    This book and the TV series that preceded it was before Keith lost the plot and crashed and burned.To be fair, to suggest you could visit the whole of Africa and produce either TV or book on a whole continent in two months is an impossibility.I was born in SA so I recognise some of the dishes he describes but there are some cuisines that are predominant to SA other than fish and braai. Cape Malay being the best known which hardly featured.This book suggests that there is a wide and differing cuisine all over Africa, this is nonsense.Over staggering areas meals are at subsistence level. You eat whatever you can get and are glad of it.Obviously this would not make a book, let alone a TV series, so much of it is ignores this fact and it's pretty obvious that many of the dishes shown would not be consumed by the many, just the very few, mostly white.In case anyone thinks that I'm introducing a racial element, I'm a white SA, but I know what the ethnic population can afford to get and eat.If you really want to see what many people's in Africa eat see Ray Mears TV series when he visited townships and hunter gatherers villages.You'd be hard pushed to see any of the dishes that Floyd cooks.

    This is an entertaining book but it's hard to take it seriously when, in the introduction, the author asserts that 'there's no such thing as African food'.Basically then, this is a collection of his own creations which seem tired or forced. You get the sense that Floyd fancied a holiday and had to fund it through a TV/recipe book tie-in (his financial problems are legendary).Floyd was a great writer as well as irascible entertainer, however, and the travel journal between the recipes is amusing. Buy the book for this, if at all, not for the recipes.
