Caroline Burnes is probably best known for her "Familiar " series written for Harelequin Romance. She did have a handful of stand alone novels and "Hoodwinked " was one of them. Published in 1993, also by Harlequin as part of their romantic suspense group.Set in historic Natchez, Mississippi, Lauren, a Kansas native, takes a job as police psychologist. Her boss resents her and makes it quite clear he thinks her position is a waste of money. Lauren 's first "case " is to decide if a modern day Robin Hood, David Malachi, is OK to be released. Lauren thinks he's harmless, so he is released. Only he goes out and commits another robbery . Only this time a man is murdered. Now Lauren must find David or she'll lose her job.The premise is completely implausible. But, the mystery was OK. There were red herrings and old family secrets, and there was a treasure hunt. This book reads more like a young adult mystery than a romance. There is zero SC. Only VERY mild language. Almost G rated. The first part of the book held my interest, but the last part just kept getting more and more ridiculous. Overall a C -

Searching for clues from age-old grudges and hidden treasures, Lauren;a police psychologist finds herself in much danger after meeting the "Robin Hood", David Malachi. Many twists and turns to this story, but it basically comes down to a true Robin Hood tale of love, murder, scandals, and greed.

Didn't pick the bad guy, but it was a bit too clunky in parts, predictable dialogue in others and in other parts it just did not ring true.
