Nice twist! When the world is turning against you, throw it to the ground and step on its neck. That's Proper Advice. :)Right? What could go wrong with this plan? lolI also love the exploration of Eren's abilities. It's about time they did some real experimentation. Muahahaha...

I can't stop reading. I want to know what is going to happen next. So much plotting and so many secrets to be revealed. I also started the anime just to have a reminder of what happened in the beginning and it's just as good.

So now, the titan theory. (view spoiler)[Humans can somehow be turned into titans and that's why Connie's whole village was empty with no remains or even signs of a struggle. Mm hmm. Ok. (hide spoiler)]The Squad Levi scenes where they're all making house was a bit tone deaf. I realize they can't be fighting and running for their lives constantly but these scenes of "normal life" just were ... weird. Trying to insert levity at this point in the story just seemed like a way to fill pages.Quickly after though, we find out (view spoiler)[the Wallist dude was tortured and murdered by MPS, (hide spoiler)] and we're finally starting to get into the secrets the higher ups have kept from the masses. We also learn Krista's backstory and a new girl gets introduced that both Eren and Krista have memories of. Very curious to see who she is. Bunch of schemes are hatched and some of them work while others don't. This was a pretty plot-heavy volume which, yay, because pages after page after page of messy titan fights gets boring.

Things I like about Attack on Titan:• The anime’s theme song is incredible. I jam out to it while studying, walking the dog, cooking dinner, etc.• Those uniforms are a cosplayer’s dream. Been to a con lately? You’ll see enough Scout Regiment soldiers to fight off an actual titan.• Subversion of gender roles. • Erwin Smith is totally unphased by whatever hellish situation he finds himself in. Sometimes, when I need to appear powerful and confident, I impersonate Commander Erwin. Works surprisingly well.Things I dislike about Attack on Titan:• Sadly, Goodreads reviews have a character count.Actual storytelling in Attack on Titan is… rare. Almost nonexistent. Like pandas. If you cut the inner monologues and panels of characters looking shocked, each manga volume would be four pages long. Did we forget that crucial exposition scene that explains what the heck is going on here? Oops! Just cram a flashback into the middle of the action! Important plotlines like the key in the Shinganshina basement... we'll just forget about that for ten volumes at a time. Plot progression in Attack in Titan is nonexistent, as each arc ends in a Pyrrhic victory and is then discarded. On a similar note, let’s talk about some of those big reveals. Some (like the identity of the Female Titan) make absolutely no sense and have never been explained. Some (the identity of the Colossal and Armored Titans) are so ridiculous they made me laugh hysterically. Boom! He’s a titan! And she’s a titan! Everyone’s a titan! (To be sung to the tune of "Everything is Awesome" from the LEGO movie) How did Character X become a titan? What motivates Character Y to betray humanity? Logistically, how are these human titans organized by brainless, man-eating lumps of flesh? And how did the Female Titan get from Wall Sina to the 57th Expedition without anyone noticing? Can she apparate? Are we actually inside the Wizarding World?Attack on Titan might be meaningful if we saw actual characters. Instead... Eren has rage. Levi is tough. Erwin is cool. Armin is smart. Mikasa is so bland that she might erase herself. It is impossible to get swept up in their struggles, to feel any sort of pain when they are devoured, because they are as simple and lifeless as the Titans themselves. When a major twist happens, I have to remember who that character is (Christa…? She’s that chick who finds Jean’s horse, right? And Berthold? Have we ever seen him before? I think he might have said ‘Yes, sir’ somewhere during the battle against the Female Titan). The anime has the same flaws, but it is freaking gorgeous. Sometimes their shots look like live action. Sometimes their shots look better than live action. So when everything in the anime goes to hell, just watch the pretty scenery. Not possible in the manga. On top of all the other flaws, it’s just sloppy. Compare Attack on Titan to, say, a volume by CLAMP. Warning: Attack on Titan will look like scribbles on a restaurant napkin.

After last few vol's which were full of action, it was nice to get a break. This volume was definitely a lot slower that the rest, but it was still interesting. I also really enjoyed the political aspect of the story. Can't wait to read the next one, and hopefully FINALLY GET SOME ANSWERS!!!

Politics, experiments and flashbacks. These points sum up this volume. I liked the change in the tone: not fighting titans but fighting government. And also there were some funny moments in this volume, which is a rare thing. But overall, this manga develops rather slowly and not getting answers to my questions is driving me insane.

Can we just move the plot along a little faster? Maybe have some development that actually relates to the main conflict? Maybe even, oh I don't know, have Eren pull his head out of his ass and realize that, gee, dad left me a key to a secret lab, and maybe there are some answers there? I'm getting tired of waiting for this series to actually make progress, instead of just creating a million and two subplots that never fully seem to connect. Some of these subplots have immense potential and add a lot of interest, but are just swept under the rug by the main characters, even though they seem crucially important to the problems at hand. Isayama introduces a few interesting concepts, like the plot point with Connie's village, and then just buries them in senseless political "intrigue" without giving any hint as to why these people are so interested in Eren and Krista in the first place. And then to just drop random dreams into key characters and have them dismiss those panels immediately as "just a dream?" It's not drawing me into the story or keeping me interested in what might happen next - it's just making me frustrated. The series needs more focus, before it gets stuck trying to be too many things at once. The highlights of this volume came from the little bits of humor dropped along the way, and basically everything Levi did and said. Other than that, this was a pretty mediocre addition to what started out as a great series.

StoryOnce again very few answers, and in fact way more new questions. So why 4 stars? Mostly because Levi is awesome. I'm really hoping that he'll pick up the pace soon though.Artwork Once again the still frames look good and the action scenes are pretty terrible. I'm very happy to hear they are starting production on season 2 because this is a series that works much better as an anime in my opinion.

I don't wanna say the story's losing steam, but political intrigue really isn't Isayama's strong suit.

Chapter 51 Rating: 4.5*Chapter 52 Rating: 5*Chapter 53 Rating: 5*Chapter 54 Rating: 5*Overall Rating: 4.875*I love the direction this one takes for the story. It shifts from a bloodbath to a game of politics and as a political science major, it gets my juices flowing. There are three key moments in this one for me: 1. Eren eats a house; 2. Sasha goes all Katniss Everdeen and shoots an arrow through a gun; 3. Levi bargains for tea. I don't want to say too much more for fear of spoiling things. However, I do really like what we are learning about Krista and I think there is still much more to figure out about her and her family. I also really like that she tells Eren she isn't a good person and Eren is all "yeah well I didn't like you before, you were creepy" because that part was great. I also like that Hange is set to take over for Erwin's position rather than Levi because I think Hange makes better decisions under pressure than he does. There are so many pieces in motion right now and I am just so excited to continue (and reread again).

Man, will any of these not break my jaw from laughing and shock? It was such a great thing the comic relief was back in this volume, having a flashback of those good ol' training days. These characters and their interactions and personalities just makes this series so fun and exciting.I really am loving the direction this series is going. So many plot twists, so many answers, but many more questions. O.OSeriously this series is amazing, the last couple of volumes have been freaking incredible and the character and world development are just sgsdwejdhlkjWhy haven't you picked up volume 1?Also, my baby Levi sass is just on point.

Much better than the last few volumes. :) I love the action and all, but it was nice to see more of a plot again instead of just pages and pages of fighting. I'm loving how much the story is growing again, adding to the whole mystery of krista/historia. There were even a couple of funny moments and sad moments tossed in. Love Sasha. ;) all in all, a very satisfying entry into a fantastic series. I highly recommend "attack on titan" if you like manga. :D

They're going in a more political arc, in this volume... I was kinda confused at first, and I thought the volume was a bit.... long (not in pages but idk how to explain it).Whatever. I have one thing to say : I love Levi. :')

I'm glad I finally got to reading the manga. It's super awesome! Mostly because I decided to start off where the anime's second season left off, so everything is really new and exciting. So, here's some thoughts!- I was so happy to see the squad back together. I love when the main characters all unite and stay together for a while; it's so calming for my brain. Like, sometimes all the characters split up and everything's a hot mess, so when they all come together, I just love it.- It's hilarious seeing Housewife Eren™ rushing around the cabin/hideout place trying to clean up before Levi's arrival and then he gets mad at Jean for making a mess which was even funnier. Meanwhile, the Boss-Ass B**ches (Mikasa and Krista) were out cutting wood like real providers and it was just so beautiful. Everything was beautiful.Jean: *shook* Why is Mikasa doing work? She's injured.Eren: *so done* I tried to stop her but she insists she's fine.Eren: I even caught her doing situps this morning.Jean: *triggered* wHy WeRe YOu waTcHiNG miKAsA*Meanwhile*Mikasa: *doesn't give a damn* *is awesome*- Levi and Erwin being an old married couple. I am blessed.Levi: *to Erwin* The hell why are you smiling. Stop that. They're so meant for each other.- Levi referring to Mikasa as "That gloomy little brat." Absolute poetry.- That swap thought! I had no idea what was happening, but then Eren's there like "Jean doesn't even look anything like me with that horse face of his."*Meanwhile*Kidnapper #1: Yo, you sure those prisoners are the right ones?KN #2: Yeah man definitely their features are exactly the same10/10. A job well done.- I'm very shook ?? The girl that appeared to Eren and also Krista ?? Who she?? Why does she have powers? (I'm assuming she does because she erased Krista's memories. But why? And how did Eren have a memory of her? Wait. She probably wiped his mind, too. BUT WHY?!)- Sasha being badass and shooting an arrow straight at the gun in that one dude's hand. She deserves so much praise, that food-loving little psycho.
