2 all for Nick stars.Look...I'm not going to rant, okay? It's tough being a military wife, child, family member, friend, actual member of the military, not everybody can do it...I know that....but I don't want to ever read another story where someone feels about the military the way Sienna did. How can you have your heroes be marines (yes-marines, not soldiers) and then have a main character that clearly does not appreciate the military. It was..frustrating to say the least. And that's me...you know, everyone is entitled to feel how they want and express it, but Idon't want to read another one like this...Nick's only flaw was that he was a soldier? (even though he was really a marine) Really? The military dictating his life, these damn army wives, etc....oh God, I wanted to smack her. Mostly because...her issues weren't acutally with the military...it was her douchebag of a husband...I'm ranting, aren't I? I said I wouldn't. Look, overall, Nick--awesome character...loved him. The little plot aside from the romance, okay, I can dig it. Honestly, with the writing and stuff that was going on, I could totally have seen this getting more like 4 stars...but damn...not only are you hating on the military but you're confusing the branches, too.Sienna? Nick...seriously man, you could do better. Much better. I would read more from this author if she in no way mentiones the military, and she finds a decent female character.

Nick was such a darling and I don't think he deserves Sienna. She totally ruined the book. She is not only stupid and death husband is another douche.Anyway, if I start ranting, I will not stop....Just sad that I love military read, and this book ruined everything!I really think military writing is not meant for the author.**ARC provided for honest review**

I really enjoyed this story. This is told in two points of view- Nick and Sienna. Sienna is a really remarkable, strong woman. This story starts when her husband Rob dies. Her heads a mess when the secrets of her husbands life comes out. Nick is a totally brilliant soldier. He's been in love with Sienna for years. The author did a fantastic job in showing the raw love that Nick has for Sienna. I'm not going to say much more as I don't want to spoil it for anyone. I've not read anything by this author before but I'll certainly be changing that. This story has a great storyline with two brilliant main characters. A must read.

I really liked the characters in the book and I think the story was pretty well written. I also think the storyline was great but there was one big flaw that kept confusing me. The Marines and Army are two separate branches of the military. Rob and Nick are both Marines but Sienna keeps talking about the Army life. Even in the synopsis it talks about the Army life. I thought maybe they were stationed on an army base but I could never really tell. I'm not sure if I'm missing something but being a former Army wife, I know there is a big difference. So maybe if the all the "Army life" references were changed to "military life" it wouldn't be so confusing. Just a thought. Other than that, really good story!

An intense and sexy story of two people with off-the-charts sexual chemistry. He's the kind of alpha every woman, including myself, would love to have in their life. He knows what he wants and doesn't stop till he gets it. A really great story that'll be sure to get you hot and bothered. By the way, whoever that male specimen is gracing the book cover is absolutely, unequivocally smoking HOT!

I can't even finish reading this book. What a waste. What kind of author doesn't do research before and while writing a book? Practically every paragraph she's calling the husband a soldier, Marine, or referring to herself as being an army wife. I'm sorry? Did you think they were one in the same? They. Are. Not. Don't ever call a Marine a soldier, and vice versa. Army are soldiers, Marines are Marines. Oorah! Got it? I got to page 18 before I had to call it quits. The constant military bashing had me wanting to stop reading, confusing the branches had me wanting to DNR the author.

DNF @ 48%He’s like an addiction, I think. A weakness in me. I don’t want him but I need him.I tried, I really did, but I couldn’t get into it at no fault to the story line or the author. This was all me, I am such a moody reader that it probably wasn’t the right time for me to read it, who knows… I may give it another chance later on.

A nice romantic suspenseThis story was very good. Siena was a woman who just lost her soldier husband and was determined to be independent and strong. Nick has been a great friend to both her and her husband but who has always wished he had had the foresight to have asked her out first. This story has action, suspense and a whole lot of sexiness. The book is enjoyable.

Alternating first person POVs between the h and H, though the H's didn't feel very masculine (even though he's a marine). The author would have him think something very poetic and sweet, and then try to make it more masculine by having him think that "the guys" would give him grief if they knew he'd thought that. Nth at might have worked once, but repeatedly? It just felt artificial. Also he constantly thought about how strong the heroine was, even though she didn't feel that way. It was almost as if the author hoped that we'd believe it if the hero told us enough times without her having to show it.The book felt like a military wife's attempt at writing down her issues for a therapy session. It got old. And the ending. Wow. How unrealistic can it get. (view spoiler)[ the H gets shot, and it goes through. The h, a nurse, and the bad guys think he's dead. They leave him on the ground for a while, then carry him up to a ship. He is bleeding this entire time. Finally, after he's left to bleed out some more, the h realizes he's not dead and dresses his wound. Upon which time he's ready to spring into action and punches out a bad guy. Really? After all that blood loss??? I guess he really is superman.(hide spoiler)]. And a character is introduced late in the book to create yet another opportunity for the h to backslide and (view spoiler)[ reject the H.(hide spoiler)] But nothing more is heard about this character. No closure on that front. The writing wasn't too bad, though the editing seems to have gotten careless later in the book. Maybe the editors were feeling the same malaise as I did; I almost didn't bother finishing. The book went on too long. Between the h's wishy-washiness and the anemic bad guy plot device, it was irritating. Also, the H was supposed to be totally in love with the h, but he admits at the very beginning that he stayed loyal to his BFF, her husband, no matter how horribly the husband treated her. At first he tries to defend it by saying he wouldn't break up the marriage because would never be sure if he was doing it for her or for himself. Who cares??? It was a terrible marriage, and the husband treated her horribly - even if the H didn't know the worst of it. And yet the H knew the rumors about the husband, but still didn't think it was worth stopping the marriage. Or warning the h??? And he claims it was for the h's protection??? How??? And later in the book he says that he no longer liked the husband? It just seemed very inconsistent.Anyway, at first I thought the book was pretty well-written, even if it used the device of the first person POV to have the characters dump information through their thoughts rather than show us. But as the book went on, the contrivances got worse, I got bored, and my opinion declined.

A Hot, Sexy and Suspenseful Read!Samantha Holt writes fabulous medieval romances and she has now produced her first full length contemporary romance in Not Another Soldier. Once again she has penned a super sensual read, simmering with sexual tension and hot love making scenes, in a plot containing strong characters, danger and suspense. The book is a fantastic read, with an exciting but credible plot, characters who you can believe in and great pacing which maintained my interest throughout. As with all Samantha Holt’s writing sexual tension oozes from the page whenever the hero and heroine appear together and the love making scenes are sexy, sensual and sublime. The novel is written in the first person and whole chapters are recounted either from the POV of Sienna or Nick. I felt that this gave the novel a more contemporary feel and also worked well as it allowed the reader to get into the minds and the motivations of the two main characters and view the different scenes through their eyes. The element of suspense and danger in the novel certainly added to my enjoyment. I feel that this author has found another sub genre of romance in which she can showcase her writing talents.Oh and I absolutely ADORED Nick! He is loyal and honourable and above all single minded in his determination to protect Sienna and to overcome her doubts to ensure that they have a future together. I liked that he was honest with her about his feelings, and whilst respecting her views he never gives up on her and takes every opportunity he is presented with to foster a physical and emotional bond between them. A determined Alpha male, with a heart of gold, is just SO SEXY! He is conscious of the injury to his leg that he sustained whilst serving for his country but loves Sienna even more for the fact that she neither pities him nor puts him on a pedestal for it. Sienna has been through a lot during her marriage and her self-confidence has been eroded. Despite this she is a strong and sassy character. Her attraction to Nick, which she finds impossible not to succumb to, wars with her determination to maintain her independence and she feels that everything is happening too quickly. If you like your contemporary romances to be sensual and contain strong characters and an element of suspense then this is definitely a read that you should consider. I expect that readers who are already fans of Samantha Holt’s historical romances will enjoy her foray into contemporary romance as well as readers of contemporary romances who are new to her work. I sincerely hope that she will be writing more full length contemporary romances.A copy of this novel was given to me by the author for the purpose of a fair and honest review.

Book Worms was given this book as an ARC for an honest review. We gave this book 5 stars. This book review was left by Melissa Lemons a Book Worms reviewer. Thank you Melissa.Synopsis -Sienna Wright has just buried her soldier husband. While she waited for the soldiers to come to her door to tell her that her husband died in combat, it was the police telling her it was because he was drunk. Now what does she do, she had planned to leave her husband and try to gain some of the self respect that she lost because her husband had a dark side and even after death that dark side is seeping into her life.Nick Jackson, hot, alpha-male best friend of the now deceased but currently in love with Sienna and probably always has been. He wants to make her see that not all men are like the db of her ex-husband and that he is willing to help her heal from her broken marriage.Sienna isn't sure that she can love a soldier again and Nick is not sure he can live without Sienna. Will they push each other past their own issues to see what's been in front of them the whole time. Read to find out.My take -I loved this book. I will give this book 5 stars. Sienna has every right to be weary because of her marriage and the fact that things happen after her husbands burial that has her on edge. Nick has always been the friend that was there to pick up his best friends wife from the sadness that he knew she had from her husband. I liked how these two were best friends and had known each for years. The attraction they had was felt in the writing.I love Samantha Holts writing. I think she does an incredible job with showing how people feel and it's not all about the sex but let me say that the sex was yummy too. This book was a great one book read with no cliff hanger and it was very worth reading.

Where to start this review.... I made the mistake of checking out some of the reviews first hand before reading it and I say MISTAKE because it received a lot of 1 or 2 stars and a lot of DNF. But I really liked the synopsis and I loved the cover so I went and stalked the author and found out the book was written from a British Military wife and then I understood why people were so pissed off because the British Military is different then the U.S. Military. The names and the branches are so different and with that in mind I started reading the book and loved it! I mean I really loved it. My heart broke because there was so much going on.Sienna seems to have it all. She has a loving husband who is in the military and she has a best friend who is in the military with her husband. But behind closed doors Sienna is suffering from mental and physical abuse at the hands of her husband Rob. In public they give a good picture of a perfect couple but behind doors she is secretly planning on divorcing Rob. Then one morning she gets the knock on her door no military wife wants and she is told her husband is dead. At first Sienna feels nothing but guilt because she was going to divorce him but then she realizes she is free. She will no longer have to suffer from the abuse and can move on and start a fresh life. As she is mourning her husband she finds out that her husband was in some not so nice things and now she is in danger and there is only one person she can turn to and that is her best friend Nick. As she and Nick get closer though she is having second thoughts about being with him because he is still a military man but when he gets hurt she is there for him and she will have to decide if risking her heart is worth it.

Not a bad story. Sienna was too stubborn sometimes which really drove me crazy. I did like that Nick was not your standard romance novel hottie. Nick was injured in the army which meant he had to struggle with overcoming his leg injury. He felt pity from other women which made it difficult to find someone. I liked that he had his flaws which made him appear to me as a real person with possible real issues.

I really enjoyed this book, had trouble putting it down so I could go to sleep!!! Sienna and Nick have a lot of chemistry and they deny it because of Sienna's dead husband and Nick's best friend, Rob. Sienna is an army wife who is lost and because she chose the wrong man, she wanted out of military like. Nick wants Sienna to take a chance on him and Military life again and he tries everything to change her mind. Together, these two lovers find that they put too much effort into being faithful to a husband/best friend who didn't deserve their loyalty.

**JOSIE'S REVIEW**So I am a proud military mother of a US Marine and that is why I jumped at the opportunity to read Not Another Soldier. This was a fast and enjoyable read with all the elements that I love…military men, alpha male, danger, thrills and really steamy sex scenes…yep SOLD!!! I was not disappointed and happy that the author wrote a book that held my interest from the first page until the last page, while having me hot and scared at the same time.To the outside Sienna had it all. She is the wife of a US Marine (Rob), her husband adores her and she is best friends with Rob’s best friend Nick. But once the front door closes, she is abused physically by her husband. When she decides to confront Rob about his cheating, things get out of hand and he leaves. While he gone she is planning to get a divorce. One night she gets news that Rob has died in a car accident while drinking and driving. Sienna is torn between feeling guilty because she wanted a divorce but also relieved that she is now FREE, little did she know things were about to change. She is happy that she will get to leave the military lifestyle behind her. She will no longer be abused and can be happy. She can once again be the person she was before her marriage. All through this process, she slowly finds out some nasty things about what was really going on in her husband’s life. Nick and Sienna have always been attracted to each other but never acted on it because of Rob. The more time they spend together, makes Sienna more wary of losing her best friend. She is worried because of his career choice and what she is not good for him. She also wants to be independent and not rely on another man.“Rob may have been my best friend but he never treated you right, never deserved you. If you were mine, I would work every day to make you smile. I would never treat you that way he did.”NICK, WOW NICK, I LOVE HIM!!! He is a total alpha male, and he has been in love with Sienna for years. He is so protective of Sienna, but also caring and strong for the both of them. He is sensitive enough to give Sienna space when she asks for it but also strong enough to let her know that he is going to fight for them. “I’m willing to do whatever it takes to convince you, Sienna. You and me. This is it. The Real Deal. You’re not going anywhere, babe.”“I don’t want to, but I can’t make promises. I want to but I’m still finding my feet here. I’m just not sure I can give much right now.”“Take all you want. I don’t care. I’ll take what I can get, Sienna, but just so you know, I will fight for us. I’m not going to make this easy on you.”Nick thought he knew what went on in Rob and Sienna’s marriage but when the truth came out, it only strengthened his resolve to keep Sienna. Whenever Sienna put up those walls he was only too happy to tear them down. When things start to get dangerous he goes all alpha Marine male!!“What happened, Sienna? How did you get that mark on your neck? No One will hurt you again, I promise.”When these two finally get together, we are talking fireworks. The author managed to throw in some steamy sex scenes despite the danger that was lurking. I was stuck in between being scared and hot.“F**k Sienna, you are too damned beautiful. You have no idea how often I’ve thought of you like this but, I swear to God, I didn’t know……I didn’t know you’d be this incredible. Sienna, I’ve been thinking about this for too long. I want it to last.”“Nick, oh God, don’t make me wait.”“I could survive on just you. I don’t need anything but you. Just you, Sienna.”Overall, I thought this book was a great read. Once again if you are into alpha males, danger with steamy hot sex on the side, look no further this is the book for you. You will laugh, cry, scream, hoot and holler but in the end it is all worth it.I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a very laid back and easy to follow read. Aside from a few minor editing mistakes writing style was good and had a nice, relaxed flow. For the most part this plot was realistic, often times a little too realistic for me, in other words, too "normal" or slightly boring even though that seems a harsh word as it was mostly enjoyable.Character development was a little on the lax side, but the interactions between our H/h were entertaining and had a very natural feel. Their different personality traits definitely complimented each other and you can tell from reading that the author has personal experience with the ins and outs of military life. Her descriptions and explanations of that were spot on which added to the overall "realistic" feel of the story. There were a few things I didn't like, such as the fact when we ventured inside our H/h heads and their feelings towards each other the descriptions were always the same (especially on Nick's side), I have no problems with characters reiterating their confusion or feelings on a specific topic or another character, especially as in this case, one that is key to the plot but find alternatively creative ways to express the same thing...quit using the same phrase word-for-word as it gets boring. It wasn't excessive by any means but it did happen enough for me to notice and then to become annoyed with it. Secondly, there were some minor holes in the plotline, again, nothing drastic but enough for me to sit there and go..."hey wait a minute!". Maybe the average reader wouldn't catch those but for me, as someone who reads a lot of romantic thriller and mystery I know how things tend to operate on the inside and I know some of the things that happened in the plotline wouldn't have been allowed to slip had this been in real life.Thirdly, I have to mention the authors use of cheesy cop-outs during Nick and Sienna's inner musings. The whole "I know it sounds cliche" or "I'm not a poet or anything" excuses that they make for their cheesy feeling comparisons are just that...cheesy and cliche, so spare me if you can't think of a more creative or individual way to say things. Those excuses do nothing but annoy me. If you are gonna use cliche or cheesy explanations to have your characters express themelves fine, but OWN IT then and don't point it out or draw unnecessary attention to it.Lastly is not even a very good point but just my personal preference. I'm one that likes the action scenes, I enjoy the hand to hand combat and I like gun play. I'm not going to blame this book for not having that as it has more of a "short and sweet" theme going so I think the author left most out on purpose but I would've loved to see the action scenes from Nick's point of view instead of Sienna's and I would've liked them to be a little longer as well. Other than those few minor things the story overall was enjoyable for me. It was easy going, steady paced and very sweet. It would make a great choice for anyone who likes reading about military but enjoys it without all the action and excitement of thrillers

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.Something I found rather intriguing about NOT ANOTHER SOLDIER was that it doesn't take that long to read. I tended to read it in short bursts, lasting around 20 minutes-40 minutes or so each time. But every time I was like, hey, I've just read 15%-20% of this book! Sweet!I enjoyed Sienna and Nick's relationship quite a bit. It is realistic. There are plenty of ups and downs, hot moments, fights, cries, etc. Holt did her best to make her characters as real as possible. Sienna tears herself apart throughout the novel, even going as far as calling herself a horrible bitch. "I'm such a bitch. A dumb, horrible bitch."The head hopping was a big con for me. Nick and Sienna's point of views switch often, usually within a chapter. I thought Sienna was the stronger of the two narratives but found myself enjoying Nick's rather brief view's more. Nick was definitely the book boyfriend to watch out for in this novel. Tattoos, military, muscles, protective... this might be just me but a sexy limp... Yep.ETA: I usually do not go back and make huge additions to my reviews after they are posted. But the author posted something relevant about NOT ANOTHER SOLDIER, and gave me permission to post it my review. Many reviewers, mostly American, complained about the military terms used in NOT ANOTHER SOLDIER. Mainly that in the novel Nick is a marine yet he was called a soldier (just take a peek at the title), and that Sienna considered herself an 'army' wife. I did notice this too, but I decided to ignore it because the author is from Britain and is a wife of a ex-military man. The military branches are different over in the UK than in the US. But these reviewers were quite loud and gave NOT ANOTHER SOLDIER an one star just because of the misunderstanding of these terms. Holt has now responded about the issue in her blog. The rundown is that the ebook of NOT ANOTHER SOLDIER will be changed so Nick is no longer a marine. To learn more from the author about the decision, please visit her blog.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Sienna is a military wife. She’s forced to bury her husband, Rob, before she could leave the abusive marriage. Her husband didn’t die in the line of duty. No, he died in a car crash, he was drunk. Sienna tried for five years to make her marriage work. She endured the cheating and verbal abuse. The minute the abuse turned physical, she decided to leave. She is determined to never have another relationship with a military man.Nick was Rob’s best friend. He’s been in love with Sienna forever. He’s known that Rob treated Sienna horribly, but he didn’t know how bad Rob treated her. He’s ecstatic that he’ll finally have his chance with Sienna.Rob is a Marine. He’s Sienna’s husband. He was raised in foster homes. Rob only wanted Sienna because he knew Nick wanted her. Rob won the girl, he married Sienna. Once he had her, he treated her horribly. He cheated and controlled everything in their relationship. Rob drank excessively and dealt drugs. After Rob’s funeral, strange incidents start to occur. First, Sienna is almost accosted by a man. Next, her car is impounded for drug trafficking. Then her apartment is broken into. Why is this happening to Sienna? Are they all related? Will Nick be able to protect Sienna? Will he be able to change her mind about military men?I really enjoyed this story. It was easy to read and fast-paced. I loved the action. I loved that Nick was so determined to get Sienna to give him a chance. His thinking and plan to get her made me chuckle at times. I hated that Sienna became jaded about military life due to a bad marriage. I was frustrated that Sienna didn’t take the attacks seriously. I mean, come on, her husband was a drug dealer and all of a sudden she’s being attacked and her apartment is broken into, but she didn’t seem to realize the incidents were all related. I was also confused at times because the Marines and the Army were often interchanged. Overall, an enjoyable read.4-BombsReviewed by Tracy

Sienna Wright has just become an ex-military wife. Her husband Rob was killed, not in active duty, but in an accident. There to help her through is her husband's best friend and fellow Marine, Nick Jackson. Nick has been harboring feelings for Sienna from the day she met her husband. Although he wants to be a friend, his ambition is to make her his-- like she should have been from the beginning.Having come through a crappy marriage, Sienna just wants to figure out who she is again and find herself and her independence. She moves off base and into her own place. That's where the action starts. Sienna finds out her recently deceased husband was involved in some pretty risky business and now there are people after her. Of course Nick is there to help her, but their relationship or lack thereof keeps getting in their way. Sienna and Nick spend a lot of time doing the horizontal lambada in this book. Nick can't keep his hands off of her and she's just as bad. The sex scenes aren't drawn out or overly poetic, however, which I liked.Keep in mind, plus/minus mileage may vary:-: I did have a little trouble with the flow of the story. It seemed like a lot of, as they say in the military, "hurry up and wait", which would be typical in their situation. Like a real life danger situation, once you think it's all clear, you find out you're in over your head again. There was a lot of nookie and Nick is slightly possessive+: I really enjoyed this story and it kept me turning pages. Nick and Sienna are adorably cute together. I was rooting for Nick through the whole thing. I'm rarely a fan of alpha types, but Nick wasn't an ass about being in charge and I LOVED that. While he was possessive and protective, he let Sienna be a real human being. The epilogue is super sweet.I enjoyed Not Another Soldier. It was descriptive instead of telling like many books I've read lately. I was enveloped in the story instead of feeling like a bored bystander.

I was lucky enough to be given this copy by the author and Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock, for a fair and honest review.Sienna had been an Military wife for 5 years, and she has just buried her husband, Rob. Her best friend, Nick, is also Rob's friend and a Marine. There is chemistry between Sienna and Nick, that cannot be denied, but the timing is all wrong. Sienna is right to feel guilty. But then things spiral out of control, and Sienna and Nick find themselves in a situation that neither saw coming.I enjoyed this book. I was given it blind, and had no idea what the book was about, so a complete surprise. The story moves at a fair pace, with twists and turns that you are given hints at along the way but takes a while to come together. The characters are believable and likable. I particularly liked the way Holt describes Sienna's reaction to Nick kissing her, at her husband's funeral. Not appropriate, but dealt with beautifully. Some sex, well written though, and not at all corny, to me anyway! Nick's reaction to being wounded at war is also well dealt with. What I didn't like was the tense it was written in. I am not a fan of first person, present tense, and have been known to not even bother reading past the first bit. But as I got into the book, it didn't notice it so much. It also flipped between Nick and Sienna, the differences are noted, with their name at each change, so its not confusing. It was just that sometimes it flipped between the two within the same chapter, and I don't think that was needed. There was a great deal of soul searching, and while the characters were in touch with their feelings, at some points I skimmed over these bits. Not a bad read, but whether I would read any more of this author?? I can't say no, but can't say yes, either.

What a cute story. The characters are well developed and very likeable. I just could not help but to root for their HEA. Samantha Holt did a great job with this story and she did a pretty great job explaining what it is like to be a member of a military family. Sienna was in a bad marriage with Rob and planning to get a divorce when her Husband dies in a car accident. Rob is a great military man but as a husband he drops the ball. Her time as a military wife was difficult and hard to handle or to adjust to for her. She was always worried about her husband not that he deserved her worry and as it turns out war is not what eventually ends his life it is a car accident. Nick is the great guy in the "friend zone" when it comes to Sienna. Because she was married to his best friend there is nothing he can do about it except be the best friend he can be to them both. As honorable as he is noble he falls in love with Sienna but does nothing about it. When Rob dies Nick is there for Sienna and continues to play the roll as her friend. When they both realize there was a dark side to Rob but who was good enough to not drag her into it while he was alive but after he died she became the target and she has no idea why. This book is the journey of two people who belong together but need to overcome the past in order to do that. Will Sienna realize what Nick has been telling her all along is right in time to salvage their budding relationship. No one is perfect and situations can make things worse but when you find the one anything is possible.I was given ARC for an honest review.

Not Another Soldierby: Samantha HoltSienna is a woman swept off her feet in a whirlwind romance with a charismatic soldier. She marries Rob but feels as though she has never fit in to the military life. Her five year marriage begins to crumble and she begins to feel like one of his possessions. Rob is killed in an accident right before Sienna has the chance to leave him. She now is not only dealing with the loss of her husband but a web of lies and deceit come to light. She also begins to feel as though she is being followed.Nick had been Rob's best friend since they were children. They had done everything together until recently. They began to drift apart. It was difficult for Nick to stay but he has always loved Sienna and had regretted not getting to her before Rob. He has watched over the years as their relationship deteriorated and stayed close to support her as a friend. Nick realizes that after Rob's death Sienna needs him more than ever. They have always had a beautiful spark and chemistry between them. He now wants more but is afraid to push her in the delicate state she is in. Nick is a beautiful man inside and out, he is a protector and a wonderful example of a sensitive alpha male. Sienna begins to feel that her life is steaming out of control and she is loosing control of her emotions. She begins to feel guilty for the feelins that she is having toward Nick. She has vowed never to fall for another soldier, but can she stop herself. It is a beautiful story with well written characters, passionate love scenes and a bit of mystery and suspense added to the mix. I will certainly be reading more of Samantha's work! ~~Michele~~

I want to love every book I read. Sadly, this doesn’t always happen and such was the case with Not Another Soldier. The outline sounds great. But for me the content isn’t so great. Our heroine, Sienna, is a recent widow. Her husband was a Marine who died in a car accident when he was under the influence. He was a Very Bad Man. We are constantly being hit over the head with this. Nick was the best friend of Rob, as well as a good friend to Sienna. He’s been waiting in the background, aware that Rob had been a terrible husband, but Nick has strong feelings for Sienna and she for him.Why this didn’t work – hmm, here’s the first one. They start making out on the day of the funeral. I know, it was a very bad marriage and she was going to leave him anyway, but for the most part I have difficulty when the heroine moves from one relationship to another way too soon – and on the day of the funeral is just tacky. And things didn’t really get better. I found both of them kind of stupid and this a death knell for me when both are stupid. There are Evil Drug people after Sienna because of Evil First Husband. Instead of going to the cops (though they themselves come across as rather Keystone like) Sienna and Nick try to solve the puzzle while at the same time Sienna is being pulled by the Very Hot Sex, but she can’t marry another soldier, but the Sex is So Hot And on and on it goes. And they stay clueless and she stays on the teeter totter all the way through the book.I finished it, that’s a plus, but I didn’t really enjoy the ride. The main reason was to score another book read for the challenge and I was glad to finish this one up and move on.

I am a sucker for a good book with a military man and this one did not disappoint. Sienna Wright has just buried her husband, Rob, who was a soldier and she has only one person who she can lean on, Nick Jackson. Nick is a soldier too but he has been on desk duty ever since he suffered a serious injury during his last deployment. He was Rob’s best friend at one time but he and Sienna had become best friends during her marriage to Rob. Nick has been in love with Sienna for a long time but he knew he could never act on those feelings as long as Sienna was married, even when he could see the sadness in Sienna’s eyes from her marriage. Now there is nothing standing in the way of the sparks that are flying between these two. I loved the way the author portrayed these characters. Sienna was so strong, even though she was going through hell with the mess her husband had left behind she did not let her circumstances defeat her, she fought back. Nick was freaking hot as hell but he was also sweet and charming at the same time. He knew that he loved Sienna and he knew that she wanted him but he also knew that he had to give her the space and time she needed to make her own decision. I found myself rooting for this couple from the very first chapter. I wanted to see these two get their happy ever after. I really enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to reading more from Samantha Holt. I love the way she showed so many emotions throughout this entire book. I give this one 5 stars!!!!!!!

I was gifted with a copy of this book for an honest review and all I can say is WOW! I love a guy in uniform but Nick takes it to a whole different level. Samantha Holt did an amazing job writing this book. It is filled with romance, drama, and humor. She really captures both sides of being a military wife. She shows how some woman can cope with everything and others who really struggle. It seemed to me that she stayed really true to the emotions that a military wife can go through and some of the things that they go through. The fact that you get both Nick and Sienna's point of view really makes you understand both characters on a deeper level.Sienna has to struggle with the fact that she lost herself while in the marriage to her late husband Rob. She thinks that in order to find herself she needs to be alone and stand on her own two feet. As you follow her through the story you can see her slowly starting to find herself and realize that she is stronger than she thought.Nick was Rob's best friend and has a growing friendship with Sienna. He was injured while he was deployed and Sienna was the only one that didn't treat him differently. He has always wanted Sienna and felt the need to protect her. He knows what he wants and he goes after it always.Nick and Sienna are both great lead characters and to watch their relationship go through it's ups and downs will keep you turning pages to the very end. This is a must read!Reviewed by Melonie

Not Another Soldier by Samantha HoltSamantha Holt never disappoints – whether she is writing historical romance or contemporary romance. This is the story of a woman, married and widowed to a soldier, who never felt as though she fit into the military wife’s role. While we always salute our military heros and their wives, we do often forget that some women struggle with the lifestyle (constant moving, military housing, loneliness, etc). The author does a brilliant job of helping us understand Sienna's feelings of inadequacy, when it comes to being a military wife, without in any way disparaging the role. In this story, Sienna is burying her husband and dealing with the guilt of knowing that her marriage had been over long before his death. Their best friend, Nick, has loved Sienna for years, silently keeping these feelings to himself. As they grow closer, Sienna has to deal with the feelings of loving Nick but wondering if she can take on the lifestyle of a military wife again. Mix into this poignant love story, the author adds in the drama of danger for Sienna as she finds out that her former husband was involved in illegal activities that are coming back on her now that he is gone. As with all of Samantha Holt’s novels, it is well written, with beautiful dialog. Nick is an alpha male that is super kind and loving and Sienna is a strong female trying to discover what she needs out of life.
