Sigh...this is my third DNF today. There wasn't anything wrong with this one per se. I just didn't like either of the characters. Layla was a bitch. I get she was hurt by what he did, and I did think he needed to grovel a whole of a lot more than he was, but my sympathy wore out. On top of that, Damian was a self-centered egotistical asshole that thought he could just come back into Layla's life and basically take it over. Not to mention I was tired of all the back and forth bickering and the whole "have to get cozy with other people for the case" jealousy thing that these two had going on.

I enjoyed this suspenseful romance about Layla and Damian. Told in third person POV, this is the second book in the Sunset Reads series. This can be read as a standalone, but it will spoil bits of the first book, so if you hate spoilers, read book one first! These two are brought together by mutual friends, and let's just say sparks fly. Unfortunately Damian has a job that's very unpredictable and dangerous. Ohhhhh. One thing leads to another, feelings are hurt, Damian pulls a jerk move, and then Layla ends up feeling very betrayed by him. Some time passes and Damian comes back in the picture. The perfect set up for a love/hate relationship. I wouldn't go as far as to say enemies to lovers, but more like second chance romance with some fun back and forth. The side plot is fun and honestly wasn't predictable for a very long time. I enjoyed that I was actually having to figure out what was going on, and even until the end it wasn't all 100% solved, so it kept it fun.I will say that this one starts off pretty slow. The history is established, and then the current plot is established and that all takes time. It isn't really a big deal if you like slow starters, but I'm used to books starting off with something big. So this is more of a preference thing for me. If you don't mind a slow progression at first, then this will not bother you.The writing is good. The romance is fun. The naughty bits are pretty steamy. There's an enjoyable side plot, and you actually do root for the characters and the side characters. All in all a good read.

This is the second book in the series and after reading both of them (and loving them) I think I may in fact like this one a bit more. Damian Trent and Layla Reece had a small fling, but suddenly Damian left without a word. One year later, he's back and not only is he still hot for Layla, but they're thrust together time and time again through work. Damian is a hot-as-sin FBI agent who's new case is chasing after some hackers who are trying to infiltrate Sunset Reads. William and Christina (from the first book) are in this a bunch too and I loved watching their life together. So this story really had everything in it. I'm not even kidding you. Hot guys, sexy smart women, FBI agents, hackers, shootouts, so much angst that I could barely stand it, sex scenes and more heated looks than anyone should get in a lifetime without combusting. If you like any of the above, you'll like this book. It's really that simple. Triana does a great job!

I really enjoy this series. There are some little curve balls and drama, but for the most part they are fun and quick reads that bring the romance and suspense! I adored Damian. He was such a good guy. I don't know what took Layla so long, I fell for him right off the bat. He was just perfect for her and you could tell their foundation of friendship really strengthened their relationship. This was one of those books I could not put down. I absolutely loved each and every part of it.

What started off quickly between Damian and Layla ended even quicker. In fact, it hardly got started at all. The flames of what could have been were extinguished when Damian left without a word to Layla. When he returns a year later, Layla is still feeling the burn - both from pain and passion - and only Damian can provide the relief she needs. Sunset Reads: Damian & Layla is an action-filled romance with steamy scenes and some very funny wit. There isn't much that can be said about the plot without giving away spoilers, but if you think you have it figured out, just wait. This is the second book in the series, but can absolutely be read as a standalone.

Even though this was the second book in the series it was still the first book I started with. I believe this can be read as a standalone, because I was able to follow the story. There were a few mentions to events that must’ve happened in the first book but I didn’t feel I was missing major plot points by starting with this book. I will have to go back and read the first book in this series though, because I enjoyed Damian & Layla’s so much I want to know more about William & Cristina. This book follows Damian Trent and Layla Reece; these two are drawn together from their first meeting and even though Damian leaves to try to stay away from her, he finds himself back in New York City and working in close proximity to her a year later. Layla does not want to be near him and yet she just can’t seem to get away. The danger that Damian was trying to protect her from comes about and he realizes that he would do anything to keep her safe. Even though Layla wants to avoid Damian she knows he is the one who will be able to keep her safe.I enjoyed this book; the chemistry between the characters was realistic and intense. There was enough suspense to keep the reader interested and on the edge of their seat, and the book seemed to fly by. The pacing of the book was good, but I kind of wish there was more for me to read – not because the book was rushed but just because I was so engrossed into the story that it went by too quickly. I do like how the author wrote her characters: Layla seemed hesitant to get involved with Damian again because of the last time she had interactions with him. Her character was so relatable to any woman that had been scorned before that as the reader I instantly loved her. Damian, similarly, knew that he was going to have to work to gain her trust back, so that made me happy – to see a realistic relationship between the two, even though they do have that instant connection. The author wrote this so that the story switched between Damian & Layla’s story lines so that we could delve even deeper into their lives. If you haven’t read this yet, you should.

Read this book in only 2 days and really liked it! It is the perfect mix of storyline and steamy scenes. I enjoyed trying to figure out the case as much as I enjoyed the interactions between Layla and Damien, esp when Layla had to get close to Gus (a suspect) and Damien with Kat (another suspect). Don't want to give too much away but it's definitely worth the read.

This novel will definitely pull at your heartstrings. The main characters have a past and a lot of wounds that are unhealed. D.C. Triana's writing brings these characters to life and makes it all seem so real, which adds a deeper level of connection between the reader and the novel.A well developed plot, a heartwarming romance, and characters you will cling to, Damian and Layla's story is a great addition to the Sunset Reads series!

Book: Sunset Reads: Damian & Layla (Sunset Reads #2)Author: D.C. TrianaPublication Date: 12/26/2016Reviewed by: Tammy Payne- Book Nook NutsMy Rating: 4 Stars We met Damian and Layla back in book one but I do believe you could read this without book one. Slow to start but then it picks up and stays strong. The story is so well written, the characters are strong and aside from some grammar hiccups IE: missing words it's truly a great read. I enjoyed this one just as I did book one and I hope we get a book three with perhaps Sebastian?I would suggest this book if you love a good strong male alpha but a not so weak female lead. Book Title: Sunset Reads: Damian & Layla (Sunset Reads #2) Book Author: D.C. TrianaSource: Received a copy as a gift for an honest review.Rating: 4.5 starsSunset Reads is a story about two people falling in love in the universe of Sunset Reads which was started with the book 1 of the series. I do hope that D.C. writes a story for Henry, he needs to be happy after not getting the girl of his dreams. The cover is very pretty and as eye catching as the first. The pacing of the story line was really good and it didn't feel like months had passed between the beginning and the chapter of Damian's return. However, there were some typos that were a little nagging which is for why I took off some from the main rating. The novel ended on a good note with a happy ending. The FBI agent got the girl and the girl got a nice looking future ahead of her. In my review of the first book, I wrote: "One of my favorite side characters was Cristina’s brother, Henry. I’m wondering if there will be a novel about him and one of Cristina’s best friends unless I’ve read the hints wrong." Interesting how I come back to him without even remembering that I did... oh and where was Obi, Christina's dog? We saw Christina's growing family, but didn't hear about her book projects which would have been nice to see...though I do see the point of omitting that information cause the book was about a different couple. Oh, and those two should really learn to respect others...in a way of not making them uncomfortable ;) Talking of course about Damian with Layla. Very well written scenes for those of us who like steamy romance. Oh, and this wasn't really a slow romance, more of a ride of this one and I think that I was the plan. I highly recommend to the readers (18+ years) who love reading about romance stories in one universe.

The author has a good command of language and is skilled at setting scenes without too much peripheral detail. The subplots are intriguing and believable. The tension between the main characters is strong. Layla doesn't want to get her heart broken again, and Damian's job makes it difficult for him to commit to anyone. There is a good mix of suspenseful spy thriller and classic romance. While I'm not a huge fan of the romance genre, generally speaking, this book held my attention. it was fast-paced and steamy.

WOW, who wouldn't want a hot FBI agent all to themselves. What an awesome story. We met Damian and Layla in the first book in the Sunset Reads series (William & Christina), with Layla being Christina's best friend, and Damian William's best friend. Although this is the second book in the series, it does stand alone (but it's nice knowing all the characters so if you haven't read the first I recommend you do!). In this book things really heat up for Damian and Layla. There is something for everyone, sex, lust, suspense, action, drama, computer hackers, bad girls/guys, awesome FBI agents and did I mention sex? Agent Trent is sent back to New York and into Sunset Reads for an assignment, and he needs to work with Layla. The tension could be cut between these two as they try to deny any feelings for each other, and try to remain professional. Layla is kick ass and knows what she wants. When her life is on the line, Agent Trent is there to rescue her! The journey of Damian and Layla is worth going on the ride. Another awesome Sunset Reads story. I hope Henry gets his story next, he deserves some love!

Loved this one!It had just the right amount of intrigue and romance. While I really enjoyed book one, I found this one had a lot more action and I really liked the unpredictability. Damian was uber-hot. This book was uber-hot! Layla was strong and feisty, but at the same time not afraid to show vulnerability and Damian was so caring and protective - loved that about him. I don' want to say anything about the plot because i don't want to ruin it for anyone. The beginning is slow to start, but I feel it was necessary to build the plot and the characters. Actually, I would have liked to have seen more of Layla and Damian at the beginning. I loved that Will and Christina were such a vital part of this book and at the same time we also got a glimpse of how happy they still are together. But Henry....Oh, poor Henry, I really hope he gets his own book and gets his happily ever after. If you're looking for a good romantic suspense without OTT drama, this is definitely one I would recommend.

Damian and Layla are like cats and dogs fighting all the time. It is the attraction they have for each other that pours out of them by fighting. Let's face it, Damian's job as an FBI agent puts him in danger all the time and he is not ready to settle down, while Layla feels rejected since he kissed her last year and then disappeared without saying goodbye. Now, they are again reunited and they have to figure out how to work together. Sunset Reads is the target of a group of people set on defrauding the company. The only way to stop them is to trap them. Both Layla and Damian are about to risk it all to take these con-artists down.Loved the story as always. These characters grow near and dear to your heart the more you read about them. Definitely recommended for a thrilling and hot read!

A beautifully written storyThis is a HOT love story with a cool plot about spies and hackers. I was impressed by the details about FBI workings as well as computer data bases, programs and software. The Author really has a way with language. There's a solid connect felt during the entire read to the believable characters and never feels vague or rushed. It heats up dramatically when Layla and Damien finally give in to the chemistry brewing between them. I never tired of the incredible love scenes. So, So good! One of my favorite quotes: "Layla licked her lips and knew full well she'd never see those panties again."

D.C. Triana has done it again with 'Damian and Layla', the much anticipated second installment in the Sunset Reads series. Although 'Damian and Layla' is a standalone it does touch on characters in Triana's previous book which was great to see. When we first meet Layla Reece, she's nursing a broken heart brought on by the abrupt departure of FBI hottie Damian Trent whom she had been dating. Flash forward a bit and we find Trent back in New York and working undercover at Sunset Reads where Layla has recently been hired as an executive. The FBI is hot on the trail of a group of Russian hackers who have their sights set on Sunset Reads. Damian has been enlisted by FBI Headquarters to go undercover as an employee of the publishing firm. And so the fun begins! Layla has no intention of letting Damian worm his way back into her heart, but Damian has other plans especially when Layla is suddenly drawn into the hacker's web. 'Damian and Layla' is romance at it's finest and the added element of suspense is truly the icing on the cake. It's not easy to blend romance and suspense but Ms. Triana is able to pull it off with her solid writing style combined with two strong lead characters. The book is fast-paced and action-packed with lots of steamy sex scenes (really steamy!) peppered throughout along with a host of excellent supporting characters. I look forward to book 3 in the series - Henry's story perhaps? Well done!

http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/ab...Sunset Reads: Damian & Layla by D.C. Triana was a great 5 star read. Layla finds out that Damian has returned from Washington, he left a year ago without even saying goodbye. Layla had thought things were actually going in the right direction up until he split. When she gets a new job at Sunset reads she is excited. Than she finds out that Damian will be working undercover to investigate suspected hackers and they need her to assist. Damian promises Layla that he will protect her no matter what. Will Layla and Damian be able to keep things professional? Will Damian solve his case? I loved the attraction and heat coming off of these two. And the flirting and bantering was great as well.“I suggest you take a good hard look, Agent Trent, because this,” she gestured to her body, “will never, be yours. “ There was so much to this great read. Suspense, Romance, danger and more. There are a few twists that added a great element to the story. The secondary characters were great. This is book 2 in the Sunset Reads but can be read as a stand alone. I plan to go back to book 1 and look forward to reading more in the series as it moves forward. Damian & Layla (A Sunset Reads Novel Book 2) by D.C. Triana ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2Having read book one of the Sunset Reads series, I was really looking forward to book Two with great anticipation! It certainly didn't disappoint. I read the book in one sitting and spent much of the book on the edge of my seat!Damian & Layla is a cross between a workplace romance, a second chance romance, and a suspense/mystery. The plot was steady and suspenseful, building up to the end. The characters were developed and mostly likable, although at first I really disliked Damian for being a jerk. Damian is ex-military special ops and now an FBI agent. Layla is head of PR and marketing at Sunset Reads. They are both friends of the owners of Sunset Reads, so when the business is threatened they must all work together with the FBI task force. Unfortunately, Damian and Layla have a history, some unfinished business one might say. Can they work together and protect Sunset Reads? This is my second book by D.C. Triana, and I have really enjoyed the series thus far. While it is a series, Damian & Layla could easily be read as a standalone. However, I encourage everyone to read book one; William & Cristina aware worth getting to know! I look forward to reading more by this author. I'm hoping Sebastian's story might be next.

Although this is the 2nd book in the series you can read it as a standalone. Who doesn't want a hot FBI agent longing for them. One minute he has his tongue down your throat the next he is gone. Poof no notice no thing. A yr later he shows up and those same feelings you had are still there. That sizzling, electric feeling of your body when he walks in the room. Damian and Layla boy are they a couple. Two people who fight everything in their being to stay away only get pulled by a magnetic force. After months of fighting it finally, and I mean finally Damian claims what is and was his!!There is some drama which is good, there is angst. Layla puts herself in harms way for those she loves. Your heart gets to pumping because of it. Overall it was a great short read. You do see William & Cristina from the first book.

Damian is an FBI agent and good friend to William, owner of a book publishing company. Damian pursues Willam's wife Cristina's best friend Layla, however is sent on assignment and leaves without letting Layla know. A year later, he comes back on a new assignment that involves Willam's company. This story is about Damian and Layla's complex relationship and their journey to finding true love. There are lots of twists and turns and the plot is very interesting and draws the reader in. Very sweet story and I'm hoping for a third in the series. Maybe give Bastian a tough strong willed woman, OR even Henry a love interest. Looking forward to more from this author.

After reading this, all I can think now is that I would like to read book one and properly meet William and Cristina. While they do make apperances in book two and you can easily follow along without any hindrances, book two is the story of Damian and Layla. Damian is this haunted, enigmatic character who's kind of like I want you, but I have a darkness that he's afraid will ruin everything, mixed in with this badass, alpha male when it comes to his job and Layla. And Layla. I liked her. Now joining in as the newest addition to Sunset Reads workforce, Layla is about to see when devious schemes and corruption entangle themselves and how much she and her new beau must rise above of all to take down the bad guys and stay alive. Sounds easy right? All in all, not a bad read for my first read from this author. Wouldn't mind reading more from her in the future. Has a lot of potential.

REVIEW OF SUNSET READS: Damien and Layla by D.C. TrianaWhat a great story! I loved the characters, especially Damien and Layla. They were multidimensional and very likable. I felt like I was immersed in the story from the beginning. The other characters were as well done. The story was fun at times, sexy at times, and the mystery interesting to read. There was some uncertainty at the beginning and then some danger for the hero and heroine to outlive!! I definitely will want to read other books by this author. MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this bookThis is book two in the Sunset. Reads series. A little refresher, Sunset Reads is a publishing house owned by William Jameson and his bestselling author wife Cristina Cruz. We met them in book one as it was the story of how they met, came together, and saved the company from his evil ex step father. We met Layla and Damian in their story too. Layla Reece is Cristina's best friend and now she has been hired as the new Public Relations Director for the publishing House.Damian Trent is one of Will's oldest and closest friends and is in the FBI.He and Layla had the start of a thing when they first met, but he left suddenly and destroyed her heart. Now he is back in New York and still attracted to her, as she is him. However, she has no plans to ever lose her heart to him again. When he is given his new assignment to look into a company that the FBI is looking into for embezzlement and fraud, he is sent right into Sunset Reads. Not knowing that Layla works there now, he has to convince Will and Cristina to let him use their company to catch the person behind the embezzling and frauds and he has to work with Layla too.OMG! So, the attraction these two have is off the charts! They constantly want to be near each other but can't stand to be near each other at the same time. Not to mention the fact that he absolutely does not like that she has to pretend to be attracted to the head of the company that he is investigating and Henry Cristina's brother is in love with her.Layla is a strong woman and know what she wants and knows how to do her job and the job that the FBI want her to do. Damian has been a agent for a long time and he is good at it. However, working with Layla is driving him outta his ming and I love seeing this strong man brought to his knees. When they finally get together I'm surprised that the fire alarms don't go off, that is how hot they are. This story has it all; bad guys, bad girls, shoot outs, hot love scenes, hot FBI agents, hot fireman fiends, hot BFF with accents!!Triana writes a story with mystery, intrigue, and about two people who when the going gets tough they stand up and do the job they have to do, and fall in love in the process.Though this is book two in the series, I think it reads well as a stand alone. I do hope that we see Henry the Hot fireman and hunky Sebastian with his awesome accent get their HEA. I can't wait for the next story!

So instead of talking books like the first one, this one is more focused on protecting the company. Layla and Damien had one night together and then it was over.. Neither had forgotten that night and their feelings. That are high and they are directed at Sunset Reads. Damien and the FBI are on top of it but things change when Layla gets involved. Neither can deny their feelings, even if they do a great job at first but they have to be smart about it. We do get glimpses of William and Christina but it's mostly because they are ever expanding their family instead of writing new books. I felt bad for Henry cause he really cared for Layla. I do hope he has a book coming next, he so deserves a happy ending! Review by Amy

They are back Damian & LaylaIF you read book one you got a quick peek at Damian & Layla. They were good charactes before. Now they are on their own and provide that much more impact. This time around Sunset Reads has mystery, intrigue, and more danger surrounding the company. There was heat, passion, and some abandonment issues to face. Damian had some making up to do. He was an alpah male with his partial dominance over Layla. She could have been stronger, but she was likeable. The story was a bit slow starting. But I just focused on getting the whole stroy and that it would pay off. This could have been more without the grammar issues. That happens to be a pet-peeve of mine. If I pay for a book I want it to be damn near perfect with spelling, grammar, punctuation, ect. . .

Sunset Reads: Damian and Layla is the second book in the Sunset Reads series by D.C Triana. It can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the first book to get the full story. But it's not necessary. I met Damian and Layla in the first book. It was a quick meeting but I knew they would hit it off. That was until he disappeared from her...One year. That is how long it's been since Damian left without a goodbye. Not even a text. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. And now he back and Layla doesn't want anything to do with him. But when his case for the FBI has everything to do with Sunset Reads she doesn't exactly have a choice. She has to work with him. Has to see his arrogant and sexy smirk. Has to try her best to stay away but the way her body reacts to him it's an impossibility. She wants him. But can she trust him? She knows that he will protect her but can she trust him with her heart? Damian knows he fucked up a year ago. He thought he was doing the right thing but the second he sees her again...he knows he was a coward. He wants Layla just as bad now as he did the first time he saw her. First, he needs her to talk to him. Second, he needs to gain her trust. To show her that he isn't going anywhere. He is there to get close to his targets for the case but more importantly he is there to protect her and his friends. Can he protect her? Can he prove that she can trust him with her heart? Will he solve the case before it's too late? I enjoyed this book but I didn't love it. The characters frustrated me. The mixed signals and uncertainties made me want to scream. Of course I saw where they were both coming from so I didn't full on want to smack them. Just a light "get it together" slap. But I will say they do not lack passion. They have their banter. Their stubbornness. And that made it exciting. The writing is great. The reason I am rating it a four is because of two reasons. One, I wasn't fully invested in the characters. And two, for an FBI case they didn't seem too on top of things. I don't want to spoil any of that part so I will just say that I was like...really? Come on, people! Overall...it was a good story and it was a great addition to the series. I do enjoy this group of friends that are more like family. Quotes: “You keep staring at me like that, Layla, and I’ll bend you over this desk and make sure you don’t ever forget it.”“You like playing games with me, don’t you, Miss Reece?”“I believe I’ve found that cure.”

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the second book of the series and it can be read as a stand alone, as this is my first book I have read from the series. Damian and Layla have a one night stand that leaves a lot of unanswered questions. They find each other again and I can say it is super steamy! :) The characters were very complex and the chemistry between Damian and Layla was really interesting. Layla was a very strong character and you barely see that anymore in female characters. I definitely recommend this book, if you are looking for a good romance book that keeps you on your toes then you looked in the right direction. Book Blurb:One year. It’s been one year since Agent Damian Trent left for Washington without a word. One year since he’s seen her beautiful face. One year since he’s heard his name on her lips. He's been recently called back to New York City on assignment, to catch a criminal who’s trying to infiltrate Sunset Reads. The last thing he expects is to work side by side with the woman he turned his back on.Having her close is an unwanted distraction that he’s more than willing to ignore, if only she wasn’t so damn tempting.Everything seems under control, until a night of feverish passion has him abandoning all thoughts of reason. Now, he will do everything in his power to get her back, and even more so to protect her.Layla Reece wants nothing to do with the man who left her a year ago.The man who took her heart with him, leaving her broken. After a year of trying to forget Damian Trent, she is finally ready to move on.But trying to forget him becomes a tedious task when he suddenly reappears in her life.Although she fights to stay away, his magnetism is too strong and she finds herself giving into the deep timbre of his voice, and the strength and safety of his arms.Staying away from Damian turns out to be futile, especially when his kisses consume her and his heart shatters the walls she spent so much time building.Finding herself in danger, she now has to turn to the only man she trusts to keep her safe, but can she trust him enough to give him her heart once again?

Will the spark kindle?Damian, a sexy FBI agent, has returned to NY after disappearing from Layla's life for a year. Previously they'd been intimate, then a whole year without contact and he shows back up thinking they were going to pickup where they left off? Layla thinks otherwise. Unfortunately with her new job she gets sucked into an investigation of corporate espionage that forces her to work closely with Damian. How long can Layla keep her guard up around him? Does he deserve a second chance and what will he do for it?This is a great contemporary romance that will keep you turning the pages. The spark between the two is evident from the get go and makes you hope for a reunion of the two, so you just cant put it down.
