Plot: This is not your typical vampire novel! It has such a cleverly though out back story and it have literally never read anything like this before. It was original clever and gripping. The story follows the main character when he is on his death bed dying from cancer. Obviously then some vampire things happen and it becomes this very clever and fun story. Characters: Jericho is the main character who I absolutely loved. In such a short novella there was so much character development that by then end of the story I felt very connected and had some clear routes and ships! He had such a sad back story that empathy is quickly established and you really want him to get the chance he deserves. He is also really selfless which I love especially as a vampire it makes there a lot of twists and within this novel, this is a really interesting idea with vampires and it was a very structured idea that was followed well. Sky had such an incredible back story! It was so clever and for once I didn’t predict her back story which surprised me! I really didn’t like her tone at first but once she stopped being so reserved towards Jericho she started to get a lot more interesting. The rest of the characters were really interesting and had great back stories but there were quite a few which meant I did struggle to keep up with them at times. Favourite aspects: The idea and back story of Jericho and sky! It was brilliant; it is very different and thought out very cleverly so that everything ties together. I really can’t wait to see more of this combination there is so many routes and further back story that could occur which although it did not end on a cliff hanger it left it with room for more!

Check out my blog to see Reviews of Books and Movies as well as Recipes and DIY projectsI received this book for free in exchange for a fair and honest review. First Blood: Rise of the True Immortal is written by Chelsea Ballinger and is a book that revolves around vampires. Jericho is a man that has lived a lonely life and is currently biding his time until Leukemia takes his life and he can finally give up on his lonely existence. In a moment of darkness, while drinking at a bar he is approached by a man named Mathias who will alter everything he knows about his entire life. Jericho will come to question everything he thought he knew and everything he believed, and open his heart up to feelings he never imagined were possible.First Blood is a quick read and hard to put down. Chelsea has done a spectacular job at creating relatable and likeable characters. You get to know a lot about these characters and can feel the suspense in the action. The dialogue is not over done and I love the insight into the thoughts of others.I must commend Chelsea on taking a topic such as vampires and still finding a way to twist it into a whole new light. The process of change and some of the abilities are entirely new. As is the back story of Jericho and his roots. Overall I give this book a 5/5 stars. It is familiar and yet unique enough to entertain. The dialogue is full of entertaining banter and the characters are well portrayed. The end of the book left me wanting more and I can’t wait to read the next installment in this series. If you are into Vampires, mythology, fantasy, romance, suspense, thriller, fiction, you will definitely enjoy this book.

ARC copy received for honest review. My name is Jericho Evans.I’m twenty one years old.I have no friends, no girlfriend, and no family. And I’m dying. These are the things Jericho has been telling himself every day since he was diagnosed with stage four Leukemia. But let me say Chelsea blew this out of the water. The story gets you at the beginning and don't let you stop until you are finished. And believe me I am wanting more! Just when Jericho thinks all hope is lost he is turned to a vampire. But there is a higher power that he is destined for. You can see the battles they face and can feel the way they feel especially the love between him and Sky. Can not wait to read the next one!

Surprisingly great first in series.Jericho is twenty-one years old, he's got stage four leukaemia and his life has not been a happy one, he was found abandoned as a baby in the woods, naked with nothing but his name tattooed on his arm. His doctor has given him the news that the treatment is not working so he knows the end is close but then he meets the mysterious Mathias who claims to have known Jericho's mother but more than that he claims to have the answers to the questions Jericho has always had and soon Jericho finds himself with a decision to make, a decision between life and death.A whole new world is opened up for Jericho as he discovers vampires do exist, living in tribes around the world, both good and bad. There's also the beautiful and bewitching Sky to whom he feels strangely drawn.I love a good vampire read and this was just that, once I got past the first few pages, I'm not sure why but it took me a while to settle into the writing style but once Mathias appeared the story drew me in and I was completely hooked. You'd think by now there'd be nowhere new to go with Vampires but this book managed to be interesting and enthralling. The synopsis didn't mention this was a first in series but I knew from reading the reviews that there is at least a book 2 otherwise the ending would have annoyed me. The next book is First Blood II : Return of the Queen and its expected to be out January 2015 and I can't wait.A really surprising read.

Befitting title, "Rise Of The True Immortal." Jericho born and dies not once, not twice, How many times? Vampires, witches, add a priest to the mix now forsaken to enter the pearly gates, Why again you ask? Read the book! Lucinda, Lucinda, who is she? This beauty leaves a trail of whimpering desire. That's where the mystery unfolds. Jericho and Lucinda, Jericho and Sky, Jericho and Nikoli, Jericho and Mathias. I know Jericho, Jericho! Quite a tale to tell. Writing superb but there was something missing. Detailing Jericho's past and present lives were fine but felt, not lost just waiting for that real excitement paranormal books captures. I commend you on your writing skills. Action, intensity, desire, resentment, hatred and machismo all present but like I mentioned early, something was missing. I did enjoy it, keep up the good work, we need more paranormal writers. Thank you for the opportunity to read your story. Free e-book for review, Darlene Cruz

I was immediately drawn into the book, even though my first thought was “really, another vampire book that ‘redefines’ them”? Once I was able to get past that issue, the story line was intriguing and fresh. Learning why Jericho has always felt different is pretty darn awesome, too. Kudos to Ballinger on this! The name Jericho was an interesting choice. Upon a bit of research, you’ll learn that the name is believed to be derived from the word meaning "moon" (Yareaẖ) in Canaanite. I sure wish I would have known this before reading the book. It would make a great prologue addition. Especially when you learn about the dark beauty to which he is drawn aptly named “Sky”. She’s a taciturn firecracker.Jericho is a well written character. It’s easy to follow and understand his thought process. I wish we had a better understanding or more clues about his nature, role in the vampire war and relationship with others. It’s pretty easy to join his team and cheer him on, especially now that he has a purpose in his life. Matthias is a bit of an enigma to me. We know Jericho has some sort of relationship with him (father-type role), but I’m not exactly sure if I like Matthias. Sometimes I was rooting for him and other times I kind of wanted to kick him in the shin. Good leader behavior or someone who is trying to protect/hide the past? There are times when he comes across as slightly shady (hahaha, roll with the pun), especially in his relationship with his brother (Um, quite the unknown secondary character…more to unfold in book 2?).Speaking of secondary characters. Give us more Aaron, Cecil and Cassie! I loved the writing but was left wanting more to the point of going back through the book because I wondered if I missed something along the way. *Spoiler alert* (kind of)… Jericho’s inability to remember, vague hinting about Matthias, no “complete” answers for Jericho from anyone in the tribe, who the players are in the Order, etc. I get that this is the first story in the series, but the author needs to sink her fangs (yes, pun intended) deeper into the reader to ensure that we’re hooked and want to complete the transformation from casual reader to devoted follower (Yup, there’s another pun in there. Read the book.)One can imagine that this was all done with the intention to set the scene for the subsequent books in the series. We do have a cliffhanger between Jericho and Sky which is a perfect segue way into book 2. This was very well done. I can’t give this book more than 4 stars, even though I really want to do so. Not because I wasn't interested in the story or characters, but for the mere fact that several angles of the story appear to be abbreviated and incomplete. I’m hoping there will be more in answers in book 2, which I plan to read.

First Blood: Rise Of The True Immortal (First Blood #1) by Chelsea Ballinger.I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review of this book. This is the story of Jericho Evans. He is alone in this world, a world he's never fit into, and at twenty-one years old, he's dying. Through a stranger, he's been given an opportunity to learn about the family he's never known. This knowledge will change everything he's ever thought and believed to be true. It will also allow him to have the family he's never had and the love he's lived without. This book is a combination of paranormal, mystery, suspense, romance and the meaning of undying love. It is told in third person.(view spoiler)[Jericho is believed to be "the one". The one true immortal that has been spoke of in prophesies. He is the one that can save the vampire race. Cronan, an ex-member of his vampire tribe, is determined to kill him and lead vampires to become superior and rule over the human race. Jericho finds out that he has lived many lives, lives he cannot remember. He is drawn to Sky, a beautiful vampire who is promised to another. He feels a connection to her that is unlike anything he has ever experienced. Jericho is on an emotional roller-coaster as he learns who he was and who he is meant to be. He feels sadness at the loss of his mother, happiness to be part of the tribe, repulsion to the feeding of innocents, satisfaction to feeding on evil ones, anger to the secrets that are kept from him, longing to remember his past and a deep passion for Sky. (hide spoiler)]First Blood is a quick read with lots of action. It was refreshing to read a book in third person POV, and it enhanced the depth of the story. Chelsea Ballinger did an excellent job writing. She gives enough information to keep the reader interested and invested, but not enough to foresee all the twists and turns. This book ended in a mini-cliffhanger. When the book ended, I felt satisfied with the ending, instead of cheated. However, there is much more to come in this story, so I will be excited when the next book comes out!!

4 Fangs"First Blood: Rise of the True Immortal" is a supernatural romance that spans hundreds of years for one young man named Jericho. It is a fast read. Though the explanations and insights to the characters are brief, it works for the story. Jericho was found as a baby in the woods. It was winter and the poor baby was found with nothing to protect him from the weather. The story gives the reader a brief history of his life, which was rough. As Jericho grows into a young man, he finds that he is terminally ill, his chemotherapy is not working and he will die soon. Jericho is not sure his death will or will not be welcomed. As Jericho is wallowing in self-pity at his local watering hole, He meets a man that he rebuffs. This man finally convinces Jericho to go to a better bar. There he finds out that the stranger, Mathias, knew is biological mother. This becomes to much for Jericho and he flees the bar.The following night he returns to his neighborhood bar to find he is being followed both by friend and foe. In the encounter he learns that there are more than humans occupying his city of Chicago. There are vampires and they all want him dead for different reasons. This an interesting twist on the vampire mythos. I found I really like the story but was put-off a bit by some of the typos, which can be easily corrected. There aren't many but enough to confuse me for a few moments until I could puzzle out what the writer meant. This book is the first of a series called "First Blood."

I won this book thru a contest here from the author and it was a short, interesting read. The whole thing about the person having to be sick and dying in order to be turned was something I've never read before so that was a new take for me. The only reason I didn't like it was because if that's really how it has to be (you know, like if vampires were actually real...) I'd be so screwed 'cause I'm not dying!Jericho is dying. He hasn't exactly had a great life and he's kind of getting tired of fighting the inevitable. After an experimental drug failed to help him he's out drowning his sorrows at a bar when a stranger named Mathias approaches him. Even though he doesn't want the company he ends up following Mathias to his bar. Mathias has some of the answers that Jericho seeks, but he's also scared to know so he pretty much runs away. But he can't run away from his fate. He's soon attacked by the bad guys and pushed into the vampire world where he learns he's been prophesied to save them as the true immortal. He learns much about himself and his previous lives and about his mother. After the last big hoorah against the bad vampires a bombshell of a sort is dropped on them and Jericho is determined to complete a new task and claim what is his.I did enjoy reading this book, but I can't say that I'll be itching to read it over and over. And while I am quite curious as to what happens in the next book too, I'm not sure I would buy the book to find out.

*I was given a copy for an honest review*This is the first book in the First Blood Series.Jericho is a 21 year old boy who is dying from stage four Leukemia. He has gone threw treatment but there is no use they don't work. He is alone in the world with no friends or family. He was found in the woods as a infant. The only thing he knew was his name because it was tattooed to his arm since he was a baby. He has always felt different and out of place. Until one day while at the bar he ran into a guy named Mathias. Mathias takes him to a lounge/bar he owns so they could talk. At that very second Jericho's life is about to change. Everything he ever thought was wrong, now he gets to find out the truth of who he is.In this story you learn about death, depression, hatred, friendship, soul-mates and sacrifice. Once Jericho lays eyes on Sky everything seems real. There is something about her that draws him to her. The chemistry between the two is undeniable! He wants her but she is promised to someone else.Rise Of The True Immortal is a fantastic book! It captures your attention from page one and leaves you on the edge of your seat wanting more! Ms Ballinger is a phenomenal writer and won't disappoint! This book is definitely worth a one-click!!Now that being said I will not be so patently waiting for book 2!!! :)PLEASE HURRY!5 Stars!!!!

I received a gift copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Jericho has never felt like he fit in he has always been a loner and now he is going to die. His one wish is that he could have known his real parents. All he knows is that he was found outside one day and that his name is Jericho and the only reason he knows that is because of the tattoo on his arm. Matthias has always looked after Jericho from afar he has been doing this for years. Now he feels it is time to tell Jericho who he really is. This does not go over so well Jericho thinks Matthis is missing a few marbles to say the least. Sky has waited a long time to see Jericho again but the reunion is bittersweet. For their love is forbidden now she has been promised to another. I could not even imagine going from dying one day to learning you are supposed to fulfill a prophecy in the next. This is an amazing read and I cannot wait to see what happens next. Will things work out for Sky and Jericho? Will he save them all? Guess we will all have to wait to find out!

***Be careful this book has cliffhanger***This is a story about a vampire who is 461 years old and the most important thing that he even doesn’t know that he is a vampire. Jericho is a young man who is dying until one day he meets a man, Mathias, he said Jericho that he can help him to stay alive. In the beginning Jericho doesn’t believe him. But then everything goes up and down and Mathias helps Jericho from death. And this is the beginning of Jericho’s long trip, he will know about his parents, love of his life and more.I liked this story because it wasn’t what I always have read. When I read a book about vampires they are always in school. They always met mortal girl. They always fall in love with that damn girl. Like I say ALWAYS THE SAME! So this story was like fresh air to me. Of course if author would have write something about Jericho and Sky steamy love making I would give this book hundreds of stars! But now only 5 :D

Jericho Evans is dieing, or so he thinks. He meets Mathias is a bar and he tells him that he knew his mother and that they are vampires. Not only that there is a group of vampires that want to kill him for real. Because if that wasnt enough he is also a true immortal!I do not want to give to much away. This book is not very long so it is a great book to read while curled up under a blanket! The story is written so well. Everything is explained in detail but not to the point of making you bored and uninterested. Every character is explained in do time. It keeps you interested and curios until the last page. I can not explain how much I love this book!Jericho goes through so much but is such a great character. I loved Sky, Cassie, Mathias, Cecil and all of them. I can not wait for the next book! Trust me you will not regret reading this story!I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

*I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*This was an amazing story!  It's a vampire story but it's truly unique.  Jericho has led a difficult life and now he's dying.   At the right moment,  when Jericho needed it, a man approaches him. Mathias tells Jericho unbelievable things. Things that will alter his entire world.  This is a very quick read.  I read it in entirely one sitting because it's really THAT good.  The author can write characters with such depth that I easily fell in love with them.  I highly recommend this book and I know I will continue reading books by Chelsea Ballinger. 5*

5 starsThis book is super awesome! I love vampires so of course I loved this story. It is full of action and will keep you entertained for sure. The story of Jericho is a bit sad but then after he becomes a vampire his life changes for the better. I loved Sky, she kicked butt, she was an awesome and very strong vampire. I am hoping that Jericho and Sky get their HEA. Can't wait to read more of this story and the awesome characters.
