3.5 Star Ménage m/m lovers who enjoy space operas, this is the story for you. For those who enjoyed the cowboy antics of Captain Mal from Serenity and liked Inara the expensive escort, Jake and Rill will feel familiar. Jake is a captain of a space ship he won in a card game. He's rough around the edges and blurs the lines between law abiding citizen and criminal. His partner is Rill. Rill is the lover he lured from a very expensive whore house. Rill's childhood is complicated because he is a designer baby - a Nova. Nova are perfect in body and mind. As a prostitute, they are unparalleled in skill, looks and cost. These two unlikely partners take on a job which is a bit more than they can handle. Lian is an alien "gem" baby. He's a rich boy who has never had to suffer in his life. When his surprise visit to a cousin is cut short, he desperately tries to make it home to deliver life threatening news. Lian basically throws himself at Jake and Rill's mercy to take him back to his homeworld. This is where the fun begins.Ms. Davitt creates a world of intrigue, clear socio-class distinctions and sexy hawt men. The plot of this story keeps a reader in constant flight mode. This because the threesome are trying to outrun someone who has better technology and a reason to kill them. There is a definite end game for the three and time is running out. The technology used in this story is pretty nifty. The embedded interface into a body so that it can provide instant information is something quite popular. Perhaps within the next thirty years, there will be a bio interface of this sort. The real attraction to this book is the interaction between these three males. Jake and Rill are sexy hawtness together. Jake is the rough guy. Rill adds the smooth experience. When Lian joins this dynamic duo, it takes it to another level. Mostly, because Lian is a sweet virgin. Every old experience for Jake and Rill become new again when they initiate innocent Lian into the art of manlove. Now, there is more than just sex in this story since the sex is a small part. As the three learn more about each other, Ms. Davitt shows how each of their strengths compliment the other. It's a sweet romance despite the impending doom. The conflict which these three work together to resolve helps binds them closer together. This seems to be just the beginning of their journey together. One can only hope Ms. Davitt will return to this world with another adventure with these three troublemakers. M/m romance recommended for space opera addicts. *provided by NetGalley

The blurb sounded good for this one, and I do like Jane Davitt stories even if they're not chock full of sex, which this one certainly wasn't. It did drag a little in the middle though which is why I'm only giving it 3.5 stars. It's definitely a tale of betrayal, murder, treachery and deceit, oh and let's not forget greed!! Up front and centre stars Lian Paradine, an earnest, honest and studious young man, member of a fabulously wealthy mining family who have fingers in all sorts of pies, and who when the story opens, is stranded on the planet of Amabale, trying desperately to get to his home world of Crestal to deliver some devastating news, oh and outrun his nasty cousin Palan, who has killed his own brother Dixon in order to claim the credit for a new discovery of kharite, and is now on Lian's trail because he knows about the murder. None of the spaceship pilots he approaches are interested in steering their ship through the meteor shower which is currently besieging the planet BUT along comes the drunken captain of the Mama Rose, one Jake Slant, who is only interested in how many credits he can wheedle out of poor Lian because, you know, it will be a dangerous mission hopping from one piece of space rock to another. He takes Lian back to the ship and introduces Rill, who is a Nova (a genetically engineered being), Jake's no 2, and his f**k buddy to boot. As they begin to play a dangerous game of cat and mouse with Palan hot on their heels, the only thing they can do between timed jumps is find out more about each other and of course the established pair discover that Lian is a virgin. His self esteem is so low as to be almost nonexistent, and he cannot understand for the life of him why Jake and Rill would be interested in someone like him, but he is sweet and Rill is drawn to sweet innocent guys...and Jake, for all of his grumbling, is not completely unaffected either. I'll leave you to discover what happens with Palan and whether they do reach Crestal and are welcomed with open arms.ARC kindly provided by Riptide via Netgalley, and 20% of all proceeds go to the 'It Gets Better' project.

Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for the review copy of this book.I had not read anything by this author before, but the blurb sounded pretty good, so I figured, why not. I really enjoyed it.Lucky Strike is mainly about Lian, a young man from a very wealthy family, finding his inner strength in conquering adversity and finding and keeping love. Jake and Rill are an established couple and are quite happy with one another. But they learn that there is room for one more in their hearts and they learn to trust each other to stick around. So, in a way, Lian is the one that really cements their relationship. The story itself is a bit of a sci-fi adventure. Lian is on the run and terrified and he must get back home yesterday to give his family information that can't be sent electronically without risk of tampering. One itsy bitsy problem, though. In order to start home now, whoever takes him has to go through a meteor shower. Not an easy thing to do. Though there is not much sex in the book (really only 1.5 sex scenes), the story was good enough that I didn't mind. I would have preferred a couple more scenes, especially at the end, though. Maybe that's just me.

This sci-fi menage M/M/M adventure/thriller follows the uber-wealthy Lian Paradine on his flight to warn his family on Crestal that his cousin Palan is a murderer. Problem is, Lian his no ship and he's desperate to return to his home world before Palan can silence him, just as he'd killed his own brother. Jake Slade is an impetuous transport captain. He ferries cargo and people all over the galaxy aboard the Mama Rose and only cares to keep his lover and shipmate, Rill, happy. Rill is a Nova, a genetically-bred humanoid who (as most Nova have) has been a sex worker. He's beautiful, captivating, even, and Jake has had his hands full keeping Rill from the unwelcome advances of men and women, alike. They are a solid couple, who don't mind extra bedmates from time-to-time. Lian is so youthful and innocent, Rill is attracted to him and convinces Jake to take him on as a passenger. The big problem? Traveling to Crestal in the short time window before Palan arrives will put the Mama Rose into the heart of a meteor shower. Lian has the skill to navigate through the meteor shower, but he lacks the finesse to be a skillful third in Jake and Rill's bed...at first. This was an interesting sci-fi thriller. I really didn't see all the twists coming. Palan, naturally, follows the Mama Rose and the showdown is more touch-than-go. Just when we think Lian, Jake and Rill will make it to Crestal unharmed, well, the whole scheme gets blown sky-high.And Lian's family isn't so sure Palan did anything wrong. Nope, it looks quite a lot like LIAN has some serious 'splainin' to do.Good chemistry, good heat, and interesting characters really brought this one to life, for me. I enjoyed the sci-fi elements, and how each character brought more than his own desires to the table. Each man felt incredibly different, and increasingly likable. I received a copy of this book via NetGalley. This is my honest review.

You don't see many SF/space opera stories in the MM genre so that in itself was interesting and fresh, but add to that fast-paced action, an emerging poly relationship and interesting characters, each of them flawed in his unique way, and you get a great, engaging read that will keep you up until you finish it.

3.5 stars.I love this author and I love space fiction, so I expected this book to rock. Jane Davitt is also the author who hooked me on M/M/M stories with her Room at the Top...it was the first menage book I've read where the idea of three people together was believable, and the triangle just worked. Lucky Strike was disappointing in that regard.I think the problem was because Lian came into equation when Jake&Rill were a couple for years already. Lian was also a scion of crazy rich family, pampered and protected..he is young, naive, vulnerable, inexperienced. He is so different from both Jake and Rill, I just can't see how they fit together. The chemistry was weak, the word 'love' was uttered too soon, and overall, the whole relationship seemed unconvincing and I just can't believe in the HEA.The rushed ending didn't help matters..I would have liked to get more development on the relationship, not just a couple of weeks together. Not only I had problems with the Lian/Jake/Rill, but also with Jake and Rill as a couple. They are together for 6 years, and still don't completely trust each other.. They had frictions throughout the book that made me doubt their devotion to each other. I really wish there was a sequel. The HFN ending didn't make me happy. On the plus side, the world-building is very, very good. Solid, intriguing...I was more interested in knowing about the family and the planet and the tektan system than in the guys.Overall, an enjoyable read, if not my favorite by the author.**ARC was provided by Riptide Publishing via Netgalley.**

3/5Going into a new book always holds so much promise. There’s some element of surprise to be had, but after reading hundreds of books, the feel for what’s to come and the pattern of certain books becomes familiar. Like a song you can hum along to upon first hearing a few bars. This book had a tune that I’ve come to enjoy. The sci-fi outer space expedition and falling in love adventure. Always nice. Given how much I enjoy that style of m/m story, or in this case m/m/m, I was a tad disappointed at this one. I have no idea when they fell in love. They were annoyed with each other the entire time but kept saying there was love. A couple mostly awkward love scenes and some mildly anti-climactic adventure scenes with a strange twist that also resolved itself surprisingly fast all left me both bored and with whiplash. This books just didn’t come together seamlessly, like a recipe with all the right ingredients that tastes meh. This book was a small step above that. Definitely some Good Effort Stars.

Review can be read at It's About The BookJake Slant, Captain of the Mama Rose, encounters Lian Paradine on his way back from a night out drinking after hearing the naive young man trying to procure passage to the planet Crestel from another captain. When the other captain refuses to take Lian through the impending Sentar meteor shower despite money being no object, Jake drukenly steps in and agrees to take Lian for a sizeable fee. Jake may be gruff and badass, but at heart he is a good man and knows that leaving Lian there will not end well for the increasingly desperate-sounding wealthy Crestel native. Intending to lift off the following morning, Jake takes Lian back to the ship and Jake’s first mate and lover, Rill.Rill is a nova, a genetically engineered human conceived in a lab to a client’s specific requirements. Designed to be physically perfect specimens, the majority of novas end up as pleasure workers in the sex industry. When his original buyer never collected him, Rill was sold off to a family who then on sold him into an underground child sex agency. Rill was working in an adult whorehouse when Jake met him, after having been released by his last owner when Rill became too old for the man’s tastes. Despite his horrid childhood, Rill has long since dealt with his past by the time of this story, although there are, of course, some remnant effects in his wariness of strangers and attitudes towards sex. That initial wariness Rill has of Lian quickly vanishes as the sweet young man somehow bypasses all of his barriers. And it isn’t only Rill’s defences that Lian gets under. The Paradines are the mega wealthy family that discovered the fuel that enabled current forms of space travel, amongst other technologies. Even though Lian grew up in wealth and privilege, his caring and considerate nature make him easy to love. Although reluctant to divulge his reasons for his haste to get home at first, Jake and Rill insist on the disclosure before heading anywhere. The betrayal that ended in Lian’s cousin’s death, and Lian’s discovery of it, catches all three men in a run for their lives as the murderer pursues them through the Sentar shower. Hopping from meteor to meteor in a twisted game of cat and mouse, the three men in the Mama Rose nevertheless find themselves drawn together. Lian’s innate sweetness and his ability to see straight to the hearts of the two men endear him to both of them. Jake and Rill’s relationship is strong, but when they meet Lian they find a space between them the exact shape and size of Lian, like he always belonged there. Of course, it’s not all as plain sailing as that, as they are forced to deal with the murderer intent on killing them and the rapidly developing feelings between the three of them.Lucky Strike was a fun, sexy, fast-paced page turner with three very likeable characters that were all well developed and nuanced. The writing was excellent and the story interesting. However, the story felt like it was just a touch underdeveloped to me. All the elements were there, but I was left feeling like each of them was slightly truncated. I would have liked to see more development in the relationship of the three MCs as well as know more about Lian’s family and the consequences of his return to Crestal. I did really enjoy how their personalities were starting to fit together with Jake’s strength, Lian’s sweetness and Rill’s sensible practicality. They each temper and strengthen the others and I liked how Jake and Rill bring Lian into their existing relationship. It felt organic, even with the short time frame the story took place in. It wasn’t all instantly easy, each of them had their doubts and insecurities as they tried to adjust to the new dynamics.

Those looking for an erotic thrill ride will get just that and more in this tale of emotional discoveries, both good and bad. For two carefree space pilots their lives are changed dramatically when a rich and mysterious young man pleads for transportation to his home planet. The three of them form an unexpected bond that may be over before it starts when a bitter man close to the mystery man sets out to destroy all of them in a battle for wealth and power that ends in an exciting and danger-filled conclusion.Lian comes from a rich family where he's always been sheltered and protected. It's left him naive and untried in many ways. He believes the best of everyone and everything until his rose-colored glasses are ripped off by someone close to him which leaves him running for his life. Though this at first terrifies him he soon finds this test of his inner strength exciting and worth more than all the money his family has. Being with Rill and Jake is also exciting and is a sensual experience he won't soon forget as it fuels his ego and gives him a sense of power he's never had before. Lian is a sweet man just starting to experience real life after being cosseted for so long. Being with these men makes him feel a true and important part of a group and it was heartwarming seeing him mature as the story progressed.Rill is a nova, a super sexy man created and enhanced genetically to look perfect in every way and forced into being a sex worker. It's left him a bit heartless and good at hiding his real feelings. He left with Jake willingly from the whorehouse and though they seem very different in their personalities they're perfect together. Rill is very tough on the outside, exuding power and blinding others with his beauty, and protects Jake from being taken advantage of. I loved Rill's sexy talk and his playful nature when it's least expected. I was intrigued by his past and would love to see that expanded upon in its own story.Jake gives the impression of being tough but is kindhearted and is a champion of the underdog. He enjoys protecting others and finds himself drawn to Lian's insecurities. When all of them bond in a moment where they believe they have nothing to lose he finds their triad truly compatible as each brings something needed by the others in the group. While Jake appears strong in every other way he has his own insecurities when it comes to Rill. He's not the most handsome of men and can't understand why Rill stays with him as he'll never be rich either which is important to the Nova. I enjoyed the witty banter between these men as it teemed with sexual tension and always resulted in a steamy conclusion. This was an exciting story with a good premise that was a bit hampered by a middle section that dragged on too long. Lian too was a disappointment early on as his naïveté led to some very poor and dumb choices. He was my least favorite character and it wasn't until he joined with Rill and Jake that he became more interesting. This was a story where we got POVs from each character which gave good insight into their inner emotions and made their connection more believable. The sexual interludes were steamy while retaining the playfulness underlying their relationships and were nicely spaced within the story. At the start of each chapter was a news-bite giving an enticing glimpse into this sci-fi world that I wish had led to more vivid world-building too. All-in-all this was a fun read, and my first from this author, and I look forward to reading more of Ms. Davitt's works as this story kept me relentlessly turning the pages in anticipation.

I really enjoyed this intriguing sci-fi with a trio of hot men at it’s heart. Unlike some mixes of genre and romance, this was pretty well-balanced between the sci-fi plot and the relationship between these three guys, meaning that nothing felt tacked on or dominated too much. I found the setting really fascinating, with the idea of Crestal and its valuable mining deposits, the concept and legalities of the Lucky Strike shares and the techtat that linked Lian right into an information hub at all times. Then there’s Rill and his origins, but of all the men I think Jake was my favourite.Jake was the strong man of the three, the one who works for a living, doesn’t mind getting dirty and has made something out of his humble roots. Not that Rill doesn’t work hard, but as a designer-baby (or Nova), he is unbelievably beautiful and has been used for – and made use of – his perfect good looks all his life. Except that he and Jake love each other. Jake gives him somewhere safe to be, where no one can demand anything he doesn’t want to give, and in return Rill stays with Jake because he wants to. Then along comes Lian, the clumsy rich kid who is always sweet and eager to please, but doesn’t think too highly of himself and has stumbled into a serious situation.I’ll admit, at first I found the switch between Jake and Rill’s aggression towards Lian to being highly protective of him a bit of a stretch. I believed it of Jake, since he’s the kind of guy who rescues lost puppies, but I didn’t quite buy it from Rill. I could believe that Rill found him a challenge, and hard to dislike, but his feelings towards Lian seem to deepen a bit too fast for me. Lian is so innocent and Rill so cynical – then again, Lian prefers Jake, so maybe it is all down to the challenge all along. However, as the story progressed, it was easy to see why they continued to feel the way they did towards each other. The plot around why Lian has to get home, and why he’s willing to risk so much for it, was nicely handled. As was the method in which they plan to achieve it. Although, I did think that side of the story petered out towards the end. Certain things happen, and then go away without much fuss. I would have liked to have seen a little bit more of the fallout involved, but by then the plot is more focused on the romance – which is fair enough, since it had been a bit neglected by all the exciting stuff going on.One thing I did really like about that three-way romance is the sense of imbalance and confusion they all felt. Jake’s so scared Rill will leave him, while Rill feels kind of left-out, and Lian is convinced they don’t really want him. The emotion isn’t drawn out to torturous lengths, but I did appreciate that they didn’t fall into their triad too easily, especially since the sex was pretty clumsy (intentionally written that way, not badly written). In all this is an enjoyable read, mixing an interesting tale with a nice romance. The little intro-snippets at the beginning of each chapter really added a sense of history to this universe, and I loved the whole Leap Day/Week/Leapster concept. With three well-written characters, a well developed universe and a triad that really works, I’ll definitely be looking out for more from this author.(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)

Lucky Strike is a very engaging Sci Fi romance. Jake is the owner of Mama Rose, a ship he uses and operates together with his partner and lover Rill, transporting people to different planets or hosting small parties around the system. We don’t know the year when all this takes place, but it's not anywhere close to Earth and is so technologically advanced, that we can assume it is far into the future.Jake was a very likable character, he tried to come off as a bad ass but deep down he was an amazing man with a big heart. He is very devoted to his lover, Rill, would do anything for him at anytime, and his pleasure in life is to spoil Rill whenever he affords it. His relationship with Rill began years ago, but I love how strong they are together, they truly are a great couple. Rill is a nova, a person genetically engineered in a lab, produced to client specifications using donated ova and sperm. Novas are extremely beautiful, flawless and often used as sexual workers. That was the fate of Rill for many years, working as a whore, until he met Jake, who took him along on his ship. Rill appreciates the fact that Jake sees more than just his beauty, Jake is able to see the person within and loves him just the way he is. Rill is very secure of Jake and their relationship, he knows he belongs to Jake and that Jake is his, and he's aware and annoyed of Jake's insecurities. Jake is certain there will be a day when Rill with tire of him and the life he has to offer, and will leave him for someone that can pamper him and offer him the riches he craves. He just doesn't understand how devoted Rill is to him, how much he appreciates him and loves him. When Jake meets Lian, a Paradine who needs to get to Crestal as soon as possible, he offers to take him. But once him and Rill find out exactly why Lian is so desperate to get home, they find themselves in danger, and not only from the ice and rock shower they have to fly through. Lian has discovered some secrets that nobody was supposed to know and now the three of them are hunted by Lian's ruthless cousin, who wants to silence them forever.Rill and Jake are attracted to Lian and his innocence. The three of them give into their attraction and enjoy what they believe to be their only sexual encounter before a certain death. But soon they develop feelings for one another and realize they're happier together.I recommend this book to anyone who loves an action packed adventure in another galaxy complete with some sarcastic but kind characters who are not afraid to love with all their hearts.*** ARC provided by the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

4 star review by DanWhen Jake heads back to his spaceship from a long night of excessive drinking in a spaceport dive, the last thing he is looking for is a confrontation with another Ship’s Captain who he has had issues with in the past. Although he prefers men in his bed, she connived her way into his bed once and he woke up with a score of 6 out of 10 written on his butt cheeks. Bitch! She is arguing with a young man who seems desperate for a spaceship to take him home to the luxury planet Crestal. She refuses because of a large meteor storm which will be passing by the planet for the next few days.Jake jumps in to spite her, and before he knows it he has agreed to carry the man, Lian, home. The man insists they leave that very night, so Jake takes him back to his ship, where he introduces him to Rill, his first mate (and the only other crew member besides Jake, as well as his lover.)What ensues is a mad dash through the meteor shower, with Jake and Rill learning the truth behind Lian’s mad dash across known space to get home. Will they survive the meteor shower? Will they escape from the bad guy who shows up with his own spaceship looking for Lian? Is there room for a third in Jake and Rill’s relationship? You’ll have to read the book to find out how their story plays out.I really liked this book. I hadn’t picked up a sci-fi book in quite a while, even though I grew up reading only sci-fi and fantasy. I’m so glad I did. This book has whetted my appetite for more. Speaking of more….I sure hope Ms. Davitt has another book planned for these 3, because I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting to know what happens next! I recommend this book. A Joyfully Jay review. 4.25 starsI’ve been a fan of Jane Davitt for some time and with Lucky Strike, she’s provided another solid, enjoyable novel. The plot is well paced and offers some intriguing world building, while the main characters are genuine and engaging. Though privileged and possessed of an almost limitless amount of knowledge, Lian reads as a man, weighted by tragedy, lost and desperately out of his depth when he meets Jake and Rill. He is quick and clever, but he lacks a measure of practical experience in the real world. The rakish Jake and his genetically altered lover Rill are the kind of couple you can’t help but adore. Theirs is a comfortable yet passionate relationship, the product of two men who understand one another even more completely than they probably realize. They eventually come to embrace Lian and though their sexual encounters with him often form during some rather absurd situations, the overall evolution of the relationship feels natural.Read Sue’s review in its entirety here.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley in return for an honest review.Genre Sci-fi / Male/Male/Male MenageMC1 Jake SladeMC2 RillMC3 Lian ParadineStorylineLian needs to get to his home planet, Crestal in time for Leap festivities & hires reluctant space pilot Jake & his ship to get him there. Once the travelers are on the way, Lian reveals the reason he's in such a huge hurry is that he witnessed a murder & has to get home to let his family know. ConflictFirst, the crew has to navigate a meteor shower. Then Lian's murderous cousin is chasing them through the said shower so they have to evade him as well. Once they get to Crestal, Lian has to prove that his cousin was the murderer and not Lian.My ThoughtsI really would have liked more backstory for Jake & Rill. The book starts with them as an established couple, but gives no background information on how they became one. There are some details given about Rill's life before he met Jake, but only after he's talking about his past with Lian.

Not the best of Davitt's works, and not as enjoyable either, but I did eventually get to like the story and its three MCs. Wished though that I'd gotten a better feel for our MCs and their relationship. At the end, I felt there still was a barrier between them and they weren't a truly solidified triad. I would definitely be interested in seeing the story continue, as these three still have a lot of hurdles to overcome, and I'd love to see if they finally manage to cross over into a true meshing of souls and hearts.
