This review was originally posted on my blog, Darkest Sins. The Reign Walk is over and—although it didn't go as expected for our heroine—Maggie is with the Riders, so how could things possibly get worse? One thing the world of Palet taught us is that safety is overrated and nightmares are always on the horizon...It's never only black or white in Palet, there's not a simple way to discern between good and bad, and you may very well struggle to just love or hate a character. It's with this inner battle that you keep turning page after page, and it's with passion and excitement that you ask yourself: who the bloody hell is the real villain? I dare you to stick with one answer through the end. Same challenge applies to the beautiful duo: the King or the Rebel? I know the majority is with Lucan, but I believe this instalment gives the readers the chance to see Cirrus under a different light—oh boy!—and perhaps helps Maggie to clear some of her own doubts... Can she do that before the mission she's on goes too far?Darker than the first instalment, this book makes for a wonderful read also thanks to Jules Hedger's writing, which is kind of poetic and quite unique. I'm in love with the fantasy world she has created, the characters she has portrayed and the mystery and unexpected turn of events you can be sure to find every time. After the last chapter, I can barely stand to know what's next!

OMG!!! I've been dying to read this story, and I'll be eternally grateful to Jules Hedger not only for providing me with a copy, but also for creating such a fantastic world. You, my dear, are the true Painter! All the feels, people, ALL DA FEELS! I have to say that I feel like this was a completely different book. In a good way, of course. I feel like Maggie has kinda grown as a character, the story is deeper and scarier, and there is so much sexual tension in the air that one doesn't know where to look anymore.I had to read the story in two sittings because I had other things that required my urgent attention, but being separated from the enticing world that Hedger has created has been a real struggle. And what about the chemistry between the characters? Shall we discuss that now? Everybody knows I'm Team Lucan, but man... Even I have to admit that Cirrus and his ways... Well, they succeeded in making my heart quiver. More than once. Sometimes you need an animal, but sometimes a gentleman is what it's needed, so there you go... Torn between two men, just like Maggie. The arrival of General Hoyt made things more complicated for the Daughter of Palet, and we are greeted with a very important dilemma: Where do all loyalties lie? And who is to truly trust? The cliffhanger at the end perfectly executes its job, and all we are left with is the hope that book #3 will come very soon.
