Lucky me to have my own copy of this story which I first saw performed by children's librarian Dodie Tudor. My version is illustrated by Lisl Weil and can be purchased new at Amazon for $200+ or used from $30. It's available for less from other sources. You can listen to the story at this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xw1qfg.... The story is the same but the illustrations are different.I've enlarged the pages and made a flip card story. I used it in today's story time "Nutshell Excursions" because the "bed just so" turns out to be a half walnut shell filled with cotton fluff and covered with a small leaf. (I used a paper leaf).I sprinkled the craft tables with die-cut leaves in various sizes and colors. The children had a coloring sheet inspired by the boxed set cover art.http://www.abebooks.com/book-search/t... (cover art)http://www.fontspace.com/nymphont/lt-... (nutshell library font)Of course a music c.d. of Mozart's music was played during craft time, as Mozart is Sendak's composer of choice to work by.

One of my favorite childhood books! I still have a copy. It's great to re-read as an adult and absorb the little learning nuggets.

This was a gift from my Aunt Jan, an early childhood specialist. It is a cute story of a man whose sleep is disturbed by someone who doesn't like his bed.
