Witch on First by Juliette HarperThe 4th book in the Jinx Hamilton Mystery series; Jinx and her next door neighbor find a dead body right outside their doors sitting on a bench. Jinx and her friends rush against time to find out Fish Pike's killer and the reason why he was murdered. There were two peculiar phenomena things going on in the café. One was the witch cup in which the little green witch had switched positions. The girls had Rodney the rat stand over the cup to watch what goes on. Glory the witch was a spy for Chesterfield and reported any news to him. The second thing that was ominous was the music chessboard in which the girls have placed in the storeroom. It would also listen for info and report back to their master. Glory the little witch has agreed to come over Jinx's side she will be a double agent and give misleading info to Chesterfield. In the meantime, Mrytle the longtime Fae of the coffee shop has been loosing her magic. She will be returning to the Valley to recouperate.

ExcellentAnother great continuance of Jinx's story. This instalment delves deeper into the characters histories and how it is causing the latest mysteries and problems. There's still jovial moments throughout that lighten the atmosphere. Superb writing and flow throughout. This is a brilliant series to get into and each book has proven equally entertaining. My only complaint, they could be longer books, allowing even better stories and pro longing our reader's enjoyment. X

Delicious These books are delicious Gourmet brain candy. They spark my imagination, make me happily engrossed in a tale that grips me, makes me laugh and makes cry a little. It's flavors are complex enough to make them gourmet candy. That make your brain happy and yearning for more. What more could you ask for. Thoroughly satisfying read

This is not just a simple story...This is not just a simple story. It's turned out to be a whole history lesson along with the fictional history of magic and all magical creatures. I am thoroughly hooked on this Harry Potter like world.

This book had some pretty sad and intense parts to it, but that served to make the story seem more real to me. Of course it is hard to say a story is real when there are witches and alchemists and werecats around. But as witch stories go, this one seems to be realistic and the characters believable. Of course Jinx, who has only been a witch a few months, is incredibly patient and eager to learn. She accepts whatever is thrown her way and plows ahead. In this book she had lots to accept from Chase and Myrtle as well as Glory and the musical chess board. The murder of a mutant werecat and a subsequent cover-up by raccoons brings new information to Jinx about a brother she didn't know she had. So many changes in this book! Thankfully due to skilled writing it all inter-wove and made for a fantastic book. It might be my favorite yet. This is one series you want to read in order so you don't miss any details along the way. I wish the books were longer, but they are pretty packed with action and information, making reading them an exciting experience! I highly recommend them!

Really enjoyableThese characters are so well developed , I cry, laugh, and feel good with them. I'd recommend this for readers who want to be entertained, and yet not forced to read a predictable outcome and silly caper.

Excellent ReadI stayed up until dawn to finish this book, annoyed when I caught myself dozing. So when my Kindle (my best friend) flashed this page up, I was horrified. I hadn't prepared myself to re-enter life. To leave the multifaceted magical world of Jinx and Tori. Such a cozy ragtag team of chosen family, set both in our world and one providing sanctuary to magical beings. There is a rather abrupt cliff hanger, but I still wouldn't ready to leave these characters. I love the authors' use of fun factoids for which my Kindle has this great Search the Web action that only needs one tap to discover the historical documentation, such as there really is a Patron Saint for the unattractive! I am not a Catholic, but hey, the medal wasn't that expensive and besides he is also the Patron of coffee, so clearly I had to have the talisman in sterling silver. The author hits a perfect balance between a warm mystery cozy, a science fiction fantasy and a G rated romance. Be sure to read the books in order, the collective brain of Juliette Harper is ever so worthy.

"Witch on First" is the forth book in the "Jinx Hamilton Mystery" series by Juliette Harper. Jinx and Tori have been working on many things in their lives. From finding out that they were witches to running a successful coffee shop. But at the end of the day there are still mysteries that need to be solved, and lessons to be learned. "Witch on First" starts off with the discovery of a man's body in front of Chase's shop. He looks like he was torn apart by a mountain lion or a cougar. Of course Chase didn't do it, but the placement of the body suggests that someone has a vendetta against him. And that someone knows exactly what he is. Another mystery has to deal with Myrtle and the way she's been acting. Than there is this musical chess board, and a tiny green witch just for starters.Overall, I really enjoy reading this series. The introduction of new characters and concepts is well paced. There are also fun supporting characters, and interesting side plots. If you're looking for a different kind of witchy series, this one is worth checking out.

Lot's of surprises for Jinx and Tori, keep 'em coming. I will start another of your series as I await book 5. Love how you tell a story.

I could have been an alchemist... I love watching as Jinx and Tori grow in their powers, and I do love a good grisly murder scene with a Rocket Raccoon style cleanup crew. This world just keeps becoming more and more real to me. So many layers! I think I'll grow a mother tree in my backyard.

I like these books! The series is an easy read. The characters are fun. A little predictable but the author uses both history and imagination and it works. They are not scary, they do not make you overthink. They are simply a light fun read.
