My first foray into the world of Poe was as an 11 year old reading "The Tell Tale Heart". I scared me silly! The nameless man and his lantern sneaking into the old man's bedroom to stare at his eye...creepy!! That story and made me a lifelong fan of Poe. The imagery and darkness of his tales and poems never fail to send creepy crawlies up my spine as it did at my very first reading. His tales are dark and disturbing, but also hauntingly beautiful in their expressiveness. Reading it as a child, I missed the nuances of the stories, the underlying messages of the fragility of humankind and the weakness we battle daily. I always have a copy of this book on my e-reader and will randomly read a story just because. I am happy to say that I have shared my love of Poe's work with my children who, I hope, will one day pass it on to their own kids. If you haven't read any of the works of Edgar Allen Poe, I urge you to do so as soon as possible. You will not regret it!

He's one of my favorite authors! He pored so much emotion into his stories and poems. The dark subject matter reflected much of his troubled and hard life. His writings were an amazing mix of passion and the surreal. He's the original Goth writer! My favorite work of his is 'Annabel Lee'! <3 It's hauntingly beautiful words and emotions in it really speak to me. It's a beautiful tragedy, but one I read over and over again! Everything I've read by him is sooo good. Everyone should at least try reading some of his work! You won't regret it!

In honor of Halloween I watched a documentary on Poe. What a sad, tragic and short life he lived. Reading the Works of Edgar Allen Poe seems most appropriate on this rainy, gray, cold Halloween day.Mary

Some readers were okay. Some were only fair. However, this volume is missing The Cask of Amondillado and that's greatly disappointing. These anthologies need to list all the stories and poems.

If you're into dark poetry and short stories, this is a wonderful book. We read quite a few short stories by Edgar Allen Poe in high school. I intend to buy it for my collection.
