Healing the Dead Reviews
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The story is set in the 60's, where a group of kids are playing in the basement. Brad runs home to get his father's belongings, and brings back weapons he shouldn't have had because the kids decided to play Mob. Rose is handed a gun, but the kids don't know it's actually loaded, and when Rose is told to fire, she does and in a second Brad is killed. That moment in time, changes everyone, and the killing is the elephant in the room, that everyone ignores. Each sibling turns to a crutch to use, and parents who don't know how to help turn to their own crutches. Each one battling their own issues. Very gripping story.
This was an interesting novel about a group of siblings, affected in different ways by an accidental shooting of a friend in childhood, during play. We follow them from the incident through adulthood, and empathy is easy with these well-drawn characters and their emotional journeys.
This is a very touching and frank book about the trauma the befell a family over the years. It is set in Toronto between 1956 and 1969. A very good read.
A very believable tale of the aftermath of an accidental shooting of a childhood friend. Very compelling examination of the effect such an accident could have on a very normal, average family.
