Kaitlin has had a thing for her friend Tyler after he has experienced a bad break up he is MIA until she receives a text message from him that he is in Iceland. Kaitlin travels to Iceland to find him. Instead she finds something else. Kaitlin should be preparing herself for the upcoming X Games as a professional snowboarder. While waiting for the bus to come she meets Gabe there is just something about him. He is a Geophysicist and when he sees Kaitlin he can’t help but not talk to her. At the moment he is studying one of the volcanoes that is about to erupt. Gabe and Kaitlin embark on something beautiful. I enjoyed them together. But this book was also more that Kaitlin needs to think about what she wants to do with her life. This is well written and easy to read I really enjoyed even though it is NA. So yay me! It made me want to up and leave and visit Iceland. I enjoyed all the characters. They are a fun and quirky bunch. I can’t really say if I would continue this series. But it is just my choice and not to be taken at face value.Book received by author in exchange for an honest review.

Read full review HEREThis book totally took me by surprise, I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did. Somehow, I thought that there would be a whole lot of drama, some hot moments and then Kaitlin would realize that Tyler wasn’t the guy for her anyway, but not before he woke up and realized that he wanted her after all.Well… that’s not what happens, lol, at all, and I’m so glad, because this was such a sweet, romantic and tender story, about love, friendship, knowing oneself and realizing that following your true passion is the most important thing, even if you have to fight to do it.I found the writing simply wonderful. It was simple, while at the same time painting clear pictures of what was being described, and I was suddenly fascinated by Iceland, and now I really want to go there – even in winter. I also loved how the connection between Kaitlin and Gabe was described, it felt like some kind of magical thing. The main POV is Kaitlin’s, but we get small glimpses of Gabe and Tyler’s POVs, and I’m glad we do, because they allow us to know what’s going on on the guy’s heads, which is especially helpful in Tyler’s case. Against my initial thought, I liked Tyler too, and I would like to know more about him and maybe read a book about him finding his way.Kaitlin and Gabe are both wonderful characters, and even though the book is quite short and spans a very short time period, I was surprised by how well rounded these two characters were, and how much chracater growth there is. The romance is clearly instalove – there’s no way around it – but it is so well done. They complement each other nicely and you can’t help but root for them.I really really enjoyed this book, and I’m sure I’ll pick up more books by Lark O’Neal soon.

"If you change your mind / Honey, I'm still free / Take a chance on me"Kaitlin finds herself on a trip to Iceland, trying to find her best friend, Tyler, who up and walked away, not leaving so much as a note for any of his family and friends. After a text, Kaitlin goes to find him -- and it shows the type of true friendship she and Tyler have.On her trip, though, she meets Gabe -- who urges her to see certain sights her first day in the area. "If you need me, let me know, gonna be around / If you've got not place to go, if you're feeling down / If you're all alone when the pretty birds have flown / Honey I'm still free / Take a chance on me"Their... friendship... if you will, was quick and easy. However, as readers we get an immediate sense of the chip on Kailin's shoulder. You see, she chose to be a professional snowboarder and all her life, she's had people telling her that's not a career, that's not a way of life -- that's simply a hobby. So there are conversations straight off that she tears Gabe down, all while trying to keep the pride she has in the work she does. She's not looking for anything more, not when she questions her feelings for best friend, Tyler, but Gabe makes her wonder. But then seeing Tyler so broken, makes her wonder more, question further.(view spoiler)[I was totally expecting this book to go one way, with the best friend trope, and it totally didn't -- and that was what truly made it work for me. The other way was simply too obvious. (hide spoiler)]. I enjoyed the journey Kaitlin and Gabe went on, all while she fought for what she seemingly hoped for with Tyler. I loved that once Kaitlin let go of her chip, she allowed Gabe in -- and he showed support in so many ways. Their growing relationship was quick, but in very adult ways, they knew what they found was unlikely... And took that step back (the emotion from there was full and such a great way to close out their story). I found this to be well written and adored the characters. There were times that it felt long, or the story didn't have a pace that kept me completely involved, but I did enjoy the story. I want to see more of them!!"Gonna do my very best and it ain't no lie / If you put me to the test, if you let me try / Take a chance on me"Now, there's a reason why Tyler's in Iceland and part of me wants to read the GOING THE DISTANCE series, but I fear it's length for one character, and the fact that Tyler was now in Iceland alone, will annoy me. I want to see this man unbroken...*Review copy received in exchange for an honest review through Xpresso Book Tours

Thank you Xpresso book tours for review opportunity. This does not influence my review.I enjoyed this book, will be looking to read more from the author in the future; The book has well handled characters, plot and intensity of story line. I like the cover, dont find it that much perfect for the book, but definitely intriguing. So this book is about feelings which we develop for opposite sex and family relationships. Have you ever experienced meeting another half of your on a trip? Spending the most vibrant and meaningful days? This is what it is about, its about jumping in the LIVE and living, letting go an old time crush and finding new people on the road, being financially cut off and loosing the ground and masterfully landing on own feet. Its powerful and real. Nice glimpse of snowboarding and volcano science and the beauty of Iceland. Both main characters are great couple who makes a reader believe in love.

Another brilliant, steamy, gorgeous book by one of my favorite writers ever. This one takes place in Iceland during a volcano eruption and I felt like I was right there in the midst of all of the stark beauty that is Iceland. And so intrigued was I by the beautiful descriptions of Blue Lagoon Thermal Spa that I added it to my bucket list. Although I think I may try to avoid the volcanic eruption when I go. Of course in addition to the beautiful descriptions of the world the characters occupied, was a gorgeous love story between two of the sweetest people, two people that I came to care about very much and hope to see more of in future books. I want to know that everything turned out well and they are living happily ever after. And that scene at the end in the Airport? Best scene ever. You'll know which one I mean when you get to it. I cried like a baby. Sigh! Romance at its very finest.

Extreme by Lark O’Neal is a New Adult romance with a dash of adventure. I was pleasantly surprised when Extreme did not follow the usual NA formula. The story does not have the usual level of melodrama and angst I’ve come to expect in this genre. The narration was also unique. Kaitlin is the main character and primary narrator, but periodically there is a chapter from the point of view of the guys. Those refreshing small changes made for a more interesting read.Kaitlin and Gabe are very likable characters, and I felt their connection and chemistry right away. I usually don’t buy the instant attraction/love idea, but O’Neal’s treatment of these two characters made their whirlwind relationship work for me. I appreciated that there wasn’t a rush into an intimate relationship, and they were both presented as strong individuals.Kaitlin is a gold-medal winning snowboarder. She grew up a tomboy who was crushing on one of her older brother ’s friends, Tyler. She has been extremely lucky in that she can focus on her sport with full financial support of her wealthy family. Lest you think she is a snobby trust fund kid, she is down to Earth and totally focused on going for gold in the Olympics. Gabe is a geophysicist who is working on his doctorate in volcanology. He is definitely more mature and a little bit older than Kaitlin. He’s just as dedicated to his studies as Kaitlin is about snowboarding. His good looks, brains, and charm make Kaitlin take a chance on him. While in Iceland, Kaitlin meets several interesting characters. These young gap-year travelers don’t add too much to the story, but they do provide some color and a backdrop for readers to get to know more about Kaitlin. I didn’t feel like Tyler was developed much more that the other secondary characters even though he is the sole reason that Kaitlin has traveled to Iceland. O’Neal’s writing is crisp, clean and descriptive, and her plot is well paced. O’Neal’s descriptions of Iceland’s northern lights, mountains, and folklore inspired me to add it to my list of places to visit. She snuck in some important messages about following your passion and being open to compromise into her sweet, tender story of love and friendship. I was charmed by the main characters’ magical connection as well as the ABBA song, Take A Chance On Me, mystically coming on the radio whenever the two needed a nudge to take a leap of faith in one another. My dad was a military man and he and my mother traveled a lot before my sisters and I were born. They always told us how beautiful Iceland was and when I read the description of this book I instantly knew I had to have it. The story follows Kaitlyn, a professional snowboarder, as she sets off to find her friend Tyler and her path in life really - while running into a hot geophysicist named Gabe (who is dreamy) in Iceland and having lots of fun and hot sexy times along the way. Oh and there is a volcano that erupts which strands everyone. First let me start off with.. I read a lot. I mean, A LOT. Usually I can find something within a book that sparks my interest and I can hang onto that and it keeps me going until the end. I struggled with Extreme. I liked most everything about it. But nothing about the story just snagged me. The characters were good, but not great. The story was steady but I found my mind wandering. I think maybe this has something to do with my age (im 39). My mind is wanting to put this in the YA category but with good sexy times. I think if i were in my early 20s, I might have enjoyed this much more. I want to blame myself because really looking at the book as a whole, its beautifully written. I can tell the author is good, she knows her stuff. Its :( My opinion only.. I give Extreme 3 WickedGoodStars. I liked it, but I didnt love it. I do however appreciate the opportunity to read and review the book.

You know, this book didn't follow the path I expected for it at all. And I'm glad, because it was a great read.I made an immediate connection with the characters and the story as a whole. The author transports the reader to a land of drama and beauty which pales beside the beauty of the developing relationship between Gabe and Kaitlin. There was a real depth and intensity of feeling between the two which was perfectly imagined for me. My only criticism (and it's really more of a niggle) was the ending - out of the entire story, that was the one part which felt a little contrived, and perhaps a little too convenient. But apart from that, a thoroughly enjoyable tale.I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is a very well written book that is so well developed. I loved the characters and really can't wait to see what happens in the next book!! Kaitlin is really a sweet character that is somewhat naïve in some ways that you can't help but really like her, and with the romance from childhood trying to understand her way through it while finding new love. What's not to like. Tyler finding the journal in the airport what tiring to make since of his own life is very interesting and I'm hope for more on him in to see where his path leads.

This was a sweet, well-written, enjoyable book. Kaitlin has won an Olympic gold medal in snowboarding and is continuing to compete, when she gets a text from a friend, Tyler, who has been out of touch for months. She travels to Iceland to see him and meets Gabe, a grad student studying volcanoes. Following Kaitlin's adventures as she develops her relationships with Tyler and Gabe was so fun, and I can't wait to read the next book! It can be read as a stand alone, though is the first of a spin-off series with related characters. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book!!! Lark O'Neal's writing is just so heartfelt and touching and luscious!! A very real and tender story about two people's instant collision into love set in the remarkable world of Iceland in the winter during a volcano eruption. Both Kaitlin and Gabe are interesting, smart, and so perfect for each other! Exotic, erotic, and very tender. Happy tears. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review and I am so happy to have read it. YOLO indeed!!

Here's a spin-off novel from the Going the Distance series. Get ready for a hot "fling" in Iceland which centers on Kaitlin Bouvier, Olympic gold medalist snowboarder. The simple plot begins like a love triangle in which Kaitlin is faced with helping her long time crush, Tyler, and then meets graduate student, Gabe Walsh. Watch out for the very steamy sex scenes! Thanks to the Inner Circle for the copy of this book.

ExcellentI can't wait for the rest of this series. I am in love with all of these kids! Gabe is the sweetest of them all. You will be disappointed if you do not continue this series and overly disappointed if you don't read any of it. Lark is an amazing author! I will read anything she has written from now on.

A wonderful romantic story as always. I loved the meet up, the people, their lifestyle. I love how much they care for one another and don't belittle each other and of course I love the ending where they try to make it work forever.
