But the zombie apocalypse taxes even his skills as he tries to get his family and friends out of Springfield, Missouri. When Dave receives an alert message from an old military friend warning him to get out of the city, he takes it seriously. Escaping the building is the first challenge and the gathering zombies are the second challenge. Now Dave has to link up with his friends and get them all out of the city to his ranch which is quickly being overrun by zombies, psychos and the military who are suddenly looking for Nate's family...Nate, a military contact sends Dave a message at work about a complete news blackout on the east and west coast just as the building security starts asking if anybody has visited these states or been sick recently. Dave is worried that the building is in lockdown and people are being segregated, so along with work friend Porsche, they try to escape the building-to find a zombie apocalypse waiting for them outside. Dave now has to find his girlfriend Maya and her daughter, then locate Nathan's family before trying to get out of the city, which will be more difficult than any of them thought. This book fits the zombie profile that I enjoy so much. We get to see the early stages of the zombie apocalypse breaking out and how quickly society falls apart with panic and armed thugs roaming the streets. We see the MC trying to gather up the people he cares about as he encounters both zombies and bad guys. There is then the desperate attempt to get to relative safety outside the city. But there is a lot more to this book than just that. A military faction want to capture Nate's family to use as leverage against him which is why Dave needs to rescue Cassie and Bryce, and survivors are being rounded up for transport to safer places which does not fit into Dave's plans. But dodging the military is going to prove very tough.I liked Dave. As a prepper and former military man, he is the guy you want to be with during a zombie apocalypse. He has organised extra supplies and weapons, along with transport out of the city to a safer location. He and Nate came up with a detailed plan for any disaster but the zombies are proving to be a test even for Dave. I liked his colleague Porsche, and for once we have the joy of a male and female character who are just friends! See, authors, it DOES happen in real life! Dave has to locate his girlfriend Maya who has a frosty relationship with her ex husband Karl, but being Amy's father, Dave is not prepared to leave Karl behind. There is tension between the two men but not enough to detract from the story. I also liked Cassie and Bryce. There is also good action as Dave moves across the city dodging man and zombie. There is the action of his escape from his workplace, the hairy trip across town, the botched rescue of Cassie and Bryce, and the big scenes at the stadium which I enjoyed as a change from the usual plot. It then switches to the dangerous journey out of the city where the action and tension are never ending. The traditional zombie fan should enjoy the way the book progresses and although we have an evil government subplot, there are plenty of zombies to keep everyone happy. After reading this book, I purchased the rest of the series and look forward to reading them.

When I read the synopsis of this book I was intrigued. An infections agent, government coverups, and a prepper who was ready for anything, just not necessarily the ZA.I love the way the author wrote the main character, but more importantly to me, I love how he wrote the women in this book. No shrinking violets, no damsels in distress, no wannabe badasses in tight shorts and low cut halters sporting an assult rifle as an accessory (hello, Walking Dead?). They are smart, calm, and prepared. Hopefully, how I would react in a similar situtation.I look forward to the next book in the series. I'm sad I have to wait. I don't say that for many of the ZA or SHTF books I read. Thanks for a great read Ben Reeder!

I am obviously on a ZA kick lately and it is getting harder and harder to find a good zombie book these days. So many authors want to bog you down with details that really don't mean much to the overall plot of the book. This book kept on task from the get go. I was entranced through-out the entire book. Not only having to fight off the zombies but also deal with the people. It's always the people! Dave Stewart is a kick ass survivalist who has a crazy set of rules for the ZA. He saves his girlfriend, her daughter and a handful of other folks that just need saved. Running from the zombies turns out to be the least of his worries, it's the guys in black he must watch out for!Overall this was a well written book and an interesting twist to the zombie apocalypse. I look forward to what Book 2 will bring us.

One of the better in this genreI have this a 5 star rating. I picked this up this morning to take a break and . I just finished this at 6 pm, with a few kid breaks thrown in. I wasn't hot about the way the story started but once he got to work it had my interest. I certainly hope he has his next book out shortly as I will be waiting for it.

This book takes place in Springfield, Missouri; St. Louis is mentioned, so I'm hoping the sequel talks about places that are familiar to me.

This look at the zombie apocalypse starts with someone who's actually prepared for the stuff to hit the fan. Dave Stewart is an office worker who's written some novels in his spare time along with getting ready for an epic disaster. His girlfriend drops him off at the cubicle-farm office where he works. A local sheriff's assistant shows up and tries to herd everyone into the basement as the undead swarm the parking lots outside. Dave knows that listening to the officer is likely to end badly and starts his emergency bug-out plan. The cute girl in the cubicle across the way helps him escape the building and the parking lot (she has a car). His first plan is to find his girlfriend and to leave town with some supplies. He has a hideaway far away from densely populated areas. Only some thing don't go according to plan. The most interesting parts of the story are the technical details of his escape plan and his knowledge of weapons, supplies, and vehicles. The descriptions are very convincing. It's like Tom Clancy wrote a zombie novel. The appendix has links to the various resources the main character uses as well as Dave's rules of survival (reminiscent of Zombieland's rules). The action scenes are also well written--both easy to follow and exciting to read (again like Clancy). The story suffers a little bit from its large cast (Dave has a girlfriend who has an ex; he also has an ex who has her own boyfriend; there's a sprinkling of children) who aren't very individualized other than Dave. I struggled to remember who was related to whom and how. Also, the story ends abruptly without a proper conclusion, though the author is working on a sequel. As a first part, the book is enjoyable. I'd read the sequel.

Wouldn't it be great to have an ex military friend who helps you plan and purchase supplies over the last few years for a disastrous event that is yet to come? Then when it finally "hatches", he calls to inform you that it's time to go and execute their long awaited plan. However, sometimes, plans do not go as expected. The main character, Dave, is a published author of several novels and works in a call center during the day. He is here when he gets the word from his friend to "Bug Out". He and co-worker, Porche, must evade police and military forces just to escape from their place of employment. It's a race against time, but many of the pieces are not where they are supposed to be. First step is to rescue his girl friend on the other side of town, but she is not home. Zombies are everywhere! The book is filled with suspense and readers will not be able to put it down without finding out what happens next. It's short at 161 pages and easy to read - most readers could finish it during a Saturday afternoon. Great job Mr. Reeder! My only criticism is that many of these series books are published months apart - and thus, lose interested readers for future installments. I wish authors would complete an entire series and then publish all the individual books at the same time - allowing readers to continue purchasing/reading until the series ends. This was a great story - somebody let me know when the next installment is available so I don't miss out. Highly recommended! "Zompac Survivor: Exodus" is definitely in the top ten of this genre!John Podlaski, authorCherries - A Vietnam War Novel

Before I read this book, I had heard many great things about it. It sounded like my kind of story: zombie apocalypse, survivors, weapons, etc. I won't rehash what this book is about-- that's what the synopsis is for. I give Zompoc Survivor: Exodus 5 out of 5 stars because it exceeded my expectations. From beginning to end, the story entertained and kept me on the edge of my seat. Is it realistic? I hope not. It's a zombie story. I don't want it to be realistic. Is it fun? Most definitely. The story starts off in a fast-paced manner and only gains momentum as it goes. I was hooked from page one, fell in love with the characters by chapter 4, didn't think it could get any more exciting around chapter 10, felt hopeless by the end of chapter 13, and on the last page, found myself wishing the next book was already available so I could see what happens next. If you're looking for a fun read that will keep your attention from start to finish, I highly recommend Zompoc Survivor: Exodus. You won't regret it!

This was just fun! This book kept me turning the pages non stop! Great action, and several plots unfold as our hero Dave, finds himself in the beginnings of a Z apocalyptic adventure. Only noticed 1 or 2 misspelled words. So why not 5 stars? It reads like many of the others I've read so although it's a great read, I kind of know what's going to happen next. But to me, that's okay because I happen to really like this kind of story, and it is written well. This was so much fun to read I immediately purchased the next book in the series. Great job and I will be looking at other books written by this author.

I want to start off by saying two things: 1. I don't like zombie stories. 2. I freaking love this zombie story!! It has everything that I look for in a good story, such as humor, good dialogue, and emotionally compelling characters with a healthy dose of smart ass. It's also got tons of well-written action with stunning visual descriptions. It moves along at a very fast clip until suddenly you are at the end and cursing your luck for having to wait for the next book in the series.

EDGE-OF-YOUR-SEAT ACTION!To say this book is action-packed is an understatement. I loved the details and the distinction between ghouls and zombies. I can't wait to see where this series goes. As a zombie apocalypse closet prepper, Reeder has proven one thing to me: I am woefully unprepared. I'm ready for the complete zombie apocalypse preparation companion guide to go along with this series. It's your civic duty, Reeder. I can't wait to see what Dave is up to in the next book.

I like a good apocalypse tale, zombie or otherwise. This was a bit different, from a different type of survivor. Lots of useful apocalypse survival info, written in a witty fashion. And he throws in lots of movie quotes in just the right places.

There are much better zombie books out there than this one. The characters seem to expect a zombie apocalypse and there is little fear as an undercurrent.
