Re the Other movie, I understand also supposed to be a classic, Pompous Muriel and her Utterly Dreary Sister.I have no idea if the scene in which Muriel confesses that she has been a practictioner of the art of onanism since she was a small girl is supposed to be moving. In practice it is hilarious. All the sex is. Where she decides to lose her virginity to Claude (honestly, what WAS she thinking of), I can't imagine how she had the strength to walk out afterwards, the bed was just covered in her blood.Still, there it is. The Confession. As it happens I was listing this book the next day...Teasley, D.O Where Do They Come From?: A book for children, explaining in simple, modest words the mystery of the origin of life and the sacredness of procreation. An American publication of WWI vintage. It was thus inscribed on the front free endpaper ‘Presented to my boy Martin on his thirteenth birthday with the sincere wish that God by his grace may guard him against secret sins that harm both body and soul. From his father October 17th 1919’. There is a little pencil underlining, mostly in sections concerned with ‘this vile practice of abusing the private parts of your body’.If only Muriel's mother had been a more responsible person and given her this tome early in life. Or prevented her from sleeping with little girls who were so practised in the arts of touching oneself up.--------------Let's all join hands and run around in a circle chanting:Verse one:Truffaut is a wanker, Truffaut is a wanker.Verse two:Jim and Jules are wankers. Jim and Jules are wankers. Catherine is one too-oo, Catherine's one too.Verse three re Muriel and Anne: The girls and Claude are wankers. The girls and Claude are wankers*.Chorus: As for Roche. Geez. Numero uno wanker.End.* I'm sorry, this is a bit of a spoiler since Muriel is oh so literally a wanker, having spent nights in bed at the age of 8 with another 8 year old girl naked and lasciviously discovering the joys of masturbation. She suffers the entire film for it, but why oh why should we?The more I think about it, the more respect I have for Russ Meyer. http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/... More big-breasted women in sticky situations fighting their way out. Pl-eeasssee.

I read this for my french film class back in 2004 as a companion to the film. I had never read a "script" so to speak, along with a film, but I'd have to say it was pretty interesting to read the dialogue along with the director's um, directions.

I have convinced myself that reading books in French will help me learn French. Hmm.
