4 StarsIt's not going to be nice, and it's not going to be sweet. If you want romance, you've got the wrong fucking guy.I've been waiting impatiently for Alexis to get her book ever since I finished Falling for His Best Friend. I really wanted that HEA for her. It broke my heart knowing what the two Yeung sisters have been through, but Alexis in particular. Losing their mother to cancer, having the same cancer looming all of them and Alexis paid the ultimate prize with her choice. Even though her choice saved her life, it changed it irrevocably as well. Watching her sister in her pregnancy glow is the final straw that sends her to Europe to find herself. While backpacking through all the places she's always wanted to visit she also hopes to lose herself a little too.Luke Jackson is sent by the Ryan Flannery to keep an eye on Alexis since she took with barely a word to anyone. The broody, wounded, and grouchy former pararescuer thinks his job is to keep an eye on the entitled princess, but one chance run in and a sizzling night after later he begins to realize that Alexis is so much more then he initially though.I really enjoyed this installment to the series, even more so than the last one. Then again I do have a weak spot for the broody and tortured heroes. Luke may have mostly physically recovered from the injury that almost cost him his life, but the emotional scars he still carries from that injury costing him the career he loved never vanished. But beneath the gruff and tatted exterior, is a wounded soul and I loved watching Alexis slowly bring him to his knees. In usual Katee Robert fashion the sex scenes were smoking hot and Luke was no slacker on the dirty talk. I think what I enjoyed the most was the emotional connection between these two broken characters that somehow heal each other. I also loved reading about all the places they visit together. Katee did a wonderful job truly allowing the reader to experience all those sights along with the characters. If you enjoyed the other books in this series, you're sure to enjoy this one. An emotional and sexy read with two imperfect characters that are perfect together. I loved it!ARC courtesy of publisher in exchange for an honest reviewFor more reviews visit

4 - "If the glass slipper fits..." Stars!I really enjoyed His Lover to Protect, the third book in Katee Robert’s Out of Uniform series see’s Alexis Yeung, take a little trip around Europe. Having featured in the previous book in the series, I already knew a little about her, and the reasons for her leaving the US for Europe without a word to her family and friends.I have to admit, I wasn’t a huge fan of Alexis or her behaviour in Falling for His Best Friend, so I was interested to see how Katee would make her likeable to me. She did, and she did it well, mainly because you are given the background information to understand her reactions and actions fully. ”I’m just trying to understand you.”I think there was also potential for this book to be too angsty and overly dramatic due to the past issues that Alexis is trying to come to terms with, but the author got the mix of drama/sexy times just right for me.”Darlin’, you got the drop on me once. It wouldn’t happen again.”Luke Jackson, is the other reason I really enjoyed this book; ornery with a side of sweet dirty talker, he ticked all my boxes, and I loved the banter between the two of them in the first half of the book. ”You gave me back a piece of what I was looking for.”Although the tropes are well-known, and you can pretty much guess how everything is going to work out early on in the book, sometimes things just gel together well and offer the reading experience that you are looking for at any given time. I was in the mood for a book of this nature when I picked it up, and it did exactly what it was expected to in that I had an enjoyable few hours with a likeable couple on their own adventure to happiness.ARC generously provided by Entangled, and it was a pleasure to provide the above honest review.

[image error]Katee Robert has been one of those authors that I instantly gravitate towards since she has a way of bewitching her readers. I always find myself getting entangled with her sexy, steamy and yet beautiful emotional stories. And in her newest releaseHis Lover to Protect, I found myself devouring this sweet, sexy, yet touching story in one sitting. If you have read the previous book, Falling for His Best Friend, Alexis Yeung's story was one that I couldn't wait to read since I really wanted her to get her HEA after knowing what she had to endure. Honestly, Alexis's story broke my heart knowing that not only she lost her mother to cancer but also Alexis also had cancer. But luckily for her, she was able to treat and catch her cancer before it spread. And in order to prevent the cancer from recurring Alexis made the ultimate choice to have a hysterectomy. This choice was not an easy choice but she knew she had to do it in order to live but this choice left her feeling broken since her fiance Eric decided to end the engagement since she was considered useless to him since she would not be able to provide him children. And to top it off, her grandfather reminded her what a disappointment she is to the family. And so in His Lover to Protect, Alexis is currently in Europe traveling on her own doing her own self-discovery trip. She didn't tell her family where she is going in Europe and so her family secretly hires Ryan Flannery's friend, Luke Jackson, a former pararescurer to keep an eye on her.Luke secretly tries to follow Alexis as she travels around Europe. Well he tried his best to keep it a secret, but unfortunately his damaged knee makes it difficult to keep him in stealth mode. So when Alexis spots Luke following her, these two embark on a love/hate banter relationship. With hot sexual tension brewing between these two, it was only a matter for these two to get entangled in bed. As feelings begins to intensify as they trek around Europe, what happens when Alexis learns that meeting Luke was no coincidence? I absolutely loved and adored His Lover to Protect. Katee did a fabulous job showcasing romance and an emotional story line that was filled with depth and substance. Katee allowed her readers to feel the raw emotions and vulnerabilities of both Luke and Alexis. She made readers see that Luke and Alexis are not broken people. What I really loved about this book was that Luke and Alexis found emotional healing with each other. Alexis showed Luke how beautiful he is and that his physical scars didn't make him broken. And Luke was able to heal the emotional burden that was inflicted on people who made her feel worthless. I loved that Luke and Alexis love for each other healed their hearts. So if you are looking for a book that had a touching and moving story line that was so tangible and palpable, then I highly recommend you to read His Lover to Protect. We met Alexis in Falling for His Best Friend and I've been desperate to see her get a happily ever after ever since. She has been through so much having to face cancer and come to terms with no longer being able to have children of her own, throw in the treatment she received from her ex and the way her grandfather calls her a failure it's no wonder she has had enough. She is thrilled that Avery is happy but watching her sister's pregnancy is just too much for her and she decides to head off to Europe to get some space and take the time she needs to let herself get over her losses. My heart broke for Alexis when we first met her but she's made of strong stuff and I was proud to see her go out there and live her dreams. She's been knocked down by life but refuses to stay there and it was great to see her start to put herself back together as she visited the places she's always dreamed of seeing.Luke is friends with Drew and Ryan and they've asked him to keep an eye on Alexis for them, they're worried that she took off with little preparation and don't want to see anything happen to her. Luke is recovering from his own injuries and the last thing he wants is to follow a spoiled princess around Europe just because she decided to take off and cause her family trouble. He has completely the wrong idea about her but when they eventually meet he is quick to realise his mistake. There is more to Alexis than meets the eye and he's desperate to uncover her secrets.Alexis and Luke have great chemistry but they're both emotionally wounded and trying to put their lives back together in their own ways. While the story was undoubtedly hot, and Luke is a brilliant dirty talker (my favourite kind of hero!), I think what I enjoyed most was seeing them help each other rebuild their confidence and start to put their issues behind them. I have to admit that I was a little annoyed with Alexis's family for the way they viewed her as so helpless but luckily Luke doesn't take long to realise how wrong they are about her and he helps her see just how brave and capable she is.The one issue I had was with how long Luke kept his identity secret, it was obvious that she was going to be hurt when she found out he'd been sent to protect her and I think I would have had more respect for him if he'd been honest with her sooner. However, things all worked out in the long run so I was able to forgive him quite easily. The romance between them was really sweet and it was great to see Alexis happy again, we also get a glimpse at some of the previous couples from the series and got to travel around Europe a little which made a nice change of setting. Katee Robert has definitely become one of my go to authors for contemporary romance and I'm looking forward to seeing what she comes up with next.

3.5 stars***Review posted on The Eater of Books! blog***His Lover To Protect by Katee RobertBook Three of the Out of Uniform seriesPublisher: BrazenPublication Date: September 7, 2015Rating: 4 starsSource: eARC from NetGalley***Warning: this is an adult book, and for the eyes of mature readers***Summary (from Goodreads):He's never met a challenge he couldn't take...Alexis Yeung did everything right....only to watch everything go horribly, horribly wrong. Broken and angry, Alexis high-tails it to Europe, determined to face the world on her own terms and without consequence. Which includes a mind-blowing night with a sexy, scarred stranger.Except, embittered former pararescuer Luke Jackson isn't exactly a stranger. And God help them, the sex in unbelievably hot. But if Alexis discovers who Luke really is, he'll lose the one thing that makes him feel whole...What I Liked:It's no secret that Katee Robert is one of my favorite romance authors. The Marriage Contract is my favorite of hers, but I LOVE her novels with Brazen. This book was pretty great! I read book one of this series (In Bed With Mr. Wrong), and liked it. I haven't gotten the chance to read book two, but I'm glad and so happy to have had the chance to review book three!Alexis is running from her demons, taking a long vacation in Europe. She's running away from everything that isn't good in her life. Her family is very worried about her, and her brother-in-law has Luke Jackson tail her (without her knowing). Luke is a fellow pararescuer, so he will help out his friend by following Alexis, making sure she's safe. But Luke and Alexis end up colliding, sharing steamy nights together... without Alexis knowing who he really is. Alexis will have to find out eventually - will it be worth it?Both Alexis and Luke are both such scarred characters - mostly emotionally, but also physically. Being in the military has a lot of risk associated with it, and Luke was badly injured while serving. He has a limp in one of his legs, and he is very scarred there. Alexis's scars are less physical, but she carries around with her a lot of guilty, remorse, despair. Something was taken from her that she couldn't bear to lose.I love how Robert dug deep with these two characters. A lot of times, romance novels (like many Brazen novels) have great developed characters, but the complexity isn't on this level that Robert has displayed in this book. You can feel the agony and the pain that Alexis felt, that Luke felt. Both of them have reason to shut down, run away, forget about the world. They argue and fight initially, but they are perfect for each other, in so many ways. The chemistry between these two is scorching! The very first steamy scene is off the charts hawt. If there is one thing that you are guaranteed in Robert's books, it is excellent chemistry between the starring couple. And a nicely developed romance too! I love good chemistry, but also, a strong romance and healthy pair.Diversity! I love the diversity of this book. Robert is good at sprinkling diversity in her books, and I love that in this book, she chose to make a protagonist Asian. I am a fan!I had a bit of trouble with Alexis (see below), but for the most part, I loved this book! It's very short, but very steamy, and very angst-filled (not overwhelmingly so though), and very hopeful. You'll love Alexis and Luke's journey across Europe, the two of them discovering each other in various ways, and the climax - the big issue and how it is resolved. There is a nice ending to this story! What I Did Not Like:I struggled with Alexis, initially. I understand her issues, and I think I know how she felt. But she is such a coward! Running away from her family, so many people who were worried about her, all the way to another continent? It's just so immature! But to be fair, Alexis does grow throughout the story, and doesn't remain cowardly for the entire book. The dynamic seemed weird to me - Luke knowing exactly who she was the whole time, Alexis having no idea. It's almost creepy, someone following you, even if he is a family friend, sent by family. The dynamic of this book just seemed weird because of that. You have to get past it!Would I Recommend It:I would recommend ANY of Katee Robert's books! Especially her O'Malley series. Especially her Brazen books. Basically anything she has written. This one is no exception! It's not my favorite of hers, but I liked it a lot. Romance readers, you will enjoy this quick and dirty (hehe) novel by Robert!Rating: 3.5 stars -> rounded up to 4 stars. I wonder if Robert has more Out of Uniform books up her sleeve? I loooove a man in uniform. Or out of his uniform. That's fine too. Gimmee more books!

I don't give out my 5 star reviews too often anymore, but His Lover to Protect is going down as one of my favorite Brazens. I absolutely loved the emotional depth that Robert brought to this novel. Sure, it's sexy as all get out, but Luke and Alexis are dealing with some very real and crippling issues that will really make your heart ache for both of them. We briefly met Alexis in the previous book of the series, Falling For His Best Friend, and I couldn't wait to get her book so we could see her get her happily ever after. That girl deserves one like no other. She has jumped ship and left home to do some soul searching in Europe and come to terms with so many things that she is dealing with in her life: her mother's death, her inability to have kids, her sister's pregnancy... I honestly can't even imagine how difficult life is for her and it really devastated my heart to see her trying to find a sense of peace in her life. Luke is such a good balance for her. I loved his cranky, gruff behavior and how he and Alexis are constantly going head to head with one another. I felt Robert really handled this type of situation SO WELL. There is consistency throughout the whole book with these two and their dynamic. They don't start off arguing and hostile and then it's all butterflies and love. No. They are hostile and fight against each other the entire book! It's actually great because mixed in is this undeniable attraction and NEED, which makes their romance so great. They start to feel more for one another, and while there are moments of tenderness, Luke never loses his gruff exterior. He has a major chip on his shoulder due to his injury and I love that he lets Alexis in because the two understand the others' brokenness in a way most other people couldn't.I really loved how much these two pushed one another. Luke knew how to get to Alexis and vice versa. Neither one is looking for pity in the other. Instead, they offer understanding. Luke is keeping a pretty big secret from Alexis though, as he has not disclosed that it is her brother-in-law that has sent him to watch out for her. He wants to tell her the truth, especially after he realizes that she's something special. You know this is going to be a problem for the two, but the way Luke makes things right is pretty much the sweetest thing ever and I was really happy with the way their story progressed and concluded. If you're looking for a sexy as sin Brazen with more emotional depth, you definitely need to grab this one. Robert kicked me in the feels with these two characters and I absolutely loved seeing their journey to find peace and healing.*Received a copy of this book via the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.*

ARC REVIEW His Lover to Protect by Katee Robert is the third book of her Out of Uniform series. Not to worry it can be read as a stand-alone. Katee Robert delivers a smokin' hot read. Two people who have survived life threatening circumstances are trying to figure out what to do now.Alexis Yeung is a cancer survivor she lived through the same horrible disease that killed her mother. But Alexis doesn't feel whole anymore; the doctors had to perform a hysterectomy and since then her fiance left her because of it and her very traditional Chinese Grandfather told her she has failed as a woman and disgraced the family. To top it all off her sister just got pregnant. Filling inadequate and lost she ups and leaves for a backpack trip of Europe.Luke Jackson was good at being a soldier, a pararescuer, it's the only thing he has known; until the world exploded around him. Now he has been medically honorably discharged and wondering what he can do with his life now. An old friend and another former pararescuer asks him for help, one of his best friends left unexpectedly for Europe and he wants Luke to follow her just to make sure she stays safe.Luke catches up to Alexis in Ireland walking back from the Blarney Stone. It's fairly obvious she can take care of herself because she knows he is following her and kicks him in the face. Luke plays it up like he just happened to be their at the same time, they end up having a beer together. The sexual attraction between them is palpable and end up in bed together. ( steaming hot! ) Alexis is gone before he wakes up. Luke follows her to Norway then from then on out he travels with her. She admits why she is taking the trek and Luke falls in love with her. She falls in love with Luke but one little slip and she figures it out. Alexis is hurt but Luke is going to prove to her everything he told her everything they shared was real.Overall, this was a really nice, quick read. I'm going to have to looking to reading the first two.

I've enjoyed the previous books in Katee Roberts Out of Uniform series and whilst this isn't my favourite, it's a quick read with emotion and, as is the norm, plenty of sexy-time. With a couple who each have emotional baggage and are handling it the best they can, His Lover to Protect sees Alexis Yeung flee to Europe with no idea her family has tasked former para-rescuer, Luke Jackson with keeping an incognito eye on her. "He was a battle-scarred old wolf, far more likely to eat her whole than give her the sweet kind of sex she craved."I'm a bit torn if I'm honest, because whilst there were parts I very much enjoyed, there were equally others that didn't really work for me. Alexis and Luke took some time to endear themselves to me but, when they did, I very much liked them; with a good chemistry, I enjoyed their banter and the emotional moments between them did strike a chord, but have to say Luke's dirty talk didn't work for me much at all, and all the cock, pussy and clit's were just a little overplayed.Katee Robert has pretty much stuck to her tried and tested formula and whilst His Lover to Protect was fairly predictable, it's still a fair addition to the series. 3.5 stars. My Review:The premise on this one is interesting. Alexis has had some really hard years, but it comes to a head when her sister becomes pregnant...not that that is a bad thing, but it just points out to Alexis that maybe her life isn't all that she'd hoped or dreamed. She drops everything to go on an impromptu European tour. Luke has had his own troubles the last few years after an IED blew him up a little over a year ago. Like Alexis, he's a little broken and a lot scarred on the inside and out. But when Ryan comes to him to chase after and look over Alexis, he's not going to turn down a fellow PJ.Throughout this story, these two characters are truly finding themselves again through one another. They've both dealt with huge blows to what they know about how they should function in life. As a result, they're floundering...for purpose...for 'why's'...for answers to where they go from here. Luckily, they do find those answers...with each other...and across an interesting jaunt across Europe...which is a fun setting/backdrop for the book. Overall, I liked it. I'll admit that you have to suspend a tiny bit of disbelief because Europe isn't a tiny place and for Luke to just find Alexis is highly unlikely. It's even more unlikely for him to honestly expect he could follow her across Europe and she wouldn't notice the same American lurking. But once I got past that, I did enjoy the story. I enjoy the angst that comes from emotionally wounded characters and both Luke and Amelia are great ones. It just creates such an emotionally satisfying story when main characters like this find healing through their love. This one was well done on that front. I also felt like I'd had an armchair tour of Europe at the same time. Overall it was a great escape for the afternoon.I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

His Lover To Protect is a nice addition to the Out Of Uniform series and focuses on Alexis Yeung and Luke Jackson.Luke, tasked with watching over his friends little sister while she traverses Europe, is having a hard time keeping up. Definitely not something a former pararescuer would ever admit to… and once he gets to know Alexis his job of keeping her safe isn’t really the issue anymore, it’s keeping his identity a secret and fighting the connection between them.I have to say that while this wasn’t my favorite, I still enjoyed both the characters and the story. If you read the previous book in this series, you know that Alexis and her family are not on the same page with a lot of things. Her grandparents disagree with her life choices and this has put her on the outs with them, but she is still dealing with the death of her mother and her sister’s pregnancy. I think the thing I liked best, because this is a favorite trope of mine, is that these two did NOT hit it off immediately. Luke’s dark and broody attitude do nothing to endear him to Alexis and admittedly their first accidental meeting has her pointing out the weaknesses in his body. From there it was fun watching these two let down their guards and get to know each other… confiding in one another the things that they hope and dream for. I really enjoyed getting to know them along the way as well.If you’re looking for a fun, sexy romance, definitely check out His Lover To Protect and grab the full series while you’re at it.Thank you to Entangled for an advance copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.

3.5 stars. This was a fun read, although I wanted to kick Luke several times, lol. Here we had Luke and Alexis. She was traveling through Europe, sorting some personal issues; and Luke was the guy with the task of following her and taking care of her… from afar. Because that was the thing, Alexis was not supposed to know he was there.Well, things didn’t turn out that way, lol.Anyway, like I said before, I wanted to kick Luke so many times, the guy was such an ass. I could see why he was like that after learning about his past, but come on, it wasn’t Alexis’ fault. It wasn’t the world’s fault either. However, I did like he made the effort to change, and he finally realized that was no way to live (really, the guy was angry all the time). As for Alexis, I liked her a lot. She went through something really hard and even when she had the support of her sister and father, she was also constantly bullied by her boyfriend and grandfather. I wanted to beat the hell out of them for doing that, but I loved seeing Alexis finally realizing that she didn’t have to listen to those comments. She still had a lot of love around her, that outweighted the meanness. To be honest, I’m not a fan of characters doing things to other characters just because they think is for their best. It drives me crazy, so I was really mad at Alexis’ sister and her friends. Have a little faith on her, for God’s sake. However, I could see where they were coming from, considering Alexis talked very little about her issues with them.In general, it was a fun read, with lots of sexy times and character growth.*Thank you to Entangled Publishing for providing an ARC in exchange of my honest opinion*

Luke Jackson has never met a challenge he couldn’t take until now… he’s playing a game of cat and mouse across Europe that always ends with him and Alexis tangled up in the sheets in this gripping romance. After her life goes horribly wrong, Alexis Young flees to Europe determined to face the world on her own terms and the reader can’t help but get drawn into the story as Alexis and Luke get more than they hoped for. The attraction between Alexis and Luke sizzles with intense heat from every page but both of these characters have to heal from their emotional traumas before they can come together. The fast paced, smooth flowing plot captivates readers with suspense, turmoil and romance while the strong, compelling characters capture the heart.Expectation builds throughout the story as the sparks fly in every direction with some heated clashes and passionate encounters between Luke and Alexis and anticipation builds throughout because Luke is holding out on Alexis and his secret could bring everything crashing down around him. Well written scenes and details capture the imagination and the heart gripping emotions draw the reader in and refuse to let go while the chase across Europe adds spice to the story. This is a romance that makes your heart feel good by the time you are done but has you empathizing with the characters in moments of sadness throughout, it is a story that says to never give up hope because things can get better, it is about overcoming adversity and reaching for more and once you start reading it, there is no way you can put the story down until you know exactly what happens between Luke and Alexis.

One night with a sexy stranger seems like the perfect way to start too, but unknown to her, the stranger isn’t just a random tourist.Luke Jackson has his own demons to face but he’s put them on hold in order to do a favor for a friend. Keeping an eye on Alexis without her knowledge seems easy enough for the former pararescuer but when he’s near her, all logic and skills go out the window. Alexis challenges him at every turn, something Luke finds irresistible. After one night together, Luke finds himself becoming addicted to the cat and mouse game they seem to be playing as he chases her all over Europe.Wow, I REALLY liked this one! Alexis' story was more gripping and emotionally motivated than her sister Avery's.Big props to author Katee Robert for not only getting me interested in the Yeung sisters, but invested in their feelings and their happy endings. That’s not easy to do to! Robert took a character I had zero in common with and made her relatable on the most basic level. I couldn’t help but sympathize with Alexis’ main concern and heartbreak, even if I didn’t share her dreams of having a biological child. There was so much heartbreak involved in Alexis’ life that she deserved a happy ending with a man who could relate to her on that level of pain. More than that, though Alexis deserved to find out how strong she really was. I loved that she was made up of snark, sass and vulnerability. Then there was battle scarred Luke. He was quite literally the male version of Alexis. He suffered terrible pain and now didn’t know who he was because he lost the ability to do something that he felt defined who he was. Where Alexis was tough and snarky, Luke was cranky and rude, but it worked for him. He was a lovable grouch, not a mean one. He knew how to “inspire” Alexis to push forward in her journey of self discovery. He didn’t coddle her, he treated her like an equal and that’s exactly what she needed. I definitely did some heavy sighing with Luke’s dirty talk too. And the charming, caring side of Luke? It was like finding out there was a soft marshmallow inside of a hard, sour candy shell. While the chemistry between Luke and Alexis was smoking hot, it was the emotional healing that both went through that really sold me on the entire story. Both of them were carrying around a lot of baggage and while physical attraction is easy to have with a person, an emotional connection after suffering huge setbacks is harder. There were so many similarities on how they chose to shut down after those setbacks and how it affected their self confidence. As heavy as it could have gotten, His Lover To Protect was a smooth, easy read that I finished in about two days. You know, I wish that there were more Yeung siblings because His Lover to Protect and its predecessor Falling for His Best Friend were sexy, fun romances that I couldn’t get enough of. While I couldn’t understand Alexis and Avery’s dad being so weak as to let his parents talk to his daughters the way they did, and I flat out detested his parents, I did love Alexis and her sister Avery’s true family that included childhood friends and showed a real level of comfort and acceptance.Final Verdict: Yep, still wishing there were more Yeung siblings.

We first met both Alexis and Luke in Katee Robert's second Out of Uniform book, Falling For His Best Friend. They were in the periphery as Alexis' sister Avery and Luke's friend Drew fell in love. And, it was impossible not to want the same happy ending for Alexis since she and her sister had gone through so much loss and heartache. The best part about His Lover to Protect is Alexis' ongoing search for that HEA. Oh, and an epic road trip. After losing her ability to have children and watching her sister fall in love and get pregnant, Alexis just needed to get away from it all. I honestly can't blame her. Her fiance dumped her, her grandfather loathes her, and now she can't escape the fact that her sister has the one thing she never will. How can Alexis come to grips with all of it when it's all staring her in the face day after day? But, when Alexis takes off for parts unknown, Avery enlists Luke's help in tracking her down and keeping her safe. Despite Alexis' plea to just leave her be for awhile, Avery isn't comfortable not knowing where her sister is and when she's coming home. As it turns out, Alexis has set out on a worldwide retracing of some of her parents' steps. At her first stop in Ireland, she runs into Luke, and it's immediately very much a love/hate relationship. I loved this about them. They fight and argue and insult each other mercilessly. And, yet, there's this out of control chemistry there too. PASSION - they have it in all forms and in spades. And, that's never more evident than after they spend one hot night together. They don't know each others' stories, but it becomes clear after that first night together that they've both been hurt, physically and emotionally. The details of their stories are slow to come out - Luke because he's ashamed of his injury that sidelined his military career, and Alexis because she's ashamed of her inability to have children. They throw themselves into this affair with wild abandon, and then both of them freak out when they realize it has become more than that.I like the thought of like being drawn to like. These two tortured, hurt souls are, alone, just lost and floundering after having their lives changed due to physical limitations. But, together, they seem to heal all the broken pieces, and suddenly their injuries are not the life-ending things they once thought they were. But, as is always the case, secrets come back to bite you in the ass. Every. Single. Time. Luke knows it's only a matter of time before Alexis finds out that he's known who she was the whole time, and initially, was only there to babysit her. Once I hit the 50% mark, I was holding my breath, waiting for that moment, because I knew it would suck. His Lover to Protect was a really quick read for me. I read this within the span of one day. Although I wouldn't say this was a light book, it definitely wasn't so heavy that I had to take breaks from all the feels. There was drama, but not too much angst. It was a really nice balance. And, it was a dual POV, which is always my favorite. My only issue was that some of it was a bit unbelievable. If I had a hot fling with a stranger in one country, and then the same stranger showed up in the exact same city in a completely different country a day later, alarm bells would be going crazy in my head. That is absolutely not a coincidence, and I don't know anyone who would think it was - except Alexis.Despite that, I did enjoy Alexis' and Luke's story. I also liked the catch up with Avery and Drew. This was a great romance set among the backdrop of some awesome countries. I can't wait to see what Katee Robert has for us next.

Slick's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book ReviewsFrom the first chapter to the last His Lover to Protect by Katee Robert was intense and sexy with complex characters who despite the situation that brought them together find in each other exactly what they need. I very much enjoyed this installment in the Out of Uniform series. When Alexis Yueng finds out her little sister is pregnant she escapes to Europe to prove to herself she's alive and vibrant and not scared of anything. In her mind it is a great idea, in her heart she feels she's doing the right thing but underneath it all Alexis is struggling and she needs this time to figure out her next step. When she takes out a stranger in an alleyway in Cork, she has no idea that he is the very man her family has sent to keep tabs on her and keep her safe and when Luke Jackson realizes he might go to hell for the lengths he takes to do that he's along for the ride because Alexis stirs something in him that he hasn't seen since before the IED explosion that ended his career and almost ended his life.Right off the bat it was evident both Alexis and Luke were hurting and while their battles were very different in each other they found a kindred spirit. I kind of hated that right up front Luke had to lie to Alexis and I seriously questioned how smart she was when he turned up at her second location knowing that is was a contrived plot device to cause drama later on but I overlooked it because the reality was these two needed each other badly. They needed another person to listen, to not judge, to accept them scars and all and they needed to know that someone understood just how hard it was to move forward every day.I felt for both of these characters and their plights. No one should have to make the decision that Alexis did at such a young age yet it was absolutely the only one she could make and when the people who are suppose to love you don't support that decision that makes it ten times harder. It was easy to see how hard it was for Luke living with the horrors of seeing a friend die, of dying on the operating table and of trying every day to put it behind him and be thankful to be alive all while accepting that his life would never be the same. I loved the intensity of their passion, the absolute way they gave each other everything they had to give and that the bared not only their bodies but their souls to one another and it was easy to see the love building with each passing day.Their journey together was not easy yet I think the roads they traveled were necessary for them both to believe that despite the obstacles together they could do anything. Emotional, sexy, and adventurous His Lover to Protect is a great addition to this series.Review copy provided for an honest review.

His Lover to Protect by Katee Robert is a steamy, fast paced, unexpected romance. Alexis is hurting from what life has thrown at her and when she decides to take off for Europe sending only a text message to her sister, her sister and brother in law decide to send someone to watch over Alexis. Luke is only there to make sure Alexis is safe. He's not happy about it, he has enough going on in his life. Hurt physically and emotionally, he does not want to be trailing around Europe following Alexis, but as a favor he's doing this.Little does he expect Alexis to end up in his bed and in his heart. It's not what either of them were looking for, and neither of them are sure they even want more. But as they end up travelling through Europe together, through the push and pull of their developing relationship something more starts to develop. Can it last? Or is this a vacation fling that will come to a screeching halt when Alexis discovers who Luke really is?I haven't read the previous books in this series, but was able to jump into His Lover to Protect easily. I liked Alexis and Luke and the hidden depths that they have. They do come together very quickly, but sometimes this just real life too! Alexis appears strong, but she is fragile inside and I really felt her emotions while I was reading. Luke has his issues also, but as gruff as he is, I felt a pull towards him as well. I felt like these two developed a great connection quickly, and they were really good for each other. They helped build each other up and this brought them closer faster. Katee did a great job of portraying the feelings of Luke and Alexis. They were real and they really helped bring the characters to life. Katee also makes what each of them is going through believable, and my heart was with both of them.I dreaded what would happen when Alexis found out who Luke really was though. It wasn't something he could keep secret forever, and it seemed like heart ache was in both of their futures. Although for me it seemed like Luke kept his secret far too long, it worked for the plot of His Lover to Protect. The family dynamics that were significant for Alexis were well written and explained, and it made me feel for her even more. They were very interesting from her grandfather's treatment of her to her sister's inability to think a grown woman could take care of herself. The secondary characters in His Lover to Protect are very much on the periphery of the plot. This is really Luke and Alexis's story.I'd recommend His Lover to Protect to any romance reader looking for a sexy, fast read.

Reviewed by KimRating: 3.5His Lover to Protect, the third book in Katee Robert’s Out of Uniform series, is a standalone read. However, readers of the series have been waiting for Alexis Yeung’s story to be told. After losing everything she ever wanted, her ability to have children, her fiance, and the respect of her grandparents, Alexis is broken. Watching her sister Avery have everything Alexis has wanted is too much to bare. In a spur of the moment decision, she packs up and heads to Europe for parts unknown. Alexis and Avery are close. So when Alexis ups and leaves and purposely leaves her cell phone behind, Avery freaks. Not only is Avery freaking out, so is Drew (her fiance and best friend) and his brother Ryan. Since no one can travel to Europe to watch over Alexis, Ryan enlists the help of a retired pararescuer friend, Luke Jackson. Luke is also a broken man, having lost his identity and all he’s ever wanted to do and be when an IED destroyed his knee and future with the Air Force. Ryan’s mission is to keep eyes on Alexis to make sure she stays safe, but not to engage. But Alexis isn’t as helpless and weak as everyone seems to think she is.Alexis and Ryan’s relationship is cantankerous to say the least. When they aren’t busy losing their clothes, they’re arguing. But what’s interesting about this couple is that their back and forth, push and pull really helps them both to overcome the demons within themselves. What was supposed to be a night of Alexis scratching a much needed itch turns out to be so much more. Luke may not be a PJ any longer, but he still holds the conviction of his former job. The USAF Pararescue mission states, “PJs will do whatever required to deny the enemy a victory and bring our warriors home to fight another day.” He does just that for Alexis.Of course, since the part of Luke’s mission to not engage Alexis is shot, he has to walk a fine line so she doesn’t discover who he truly is. It’s going to take Juliet of Romeo and Juliet lore to truly bring these two together. His Lover to Protect isn’t anywhere close to being my favorite book of the series but Katee does give readers a solid story with characters you can become invested in. The story is definitely emotion-based with Alexis and Ryan each needing to heal as a result of their past.**Received a copy from Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest unbiased opinion.**

I received an eARC of the book via Entangled through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. To be honest, I love Entangled titles – their romances do always pack an extra zing to get my interest flowing and I almost always finish their books in one sitting and this book was no exception to the rule. Luke Jackson has just been discharged from his job as a Para rescuer due to medical reason (read: bad knee!) when his friend Ryan requests a very huge favour – his sister in law has left home to travel and he wants Luke to make sure that nothing happens to her! Luke especially has a lot of assumptions before meeting withAlexis , assumptions that do lead to a lot of misconceptions. Alexis on the other hand, has had a lot to deal with – a broken engagement, a medical issue, and the fact that her own family (Clue: Her grandparents) are un-supportive even at the face of these changes. The chemistry between Luke and Amelia is fantastically brilliant. I did love how they connect with each other, without a second thought even when it is not exactly what they wanted at that point in their lives. Luke and Alexis themselves are strong individuals but together they can climb mountains, literally. They are both complimentary to each other and while it takes a while for both of them to open up to each other, the fact that they aren’t blind to how they bring out the best in each other, is perfect in my opinions. This was a perfect mixture of romance, growing up and angst without even letting a single part overwhelm the other! Definite in the re-reads for me! :DFor The Love of Fictional Worlds

ARC provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review..3.5 Condom, darlin' starsThis has been a great series for Katee Robert, and I was looking forward to Alexis Yeung’s turn, given we’d met her in her sister’s story; Falling for His Best Friend (#2 in this series)Alexis had been dealt a major bad hand, and was still coming to terms with the fallout. She decides that travel will help her work things through, and slips away in the dead of night, leaving her distraught sister, Avery, desperate to locate her.Luke Jackson has been asked by his friend, and former work colleague, to search and find Alexis, then follow her, covertly, to ensure her safety. What he didn’t anticipate, was the attraction he felt towards her, and the feeling she stirred within his sullen self. This was a story of two physically damaged souls, coming to terms mentally with both their backstories. Their appeal to each other was blistering, which gave Katee the opportunity to strut her steamy stuff. I adored Luke and his quick realisation that any further wallowing was going to get him nowhere. Coupled with his natural protection instincts, each darlin’ that rolled off his tongue made me sparkle.Alexis came across much more amenable than she had appeared in her sisters story. Watching her fight her fears alongside Luke, was both endearing and sobering. What I found a little over egged, was the mood of the story, quite melancholy, with each characters current frame of mind relayed a little on repeat.I have, however, enjoyed this series, and Katee Robert still sits quite snuggly amongst my list of must-read authors.

His Lover to Protect by Katee Robert was a good solid read for me. This is the third in her Out of Uniform series and it showcased Alexis, Avery’s sister from Falling for His Best Friend. When Alexis takes off for Europe on her own to try to work through some issues, her sister and their friends send an ex-military pararescuer after her to make sure she doesn’t get into any trouble. Luke attempts to stay on the down low, but Alexis notices him following her and confronts him about it. Luke is not supposed to let Alexis know that her family and friends sent him after her, so he makes up an excuse in order to not blow his cover. The two of them have an instant hate/love thing going on which I liked. Their interactions are both smart and funny, and I always like it when the H/h make assumptions about each other that will later be proved incorrect.Luke and Alexis have what Alexis believes will be (a very hot) one night stand in Dublin after which she slips away from him to get to her next destination. Alexis phones her sister to check in so that her sister will not worry and gives away her next stop. Luke is of course informed of this and shows up “accidentally”. From there Luke convinces Alexis to let him tag along on her journey. Along the way, they both reveal some hard things about themselves and begin falling for each other.I’m a big fan of Katee Robert’s work. She writes strong female leads, hot sex scenes, her books can usually be read in one or two sittings and she always gives us an HEA. I’m giving it five stars.

I was really looking forward to reading Alexis' story. At the end of the last book, Falling For His Best Friend, Alexis had left the country when her sister's pregnancy had been the last straw for her fragile mental state. I could understand this. Alexis had fought, and won, against cancer, but she will never be able to have a biological child. She really needed to get away and find some peace. Her sister and her husband, and his brother, were worried about her so they sent a "babysitter" after her. Luke is just getting back on his feet after his knee was destroyed by an IED. He figured trailing around after this chick would be easy, not knowing she was a rabid hiker! His bum knee brings him to her attention...and then she nearly punches his lights out. He likes this feisty woman! He likes her a lot...We all know that when she asks him if he knows her BIL and he lies about it, that it's going to come back and bite him in the butt. I was waiting for that moment...and it was certainly an ouchie one!I'm not sure if the series will continue on, as I didn't see a supporting character that needed their own HEA...but I'm sad that Alexis' grandparents still didn't get a "come to Jesus" moment. They are truly horrible people and deserve some kind of smack down! I did enjoy this, and would really like to see another in the series. Thank you, Entangled and Netgalley, for the opportunity to read this book.

I am new to Katee Robert and the Out of Uniform series but I must say that I did enjoy this book.  Alexis is running from her demons and taking a long vacation in Europe. Her family is worried enough about her that her brother-in-law has Luke Jackson (a fellow pararescuer) tail her without her knowledge. Luke helps out his friend by following Alexis and making sure she is safe. Of course Luke and Alexis end up sharing some very steamy nights together without her knowing who he really is.I really enjoyed how strong both Luke and Alexis are as characters although Alexis is such a coward. I really had a hard time with her at first although as she grows throughout the story I start to understand and like her more. Both of the characters are scarred emotionally although there are physical scars as well. With I think makes them all the more endearing for the reader. At least I know that it did for me. I enjoyed it enough that I know I am going to read the other books in the series!  This review was originally posted on Blushing ReadsI received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. Advanced Readers Copy Courtesy of Entangled Publishing...:)I was super excited to read Alexis's story, as we got to know her a little bit in the previous book and she definitely had one hell of a story to tell.In this one, we find her back packing her way through Europe in a bid to feel closer to her mother as well as come to terms with all that has happened in her life. She not only beat cancer, but by beating it, it took away the possibility of her ever having any kids. Add to that, the fact her fiance left her too and her awful grandparents filling her head with garbage, Alexis has kind of had enough.Luke Jackson is a former PJ and friends with Ryan and Drew Flannery. When they ask him to go follow Alexis and make sure she is ok, he does not anticipate the sparks that fly when the two meet. Luke too is carrying all his former demons around like a nice old chip on his shoulder, as he has a badly injured knee from when he was a PJ, that he resents for all it took away from him. This is basically a story about 2 emotionally wrung out characters who together will have to fight and concur their problems in order to be together. I really enjoyed this 3rd book in the series, as as usual Katee Roberts does it again!!!

I received a copy of His Lover to Protect from the publishers in exchange for honest review.Katee Robert is a guilty pleasure of mine, I haven't read a book of hers that I haven't enjoyed. His Lover to Protect is a great addition to the Out of Uniform series. The book focuses on Alexis Yeung and Luke Jackson. We have previously met Alexis in the second book of this series, Falling for His Best Friend (FFHBF), she is the elder sister of Avery. If you have already read FFHBF you'll know that Avery disappeared when she found out that Avery had fallen pregnant.I enjoyed the travel element to the book, especially as it was European cities I would love to visit myself. I found that I could relate to the feeling of wanting to get away and find the new and improved you or just escape for a little while to come to terms with difficult circumstances.I liked the chemistry between Luke and Alexis. They didn't hit-it-off immediately, with the prickly attitudes, and made it more believable with the build up. If you like steamy chick-lit then this is the book for you. I don't think you need to read the previous books in the series to enjoy this one.

I enjoyed this book and the unique plot of Luke and Alexis backpacking through Europe. Luke was hired by Ryan and his family to make sure Alexis was safe while traveling. Alexis needs this trip to get her life back together. Neither Luke or Alexis thought they would heal one another while on this new and beautiful adventure. They both have emotional and physical scars. This brings them both together and they begin to understand one another better. I really liked how sassy Alexis was and I loved how she wanted to gain control of her life again after she dealt with some really shitty things. Luke was grumpy but in a cute alpa way but after being with Alexis he kind of mellows out. These two have some real steamy scenes and Luke was a dirty talker. Most of all I liked the connection between these two. They really did share a special bond. This is a short steamy read that was enjoyable.

Alexis Yeung's life seems worthless at this point. The cancer that has left her barren also caused a broken engagement and half a family that holds her responsible for being unable to bear children. So she has to "runaway" on a soul searching journey of self discovery, to find purpose to her life once again.Former para-rescuer and loner, Luke Jackson is tailing her undercover, at the behest of her sister and his friend. While keeping an eye on her, they strike up and "un"easy friendship that has each questioning their feelings for the other and considering a possible future. Bitter with life and scarred by their pasts, they find each other to be kindred souls. But if Alexis discovers who he really is, that might be enough to push them further into isolating themselves from the people who love them and further apart from each other.
