Normally I ennoy this author, however this one was just damn weird.Part of the Kept anthology. Not recommended. Poor plot, bizarre sex with androgynous aliens. Not a cliffhanger, but not a HFN either.

I usually enjoy C.L.Scholey's stories so I had high expectations on this even if it was just a short.I enjoyed the beginning of the story, but as it progressed I just wanted it to be over. I'm unsure if I would have held on long enough if it had been longer. On the other hand it might have been a better story then...I liked the initial Cali with her spunky attitude. Then her spunkyness turned to sillyness. It was a bit humorous with light beings taking on human shapes and their reaction to that. Then it just turned weird. And that is the word that sticks like glue to my impression two days after finishing the story - weird.(view spoiler)[The light blob on a chest turns out to be a pregnancy, male pregnancy at that. How that happened and how Cali is supposed to be part of making that is beyond me. After all SHE didn't put any genetical material into her partners. To add to the weirdness there is an all knowing council that not only knows the present but also the future. And earth was a social and evolutionary experiment that went wrong. That got me wondering. If this council knew the experiment called Earth would go wrong, then WHY didn't they try to make it right?(hide spoiler)]

While I have enjoyed the previous books written by Ms. Scholey, I could not enjoy this one. I found the dialog stilted, childish, and the storyline did not do it for me. I also felt that the story was rushed somehow. This was definately not her best book in my opinion, in fact if I didn't know otherwise I would have thought it was her first attempt at writing. I hope her next books are more like her first two series and have meat to them.

Universal Hunters:Taken by C.L.SCHOLEYInteresting alien world of living light beings that can transform into other forms. It's an intriguing storyline with her wonderful creations. Although I loved her other two series of books, this is a fun read but I liked her other books better. Check it out and see if you like it.

I usually like this author but this book was just too weird for me. I felt no connection to any of the characters. It does not read smoothly...it was rushed and most of the time just didn't make any sense. I would not recommend it to anyone. Sorry

UnexpectedThis story fell short for me. One word to sum it up--silly. As with the author's other books, the story was imaginative, unfortunately too much of a good thing is bad. As a fan of her other books, I reluctantly give it 2 stars. I wanted to like it but it was too unreal.
