This is a 3.5 star book but I'm rounding up because FINALLY, we see some character flaws in the main love interest that I've been anticipating since the start of book 2. I'm loving these audio books because they're incredibly fast, fun, and I'm enjoying the main character. I'm excited to see where Cate goes with the storyline in future books.

This book is defiantly a solid 4.5It starts out slow in the beginning but it still keeps you hooked. I feel so sorry for the fate that became Morgan at the end of the last chapter. *if you read the book, cue the heart wrenching depth of what happened*.I can not wait to finish this series. Cate Tiernan—YOU WOUND ME.

Morgan annoyed me one or two times in this, but she wasn't a bad character. This was another okay read in the series, but again, the pacing was quite slow. It dragged a bit for me.

It's not fair that Morgan was blessed with magic. She's so daft. This is my fastest skim ever. She's worst than Bella Swan.“Sometimes I feel like I don’t know anything,” I heard myself blurt out.Well, at least she knows this. I'm not sure if I still want to read about narrow-minded & foolish Morgan.

Morgan discovers that Cal's mom Selen hided her birthmother's Book of Shadows, she claims it and learns many things about her mother, family and origins: She is a Woodbanes, but her clan revoked evil Wicca, unlike Cal, who happened to have a step-brother who evokes the strongest feelings in her, who also is a Seeker hunting wicked witches like his name "Hunter", Hunter has a friend, her name is Sky and she makes a new coven with Bree and Raven joining her, looking to dissolve Cal's coven. Morgan misses Bree but doubts her especially when someone runs her over the road. Then she scries in fire like her mom used to and finds her tools. Meanwhile her sister is dating a guy who attacks her and she sends a witch's bolt to hurt him, she also helps her friend Jenna who has asthma, and discovers that Raven and Matt (Jenna's boyfriend) have an affair, also that Robbie has been in love with Bree for years. By the end, I think Morgan must suspect that Cal is using a charm and love potion on her, controlling her and her powers.

Another great addition to the series! We continue to watch Morgan grow and learn more about her mother. We also get to see more of the mysterious Sky and Hunter. The only thing I didn't like was how Morgan is being somewhat blind to how Cal has been behaving lately. Is there something big that he's hiding??? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Overall: The Sweep series by Cate is a light read, yet still really interesting. I felt like this was the sorbet course, a hiatus, amidst my reading of George RR Martin's much weightier tomes. Every novel covers Magick, young love and fitting in (or not!).However, a novel in the Sweep series is so short that it is almost a chapter in the lives of the characters.Plus: The Wiccan research is pretty intense, and the books give an authentic feel to being in a coven and the troubles/challenges a young witch (Morgan) might encounter. The first few books all deal with Morgan, and her first two loves. She slowly begins to learn about her abilities, and her heritage, and has to make touch choices in order to grow in power and understanding.Minus: Please read as many books together as possible, the story feels very abrupt if you don't.I would recommend it to: All YA readers, ages 10 and up. Adults will also enjoy this series - there is enough depth in the story to entertain a more discerning reader. Also: P.C. Cast readers, Lili St. Crow and Rachel Vincent fans. For more details and other reviews : e-Volving Books

Once again, nothing really happened in this book. I feel like the conversations Morgan has with everyone are very repetitive. I still have more books to read from this series, but I'm not sure if I'm going to finish it or not. I've given this book three stars because it wasn't that bad, but if the plot doesn't pick up soon I don't know if I can bring myself to make it all the way to book 15.

Pet peeve: when people call Wicca an "ancient" religion when it was actually first conceptualized in the 20th century.

PlotFinally, three books in, we get something that is starting to look like the beginning of a plot in Blood Witch. It doesn’t really happen until the last half of the book, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers, I suppose. Things don’t look like what they seem with certain witches, but there’s not a lot going on. I assume the next book will develop the plot further, but until then, we’re left with just a little scrap in this book. I will admit, though, that it’s enough to make me curious. WritingThe writing is still dull. After reading the last part of the book, I have to say that I’m super disappointed with how things were paced up until this point. Tiernan showed that she can write something interesting; she’s just chosen not to, apparently. Like I’ve said in my previous two reviews on the other books in this series, the writing isn’t terrible, but I would not hail it as good either. I feel like it’s getting better though (either that or I’m getting used to it). CharactersMorgan is more of a dunderhead in Blood Witch than an actual brat. She overlooks the most simple of things and makes it very frustrating for the reader, especially seeing as how we have about the same amount of information as she does. She’s also beginning to border into Mary Sue territory. Morgan found out she’s a witch no more than three months ago yet she’s doing all of these things that takes other witches years to learn. Yes, she’s from an ancient and powerful clan, but potential does not translate into talent. There’s something off about Cal that I can’t quite put my finger on so for now I’m cautious about him. I don’t actively hate him but I’ve got my suspicions about him that isn’t making my opinion tilt in his favor. No to mention that he’s the epitome of a Gary Stu as well, so there’s that. The rest of the characters blend into the background and are merely props for now.Things I LikedI like the little hint of a plot twist that is thrown in there, just in the end to help plant seeds of doubt in the readers mind. Unfortunately this happened in the last few pages and thus was the only thing I really enjoyed. Things I Didn't LikeSince it wouldn’t be practical to say I didn’t like the entire book, I’ll say this: Cal and Morgan’s relationship is just a big irritating thing to me. They don’t even talk about anything outside of Wicca so how can I even begin to like their relationship? Even if they go together quickly, I’ve read a lot of books and stories where a quick romance is written very well. Cal and Morgan’s romance is not. DiversityIt looks like there’s some hinting towards a same gender relationship between two semi-important characters, but it’s probably going to be set in future books. That’s it, though.OverallI gave Blood Witch two stars for what I believe and hope is going to happen in the next books. Also, because of the last part of the book. The story actually picked up a bit, and for that I was happy after having to drudge through two-and-a-half boring books before the real action started. I don’t have high hopes per se, but I’m not dreading the rest of the series—yet. Here is a link to my notes.

Woowy Zowwy!!If anything - the endings of these books are fantastic!Talk about evil cliffies! I'm already standing on the edge screaming NOES!!! because I don't have the next book.I so wonder how people who read this series as it was released dealt with it. I wouldn't have had the patience."Blood Witch" starts right where "The Coven" left off. Morgan is in Selene's private hidden library where she find's her birth mom's Book of Shadows. Oh snap! And since we already know all about Mauve's Book of Shadows from reading snippets of it in "Coven" you can bet your bottom dollar that Morgan is about to discover some real witchy things about herself.Selene is kinda like "What you doing in here?" blah blah blah but then for some reason she's all like "Yeah sure, Morgan! You can have the BOS! I was going to give it to you anyways! True Dat!"I felt that was kinda weird but I really think it's all a set-up because with what happened at the end... there totally HAS to be a reason to it.Bree and Morgan still don't dig each other and Bree is still getting close to Raven. Morgan learns (when hiding in a bathroom stall) that the other coven is doing something with Morgan's hair that Bree got out of an old hairbrush from the good ol' days when they were still besties. I have no clue what's going on with it but I bet the next book will tell and I bet it will be awesome!Hunter and Sky are still in this book and we learn a big whopper about Hunter. It's so big you'll gasp! We also learn what clan Morgan belongs to. And she gets even more info about her roots at Practical Magic (I wish I could go there!!).And slowly but surely, Morgan is uncovering secrets that her Mom has left behind. It makes me even more anxious to read the next book.I really love all the info about Wicca and how it seems to be very true to the craft. Sure there is a bit of supernatural fluff but I don't see anything wrong with that.OH! And in this book Morgan gets the cutest little kitty! Hooray for the fluffiness! All in all this is turning out to be a great series. If you like witches then you'll love these books!I do however wonder who SGATH is. I already know who Giomanach is. But I'm very curious about Sgath. I'm hoping it tells in the next book.

And so the plot thickens. Things are beginning to unwind and show themselves already and we are onl onto Book three. It appears now that not everything might be what it appears to be, that perhaps there is a bit of covering up going on and those who are kinda nd gentle are being blinded from the truth. What I love about this series so far is the fact that nothing seems to be overly obvious. There are still secrets and mysteries to be worked out and that of course means there is this huge sense of adventure left for us to become addicted to. More and more I am starting to get the feeling that there is more than meets the eyes with Cal, that perhaps he is not the sweethearted romantic who is all so good for Morgan. I think that perhaps there is a deeper and darker side to them and that Morgan might just find herself in trouble. Because of this I am now wondering if Bree and sky are actually trying to protect her along with hunter. are they instead looking out for her, rather than trying to cause problems which is what Cal keeps trying to convince her is happening.I love the tone that this series is written in and the way that it has you completely hooked. I am not sure what I would do if I didnt have the whole series with me now, for I am really enjoying them. They are simple but they have this huge sense of power and depth within them, that as you are reading them you get this huge adrenaline rush to carry on, to continue and to finish as fast as you can, whilst not missing a single thing. I have to say my interest about the other clan and hunter is becoming higher, I find myself wanting to read about them to know what is really going on. Is there truth in the seekers words after all? Only reading on will tell me what it is that I want to know.

SPOILERS! RANT!The world in this series is slowly getting more and more fascinating with each novel. But sadly, the narrator (wonderful Morgan) is an idiot. There I said it, she is so dumb it is annoying. Morgan is the "O.G" of witches in this world but for some reason, she is an idiot. Yes, it is obvious your lovely boyfriend is using you for your powers. He literally says it at every circle your coven cast, but for some reason, he can not fathom or understand when Hunter tells it to you, to your face. Realy. Most of your friends don't like you anymore, your self-conscious, and your selfish. I love this serious but who in their right mind thinks its a good idea to make a 12 novel series with the main narrator like Morgan?Anyways this series is getting a lot better, and I am loving everyone except Morgan. All of the love interests are amazing and I love this magick in these novels.4.5 out of five stars.P.S, I hate Morgan.

This one was somewhat better. I still think I know what the big twist is or will be. Seems to me like Tiernan is dragging it out. The ending was anticlimactic in my opinion. Oh poor little Morgan... I'll likely read the next one just to see when she FINALLY realizes she's just a tool. I just hope it's not too late now for her. That said, I still feel like the overarching series needs work. What saved this one was the introduction of new "mysterious" characters. I'll admit though that it took me a while before I realized who Giomanach was. The whole series so far is really missing something and some of the inconsistencies were a bit baffling. Anyways... I keep having to remind myself that, yes, a confused teenager who feels "in love" will believe almost anything when it helps keep their lovey dovey status quo.. Why isn't she questioning things yet?! For all we know the whole Morgan/Bree split was entirely engineers as well. Anyhoo. Simplistic/basic writing with a slight improvement since the first two--not everything is being spoon fed to us anymore... Though it still mostly is... Only now with a "who to believe" undercurrent.

  • WTF Are You Reading?
    2019-03-06 09:45

The third book in this amazing series is more of a joy to read than the first two. This is the book in which we see Morgan start to come into her own. She is starting to realize who she is as a person and a witch. She is making choices that are taking her away from what others think is the right course of action for her, and toward what she believes to be right. The author chooses to include entries from both Cal(Sgath) and Hunter (Giomanach) Book of Shadows. Once again, I find myself a little confused by this until near the end of the book. Though I like the backstory that the BOS (Book of Shadows) entries provide, I sometimes find myself: 1. Wanting to skip them to get back to the story of Morgan. 2. Wondering who or what the entries are about until they are explained at a later point. This is the book of agendas...I really enjoy the fact that I am given a backstage pass in this story and allowed to see who is really pulling the strings. This book is about so much more than Wicca. It is about family, self-knowlegde, trust and love.

This might be the last book in the Sweep series..but clearly isn't the last book in the Morgan series. I'm even more positive that Cal and Selene are pure evil. I don't trust them at all. I didn't trust Sky and Hunter either but I was completely wrong. Morgan just majorly goofed. I said I could see her going evil. I didn't think she ACTUALLY would because she's the main character. However, now I think I'm wrong and she is so going to the dark side. It's Cal bringing her to that side w/ his so called love for her. Cal apparently killed someone and that's why Sky and Hunter are there. They represent the high council over witches and Hunter is a seeker. Hunter was sent to bring him in. The book ends with Hunter trying to do that. But Morgan believes Cal being innocent. She kills Hunter. She goofed. Now she's done. She has only one choice to join Cal. To join the dark side. Cal wins. Now I need to get the next books. Because I'm sure the author will come up for a way for Morgan to get out of this w/out doing dark magic.

OK, so yesterday as I finished up the last book, I was set to trashing this series and, getting most of the way through this book, I was even more determined. I just hate not finishing a book, it feels rude. I mean an Author has struggled and worked so hard to write a novel, be it good or bad, so the least I can do is finish what I have started. So, my mind being made up that once I finished this book in the series, I would go not further, when suddenly all the YA angst and whining, whilst still there, suddenly took a back seat in my mind, as an interesting plot twist came to light. No, I'm not going to expand on it as I hate spoilers, but it's interesting enough to peak my interest into the next book.I'm still over the split up novellas but that's my fault in coming into the YA genre. Think I might see in my teenage daughter is interested in this.

After laughing hysterically at the first 2 books in this series, why did I continue to torture myself with the third? The answer is simply because all 3 of these books were together in 1 volume. That being said, Blood Witch was not nearly as laugh out loud ridiculous as the previous 2 installments of this series. Don't get me wrong, it was still terrible, it just wasn't as bad. It seemed like the author was finally satisfied that she'd educated the readers enough about Wicca and she could finally move along with telling a story.

There is no plot here. The coming inevitable twist is pretty obvious, and I feel it's being dragged out for far too long. Which may be a talent in itself given how short these books are.I know I'll enjoy the series overall, but this third installment... ugh. Nothing happens until the end, and even then I'm pretty sure nothing actually happens.I'll be reading the next book very soon. Not so much because I can't stand not knowing what's going to happen to Morgan, but because I actually care much more about finding out what happened to characters who are long dead. Is that sad?

So on this one we met Hunter, we got little pieces of information of who he really is mainly from his book of shadows. Cal and Hunter are kinda like stepbrothers. Hunter is a caused of killing his young brother. He is a seeker. He is trying to get Morgan to stay away from cal but which one is the right one???? And now Morgan just turned 17... Agh who is Hunter???
