a strong talent for bringing scenery and characters to life through well-written dialogues and vivid descriptions, and I found this book to be a true emotional journey that any reader of women's fiction will love.

I was gifted this book by Effie and again this book did not disappoint. It starts off where the last book ended and follows Sophia and her friends. It also has flash backs to Sophia's friends lives and how they got to this point in the book. There are also some sad journeys for her friends that only made their friendship stronger. We get more of Sophia and Dean in this book and how their relationship progressed and I loved every minute of it!I can't wait to read more of this family. I feel like they have become part of my family.

Just loved this series. The author has a gift of beautiful writing. These books follow 3 generations through life, hardships, laughter but most specially through the wonderful friendships and love between childhood friends through to adulthood. I hated finishing the second book as I don’t know if there will be a third and so want there to be. Friendships are so very special particularly those from childhoodRead, love, laugh, cry but I know you will enjoySad to close Waiting for Aegina

I loved the entire story. It was a great read for me. It was written in a very meaning way. This book held my interest throughout. The author made it feel the way life is. There are good and difficult times as the years pass. It shows the importance of how we deal with each happening as to how our life can turn out.

Waiting for Aegina is a continuation of The Gift Saga. I am loving this series thus far. I love it because it's real. It's about real friendship and loyalty; which I love. There's some time travel in this story in the sense that the author takes you from present time to flashback memories to fill in the gaps on how they all became such good friends. I am reading both books and so far this author did not disappoint. This is such a good story about womanhood, sisterhood, friendship, loyalty, as well as the triumphs and difficulties in life. Tears come and go with the memories and the life that goes on.As always Sophia is the glue that keeps all the "honey-hills girls" together. And even with a few terrible things that happen Sophia continues to wish the same for all of the children.Read and enjoy.

The Blurb : In Waiting for Aegina the saga continues from the perspectives of Sophia and her friends as the story drifts back and forth in time, filling in the gaps as the women grow to adulthood. In 1961, five little girls moved into a suburban neighborhood and became inseparable, lifelong friends. They called themselves the ‘Honey Hill Girls,’ named after the street on which they lived. As teenagers they shared one another’s ambitions and dreams, secrets and heartaches. Now, more than thirty years later, they remain devoted and loyal, supporting each other through triumphs and sorrows. Naive teenage ideals are later challenged by harsh realities, as each of their lives takes unexpected turns. Now nearing their fiftieth year, Sophia, Demi, Amy, Mindy and Donna stand together through life-altering obstacles while they try to regain the lighthearted optimism of their youth. My Thoughts :This is book Two in The Gift Saga. Continuing on from Evanthia’s Gift.I absolutely fell in love with the first book in this series and book 2 didnt disappoint either. Another well paced emotional read that is influenced by Effie Kammenou's Greek heritage, her writing captures such esscence of friendships and family. She couldnt be more perfect and has a way with words and writes from the heart. Sophia really grew on me in the first book and it was lovely to be back with Donna, Amy, Demi and Mindy and seeing how they have all grown into adults and the challenges they have faced as the story jumps backwards and forwards from past to present. Once again great descriptions of places and culture, I seem to always get lost in the surroundings of Greece. Again a few twists and turns and a book that will stay with you for a long time. I particularly love that Effie dedicates her books to her family, book 1 to her late mum and book 2 to her dad. You can see that she has much love for her family and that her mum and dad have been her inspirations and driving force throughout her life. I am sure they are both very proud. Cant wait for book 3.

The Honey Hill Girls are back in this second book with more drama than ever. Sophia is going through a depression after she has her youngest. She thinks it’s post-partum when it is really just having a lot going on at once. Her real father is dying, among other things that trigger her anxiety. Amy has a secret that’s about to come out and could jeopardize her campaign. Demi suspects something is going on with her husband. Mindy is going through some rough relationships. While Donna is realizing hers is over. Though everyone has their own problems the Honey Hill Girls stick together and help each other through. In an Oyster Shell – A satisfying women’s fiction. The Pearls – The story is unique to me. Following the lives of five women through a span of time present and past. Though a little slow in the action the story takes you over and you find yourself engrossed in these women’s stories. This story evokes a lot of emotion from elation to sadness to frustration. You feel what the characters are feeling. The characters are vibrant and strong. The women are well-done characters that give you strength because they are that strong. The supporting characters add to the story as well. Overall, it’s a well-rounded cast of characters which makes up most of the story. It’s a character driven plot. The settings were all over the place. From Greece to the suburbs of New York City, to the city itself. It felt like the author brought the reader on a journey. I felt as if I had gone to all those places. It was nice. My favorite setting was the family’s vineyard. The Sand – It could be a little slow at times but the characters made up for that.

This was a great follow-up to Evanthia's Gift. It offers a chance to learn more about Sophia and her friends during the years of that book, as well as the years following. This book is more dramatic and "gritty" than the first story, and yet it still has the same realistic engagement, drawing the reader into the Greek culture at every turn. Once again we are treated to the inclusion of Greek recipes, which I hope to try at some point.I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
