Echoes of John Saul! Loved it!This was a great book, great plot, great characters! I would highly recommend it! Johnny the main character, is sweet and wants to help his family and fit in with his peers. He is also a perpetually horny teenager. He gets a job with the neighbor and goes to school with her,LiliLili is strange and goth and hot. She is very different from Johnny 's current girlfriend ,the rich , beautiful Katrina. The story has some really good twists and turns that keep you completely immersed in the story.Ready for the spooky parts? I did mention John Saul so there must be.So ..Lili has a very expensive and dilapidated house that Johnny was hired to fix up but, never go in. You know what that means don't you? He's a teenager and a guy! He is going to go in, but, only because he hears something that must be checked out. Maybe ,there was more going on than the Ravens eye could see.

From the very first page I was dragged in, and I just had to devour this story. The way the story keeps you guessing and how it teases you is wonderful and makes it sooooooooo hard to put down. The ending just made it where I had to jump in to the next book and find out what happens next. Over all an amazing read that everyone should try so you can get sucked into this wonderful world too. Everyone needs to get a copy of this and every other book in the series. Definitely a must have for any readers library. P.S. Make sure you don't have anything else to do for a bit when you pick this up because you will not want to put it down.

MysteriousI love this series so far. I am anxious to read the next book in the series. One of my spirit birds are Ravens, this is totally my world. I try to interpret what ravens are trying to tell me as come across almost daily now. I absolutely love the innocence of the teenage romance and am anxiously awaiting answers.

SuspenseI read this series a while back and I loved theses books. I am doing a re read and I enjoyed this first one even more the second time. (I know I left a review for each book but I did not see them so I will review each one again as I finish) I am a huge fan of P. M Mattern so if she writes a book alone or co-written with her son I will read without a clue of what the storyline is. Always entertaining!!! I also like how P. M Mattern loves her readers. She is a kind, sweet soul who is extremely talented!

Book 1-4 The Forest of Bleeding Trees is a set of 5 books, with book 5 still in progress. I don't normally write a review for a series, usually for each book as I finish them. But this group needs to be written as one. I feel that if I did each book individually, I would give away to much. The Author has done it again! This set of books are right out of todays world and the fantasy world. The two intertwine together wonderfully. I found myself so absorbed in the story, that when I reached the end of the book, I was dissapointed that it ended. I love the characters and how they come from poor and the rich and neither cares. Yet there seems to be a lot of the poor folk dissappering and the really rich seem to be growing bigger. There are secrets all around and as you read on you find out more and more. Some go as far back as hundreds of years.West Virginia is the perfect place for this story. The way the town and its people was discribed is spot on. I could picture the town and the people and how they are. But what are the generations after generations of some of the town people keeping secret? The people that took over the mansion, had and still has me guessing who or what they really are. Every time I think I know them, something changes it. I hope book 5 explains it all. They are desendents of the last owner and are very strange indead. They have certain powers, but not really. They have hudrededs of Ravens for pets and protection, strange. The redneck neighbor boy down the holler from the mansion took on a job at the mansion. Good hard worker, but he can fly, or can he? He finds out that there is a human eating creature locked away in one of the rooms in the masion, or is he being lied to just on spite? And how does a 18 year old manage to be in love with two completly opposite girls and have hot sex with both and still live? Yet all the secrets, all the killings, all the dsisaperances, all the so called creatures, all the towns people, all the undead, are working their way up to something big. And I just can't put my fingure on what it is and why.The writing was superb and steady paced. Even though it jumps around some, I found it very easy to follow. It kept my attention all the way through, nonstop till the end of book4. It is full of suspense, romance, friendship, becoming a man and head of the house, family, Vampires, Wovles or Werewovles?, Ravens and a strange forest garden with trees and red water, boy with black wings? and undead dead. There is enough to keep you wondering who is who or what? This is great for High School and up. I can't wait for book 5 to come out so I can see if I'm right and how many more secrets are in this West Virginia town.

This is a paranormal short story. Book one in The Forest of Bleeding Trees. I recommend this for adults only due to sexual content. This book captured my attention from the start and never let go. Johnny is such simple character that demands so much attention. He is determined to help take care of his family, which makes him so likeable. I am intrigued by his new neighbors and can not wait to read what becomes of them. I am sure there is some major secrets behind those closed doors. And the Raven filled trees are so creepy but I am enthralled by them. I can't wait to read more. When new people move into a small town, everyone is already on alert and the news travels fast. But for some reason Johnny's new neighbors have moved in unnoticed. He is offered a much needed job and he jumps at the chance. He is astonished by all the happenings at the mysterious neighbors property. Including noticing the enticing Lili, does he dare? Johnny needs the money, but he feels there is much more to his new neighbors than they lead on.favorite passages:"During the winter, the town was virtually isolated, and the spring usually brought flash flooding from the Tug River that inundated the lowlands and wash out the roads.""Her words were strung together, as if she was singing a song.""It was the sound of the hundred winged creatures rising into the air simultaneously.""The massive hoard of birds, flying like a single black cyclone, swirled above their heads for a time before seperating and trailing back behind themselves to the forest behind them.""I was thinking it was a damn shame for such a handsome man to be born without testicles.""Any other instructions before I start impressing you with feats of great manliness?""The person with experience is never at the mercy of the person with the argument.""Her smile seemed to shine like a beacon against a dull, colorless world."<3

    P. Mattern is one of my all time favorite paranormal/ fantasy authors. She's absolutely a genius. Her work is brilliant and well crafted. She has the ability to draw you into her books and make you addicted. Forest of Bleeding Trees was a FIVE star read.Johnny is a strong, independent, young man, who is not only in high school, but also strives to take care of his family anyway he possibly can. This Main Character was well developed throughout the story, and one of my favorites, along with Lili. Lili and her family gives Johnny a job at her house, fixing things up. They pay him a generous amount of money, which is well needed to take care of his family. Lili and Johnny soon get close to each other and start actually being friends. Little does Johnny know, Lili isn't “normal.” She's different from others, you can notice all the sign throughout the book, you will find little signs of who she really is, and who Johnny really is. The ending will make you beg P. Mattern for more. It will leave you stunned and speechless, as it did me. I'm super excited to get my hands on Book 2 in this series. P. Mattern is a very talented author, and she's such a sweetheart! I rate this book FIVE stars, although, it should be rated higher. I recommend this to anyone who loves a brilliantly written fantasy story, full of suspense and mystery.

This is a great start to The Forest of Bleeding Trees. This is a quick novella in this serial series. You can have it read in under an hour. I will be starting the next book as soon as I am done with this review. This book has left me with so many questions. I'm not quiet sure what is going on yet, but I'm sure it's pretty big and I can't wait to find out. There is a lot of mystery right now, and that has grabbed and kept my attention, which is a good thing. Johnny Treadwell is a senior in high school. He is the oldest boy, so he is the man of the house. He helps his older sister, Tess, take care of their two younger brothers. Their mom works very long hours, so it's up to them. When a new girl comes into town, and hires him to help re-do her families house, things get a little weird. First the Ravens, then the room in the house. Things aren't what they seem, that's for sure.I can't wait to read more and find out what is going on.

*I received this book in exchange of an honest review*Wow! Just wow!!!! Very well written with a mystical tension underlaying at all time, captivating characters, a steady while upbeat flow and a very creative/interesting story, i wasn't able to put it down!!!!! With a very good "Hitchcock meets The Witches of Eastwick" vibe this book will enthrall you from the beginning!!!! The sexy end but shocking cliffhanger will leave you strung up and wanting more!!!! Despite the thorough paranormal concept, socio-psychological notions impersonated by all the characters will allow you to identify with them, and understand the emotional baggage within them!!! All those different layers make "The Hunter" book one of the series "The Forrest of Bleeding Trees" an addictive, emotional, gut crunching, nail biting, amazing read, but more importantly a very promising start to what appears to be a fantastic literary adventure!!!! I can't wait to read what happens next....

I've not read a paranormal series I could get into in a long time.Johnny finds work after his family is struggling and finds himself in a strange romantic situation with Lili. There is more than any one is saying with his neighbors. The ravens in the trees are so creepy they have to lead to something stranger than normal. The town experiences mysterious disappearances and the coming of strangers too.I loved the growing relationship of Johnny and Lili and all the great moments they shared. I can only hope that the next book will allow the reader to devour it as well. I only found the vampire bit predictable but enjoyed the story. The Forest of Bleeding Trees: Part 1: The Hunter

I enjoyed this story, which tells of Johnny Treadwell, a boy whose family is poor in the backwoods of West Virginia, when Johnny is hired to do work at the Macluster place his world is turned upside down. I think this story could really be good and this was only the first part. I had a little bit of confusion when johnny seems to be changing and I wasn't sure of what caused that. Although he did have an interesting bout with some ravens, who knows I might just have to wait for part two to find out. This book is definitely not for young adult readers so beware of that.

Strange things are happening to a small town poor family's son named Johnny. He meets the new girl at school, the one that bought the old mansion through the woods. He is offered a job, being poor he takes it. Every day it is some thing different that is changing and Johnny has no idea what is going on. Prom night, there is a full moon while with the only girl he has cared about, Katrina, even stranger things happen. End of book, I need to find second part.
