Coyote Jack and the Bluebirds Reviews
“Coyote Jack and the Bluebirds” is a unique story, a suspenseful comedy that follows a small-time English blues group on the day leading up to their performance with Texan superstar Coyote Jack. One by one, however, things begin to go wrong. One of the group’s members fears that her husband is cheating on her. Another gets lost. Another has his own agenda for the big night. And just where is this Coyote Jack? Through all of these setbacks, the group only manages to pull through because of their belief in the power and importance of traditional blues.I’m not a blues fan myself, but it didn’t take long for me to become thoroughly enraptured by the struggles and misadventures of these characters. The story is told almost in real time and bounces between the perspectives of each of the major characters, with all of the characters and their goals and motivations for the night lovingly brought to life. The book has a strong message about sticking by your friends and by your art even through the toughest of times so that you can come away better for it. There are a lot of books out there that feature really cheesy depictions of musicians, but this is thankfully not one of them. This is a quality story, well worth the read to anyone. Would highly recommend.
A nice piece of mind popcorn with more than a few great turns of phrase.
An interesting story with lots of twists and turns based on a band, a spotlight singer, and a young man with lots of big dreams.
