the Big Misunderstanding. when an entire premise falls apart if the couple were to have one single conversation, the story is just weak. and then, naturally, they kept getting interrupted until the 60% mark. ugh.

If there's one thing in a book that gets on my last nerve, it's a silly, immature 28 yr old who whines about how a guy broke her heart, but won't explain to him why she suddenly left him. That sort of immature action is typical of a 12-15 yr old.I started skipping forward because it was the same crap over and over...."oh, I'll tell you later." BLECH!!!

This book was ok but I did find the characters really annoying. For a couple that knew each other most of their lives and had been together for years, they certainly didn't trust each other or communicate well. I just wanted to bang their heads together and tell them to grow up. However, I do enjoy a second chance romance and I am looking forward to reading Shane and Cassidy's story next. Their meeting and banter in this first book I found amusing so I hope it'll live up to my expectations.

Just when I was ready to smack people around for not talking to each other (one of my bigger pet peeves) they'd come around and talk, and then something new would crop up. In that way it was less predictable than I'd first thought it might be.I liked this story. It was well written and I could see the growth of Mason and Gina as the novel progressed. Not to give anything away, I'll just say that the struggle felt real, and the character's emotional bravery moved me. It didn't wring quite the same emotion out of me like the Summer Lake books, which is why Mason is short a star. Probably only half a star, though. SJ has written another fine novel. I look forward to more Remington Ranch books.***ARC provided for honest review***

My Rating:4.5Favorite Quotes:“He’d been her first. “He’d told her he intended to be her last. That she was his and always would be.”“He hadn’t even asked her to marry him. It had come up when he was helping her go through her books… He’d told her that they would both gain a significant tax break if they filed as married. And that, for Liam at least, had been all it had taken to determine that they should – and would – get married.”“Harsh as it was, this environment shaped them and defined them. And just like the junipers, transplanting them elsewhere would slowly kill them. At least that is how he felt.”“You don’t love him, you love who you want him to be.”“She kissed him as though she’d never forgotten how, as though the years in between them had never existed.”“It felt right and familiar, yet new and exciting all at the same time.”My Review:I adore SJ McCoy’s writing style and plot lines, having read and delighted in most of her Summer Lake series. Her stories are comfortable, easy to follow, insightful, deliciously steamy, and good for my heart. Her men are definitely strong, successful, multi-talented, and take-charge alphas, yet they are also thoughtful, tender, caring, and love their women deeply. Mason is my new BBF, and I can’t imagine any woman walking away from him, but Gina was being obstinate. I thoroughly enjoyed the contrast between her city boyfriend – Liam - and Mason. Ms. McCoy’s books often involve second and third chances at love, with protagonists who are trying to pull together and enjoy each other - rather than engaging in constant battle and high angst. I was definitely in need of something lighter and softer, and Mason was a perfect fit, just like a large glass of my favorite wine. And while I look forward to more of her Montana adventures, I think it is high time for a return trip to Summer Lake to check on some of Ms. McCoy’s other friends, it has been far too long, and I have missed this feeling of comfort and ease while reading.

Unnecessary dramaThe characters were really annoying. Not much chemistry going on between the H/h.... It was just told to the reader that they were hot for each other but that's about it. Didn't get a sense of what their relationship was before, why they meshed well then or how they still feel they belong together now. The h kept putting off telling H about what happened 10 years ago and I found that to be immature and frustrating. What's done is done!... The two of them are obviously trying to give it another go - they made that much clear so it's not like they need to be afraid of ruining their chances of getting back together again, so whatever happened in the past should be brought to light so they could move on already... and the book drags on!... Everything was handled very poorly between them. For all the love that they profess, it seems rather easy to break them apart for TEN years. They could have figured it out way sooner than that. Makes the story seem rather elementary. Second chance love stories in my mind should involve an unfortunate and inevitable event that cause the couple to break up and by chance they meet up again. It's really hard to cheer them on when they lost love over something as simple as not confronting each other about what's bothering them in the first place... would have saved everyone a lot of time (incl. mine) and heartache. Needless to say, I DNF.

10 years apart due to a misunderstanding have left Gina and Mason both wary of making a mistake that will cause them to lose out on their second chance when circumstances force her home to Montana. This first book for the Remington Ranch series was read out of order as I inadvertently read book 2 a little while ago forgetting had Mason's book waiting in my Kindle library of to-be-read e-books.It honestly did not suffer because of having read Shane's tale first, however do suggest that if one has the chance to start the series do so with this first book as it introduces the main characters who are featured with their own story one at a time. Also note that the men are the protect-and-provide for the little woman type. That being said it may take some time to forgive them for their sexist attitudes as the women are not shrinking violets that need a man to take care of them but rather are the type who need to be equal partners in their relationships.A true contemporary second chance romance where love renewed triumphs over time apart.

I have been a HUGE fan of SJ McCoy’s since I read her first book, she is definitely one of my favourite authors. When she revealed she was starting a new series, away from Summerlake I was a little sceptical, mainly because I am sooooo in love with each of the characters there.Well I was definitely not disappointed when reading Mason’s story. I was definitely rooting for Gina and Mason to figure out their differences. Both characters remember the events around Gina leaving her home town of Paradise Valley differently, however the one thing they always have in common is that they never got over each other. Trying as hard as possibly to move on from the upset she left behind, Gina begins a new life as a photographer in New York. She has a new boyfriend and a shot of getting her work noticed. Unfortunately, as times get harder for her dad, she needs to return to Paradise Valley, 10 years after leaving it behind. Getting everything ready to sell and have her dad move to New York is something she needs to do in person. Gina wants to get the place sorted and back to her life as soon as possible. She really hopes that she doesn’t have to see the man who broke her heart all those years ago.Mason, never really understood why Gina never returned to him as they had planned. Hurt by her actions Mason wants to move on, but her can never get over her. When he learns she is back for a short time, to sell everything, meaning she will never be returning again, he sets out to remind her why she should stay here with him.Can both of them put the last 10 years behind them and get what they both wanted so long ago? Can Gina give up her life and the success which seems to be just around the corner for her? I swear, I want to know where to find these cowboys… Mason is not the only hot one, his brother are equally gorgeous and have every woman chasing them. I can’t wait to see who is the next one to get his story. I am definitely looking forward to seeing more of the Remington boys. Well done on yet another fantastic book.

You can tell from the first chapter that this is going to be one of those bumpy rides. But oh what a ride it was!!! This is a book about Mason and Gina. They share a past where something happened and you can just feel (although you don’t know what it is) that there was a misunderstanding involved. These two have a love/hate relationship going on within the first few chapters. The writing style is easy to read and easy to keep your attention. I can’t say that I noticed any errors. I just enjoyed my bumpy read. There are family characters, there are friends, there are exes, and there are the villain type characters in here. I absolutely loved Mason. He knows what he wants and he knows just the way to get it. I had a bit more trouble enjoying Gina and her stubborn ways. This book will introduce you to a cast of characters that you just know are going to have their own books one day. I love the family feeling that is throughout the book. These brothers are hot and sexy. And may I suggest when you get to a certain back of the pick-up truck scene you go get yourself a cool drink and a fan. You are going to need it. Whew!! Dual point of view. No cliffhanger, but I certainly can’t wait until book two hits the press. If you have never read any of SJ McCoy’s previous works, then I would suggest going to get a sneak preview of another series, The Summer Lake Series (awesome as well).***** I was given an ARC copy of this book in exchange for leaving an honest review.******

Mason is book #1 in The Remington Ranch series of romances. This book is set in Montana and follows a popular story arc of this genre.Gina Delaney is a photographer and currently works in New York, but she longs to return to the mountains of Montana. She worries that her Dad can no longer run his ranch alone, and plans to move him to New York to be with her. Except it's not what Al wants.Ten years ago Mason Remington was Gina's first and only love, but he broke her heart and she ran away. Returning home with the intention of selling the ranch Gina fears bumping into Mason again. But it wasn't just Gina's heart which broke. Mason never knew why Gina left and never came back, she refused to tell anyone the reason and Mason never got over it. But it hasn't stopped him dreaming about her for ten years. Meeting her face-to-face once more and Mason couldn't help behaving like a caveman, wanting to scoop up his woman and run off with her, and judging by Gina's initial response there was still the old spark between them.Determined to get Gina to talk about the past, Mason sets out to win her back, not even a fiancé will stop him, but Mason's a Montana Man "It's part of his destiny to protect and provide", will it be too much for Gina who no longer needs rescuing? Or can he accept her for the woman she has now become?Readers who like their romance filled with hot sexy cowboys will enjoy this series.

I am a serious fan of everything SJ writes so I am always happy for a new book. As much as I love her Summer Lake series, (if you haven't read it, do it now!) there is something exciting about a brand new series with a brand new cast of characters. SJ starts this series off with a bang, establishing a new 'world' with many new stories on the horizon, which makes this fan very happy :). Gina and Mason's story is a second chance romance with some major bumps along the way. After falling in love at at a young age, a misunderstanding rips them apart and causes Gina to literally take her life in a whole new direction. When Mason learns that Gina has finally come back home with the intention of packing up her father and leaving again, Mason decides to do whatever it takes to win the love of his life back. The attraction these two characters feel jumps off the page from the minute they are in proximity to one and other and you are instantly rooting for them. Despite the undeniable chemistry there are many obstacles in Gina and Mason way keeping them apart, mainly the fact that she is engaged to another man! Once again SJ has written a story that has the perfect balance of humor, romance and super steamy sex scenes! Expect to walk away from this book feeling happy and satisfied and eagerly awaiting the next installment!

Gina and Mason were each other’s first love. Their plan for happily after abruptly ends when Mason breaks her heart. She leaves for her last year of college and doesn’t come back. Ten years later she comes home to help her dad. While the love between them is undeniable, he broke her heart and she can’t forget. Mason wants her back, badly, and has no idea what went wrong. Gina is confused between her “engagement” to Liam, her love for Montana and her love for Mason who she can’t quite forget.“Mason” is a second chance love story. Unlike quite a few of the reviewers, I have never read this author and went in with no expectations. I loved that the point of view (POV) changed between Mason & "G". Honestly, my only big complaint on this book was the drama. My only minor complaint is that the scene in New York I thought wrapped up a little too quickly. You could feel Gina’s love for Mason and he certainly let her know. While I didn’t like all the drama, losing a star, I look forward to seeing what else happens in the family. This is the first book in a family series. Each book is a standalone book. 4/5 stars***Reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock***

Gina Delaney was returning to Montana to sell the family home and take her father back to New York with her. Between the two of them they couldn't keep up with the farm and her dad needed her help. Her life was in New York not Montana. She was worried she would run into her longtime boyfriend, Mason Remington. She had left him behind ten years before when he overheard him tell someone he didn't love her much anymore and he wanted his old girlfriend, April, back. She was crushed and didn't know what to do so she ran. Mason never knew why she left and he had his heart broken and had never got over her. Gina is now engaged to Liam and he runs the art gallery she works for. Mason wants Gina back and he will stop at nothing to win her back. At the same time , Guy who Mason was talking to is trying to split them up. He has always been jealous of Mason and he wants to destroy him. Can Gina and Mason find their way back ten years later? Can Gina save the farm and not have to sell and will she dump Liam? You can find out the answers to these and more questions as you read this book. It is a great read. This book does contain profanity and sex so it isn't for everyone.

I've been a big fan of SJ's Summer Lake series, she's one of a small number of authors on my one-click list. So when I heart she was starting a new series I was really interested to see what she came up with.Mason is a story about second chance love, the blurb probably describes it better than I can, so I won't go into detail(!)Coming off the back off reading some quite emotionally fraught novels it was really fun to go back into the easy writing style SJ has. I love how her characters draw you into their world, I'm really glad that this isn't just restricted to the Summer Lake series, there's a lot to be said for a novel that leaves you with a smile on your face when you finish it, rather than feeling wrung out.I found myself really rooting for Gina and Mason to get their HEA, and also I'm really looking forward to catching up with them during the subsequent novels in the series, particularly Shane! If you're looking for a nice easy read, with engaging characters and storyline then you really can't go wrong here. You also should take a peep at the Summer Lake series, they're a great read too.(Summer Lake fans will notice a familiar face in this novel

I'm gunna kill two birds with one stone here and use the same review for two books. Without realizing that I'd already tried the author, I now find I have two half finished books - that will remain DNF - by this author... and the review will work perfectly for both of them. The H's are ok. Probably never going to end up in anyone's top 10 book boyfriend list, but still fine. The h's... WHINY, IMMATURE, WHINY, IRRITATING, WHINY, BRATS... who whine. Crap, I think I might have forgotten to mention whiny... and immature... and whiny... they're a bit bratty too. And god, how they whine! The plots are the same. The whiny h has trust issues, but all the men in her world rally with the H to prove her wrong. I will probably never know if they succeed. It's such a shame, but I have a whiny/immature limit... and I even pushed well past that limit... and still... just more immature whinging. There is a way to show that your characters have insecurities and fears. Endless immature whining is not it.

I loved all the Summer Lake Books. But I now also lovd The Remingyon Ranch series as well now. Mason is one hot, moody sexy as hell cowboy who knows what he wants. 10 years ago Mason had everything, he was in love with his brothers best friend Gina. He had loved her for years so when she never returned after college he was heartbroken. Gina never wanted to return back home, she was heartbroken by the one man she has always and will always love. But Gina has to return to help her dad with The Ranch, due to his ill health, but it's something she's not looking forward to as she knows who will be there. They bump into each other in town and there are still unanswered questions there and alot of chemistry. Mason wants to know why she never came back and Gina needs to find out the truth about why she really did run. This book as always is brilliant it's full of love, friendship, family, humour, hot Remington brothers and an epic love thats worth fighting for. A must read.

I must admit that I was reluctant to leave Summer Lake and move to Montana, but when SJ McCoy writes, you read. I absolutely loved this book. I quite enjoyed getting to know Gina and Mason as well as the outlying characters like, Al, Cassidy, Shane, Chance, Carter, and Beau. SJ always manages to suck me into whatever she writes and there was no shortage of that with this book. I found myself roaming around with Gina in Yellowstone, watching the stars in the back of a pickup, and riding a horse on a trail with Mason. SJ writes with such imagery and depth that makes me feel like am actually experiencing life with these characters. I cannot wait to see what happens next on Remington Ranch - I have a feeling that Cassidy is going to give Shane a run for his money, and I for one am looking forward to it.

If you want a book that you can't put down then this is the book for you.Brilliant start to what is going to be another fabulous series by a very talented author. After reading SJ McCoy's first series of summer lake I was expecting a great read. I wasn't disappointed. This book is about Mason and Gina. He was her first love and through a series of misunderstandings they went their separate ways only to fall back in love a decade later, (although they were never far from each other's thoughts). Many ups and downs in the road to a happy ever after! Also many new characters which I am already thinking about with the next books, can't wait to get stuck into the next instalment. Congrats SJ, you never disappoint. Xx

Cute storyI enjoyed Mason and Gina. You could tell they had a strong relationship. Because of that I found it strange that Gina wouldn't have confronted Mason about what she heard when they were younger. Instead she went for years ignoring him and thinking she fell in love with someone else when she always loved Mason. Yet, seeing him just once after how many years she has no problem submitting to his delicious kisses. Fear. That's what held her back. I guess I can see that. Overall, great story. Kept me engaged.

A roller coaster of emotions as you learn what tore them apart.A determined man Mason vows that he will have the woman he loves back in his arms, no matter how much she protests. SJ McCoy did not disappoint with this book! I really enjoyed it and loved the description of all of those hot Montana men. I love that she always brings you to the place of the story through her writing. In just a few chapters, you start to feel as if you are a part of that small town and that you've known these characters all your life. I did not want this book to end! I can't wait for Cassidy and Shane's story. I strongly recommend this book and all of her works!

Okay, the Big Misunderstanding was as stupid as I expected, and the heroine an idiot, but at least the two both admitted that they were at fault. And the last third of the book - post reconciliation - was interesting as they try to learn about and adapt to whom they've each become. Not an instant HEA. That raised the book to almost 3 stars.

what kind of immature brat won't tell someone the reason they're breaking up with them? and then keeps it a secret for 10 years? Gina was the most clueless, annoying, and unlikable heroine I've come across in a while.
