An enchanting magical tale of sparkling romance and surrealism that’s simply stunning! The initiation is coming… This exquisitely woven, beautifully mesmeric tale (almost dreamlike quality to it) about forbidden love literally melted my heart. As a fan of fantasy and a‘Twi-hard’ who loves Young Adult romance, I found this beguiling book utterly irresistible and a perfect read! The new Elemental Enchanters series is a supremely singular edition to a hugely popular genre; filled with inspired concepts, intriguing ideas and fascinating premise all that is blended seamlessly together. I was most impressed by how 17 year old Ava and her group of outlandish friend’s story grabbed my interest instantly, pulling me into a thrilling adventure reminiscent of X-Men for a younger audience! The human/ Immortal forbidden love between the main protagonists avoided all common clichés due to the nature of the world-building and extensive, detailed history that the author had incorporated within the complex narrative so as to make the story convincing and feel ‘real’. Fans of books about Witchcraft, magic and mystery (like for instance Beautiful Creatures) will simply love this compelling and highly readable supernatural story. Under a blood moon by Carrigan Richards is an enjoyable edition to the Young Adult paranormal romance/ fantasy genre and definitely a recommended read. It contains all the elements that you would typically associate with teenage Witchy tales and yet is written in a distinctive voice and warm style. I do consider that the storyline could have been expanded and more depth displayed within the fast-paced action scenes {that were a little snappy and choppy in places}, yet overall it is an accomplished first instalment within what I confidently predict being a successful and entertaining new series. *I would like to thank the author for providing me with an e-copy of her dazzling debut to read & write an honest, non-biased review on* My rating - 3.5 stars

I found this novel to be a fun and compelling read. There were times in the middle where I got a bit frustrated with Ava the main character and her dealings with her boyfriend Thomas. I felt she should have stood up for herself with him sooner and it would have been less hurtful for both of them. I also began to wonder why one of Ava's friends became so mean and spiteful toward her halfway through the story. I wasn't really clear on the motivation behind this change. It made me wonder if this character was somehow brainwashed into joining the villains. I'm still not sure that won't end up being the case. At the end everyone seems to feel that the bad guys have been defeated and everything will be calmer. But the reader and Ava the main character are left wondering if this is really the case or if someone nobody knows about is still out there pulling the strings for more mayhem later. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good YA fantasy. The twist on a story about magical, hereditary witches was fresh and original. The love story between Ava and Peter the human boy she cares about was sweet and interesting without being sappy or overly dramatic. Overall I enjoyed this read and am looking forward to a sequel.

Actual Rating 4.5 of 5 StarsSo, before starting Under A Blood Moon, I figured that yes, it was going to be a good book(wouldn't read it if I didn't think so), but I didn't think that it would be absolutely amazing. I was taken by surprise, though, by how much I got swept up in this story. I feel like one of my favorite parts of the story is that the main character and her five closest friends all start out knowing that they are Enchanters, which is kind of outside the norm, and was a pleasant surprise to me.Ava Hannigan is an Elemental Enchanter, which is a rare type of Enchanter and one that tends to be more powerful. Ava's element is water, which gives her the ability to breathe underneath it, and the other five members of her coven control the other main elements. Having been a part of this particular group since she was seven, and all the others pairing up she feels that she should stay with Thomas, her long time boyfriend and Fire Elemental Enchanter, even has he continues to be possessive and basically abusive, and even though she is in love with Peter, a human. I absolutely could not put this down! You watch as Ava slowly but surely becomes more defiant and starts to realize that what she wants is important too, even as she pushes Peter away for his own safety. I don't want to give spoilers, but I have to say that I really loved their relationship. Peter reacted honestly throughout the book. Even though he had feelings for Ava, he didn't let that get in the way when he felt he needed to say something. Not only did I enjoy Ava and Peter, but I feel like the other members of the story were well developed as well. I don't want to name names, but even the characters who were pretty much "bad guys" were so enjoyable to read about, because I feel like even they had many layers, and it didn't all read as black and white, if that makes sense. I would definitely recommend this book for fans of young adult paranormal-type books, especially if you enjoy something a little different. Book two of this series comes out in July and it's already on my Goodreads TBR List. In fact, this author also has a contemporary story that I've promptly "one-clicked." There is just something about the way she writes that kept me turning pages as fast as my Kindle could keep up.

Real Rating: 4.5 My sister recommended this book to me and since we have similar book tastes I thought: "why not?"The book started out in a surprising way, it was a flashback sort of thing which set the mood for the whole story. I really liked this book and the characters all had their own personalities. Which is cool. There are six members in Ava's coven and I'd love to have pretty much all their powers, you know, if I was an Enchanter. There are things about some of the characters(Paige says no spoilers) that I didn't like, but it's in that way where the character is well written and you're actually supposed to not like them if that makes sense. Throughout Under A Blood Moon, I kept expecting something to happen that didn't happen. I have a strong feeling it's going to, so I can't wait to read the second book and see what happens when it happens, haha. Anyways, overall I really liked this book, perhaps one of the better paranormal witch-type books out there, and I read a lot of those! So, if you want a really good book that puts a new spin on witchy powers I recommend you give this one a read. I would also like to note that my sister says I'm extremely picky, which I guess I am. So, if I like this book then hopefully you will too. I'm going to recommend it to my friends that like to read too. :)

I enjoyed the story... I liked the plot and the characters. The story was well-written with in-depth details. The characters had distinct personalities. The relationships were well developed and thought out. I liked the teenage angst and jealousy.. I loved the complete 180 in attitude by Gillian... I hope to see some evil from her in the future.. :)Peter and Ava are a great couple, and even though Thomas was an arrogant jerk, I felt sorry for him.It was a fast paced story with interlaced with romance and action.I'm sure there will be more to this story and I look forward to the next installment...

I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock.Under a Blood Moon is the first book in the Elemental Enchanters Series.Ava a seventeen year old has been dreading the day when she became different. She knew it would happen and when she found out she could breathe underwater she wasn't happy. All she wanted to be was normal but that is impossible she is an enchanter and even more she is a rare enchanter, an elemental. She is in a coven with two other girls and three boys who have been bound together. Ava seeks to escape her life and finds comfort and normalcy in the company of Peter a human. The problem is she finds more than comfort with Peter but a relationship is forbidden, not to mention she has a boyfriend. Afraid of breaking the coven rules and putting Peter in harms way, she plays a dangerous game and keeps him at arms length. But Peter isn't the only problem she has a evil enchanter who is hunting them and she and her friends must learn to harness their powers. They have to learn to wield their power, stay true to one another and protect their loved ones. When Peter becomes a target, things get complicated and the stakes are raised higher than the teens imagined. A game of life and death, and magic and love begins.I loved the story. I really enjoyed the concept and the characters. An enchanting story of forbidden love. The characters were each unique and interesting. Ava was a strong yet fragile teen seeking to do what she thought was right. The way she always tried to help Peter was beautiful. You could see her love shining off the pages. Peter was the same way. He was a strong character and a perfect companion to Ava. He treated her like she should have been treated by her 'boyfriend' Thomas. Thomas has got to be one of the worst boyfriends ever. His character was totally selfish and mean. My favorite supporting character was Jeremy. He was understanding and thoughtful. The story reminded me of Secret Circle. The magic, action and romance kept me entertained the whole way through. Fans of witches and magic or forbidden love will enjoy this intriguing tale.A memorizing YA story.I rate this 4/4.5 fangs.

I really enjoyed Under A Blood Moon. It’s fast paced, filled with complex characters, and an enchanting love story. Ava is a water elemental whom is just coming into her powers. She is sworn to secrecy by her coven to never reveal her powers and to always stay true to her coven. There are six people in her coven besides the elders, Ava, Gillian, Melissa, Thomas, Jeremy, and Lance. Ava is dating Thomas whom is the star quarterback of the football team and a huge jerk. He used to be so different when they first started dating but over the years he’s become possessive and slightly aggressive. Ava feels like because of her promise to her coven and the fact that shes bound to each of them that she is stuck dating Thomas especially since the other girls are dating the other guys in the coven. She never even thought that she could date another enchanter. Though Ava has strong feelings for Peter, but humans are strictly a no and if the elders found out any of them were dating a human they could be stripped of their powers and exiled from the coven. There’s so much character growth for Ava through this novel. At first she’s more quiet and insecure and through out the book she becomes such a solid and strong character. Her relationship with Peter is great! Her and Peter are so adorable. It neat to see a love story begin slowly and then build up from the middle towards the end. I also loved the love story because they start out as friends and it just blossoms from there. There was only one thing I didn’t like about this book. There’s a moment where Peter gets kidnapped and within a paragraph a month has passed. It was very confusing and very anti-climatic. It also seemed very against Ava’s character to sit around and wait for a month to check on Peter to see if he was okay. That didn’t make sense to me, especially since other humans have been going missing. It just seemed very abrupt and out of character for Ava. Besides that though I loved this book, it was pretty amazing! And I cannot wait to read the sequel!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Ava, Melissa, Gillian, Lance, Jeremy and Thomas have always shared a special bond. They all are Enchanters and have known since an early age that their bond now and will forever go deeper than the normal bonds of friendship. While the others eagerly await their initiation Ava dreads it. Ava is terrified of having powers and possibly having to go to war but more than that she craves a normal life so that she can be with the one she truly loves Peter. She can no longer stand to be in a relationship with Thomas. He has grown aggressive, possessive and in all honesty into a jackass. A new kid comes into their school and strange things start to happen. Kids disappear for weeks on end and when they return it’s like they have had a personality lobotomy. They are completely changed. Ava is convinced that Xavier the new kid is an Enchanter as well but getting the others to believe her is tough. After they all come into their new powers things drastically changed. Constantly on the lookout for spies and endless training sessions are enough to drive any teen mad; throw in one of your longest friends treating you like crap and always thinking the worst of you and it makes for one heck of a ride. Let’s not forget forbidden love. This is a wonderful tale of trust, magic, friendship, loss and love. I hope this is not the end of the story as I would love to read more.

I literally just finished this book (it's 4AM) and I just got it yesterday. If that doesn't tell you that you should buy it, well then read the rest of my review.I'll admit...I'm not a huge fan of the paranormal genre. I think the vampire and werewolf thing has been done too many times. This is one of the many reasons why I enjoyed Under a Blood Moon. It's refreshing to read such a unique concept in this genre.Richards' writing style is refined and this is another reason why I enjoyed this book. You can tell that the author put a lot of effort into creating this world among our world.I appreciated that these supernatural teen characters still came with plenty of teen angst. I liked Ava, the main character and was rooting for her the whole time. There were characters that I highly disliked. Richards accomplished what I, as a writer and reader, feel is the most important thing when telling a story...she made me feel. One of my favorite things about books by this author are the details she paints in your mind of the environment. Even if she's just describing the forest, she does it in such a way that you know you're reading quality work. The story was well paced when needed and heart-pounding exciting during the action scenes.I'm looking forward to the second book in this series and I'm glad I don't have to wait too long for it.***I received a FREE copy of this book from the author, in exchange for my honest review, and honestly, I loved it!***

I was given a copy of this book by SN Reviews for an honest review.Under a Blood Moon is the story of a group of 5 friends that are thrown into a 300 year old war that they didn't know existed. Together they are strong, apart not so much. Enter the love triangle and oh boy you have the crazy conflict that could change the group and the world as they know it.First let me ask why on earth am I not currently reading book 2? Haha. Carrigan Richards is an absolutely phenomenal author. Under a Blood Moon hooked me almost instantly. The premise definitely had me fishing around but her writing had me hook line and sinker. The main character is named Ava. At first glance she seems like any normal teenager with a crap boyfriend but underneath she's not. She is an extremely passionate and caring girl. Ava falls in love with a boy who is equally extraordinary. Together they drag you in to a love story like no other. Of course there is also the boyfriend to contend with. With a short fuse and equally powerful ability to be passionate he is a force to be reckoned with. The dialogue between characters as well as within is both witty and well written. During some points I just wanted to jump into the book and shake some of the characters. It's true I was that wrapped up in the story.Overall I absolutely loved the book and cannot wait to start book 2.

I received this book for an honest and fair review. I have to say that this story keeps you intrigued and glued to the pages. I was very happy with this story and it was a very good story of love and sacrifice. Ava Hannigan is a smart girl and loves life, but she is dreading the change that is to occur. She knows she is part of something big with her friends, and has been since she was 7 an Enchanter. All she wants is a normal life with normal friends, but life doesn't work that way. She is bound to the group and has a overprotective boyfriend named Thomas, which she has fallen out of love with. Ava has found a friend she enjoys being with and he makes her feel safe and protected. How can she fall for someone outside her group and can she keep him safe? So many things rest heavily on her shoulder and for her being so young, I think she is a very strong character and love how she is portrayed. The story has soo much in it and you will find yourself wanting to know more and how it unfolds. The characters that are close to her will make you mad and happy for them, and the danger that lurks you can feel it coming through the pages. You need to read this exciting story of love, danger, suspense, and enjoy where the story takes you.

This starts as a story about 6 very gifted children destined to be powerful Elemental Enchanters to fight in an ancient war. The story was a little slow to start but picked up steam and caught my attention enough that I stayed up all night to read it. Its all about the children becoming of age and growing into their powers. The struggles with understanding the good that can be done with their powers and the consequences of misusing them. Ava being the main character learns to conquer her fears of the past and for the future. Slowly she learns that she can not hide from what she is and who she is to become even though she fights it every step of the way. She struggles with what she thinks is expected of her as part of her coven and her relationship with Thomas. Should she follow what is expected of her and stay within her group, or should she risk losing everything for the person she really loves. I look forward to the next book as I know there are more bad guys to catch and still so much more to learn about their special powers and abilities as they grow.

I'm always happy to read a paranormal book, so what I loved most about this is that the wizards have a fresh spin on things. There's so many unique facets to an already, sometimes overdone idea here with the enchanters having elemental gifts and powers. I loved the circles, the bonding, and it was easy to forget that this was a YA novel at times. My only complaint is that there were moments when I felt that the adults were practically useless despite their professed experience and at times this took me out of the moment. Aside from that, it was an absolutely thrilling tail and I peeled through it in nearly 2 nights.

Really enjoyed this book. Can't believe it took me so long to read it. I loved the way all the characters that were named had a purpose in some way. Whether it just be a more important character's friend or the head of the coven. It was easy to settle into the book and lose track or time. Just wish I had been able to sit down and read like I wanted to instead of being constantly called away. The amount of characters would be overwhelming for most books but it works for this one. Everyone has a purpose and everything is connected. It made me so happy the way it ended too! :) I can't wait to read the sequel!!! ^_^

I won this book at a facebook event and I met and talked to Carrigan Richards, I am so glad I won it, It takes you on a ride with young Elementals (witches). The struggles they face, friendships won and lost.. I just love this book. Ava is an awesome female lead. She's a water elemental, she can breathe under water and work with water. This book is just simply amazing I would recommend it to my friends.

Under a Blood Moon was a great read, I loved it! Carrigan Richards was very creative with the world she create within this book! The descriptions were amazing, you can really visualize the places and people through out the story. The characters really brought out emotion from me. There were characters I loved and characters I yelled at, but they all were a great balance for the story. I loved everything about this book and would definitely recommend it.

www.readingbifrost.comMature-Content Rating: Violence, Abuse, Mild Sexual Themes“Xavier Holstone elegantly glided across the white tiled floor with a crooked smile as if he liked that everyone stared at his tanned skin and ash blond hair. His oval face was severe with high cheekbones and a perfectly straight nose. His muscular, but thin, build made a few girls blush, though his dark eyes saw no one as he made his way to an empty table in the back. Ava didn’t really think he was attractive, but there was something dangerous about him.”Under a Blood Moon is the first in a series about a group of teenage Enchanters first gaining their powers and then immediately being thrown into the darkest kind of evil their world knows. The story was intriguing enough to keep me reading all the way till the end, but there were choppy points, plot holes, and plain and simple character screw-ups that had me cringing. To start off, I never did figure out just why the book was given its title. It could be that I missed something, but I usually keep my eyes open for that, and plus the title should be obvious. As I read on I was deep into the plot and the characters, but the relationships between Ava and the others in her coven kept me from developing a strong link with any of them. Jeremy, the only one in the coven I felt like I could connect with, seemed to barely have a part at all. The two really strong characters that held this book together were Peter, Ava’s main love interest, and Xavier, one of the main antagonists. I have to give one complete star just for Xavier, the arrogant jerk that is makes it feel so good to hate. Ava was always quick to figure out the goings-on, but slow to respond if she responded at all. There were many times things could have been prevented if Ava would have just responded correctly to the situation. Likewise, the others in her coven were quick to dismiss her thoughts without any real explanation why. Richards did do a great job of weaving the story of Ava’s mother and father into her own, though. Most of the interaction between Ava and Peter was amusing or sweet or agonizing thanks to Peter’s character that takes control, but near the end of the book there’s a long interaction between the two that can only be described as a Q&A session. Peter asks a question, Ava answers, Peter asks, Ava answers, Peter asks… Richards was trying to relay information to both Peter and the readers quickly, but that little session seemed really fake and bored me.The powers. Oh, the powers! What is a book on magic without interesting powers? This is just the first installment of the series and the teens are just learning what they can do with their magic, but there’s great potential and lots of room for Richards to play with, and hopefully introductions to more coven members with special powers of their own.Overall, Under a Blood Moon is a good, quick paranormal read for those that like magic and elements with a touch of romance between the pages.

The story concept of the book was really good, but the characters ruined it. The teenagers - the young enchanter coven - were flat and boring. Ava was the only one with any sort of personality, and even the not much. Bland is the best word I can think of. She haw two love interests - Thomas, a member of her coven, who's overbearing, hot-headed and violent and Peter, a regular guy who's overbearingly over-protective - and forbidden. Boring. There are four other coven members - two boys, two girls - that I had trouble keeping straight because there was nothing all that interesting about any of them. One of the boys likes books. One of the girls is adopted, but that's not at all important to the story even though it seems like is should be. They could have all died and I wouldn't have batted an eyelash. These boring characters have the same boring conversations with each other over and over - conversations that don't bring anything new to the table. The thing with Ava and Peter on the beach read like a book synopsis. A lot of nothing happens until everything happens all at once. And then there's Savina, who is supposed to be this wise elder, who's already been though one war, but comes across as completely clueless. At best it's like she's not paying attention. I guess you could argue that she was distracted by the possibly impending war, but I wouldn't. All in all, this could have been a pretty good book, but failed miserably.

I bought this book at a book festival and am really glad that I did.Carrigan Richards has done a really good job in writing this story. From page one I was hooked. She takes you into the life of a Enchanter and what it means to be a Elemental Enchanter. When Ava learns she can breath under water she knows the day is coming where her life as she knows it is over. She doesn't want to give up her friend Peter and be with Thomas. On top of that she finds out that Devon is using Humans to make a army. Can her and her friends stop Devon and can she make her coven see that she belongs with Peter instead of Thomas who is so controlling. This is what you will have to read to find out. This book will have you turning the page from the start to see what happens next. You will also be able to connect with Ava an feel for her. This is a good read for teens and adults alike. I highly recommend reading this book. You want regret it!!

I wanted to love this but I felt like the story dragged on a little bit more than it needed to. The romance...actually got tired after awhile. I was, however, a fan of the paranormal/fantasy part of the story and I feel that the last few chapters were pretty great as there was more action. I enjoyed the powers of the enchanters as well. I hope that the momentum of the ending of the novel carries over into part 2.
