Aubrey King, the legendary god of alternative rock music has requested to meet with journalist and writer Bryan about penning the star’s memoir. Aubrey and his dark, angsty songs are the reason Bryan was inspired to become a leading rock journalist. His obsession for his career has alienated the women in his life, but Bryan doesn’t care. What really matters to him is the music.Aubrey King has been out of the music scene for almost ten years—ever since his alternative rock band, Falling in Stereo, broke up. Questions about his sexual preferences have always surrounded him, and now that he’s ready to make a solo comeback, he wants to tell his story, his way. He’s followed journalist Bryan Gallagher’s career for a while and believes that Bryan’s obvious passion for music mirrors his own. He loves his writing style, but is also enraptured by the boyishly handsome writer.Bryan finds pushing his fanboy nervousness aside is difficult when Aubrey finally stands before Brian. He’s amazed at how little Aubrey has changed—his intense gaze, his unique style and his still youthful looks epitomise the star he’s always been. But Aubrey’s vulnerability when he sings and shares the deeply personal lyrics of a new song triggers something in Bryan that he never knew was there. The need to give himself to Aubrey, to let the rock god do to him what he’s never before desired a man to do....

*** 3.5 Stars ***Not incredibly realistic, but this little morsel was both sexy and sweet. The writing and characters were 4 stars for me, but because this wasn't a full story, I can't give it full marks. It has done its job, however, and I'm already making grabby hands at Rockin’ it Forever.

While I'm not opposed to instant attraction in romances nor the whole gay-for-you theme in particular. But the two together was rather… off. Aubrey King, a famous rock star who disappeared a decade ago, was ready to make his come back in the music world. To mark the special occasion, he planned to release a biography and insisted on well known rock writer Bryan Gallagher to do so. Bryan, himself, was a huge fan of Aubrey's and was willing to do whatever it took to get the job. The two meet for the first time at a coffee shop and bond quickly over their passion for music. More importantly, it was the all consumming role music itself played in their lives. That Aubrey was gay was like an unspoken fact that everyone knew, but no one voiced. Bryan, on the other hand, was straight, but found himself instantly attracted to Aubrey. That alone was very awkward to read already. But coupled with Aubrey's constant teasing and probing, it just felt wrong somehow. Kind of like Bryan only went along with it because he was dead set on writing Aubrey's biography himself. Despite Aubrey's assurances that the job was his regardless of everything else that went on between them. The only thing that made the story passible for me though, was the influence and role of music in the two's lives. I could easily believe the attraction and respect they have for one another if not for the uneven power dynamic. And the fact that Bryan was supposed to be straight. That just didn't work for me. Maybe if the story had been longer and the two had more time to actually get to know each other better and everything developed slower, it would have been much less awkward.

Short, Sexy and Steamy.. my three favorite colors! Aubrey King is an aging rocker that is in a place in his life where he longs to be loved. His problem is he is always drawn to the emotionally unavailable single men. The fact that he is gay really isn't a secret, he's never admitted it, but not exactly hidden it either. His adoring fans choose to believe he's bisexual. Gearing up for a comeback he's ready to publish his memoir as well, and he chooses one of those sinfully sexy straight men to pen the book. After their initial meeting, Aubrey takes Bryan back to his studio for lunch and lyrics. And to discover if he is really straight... or perhaps, hopefully, god willing, a little bit curious. Bryan Gallagher has been a fan of Aubrey's music since he was a teenager, going into music journalism solely because of his love of Aubrey's music. He too has been lonely in the love department, never able to fully commit to that one, perfect woman. Perhaps because he was really waiting for that one perfect man? I digress. Given the opportunity to write a tell all at the hands of the man himself, Bryan jumps at the chance. He's always known that Aubrey is gay, what shocks him is his own gutteral reaction to the sexy, older rocker. All the passion, sensuality and tenderness that Aubrey fills his songs with are a constant of his personality. But is Bryan truly ready to open himself up sexually with another man? Sparks fly with these two immediately, though Bryan is shy and reserved. Aubrey takes the lead and coaches the younger man tenderly to his bed, and then blows his mind. While Aubrey lays in wait for Bryan to reject him and run as soon as the heat of the moment fades, like they all do. Bryan has to dig deep and decide if this is just a case of curiousity or something more, something real, something they can both hold on to.I love the way Knight moves around the male body, her love scenes are truly a thing of beauty. There is passion, tenderness, sensuality and vulnerability. And where as you think Bryan is the vulnerable one in this story, when it's all laid on the line, Aubrey is probably more so. It's an insta love story, but there is a two souls finding each other aspect to it as well. They seriously just seemed to fit. If you're looking for something short and spicy then this little morsel with definitely fit the bill!

Reviewer: WendyGenre: M/M Contemporary4 HeartsSee Review Here: Hearts On Fire ReviewsFacebook link: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Hearts...Review:Prepare to go from zero to sexed up and steamy in record time with this delicious morsel. Normally, I’d say it would be near impossible to throw together two guys in a scenario involving one gay and one supposedly straight with a fourteen year age gap and come out the other side with a believable gay-for-you romance in about fifty pages. Magically, this author managed to do just that! The two things that really make this work so that it doesn’t feel like a shallow insta-love connection are the soul deep bond Aubrey and Bryan share with music and the fact that each followed the other’s career before they ever met in person. As a result, it’s almost as if they’ve been friends for a while and have just started navigating the sexual aspect of their relationship.Aubrey had a number of facets to his character that made for an interesting dichotomy. He was extremely confident and yet endearingly vulnerable at the same time. But the one thing that was really puzzling was the fact the he wanted someone that could become a permanent addition to his life – a true partner and not just a quick hookup. This was puzzling from the perspective that he almost exclusively chased after straight guys and then wondered why his heart was broken when the post-orgasmic high was gone and they realized what they’d done.Bryan could have easily followed the same pattern as all the previous men in Aubrey’s life – except he stayed. Even after Aubrey’s rather forward and relentless pushing to get Bryan into bed, he didn’t freak out afterwards (okay, just a little, but he quickly recognized other things were more important), and hot damn, that was the best sex of his life. Yeah, I really enjoyed watching Aubrey make sure it was good for Bryan. Let’s say he was very enthusiastic about achieving his goal! This was a short but sexy ride. It’s more HFN than HEA, but still very satisfying and definitely worth the time to read!

Rockin the alternative is interesting for a short book. Lemme explain, the attraction a bit too fast but the fact that Bryan was a massive fanboy made it less of an Instalove…. Scratch that, the book makes me wonder if it’s all lust or love. Emotions were thrown in pretty quickly, but the author managed to pull off a subtle character arc for Aubrey and Bryan. Also, Damn Aubrey need to chill a bit on the seduction, He was on the prowl and all I could think was ‘subtlety thou art a lost cause’ PS: loved the thong!Personally, I’m not very comfortable with explicit sex scenes unless I can see a strong emotional connection between the two men, and while I couldn’t call what they have a strong emotional connection per se, There was tension, emotional conflicts, nervousness, and hesitation. That made it more real and less like an Instalust or a groupie sex thingy.Another thing I loved was the vulnerability in Aubrey, it made him seem more attainable and more human, I could do without his self-deprecating moments but it seemed to fit him somehow.I’m still on the fence about how Bryan went from straight to Bi to your the only dick for me and that’s why it didn’t work out with ladies.  I think the author tried to ease up on it by showing some hesitation and the scene where his boner shriveled up. The ending was a bit abrupt and I felt that their relation moved to fast.I mean they went from Fanboy meets Rockstar>first-time gay sex> Only penis for me> let’s travel together. For someone who is supposedly straight and another with some subtle abandonment issues, their relationship seems to move at lightning speed, not to mention the fourteen-year difference. It’s a good book but I wish some scenes were expanded to show more depth.I can’t wait to read the second book- Rockin it Forever, I hope the Author added some physical and emotional conflicts as well as give their relationship more depth.

I received a copy of this title to read and review for Wicked Reads 3.5 Stars. Morticia Knight is a new-to-me author. Rockin' the Alternative is the prequel to Rockin' It Forever. Rock God, Aubrey King, contacts Bryan to write his memoir, not realizing the young man idolizes him. This short story takes place over the course of one evening, more than half of it lusty between-the-sheets action as the rockstar manipulates the straight writer into exploring his sexual boundaries. Not that Bryan isn't more than willing. Obviously this is a short story, so expect things to move quickly. I enjoyed the easy flow of Knight's writing style. However, with this being the initial meeting as a prequel to the full-length book, it was too soon with the insta-lust connection between the pair, the needy rockstar, and the bending by the music writer. Ending it all with talk of forever after a handful of hours together. All in all, it removed the buildup and tension. But I will reserve my thoughts on whether or not this helped or harmed the flow, buildup, and tension during the full-length novel. I have a hard time once the characters give into their passions, as it makes the story feel finished to me, yet the story has just begun.

Insta-love and GFY combo made for an unbelievable read. If those can be overlooked, this is a gripping little glimpse into what Rockin' It Forever will further explore.

3.5 stars. This could've been a solid 5 stars had it been longer. I loved Aubrey and Bryan as MC's, I would truly read more of their story as either a novella or a full length novel. I feel like what I read was the first 2-3 chapters of a much longer work. Like a teaser or something!Hesitantly recommended!

Aubrey is a rockstar working on a comeback. He's been disenchanted with his fellow musicians who seem to only be out for money. Aubrey's kept a good bit of himself private for the sake of "the business" and he's unwilling to sacrifice any longer. It's interesting that he seems to have a crush on a young, but prolific, rock writer--Bryan Gallagher, so much so that he's willing to divulge his biggest secret--his sexuality--to only Bryan, if Bryan will agree to write his memoir. Bryan Gallagher has been a fan boy of Aubrey King's music since forever. His love of rock caused him to seek a career in writing, and Aubrey's music was a huge Eason for that passion. Their first meeting is more like a date, and Bryan is both flattered and unsettled. His admiration for Aubrey is keen, and the suggestion that Aubrey may want him for more than his skills as a writer is terrifying, in an exciting way. This is a quickie love story, with Bryan willing to try and accept Aubrey, as a man and lover. Bryan's never had a solid relationship with a woman, but he's also never been attracted to men. Bryan's hero worship of Aubrey causes him to take a giant leap, and he finds he's far less repulsed by a physical experience than he might have guessed. I really liked the vulrnerability of both men, and how they talk--although the this whole story unfolds over a very short period--about their feelings and fledgling attractions. It gets hawt up in there pretty quick, with a connection that feels deeper than instantaneous likely due to their mutual professional admiration.

Bryan Gallagher is a music journalist that is given the opportunity of a lifetime, Aubrey King wants him to help pen his memoirs. Aubrey King was the lead singer of Falling in Stereo but has been out of the spotlight since the band broke up ten years ago and is now getting ready to launch a solo career. Bryan is excited about the assignment, he's been a fan of Falling in Stereo since he was a kid. He will have to work hard to keep everything on a professional footing and not fan-boy all over the place. Aubrey has managed to keep his sexual orientation out of the spotlight and he doesn't have any immediate plans to out himself, but one look at Bryan has him rethinking his game plan. Both Bryan and Aubrey understand the demands of the business and the spotlight, and a love of music gives the two a deeper appreciation of the other. Can the love of music be enough?I'm not a huge fan of insta-love, but I feel like this was extreme insta-love. Aubrey held that secret for so long and then just spilled it to Bryan when he hadn't even signed the non-disclosure agreement. You can't trust someone after one meeting, can you?!! Bryan's reaction was a little unbelievable for me. All his life he's been with women, he hasn't been with one man and all of a sudden he says "Ok, lets do this." I felt like the only chemistry between the two was the music. This book was so short I feel like it could have been merged with the sequel to make a full novel. The overall story has me intrigued and I can't wait to see where Aubrey and Bryan go from here.

Brian and Aubrey are combustable…What an intense connection between these two characters, the chemistry between Bryan and Aubrey is absolutely combustible. A celebrated music journalist, Brian’s reaction to meeting the musician who inspired him, Aubrey King, is immediate and visceral. Despite Brian’s initial struggle to shrug off his immediate starstruck reaction, it’s Aubrey who appears to be the more vulnerable of the two despite his flamboyant persona. With a long established predilection towards seducing straight men that has led to heartbreak time and again, it’s a valid concern that Brian’s openness to new sensation won’t translate into something lasting. Their immediate attraction doesn’t feel like part of an experiment however; Morticia Knight has created characters who are so completely in sync that it takes only a single conversation to recognize that they speak a language no one else seems to understand. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for these two charismatic men as they delve deeper. Please note I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

A Joyfully Jay review. 4.25 starsShort stories-love them or hate them-they work or they don’t. Rockin’ the Alternative, well, it rocks.Aubrey has hand picked Bryan to write his memoir and Bryan cannot believe he is meeting his rock idol. Sure Aubrey has had his share of men, but he is looking for the one, not the one who only wants to bed a rock star, but the one who gets him and gets his music. Bryan gets the music, but has never entertained the idea of being with a man. Aubrey is a bit lonely and Bryan is a bit star struck. The story is about the one day and night the men meet. It’s erotic, it’s vulnerable, it’s honest, and it’s life changing for both men as they spend the night exploring each other.Read Michelle's review in its entirety here.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest reviewBryan Gallagher is a rock journalist who is given an opportunity to write the memoir of his rock idol, Aubrey King. He has always identified as straight, but has never met anyone who really understood his connection to music. When he meets Aubrey, Bryan is enthralled and Aubrey wants Bryan in every way possible. Bryan has never considered being with a man before, but there is something about Aubrey that causes him to go for it. Their romance heats up fast and packs a huge punch. This is a good starting story of how Brian and Aubrey come together. The next story, Rockin’ it Forever, picks up where this leaves off. This was a great beginning to a wonderful couple.

Very short, very steamy and in my opinion very sweet. Reading Rockin' the Alternative on it's own would have left me confused and disappointed, it started with a bang but ended with a WTH that's it? By itself it isn't long enough to feel much for the MCs but it's enough to wet your whistle. Luckily there is the sequel Rockin' it Forever which ties it all up.**Note...I screwed up. I started reading Rockin’ it Forever not realizing there was this short little story to start me off. It's heavy on insta-lust and insta-love but that can be a good thing once in a while.Neither book is a stand-a-lone but together they are a great read if you're looking for something super sexy with some sweetness on the side.

*** Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie in exchange for a fair and honest review. ***When Bryan Gallagher has the chance to meet his idol Aubrey King and help him write his memoirs, he's more than excited. There's no one he admires more in the world. What he didn't expect was the instant attraction that surged between the two of them, especially since Bryan is straight. Bryan and Aubrey were very likable characters, although I would've liked that Bryan showed a bit more hesitance at just falling into bed with Aubrey. Still, I loved them together, they were truly adorable. This book is sweet, hot and short. It has instalove, but despite that, it was an enjoyable and very sexy read and I'm looking forward to reading the sequel, Rockin' It Forever, soon.Rating: 4 Stars!

Okay so not all but so so true. We are not left with a cliffy but at the beginning of a beautiful start to a relationship and you just can't wait for more.Bryan is a freelance writer and just made the short list to interview his idol, the one person that got him into the music biz. Aubrey King. Aubrey has been MIA from the music world for ten years and part of his comeback is this interview. What neither one expect is the explosive connection. The connection is amazing, fast and real. When you know, you know.In the 60 pages we get the beginning of this relationship, we get the start of why Bryan can't go and why Aubrey is so wary. What we really get this them learning each other.

3 1/2 starsI enjoyed the story. It was just too short and the ending was a bit abrupt. I really liked the characters and would have loved to learn more about them and see more of their time together. It could easily be a 5 star read for me with further development. For the most part the story takes place over the course of 1 day. The mc's get together and develop strong feelings for each other in that short amount of time. This may be a turn off for readers who don't like insta-love stories.

A bit too much instant love and gay for you in this book. But the attraction between them was kind of believable. The shared passion for music was clear though and brought them together.I think the it happened it such a small timeframe that the book just felt a bit off. I'm interested in the full story though and will wait for their next book.I received this book free for a honest review.
