We don't understand animal's language, but we try. Often times we put human wordings and imaginations on their mouth and this gives rise to children's stories. Sara Shafer's "The Bravest Squirrel in the Forest" is not an exception. It's amazing how the author, by gazing at the squirrels in her attic, has come up with such a nice story book for kids. Here the little squirrel named Max has been portrayed just like a kid, who has little siblings, a mama, and a lost uncle. In order to find out his uncle, Max goes to the forest where the story takes lot of interesting turns. Finally little Max is able to prove his bravery against all odds. I was fortunate to receive a signed copy from the author, where she wrote a touchy note for me: "Be brave!" I liked the flow of writing, how the story was developed, the emotions and the dramas. I also liked some of the word juggleries, for example: "Mr. Missing toe is missing his uncle too!" The only regret is that the book does not have any illustrations inside.
