Gwendoline Solves A Problem (Gwendoline's Adventures Book 1) Reviews
A very good beginning book to a children's book series. It was a fast (in less than an hour for 59 pages), easy read with a character facing the challenging problem of moving, whether she will even like her new home and room, starting at a new school middle of year, making new friends/enemies, and having some unexpected amazing discoveries (fairies) + adventures. The book does do a good bit of set up of the character and surroundings before almost last minute getting to the problem and solution mentioned by the title of the book. By the end of the book I was wanting to read more to see how the future things mentioned would go (spoiler alert: left us wanting more after the fairy invitation and to see how even the second day of school would go). I did think the character made a very quick judgement call on whether the "mean girl" Della was really mean, seemed like she was rude especially to Gwennie's new friend Amelia and later to Gwendoline...though Gwendoline seemed equally as rude back without ever the thought that maybe Della just was trying to make a friend the wrong way (would be nice if in any future volumes Gwendoline would see that she didn't make it easy to be befriended by anyone else besides Amelia on that first day, and that Della would quit trying to be rude in trying to make friends...then much later maybe they could all become friends...maybe even have adventures together that pull them all close together). The very cute cover illustration artwork is continued inside the book (in just black and white coloring book way), full page sized pictures before every new chapter. Nice larger print and spacing will make it easy for younger kids to read this book/series. In all a great book for both the quality of the book and the quality of the story. I'm reviewing this as a goodreads giveaway book winner.
