Laguna Heights by Kaira Rouda is the 2nd book in her Laguna Beach series and like the previous installment can be read as a stand-alone. In this installment readers are reacquainted with Annie Johns, who made a brief appearance in book one. Annie is a former teen reality TV star whose past is shrouded in secrets and now that past has come back to haunt her. The story moves between the past and present, allowing readers to experience what Annie went through while in college. We see her meeting Chris, who she thought was the man of her dreams, but who turned out to be her worst nightmare. Annie had failed to see Chris as the narcissist that he was until it was too late, at which point she paid the ultimate price. Annie was able to move past these events with the help of close friends, including Hank, who would eventually become her husband. Everything was going well for Annie until Chris returned to claim what he believed to be his. Now Annie is faced with the biggest dilemma, that of telling her husband the secret she has kept hidden all these years. Is their love strong enough to survive this secret? The story was well written and it held my attention to the end. I was anxious to see how things would turn out. During the time Annie spent with Chris I feared for her as I had no idea what he was planning to do. It was evident that he was unstable and his likelihood of exploding increased exponentially when things did not go his way.Laguna Heights shows the negative impact that being in an unhealthy relationship can have our mental and physical well-being. It portrays how victims of abuse usually fail to see the signs that they are in an abusive relationship. It also shows that with the right support system one can experience healing and discover what it means to be truly loved. This was a great story and I would definitely recommend it.I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.

The Laguna Heights novel drew me in right away and held my interest to the very end. I couldn't put the book down because I wanted to know what would happen to Annie, both the present and past parts of the story. I wanted to know how she'd handle the situations as well. Annie seemed like such a sweet girl in Laguna Nights and the way the novel had described how she was portrayed on their high school reality show. Even the nicest and supportive people can have horrible things happen to them, much like Annie did. Annie's relationship with Chris in college seems to move very quickly. There were parts of the novel that, as a reader, I could see there were signs that Chris was not completely stable or that their relationship wasn't healthy. I feared for Annie. I'm pleased that she had people to turn to in times of trouble. I would hope anyone in an unhealthy relationship would have someone they could turn to for help. Hank was there to help Annie get through the Chris situation. He was caring, understanding, and loving towards Annie during that hard time. They eventually got married and have kids. Now Chris is showing back up, threatening the secret Annie has kept from Hank, and could possibly damage the marriage Annie's formed with Hank. I kept hoping for the best for Annie throughout the novel. I had to keep reading until the end to know how Annie's situation would turn out. I am very pleased with how the ending turned out. I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.

It 's a compelling novel, romantic but with intrigue, secrets, twists. The author hooks me from the start. As soon as I started reading this one, I could not put it down, I have read it in one afternoon.Annie's life had been serene, perfect, with wonderful parents, great friends and a fun and profitable experience in Laguna Nights, the famous reality show for kids. Until college she had met Chris. A handsome and charming guy but very violent. She has lived a nightmare with him and when she seems to be rid of him realizes she was mistaken .....Laguna Heights is the second book in this series and can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone novel. The protagonists of books in the series have in common of having participated in the reality show "Laguna Nights" when they were in high school. Annie is the best friend of Madison, the protagonist of the first episode. I look forward to reading the third. It 's a short but intense reading, engaging, light but by no means trivial. It's beautifully written and the characters had so much depth that you felt as though you knew them. The storyline flowed perfect and the pace is really fast, thanks to the continuous jumps between past and present.I have no hesitation in recommending it highly.

"And the truth shall set you free" - I don't know who first coined this phrase but this book proves just how right it is. All or at least most of us made mistakes when we were younger--did things we are now not so proud of--dated the wrong people but came away stronger and with our psyches in one piece. Not so Annie--she was so traumatized and embarrassed it took many years for the whole truth to come out. This novel delves into Annie's college years where she met a man she thought she loved--then met the man she truly loved. Stalkers can be frightening and Annie's ex was definitely one and a frightening one at that. Luckily Hank understood and they ultimately got married. Then that fateful day when a man banged on Annie's car window as she was ready to drive home from grocery shopping----it was the demon from her past come to haunt her once again! Will Annie and Hank's ideal and happy marriage be able to withstand the secret that Annie has been hiding all these years? Read the book and you will find out!!Laguna Heights

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~I have to admit that I have not read the first in the series - but having enjoyed this, I just might! The premise behind the book - of a reality tv star being stalked by a fan, and now, years later having to deal with the stalker returning to disrupt her now normal life - is excellent. We do, after all, live in a time where celebrity is king, and yet fleeting at best. So considering what happens after the cameras move on to the next star is a great start for a book. Although this is quite a quick read, it manages to delve into some difficult issues, and give us a quiet hero, worthy of the name. I will be looking out for more books in the series.

Secrets, betrayal, fear. Annie had lived with those most of her adult life. Coping was not easy but she managed until she got the shock of her life. A visit from the past. Now one shocking night of violence threatens to destroy all that she holds dear. Kaira Rouda has written a story that every woman should read. Annie was trapped within a prison that she created to escape the events of the past. Her predicament angered me because she didn't deserve the fall out she had to endure because she trusted the wrong person. The seriousness of this story is evident from the first page. One devastating event led to a spur of the moment the decision that could topple her whole world. Laguana Heights is gripping, heartbreaking and triumphant. I received an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review. A stunning piece of fiction that lingers on after the last page.

This book is book 2 in the Laguna Beach series. In this book we learn more about Annie and her past. Our past always has a way of coming back to haunt us no matter how much we try to leave it buried. Our past experiences define us as to the person we currently are today. This is very true for Annie. Annie hasn't had many relationships in her life. She met her husband Hank in college. The man she dated before Hank is Chris. Chris is/was very abusive.I fell in love with this book and couldn't put it down. The story just flows and I found myself caught up into how Annie was feeling. I've been in abusive relationships myself. They leave a lasting effect on you.I can't wait to read book 3.I received this book for free in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions in this review are 100% my own.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. This is one of those books I read on a trip "down south" as my husband calls it, to visit my family in Southern Missouri. It took me just about 3 hours of the 5 1/2 hour trip to read this book, start to finish. I was absolutely intrigued with Annie's story! I loved reading both about her present day life along with her life when she was in college!Chris was a nutcase. From the beginning I felt off about him. His anger was not a good thing. His protectiveness, obsession, and controlling nature with Annie, just really made me feel sorry for her!I loved Hank. He was a complete 180 from Chris and I love that Annie and him hit it off so quickly!I thought the story was awesome. I enjoyed learning more about Madison's best friend!

Laguna Heights is book two in the Laguna Beach series. We met Annie briefly in book one, and this book is hers. The book alternates between present and past, showing us Annie's college experiences, her brush with a violent boyfriend, and how she met and fell in love with her husband. I really like how the author shows us how loyal college friends can be. Annie has both girl and guy friends that support her and lead her in the right direction when she gets into a situation she's having difficulty getting out of. In the present, I love how her husband is supportive of her as her past comes back to haunt her. This book is a good example of young love, and mature love, all wrapped up into one. 5 stars.

***.5 "Laguna Heights" (Laguna Beach book 2) by Kaira Rouda"Laguna Heights" is the second book in the Laguna Beach series. This one focuses on Annie and her current relationship with her husband when an abusive ex returns after many years and the secret she has been keeping to herself for over a decade. The premise of the novella was interesting and has a strong story line, there are several unanswered questions that would make the story a tighter and stronger novella, some timing inconsistencies, etc that take away from a novella that could be top of the line. That aside, the story and the main premise of the novella are pertinent and are addressed fairly realistically. This novella is a good addition to the series and is definitely worth a read.

I received an ARC of Laguna Heights by Kaira Rouda in exchange forn honest review...WOW!!! I couldn't believe this story when I read it. I grabbed me from the word go. It's back up in Laguna Heights with Annie from the show. Only she's not alone and she's not happy to see the guy who has found her. This book takes a look at the darker side of teen celebrity and what happened to Annie because of it. Luckily she now has an amazing husband who loves her and is true to her. Amazing read.

**I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.**I just loved book one in the series Laguna Nights, and in that we meet Annie - she came across being such a sweet, nice girl that when I started this book I wasn't expecting her story to be how it was. This plays out in the present where she is married to Hank and has children. and also 10 years ago when she had finished with high school and the tv series and was now at Uni. She is used to being recognised and when she meets Chris it is no different, Their relationship progresses very, very quickly and actually from the first moment we meet him I instantly thought he was bad news. And boy was I right!I don't want to spoil the story but sweet Annie went through such a horrendous time with Chris and it became clear that he was in fact a stalker. When she finally managed to break free from him she meets Hank. He helps her deal with the Chris situation, but there was a secret she was even keeping from Hank.I felt the ending was a little rushed, but it was more an epilogue of points that happened after the finally confrontation with Chris -**(I just re-read the last chapter and I guess it was the best way to play it out or else Kaira could have gone on and on :) (in a good way!)**This was an entirely different story from book one and I absolutely loved the fact that I wasn't expecting this to be how Annie's story played out. It had me hooked from the very beginning and I read it in a few hours as I just couldn't put it down.5 stars!

I read Laguna Nights (Book 1) of this series earlier this year and fell in love with it - it became one of my go-to books for when I wanted to escape to the paper version of reality TV. After the craziness of book 1, I couldn't wait to see what Kaira Rouda had cooked up for Annie and Hank like she did with Madison (Holly) and Josh. Annie and Madison were best friends in school and on the hit show, Laguna Nights. I love the display of their friendship!! Even though Annie is the "nice girl", she has some skeletons in her closet that would be devastating to her family and marriage if they fell out. Life is perfect - a loving marriage and beautiful kids; but as fate would have it, a wrench is thrown in the mix. Chris, Annie's old boyfriend (controlling/crazy one at that) shows up and continues to prove that he's no good for Annie. He threatens to destroy the perfect life that she's created. I was FURIOUS that he would do this to Annie and her family. This book encourages couples to have a full, open line of communication despite how difficult the past may be. I mostly felt bad for Hank. He is such a wonderful, supportive husband and I didn't want to see him pushed to his breaking point. My heart broke for both Annie and Hank!If you haven't read Laguna Nights, I recommend checking it out to get a little background information!I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.

Annie and Hank met in college. Unfortunately for Annie, she met Chris first. For years now, she has been blocking out some of the past with Chris and now that he has reappeared in her life, she is must tell Hank all of the truth. Kaira Rouda tells a compelling story about a topic that is in the news on college campuses all too frequently these days - date rape. New York State has gone so far as to make a law, without any penalty under the state penal system, that requires a yes for each step of the "hooking up" process. The penalty is more what the college can do to students than what the penal system can do.Having read all about Annie and her part in the reality show Laguna Beach, I was intrigued to get more into her character. I happily read this book when usually books that detail violence against women - and that is what rape, whether date rape or not, is - have me putting the book down. With the chapters rotating between present day and ten years before on the campus at UCIrvine, I never felt the need to put this book down. I wanted to know what happened in the end.

Following on from my review of the previous book (Laguna Nights) this one hit the spot .. I had been looking forward to finding out more about Annie, Madison's friend & I wasn't disappointed. A lot more depth .. the story flits between now & her earlier life which I found a little disconcerting to begin with but once you get used to the writing style it actually eases understanding.Annie was also a tv reality star & something that happened in her past is threatening to spoil her future .. this is a shorter book but in my opinion packs in a lot more emotion, tension & enjoyment. It just goes to show how things can catch up with us & is an impressive account of living with abuse & overcoming it with help from friends/family.I'm curious to see if the next in the series lives up to this one! Thanks to the author & Pump Up Your Book Tours for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest opinion.

I have one problem with the book…it ended!! This is the second in the Laguna Heights series and it was fantastic (even thought I read number three before this one, which is great because you don’t have to read them in order). I love the series. Author Kaira Rouda has really written a great series. This book is about Annie and Hank who are happily married with two kids and one on the way. The book goes back and forth in today’s time and Annie’s past. Something happened in Annie’s past that she has been very secretive about that could destroy her happiness when Chris suddenly shows up. The book has love and heartache in it and a few tears. Rouda does a great job of describing the characters and I like the method of going from the past to the present. As I said the only problem was the book ended. I enjoyed it so much I wanted it to continue. There was so much more that could go on with Annie and Hank.

A few years back, Annie had been a regular on a local reality show. When she met Chris at college, he practically gushed over her, like most people did when they recognized her. He was ruggedly handsome, and there was no denying the chemistry between them. He quickly became the perfect boyfriend that she’d never had. But one night changed everything between them. Now, a decade later, Chris is back and Annie’s perfect life is threatened to be ruined by the secret she has kept all these years.Annie is such a lovable character, and fun to follow. It’s inexcusable what happened to her. Thankfully, this darkness didn’t define her all these years. It may have followed her, but she still had become a light-hearted, carefree individual. You have to admire that. I wish Madison had been involved more in the story, since she was Annie’s best friend. But I can’t deny the story played out better than I thought it would.

I was literally so EXCITED to jump back into the Laguna Beach series and DEVOUR Annie's story!!! And what a story!!! Wow, was this novel addicting to me and so full of surprises. Kaira has such an awesome way of writing that makes you feel like her characters are your long lost friends. I was so happy to be reunited with them. Annie has been hiding a secret and living with it for a long time. But when her secret from her past shows up in her town, she knows it's time to tell her husband exactly what happened. Will her husband Hank stand by her side and love her unconditionally? Or will her past ruin her happily ever after. This book is a real page turner!!! I love Kaira Rouda's books!!! So fun and so addicting! Laguna Heights is #2 in the Laguna Beach series. It works great as a standalone. But honestly, book #1 is so awesome too, that I wouldn't suggest missing it. GREAT, FANTASTIC READ!!! Don't miss it!!!

I have a dirty little secret...I LOVE watching reality TV while I grade essays. Mindless chatter keeps me awake when reading particularly dry essays. Kaira Rouda is combining two of my favorites: Reality TV and reading. Laguna Heights is the second in a series that takes a look a the life of the stars after the reality show has ended. Years have gone by since these teenagers last spent serious time in front of the camera. Life has changed drastically for just about everyone on the original cast. Annie and Hank seem to have the idea life, marriage, kids, a home in Laguna Beach. What more could they possible want...Annie wants things to stay the same forever, but in walks her dirty little secret. Will Hank stand by his loving wife through her difficult time? Heck, should he? I'm not sure I would...You'll have to grab a copy of your own to see her life changing secret is.I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

Annie and Hank are the happy couple that their Laguna Nights friends strive to be, but Annie has a secret that could destroy their future. Annie and Hank have a beautiful family and lots of friends, seemingly the perfect life. But when Annie's past surfaces will their family survive?I really enjoyed reading Annie and Hank's story (and having it tie in to Laguna Nights). My only complaint is that I enjoyed them so much that I wish this was a full length novel, not a novella! You can definitely read Laguna Heights alone, but you'll love it even more if you read Laguna Nights first.I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.

In this book we delve into Annie's past, and we wonder if the secret she's been keeping will ruin her marriage. When I started reading this book I had given myself 2-3 days to slowly read it. I read it in 3 hours, I just couldn't put it down. I loved how in this book we learn about Annie's past and her present. Annie and Hank seem to have the ideal life, marriage, kids, and a home in Laguna Beach. Then Annie's secret comes back to haunt her and I started wondering whether or not Hank would stand by Annie. Have I peaked your interest yet? Want to know what Annie's secret is...grab a copy of your own and find out. Trust me you won't regret it. Laguna Heights is a followup to Laguna Beach and we know see Annie and Hank are all grown up and living the good life. They have a perfect marriage, great kids, and their home is in Laguna Beach. But, if everything was perfect than we wouldn't have a story to read now would we? A secret from Annie's past that she is not proud of re-enters the picture and the perfect marriage and life is thrown a serious curveball. I loved how we found out about the past characters from the reality series and where they are now; however, the drama that is back between Annie and Hank is what makes this story terrific! Loved it and could not figure out what Hank was going to do until the end.

Kaira Rouda delivers Annie's story, another alum of the Laguna Nights reality tv show in Laguna Beach. Annie is living an easy going life with her children and husband Hank, when she is faced with her past. Throwing her in a spin, Annie is support by her mother and friend but needs to depend on her husband to continue to live her life. This is an intense installment, where while it was a quick read, I was glad that it did not labour on, as it deals with heavy issues. This story deals with the realities of what some experience in their life and continually deal with just to carry on, excellent job bringing these matters to light.

I think this was a great second book in a series. I love when an author can keep a series going and hook you in. Annie get a visit from her past and there are some devastating events. It is a book that can be read alone because you are reacquainted with Annie so no need t have read the first one. The book gets into her unhealthy relationship and shows what a negative impact it can have. I cant wait for the next book. I am enjoying this series.

What a wonderful continuation of the story line. This time is has to do with Laura and Scott's relationship or should I say non-relationship. Laura finally decide that Hollywood is not her town, Scott decides that he is looking for other things and Laura is going home to Laguna for a baby shower and gets into a car accident caused by someone else and Paul comes out to rescue her. This is a wonderful story and I don't want to give to much away. I can't wait for #4.

Laguna Heights did not work for me. I was over 60% and I gave up. The writing was fine but nothing about the story or characters grabbed me. The characters seemed flat and incongruent at times.I really wanted to like this book but sadly it wasn't meant to be. Hopefully it works for others.
