I LOVED this!! I have never read anything even a little paranormal and I was so surprised how much I enjoyed it!!I was introduced to some lovely characters that are all perfectly wacky for a story like this. Dash is going to be my favorite and I already love him for Curious Cassie!!I hope to see more of Marla and April in the future.. How awesome is their business "plan"?!?!?I've never said this about a book before but I could truly imagine this as a movie! There was a different kind of mystery, a sweet little love story and a setting where I felt like I was right at home! It was funny, well written and left me begging for more! What a great story and beginning for me into the world of paranormal cozies! I cannot wait for Book 2....I'm thinking Cassie is gonna get herself into some real trouble!

Kicks off fast and keeps you turning the pages. Meet Cassie or should we say, Miss Miscellanea, the name of her secondhand shop. When the daily donations give up a young woman's photo and a voodoo doll, things get interesting. The woman in the photo recently died from no known causes. Cassie starts looking into the death and with the help of her best friend Dash, who is the local PI, she sets out to find out what is going on. Living in Bandit Hills, Tennessee makes you aware that ghosts and other things are simply a matter of life. Tracking the voodoo doll back to the dead woman's boyfriend puts Cassie and Dash in New Orleans to track him down. This is a quick read with a twisted murder in a town that you want to know more about. I found Bandit Hills and the quirky inhabitants totally delightful and can't wait to see where this new series goes. A cozy adventure with a little paranornmal.I received this book from the publisher as Amazon was unable to deliver the correct book. This is my honest opinion and fair review.

I really enjoyed this book. I like a cozy mystery and this ticked all the boxes. It had laughs, intrigue and murder. I liked the characters too. The story is about Cassie, who owns a junk shop and lives in the spooky town of Bandit Hills. After receiving a donation to her shop a spirit contacts her wanted her to solve her unexplained death. As soon as I finished this book I bought the second in the series. I look forward to reading more by Blair.

Second-Hand Murder: Book 1 in the Bandit Hills Series by Blair Merin Second-Hand Murder: Book 1 in the Bandit Hills Series by Blair Merin is a captivating short mystery. It kept me entertained from start to finish. I gave it five stars. The protagonist, Cassie has a mantra: "One person's trash is another person's treasure." It's what keeps her going as she sorts through donation box. This is something I learned from my parents. Nothing goes to waste. Only her mother calls her Cassandra. It used to irk her when she was sixteen but now she's thirty-two. Her other nickname is Miss Miscellanea which is the name of her secondhand shop. Her mom is her only employee. They are located in Bandit Hills, Tennessee which is known for unusual phenomena. There's an expression whenever anything strange happens: "That's Bandit Hills for ya." Cassie is friends with Dash who was a high school friend & is now a private investigator. She calls him about a voodoo doll she received with a photo of a woman who died the prior week & hires him to investigate the death. Cassie has just the right amount of snarkiness & she & Dash have funny interactions. "The problem with being awoken in the middle of the night by a loud noise is that you don't actually know what the noise was, because you weren't awake for it--which in my book, is worse than just hearing a loud noise in the middle of the night, because at least than you might be able to determine what it was." I received a complimentary kindle copy from Amazon. That did not change my opinion for this review. Link to purchase: https://www.amazon.com/Second-Hand-Mu...

I am a huge fan of paranormal books and when I was given the opportunity to read Second Hand Murder I jumped at it. This is the first book in a new series and I love love loved it! This series is going to be flying off the shelves. It has everything you could ever want in a paranormal series, a cat, a town known for things that go bump in the night and of course a witch. All of this is just in book one.Cassie and her mom Julia run a second hand store in Bandit Hills, Tennessee where strange is normal. The saying is "That's Bandit Hills for ya" when anything unexplainable happens. Cassie gets a lot of boxes dropped off every morning for her to go through that people discard and she tries to give them new life in her store. She gets the surprise of a life time when she opens an old shoe box and finds a Voodoo doll and a picture. Strange huh? Nay not for Bandit Hill. This does make curious Cassie want to know more about it. Why would anyone give this doll to her and who is in the picture? Well Julia knows who the young woman is because she was in the obituaries a few weeks ago! What??? Could Voodoo be real? The young woman apparently just stopped living with no reason noted on her coroners report. With the help of her good friend Dash, her mom, her mom's friend Marla(a physic???) and a host of other amazing characters they search for who or what killed this young woman. This book had me on the edge of my seat and laughing out loud all at the same time. The characters are great and it is very well written. I can't wait to see where this great new series goes next.

I have to say this book scared me somewhat. The cover of the book shows a voodoo doll and that kind of thing keeps me up at night. Fortunately, this is a cozy and I managed to live through it. This is Book One in the Bandit Hills Series. Bandit Hills is a different type of town where everyone seems to take certain things for granted. I loved it!

I recently had the opportunity to pick up and read a copy of Second-Hand Murder by fellow Summer Prescott Books author Blair Merrin. Second-Hand Murder is the first book in The Bandit Hills Series and is also the very first paranormal cozy mystery to come out from Summer Prescott Books. As a fan of paranormal mysteries, and a writer of paranormal mysteries myself, I can say I was not disappointed at all with this book. The story follows Cassie, the owner of a quaint little second-hand shop in the small Tennessee town of Bandit Hills. Bandit Hills is a well know hot spot for supernatural occurrences, and most of the town's citizens are used to a little spookiness in their day-to-day lives. One fateful morning Cassie receives a strange donation to the shop--a little brown box. The box contains a small voodoo doll as well as a picture of a young woman whom Cassie has never met. Cassie, being a very curious woman, decides she is going to try and figure out who the woman is. Enlisting the help of her PI fried Dash they quickly realize that Cassie recently died of mysterious causes. The two curious investigators go to work to solve the mystery of how the woman died before it is too late for them as well. Second-Hand Murder had me hooked from the very beginning and didn't let me go until the very end. Merrin does an excellent job of creating a vibrant and real world for the story. Her descriptions of the characters--especially Cassie and Dash--and of the town of Bandit Falls make me want to go and visit this little fictional town. From the second-hand shop, to the diner, to the fortune teller's store everything in this world is perfect for the setting and mood of the story.I was particularly impressed with the creative method in which the mystery was executed. The use of classic voodoo theology--as it is often seen in film and media--was a pitch perfect basis for the mystery. I was particularly excited when I saw a reference to the non-fiction novel The Serpent and the Rainbow. I myself have read The Serpent and the Rainbow, simply because I find the concepts of real voodoo as a religion and the culture surrounding voodoo fascinating. (I blame my mother for showing me classic voodoo themed movies such as I Walked With A Zombie, King of the Zombies and White Zombie when I was little.)This clue alone, along with many other voodoo references, set my mind spinning with ideas of where the mystery could resolve. In the end, however, I was still pleasantly surprised by the answer because I didn't see it coming. My conclusion was vastly different than the one that actually occurred. This is always an excellent indicator that the story, as well of the rest of the series, will be top notch.Second-Hand Murder is an wonderful beginning to a new series, and I would encourage any fans of the cozy genre, especially the supernatural cozy, to check it out. I myself purchased a physical paperback copy of the book. It is a beautiful book that has a fantastic cover. If you have the extra cash I'd encourage you to pick up the physical copy over the e-book if possible. All-in-all Second-Hand Murder is a perfect start to a fun new series.

Definitely a Five-Star Creepfest (wonderfully spooky and fun) from a truly Five-Star AuthorI just finished re-reading this wonderful book now that I know how to post reviews. This is intended to be an extremely well-deserved and well-earned Five-Star rating and review because I am thoroughly enjoying this series, right from this very first book in it. Telling the story of what happens when second-hand shop owner Cassandra (Cassie) Cleary receives, among merchandise for her shop, a mysterious ugly doll and photo of a woman she eventually learns is dead. Set in the spooky small town of Bandit Hills, TN, where bizarre and spooky occurrences seem to be as commonplace almost as is breathing, this first book in the series named for its unique and interesting location welcomes readers to the phenomenal writing and storytelling talents of author Blair Marin. Chock full of suspense, fascinating characters, a very well-developed heroin in Cassie (with whom readers will easily identify and genuinely like and care about), plenty of plot twists and turns along the way, perfect story pacing that will keep readers turning pages until the very end (both times I read this book, I did so in a single sitting simply because I couldn't stop or put the book down), a unique and interesting setting, plenty of spine-tingling and chilling suspense, and all the creepy "spookies" that lovers of paranormal mysteries could ever hope to experience in the books that they read, while still at the same time being a delightfully fun-spirited cozy mystery, Second-Hand Murder is a "clean" read that contains none of the harsh language nor graphic sexual or violent content that could offend some readers. This makes this wonderful book perfect for readers of all ages. So, if you're a reader who is looking for a good clean spookfest that will both delight and entertain you while keeping you on the edge of your seat from the first page of the book right up to and including the very last word, then Blair Marin's Second-Hand murder is definitely the book for you… I cannot recommend this book for this series more highly than I do… Without a doubt, this is one of the single best paranormal cozy mysteries I have ever read. I can hardly wait to continue re-reading all of the other books in this phenomenal series.

If you like paranormal stories like I do, then you’ve often thought if would be pretty cool if there was a place you could visit that was almost like a para-vacation location. You know, where you could go and actually see real stuff going on, hear actual voices and interact with the spirits and it’s completely normal. No judgment from anyone and people actually believe you without that weird look after you tell them that you just hear voices in your attic. Well, Blair Merrin has created that place, Bandit Hills, Tennessee. When something strange happens in Bandit Hills, they have a saying, “ That’s Bandit Hills for ya!” We meet Cassie and her mom in their antique shop, Miss Miscellanea, which sells other people’s castaway treasures. Some items are junk but others are down right fascinating. On this particular day, one of the most interesting finds of all shows up in a box. In an unmarked box, sitting along with other boxes full of uninteresting items, is a small, roughly made burlap doll with button eyes and yellow hair and a photo of a recently deceased woman. Cue creepy music, right? For this town however, just another Tuesday. Well, things are about to change. Cassie begins to wonder why someone would place a photo of a recently deceased woman with a voodoo doll and more over who the woman was. So, she begins looking her up out of pure curiosity. She then calls her old high-school friend turned investigator, Dash to see if he could find out more about who she now knows is Stephanie Marshall after a quick look at recent obits on the internet. Their investigation uncovers a lot; too much. They discover an ominous note, speak to a spirit from beyond the grave, break into the deceased Stephanie’s home, find a photo of her with a mystery man which leads Cassie to take a trip to New Orleans in search of said mystery man and there, encounter evil magic beyond their imagination. The ending is heart stopping and leads one with more questions than answers. Here’s to hoping for a second book!Second-Hand Murder is an amazing premier paranormal book for Blair Merrin. She has hit upon several aspects that some authors are yet to hit upon. I love the theme, the characters and the constant action throughout the book.

I love this new series!!! Summer Prescott is a talented author herself that has recently started her own publishing company. As a publisher, she is proving to be just as talented as she is at writing. Blair Merrin is the second writer and series to be introduced by Ms. Prescott and follows in her own style of writing. Another talented writer that is good at a story, has great characters and conversations, solves the problem finishing the book, yet still leaves you wanting more and looking forward to the next book. Cassie is the main character in Bandit Hills, TN. Bandit Hills is known for it's weirdness attracting tourists to haunting and psychics. Cassie owns a second hand store that has one employee, her mother. There are donations left at the door to the shop that Cassie and her mom sort through daily before opening and this morning find a box with a voodoo doll and a photo of a recently deceased young woman that Cassie's mom recognizes. She looks into the woman online and discovers that the cause of death is unknown. Then that's when it all starts. Strang things start to happen to Cassie, the doll moving on it's own, lights going out... Well, Cassie wants to get to the bottom of things and seeks the help of Dash, her longtime friend and private investigator. They travel to New Orleans, solve the case and then leave us waiting for more.

I am not a HUGE fan of the paranormal genre but this was a very well written and somewhat funny book. Cassi and her best friend Dash live in a town called Bandit Hill and you can say the town is very strange. There is some paranormal activity in this town which draws a ton of tourist a year and brings business to the town. Someone dropped a box off at Cassi's shop and strange things start to happen when she finds out that the young girl in the photo in the box was found dead, Cassi hires her friend Dash to help her song the mystery. This is a different kind of book for me so that is maybe why my review is short. Its the first in the series and I can see myself giving it another read for book two. If you believe in ghosts or paranormal activities than this is your book. A nice quick and easy read. I am more in it for the mystery but I will give it 4 starts because it was really well written.

This is the first book in the new Bandit Hills mystery series by Blair Herrin. I loved this book! It was a fresh idea for a paranormal series that I think will lend itself to many great stories. The town of Bandit Hills is known for it's paranormal activity so it's no surprise when Cassie, the owner of a second-hand store, has a ghostly visitor. This ghostly visitor wants Cassie to help solve the mystery surrounding her death. With the help of Dash, her p.i friend, Cassie sets out to solve the mystery. I really enjoyed this fast paced story. It quickly grabbed my attention and kept me turning the pages. I liked the characters and setting of the book as well. I can't wait to see what happens next in teh town of Bandit Hills! I received a copy of this manuscript from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This cozy mystery is a spookfest! It's scary and laugh out loud funny. Cassie, the main character, is a thrift store owner and likable gal. She lives in Bandit Hills, TN, where strange phenomena is happening all the time. One day she receives a creepy doll donation with a picture of a deceased young woman also in the box. The doll appears to move around the store on its own. So, Cassie teams up with her P.I. friend, Dash, to investigate. Dash is a fun character and possible love interest for Cassie. The unravelling of the mystery in New Orleans was exciting. This is a fun mystery for people that like paranormal, humorous cozies! The publisher provided me with a complimentary ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.

Second-Hand MurderI really enjoyed this book. This was one of those books that sucks you in right from page one. I couldn't put it down. I love how well it flowed, the characters all worked well with each other and the story flowed really well. It certainly makes you want to go and visit the town of Bandit Hills, if not to visit the quirky town, but to see if there really are ghosts that exist there.I don't want to give away anything that happens in this book, but do want to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book and give it 5 stars. I eagerly await book number two.

Cassie owns a second-hand store in the tiny town of Bandit Hills. Each day she and her one employee, her mother, sort through the donations that come in overnight. An unusual donation is quickly linked to a recently deceased woman. Along with her best friend Dash, a private investigator, Cassie sets out to discover what killed Stephanie. This search leads them on a path they never imagined.I'm not a huge fan of Paranormal Mystery, but this was an entertaining read. The main characters are nicely developed and the plot moves at a steady pace. There are interesting supporting characters who make you want to learn more about them. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Loved it! First book by Blair Merrin, is a hit. I am not usually a fan of ghostly, paranormal books, but could not put this one down. Cute interaction with the characters, make this a very fun book to read. Dash and Cassie, as well as the others, have a lot to give this series, can see it continuing for some time. Good Job, Blair. NOTE!!!! There may be something here, I can not remove this book from my Kindle!! LOL

**I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review**My first thought when I finished this was "When does the next book come out?". It had a great balance of paranormal eeriness and humor. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer. Not because it didn't feel like a complete story, but because I wish I could've spent more time with the quirky cast of characters.

I will admit the cover kind of pushed this one to the back burner for me but I finally read it and LOVED IT! I love Cass and Dash and the rest of the characters and boy what characters they are. Cass kind of gets caught up in the middle of the murder because she is just Curious Cassie but then with a little help and a push in the right direction she finally figures it out.
