Disclaimer: Gisele is my friend but this has no bearing on my rating.Love is not acting like a psycho. So, Brennan and Lamar are the main love story of this novel. I liked Brennan because she's resourceful and lives in difficult circumstances. Lamar I didn't care too much for, but then he's rich and I usually dislike reading about rich people. For me, the real star of this novel was Sani. Handsome, damaged, abusive Sani. She’s so fucking beautiful that I wanted to smash her face, but I didn’t.Is it any surprise that I liked the most fucked up character in the book? Yes, Sani does such bad stuff, and he should not be anybody's boyfriend, but for some reason I found his thought process really compelling. And then there were times my heart just broke for him....there’s a note beneath the stone that reads, ’I shood have ben beter to you.’He tries. It's not good enough, but he does try.I keep reading and going to tutoring, I smoke 2 to 3 days a week instead of everyday, and I did yoga once, so I’m like fuck it, I’m going to get my woman back.Yeah, you do that, Sani.I like this author's style. It's first person present tense, but it comes out as kind of a stream-of-consciousness style that I can get behind. She somehow manages to convey her story from one person's perspective without a lot of dialogue or traditional scene-setting. I don't know, it works for me.I'm definitely interested in Sani getting his own book, because I really want to know if he can be redeemed in any believable way.

This was a new author for me and I truly loved her detailed character building (Brennan, her mother, Lamar and Sani) and how she handled writing a supernatural story with relatable social issues. The love triangle was interesting too! Reread January 12, 2017changed rating to 4.5 stars ****.5

«Wolf Girl finds a Nec-romance» is a fantastic author debut! But here is the thing, I don’t like teen stories/YA stuff… However, when I came across Gisele’s book, the title hooked me ^.^ - because, ya know… I like dark stuff and ‘Necromance’ sounded dark to me, as well as part of the blurb. So I gave it a try and…What a wonderful surprise! What’s special about this book? For starters, the way it is written. Each chapter with the perspective of a character. This way we can see multiple perspectives about some of the events and it is totally cool to learn how each of them experience and see things. The traits and personalities of the leads and support characters was really well-done. That’s one of my favourite aspects of the writing. I got really impressed by how lively Brendann, Sani and Lamar are. How each of them are completely tridimensional and have a true life story behind them. The plot twists were also great, some of them you may expect, some may catch you as complete surprise. I went from laughing to sadness, since the story shows funny and cruelly sad reality of Brenndann and her family, specially. This is a drama-comedy-romance, and if you are into knowing how someone young life’s is going to take a turn, for the worse and the better, you may want to read this book. (Also great for fans of supernatural fiction, this has a cool and light dose of it!)PS: Almost forgot to add: the book also shows several social issues, like the author points out on her own review, and it was all well done. I got heartbroken by learning about the female lead' life, for example. I think it was very nice to raise some awareness for such things as kids raised in poverty, drug problems and the like.

This book gets a 4 for Brennan alone. She's a multidimensional character with layers of depth and family issues. Her home situation is most certainly not the best and her mother is at the heart of it all. She's a good example that the apple does not always fall close to the tree. She's everything her mother is not, which makes her a great character. She definitely deserved a happily-ever-after with a man like Lamar. My only disappointment was the author's tendency to do more telling than showing. She creates great characters, writes strong dialogue, and does introspection quite well.

Wolf Girl finds necRomance is a fun supernatural read, but because I'm a social worker at heart, it also focuses on social issues such as poverty and abuse. Brennan is beautiful and hard-working, and tries to remain positive despite her tough living conditions and controlling boyfriend. When she meets Lamar, a spoiled rich necromancer, she has to decide between the boys, and plan for her own future.

I received this book through LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review. It's definitely not within my normal genre of books. But I thought I would live outside the box and give it an honest read. The characters that this author portrayed were easily defined. I did find it hard the jumping back & forth between Brennan and Lamar/Sani. I really enjoyed the dynamics of this book. I felt bad for Brennan and her family situation. I kept having to remember that from what I've read elsewhere some of those dynamics are animalistic and normal.I did read the entire book and enjoyed it. I was thrilled for the ending and glad that it ended the way it did. I would definitely like to read more of Gisele Walko's works. Thanks!

When I first started reading this book I couldn't keep up. I had no idea who was who or what was going on. It took some time to finally understand how everyone fit into the story. It was like reading 4 different diaries at once, going between them all. But once I was able to see how everyone connected it was a good read. I didn't really understand why it mattered so much that they were interracial. But the story was okay. And ended well. Worth a read.I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

I like the storyline, but this book just fell short for me. I guess I compared it to another work by the author and it just didn't quite measure up to the love I had for the other work. This is still worth the read and think many will find it enjoyable. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review via LibraryThing.
