John Piper writes, “Books don’t change people; paragraphs do–sometimes sentences…One sentence or paragraph may lodge itself so powerfully in our mind that its effect is enormous when all else is forgotten.” *This is a book that can change you because it is a feast of paragraphs and sentences about God’s grace. C.S. Lewis once told a group of scholars that grace is the belief that is unique to the Christian faith (location 13). Alcorn writes, “Nothing is as stunning or as hope-giving as God’s grace” (location 11).This is a contemplative book. There are 202 days of readings each a page long or less. It includes a verse; a quote or two from the likes of Spurgeon, Calvin, Luther, John Piper, Tim Keller, Charles Dickens, etc.; and a few sentences that connect the two about grace. Each day is worth reading slowly and thoughtfully. I have highlighted so many things that I want to paint or print and put up on my wall. Each reading could be read in a minute or two and thought about for hours or days. It would be a great book to stow in the bathroom and be infused with grace before going out again to face whatever is going on around you. I felt I was getting showered in grace over and over again and I know it is a book that I am going to keep coming back to because it is so rich and keeps pointing me to God, the true source of all grace.I can’t review this book without sharing a few pearls.“Grace never ignores the awful reality of our sin. In fact, it emphasizes it” (location 35).A.W. Tozer said, “Grace is the good pleasure of God that inclines him to bestow benefits upon the undeserving…” (location 41).“Deliberately and unceasingly, the tide of God’s grace brings us wave after wave of God’s goodness. The next wave crashes onto the beach before the previous wave is diminished” (location 68).“What if many of our most painful ordeals look quite different in a million years, as we recall them on the New Earth? What if one day we discover that, by his grace, God has wasted nothing in our life on Earth? What if we see at last that every agony was part of giving birth to an eternal joy?” (location 170).I could share something from each reading. This is a powerful collection of Biblical wisdom and grace. I highly recommend it.Thank you to Harvest House and Netgalley for providing me with a free ecopy of this book for the purpose of this review.

"Grace" by Randy Alcorn is a daily devotional that revolves around the theme of God's grace. Each devotional presents a Bible quote, a short text from the author, and it finishes with a quote from a well-known personality.I will put it simply: this is the best devotional that I've found so far. What a great subject (grace), and what a great book! Each aspect of each daily devotion works very well: first, a Bible quote, which allows the reader to get a glimpse at the Word of God. Then, the author quickly develops a "food for thought" of a few but well written lines. Each devotion was very inspiring and they helped me have precious moments meditating in the Word of God.This book is perfect for short devotionals in the morning, before the day starts. Each devotional reads fast (in a minute or so) and it will push you into meditating in that aspect of grace for a while.Disclaimer: I received an advanced copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This book is meant to be read like a daily devotional but I couldn't help but to read it straight through! Grace was presented with truth. Encouraging and spot on messages are within!

Grace: A Bigger View of God's Love by Randy Alcorn is a very highly recommended daily devotional which focuses on God's grace. "Because of Christ’s work, God’s door is always open, his supply of grace always overflowing. May we remember each day just how desperately we need the grace of Jesus. Because of his freely given grace, we have every reason for gratitude and happiness."Grace features 203 daily meditations that begin with a scripture verse, followed by brief thoughts from Alcorn, and conclude with inspirational quotes. Alcorn says, "I hope you’ll spend time meditating on the brief reflections, great quotations, and Scriptures in this book. God promises that his Word 'will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it' (Isaiah 55:11)."The short (1 page or less) devotions have a natural built in versatility. The brief meditations in this daily guide can be the impetus for further reflection and memory work, or a quick daily reminder of how we need to accept God's continued grace and how much grace we have already received from Christ. They may be short, but there certainly is much that can cause further reflection and study.Because I received this as an advanced review copy, I didn't have the luxury to use Grace as Alcorn hoped it would be used - as a daily devotional - but rather had to read it quickly. The good news is that I can now go back and reread the passages, memorize verses, and reflect on the daily messages. We all need grace. I still reflect on a message I heard years ago: "It's been said that learning to respond gracefully to ungraciousness is like learning to play the piano....if you didn't encounter people who treat you ungraciously, you'd never have the opportunity to learn to practice grace of your own." Alcorn's devotional can help us all reach that point where we can practice grace of our own because of the grace God has extended to us.Disclosure: My advanced reading copy was courtesy of the publisher for review purposes.

I love books like this. They are great for when I am feeling down or confused and need some encouragement. It's like having a quick hit of God when you need a reminder/recharge.*I received this book for free through the Good Reads First Reads program.

We must see clearly about we can do and what our gracious and merciful Jesus already has done. If we get it right about Jesus, we can afford to get it wrong about secondary things. If we get it wrong about Jesus, it doesn't much matter what we get right. Grace is one of those things we need to get right. For 203 days, you have a short reading with scripture, commentary and a quote that stays with you all day. To be honest, we will never know all about the grace of God and the implications but as we open our hearts to our need of Grace, we can know the heart of God. Grace has many implications for our life and how we live, how we love, and how we worship. Each day touches on all that and more. I highly recommend this treasure of grace to be read for years to come. To familiarize ourselves a great salvation that we have because of Grace. A book that is sweet blessing.A Special Thank You to Harvest House Publishers and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaways. It wants to be a page-a-day calendar, but it is a better book, so the right decision was made to publish it as such. I can't figure out the significance of 203 days of readings, though. For me, the best bit of wisdom in the book came on day 42: "When asked, 'How are you doing?' a good response is, 'Better than I deserve.'" This book will also satisfy the 2016 Watauga County Public Library Reading Challenge category: A Book About A Religion Other Than Your Own.

Grace is a daily devotional with an emphasis on the grace of God. The daily writings are short and take no longer than 5 minutes to read. Some are original to the author, but most are quotes from other writers. Some are profound, others are not, but they all cover the theme of grace. A good read if you like the daily format. This book was provided for review free of charge by Netgalley and Harvest House Publishers.

I used this book as part of my daily devotions and found it to be edifying, challenging, and thought-provoking. It is divided into 202 daily readings, and I don't think you'd want to read more than one day at a time because each one is packed with such truth. This is definitely "meat" not "milk" nourishment for the believer, although not at all written in a way that is hard to understand.

I received this book as a First Read. It's 203 days of Scripture followed by a brief discussion of the passage and then a quote. I think the book would've been better with a more in depth analysis and discussion of how grace pertained to each Biblical passage. The read was also a bit dry so more humor or passion would've been nice.

Every entry provides Scripture, wisdom from Randy Alcorn, and quotes from proven godly leaders of years past. What an inspirational balance! I’m having a hard time keeping myself from reading several days’ worth at once. Grace: A Bigger View of God’s Love will be a book I keep to refer to again and again to strengthen my faith as the years go by.

This is a daily read about God and His Grace. If you are not aquainted with God and /or His grace is an excellent book to begin a journey with God. We are all on a journey anyway so might as well not go alone. His grace never ceases to amaze me just as all He is never ceases to amaze. Walk with my best friend thru this little book and be amazed yourself.
