When Aidan's mom signed him up for this she signed away his privacy, every second of his life is filmed for Mr. Stolkens new TV show, Rich Life. And Aidan is his star. But then Aidan meets Hazel. And she is not in Mr. Stolkens plans for Rich Life. having Hazel as his girlfriend could break his contract, and when the contract is broke they would be slapped with an $ 80,000 fine. Is Hazel worth it all? Join Aidan's Rich Life reality messup. Under The Lens was intriguing from the start. The idea of Under The Lens was so intriguing to me I could stop thinking about it until I bought it. It was a great book. I thought it was going to take a turn for the bad books and have a flaky ending but I was happily proven wrong.I would recommend this book to...Someone who likes small amounts of Romance in their booksSomeone who is 12 or upSomeone who like Realistic-Fiction booksAnyone who likes a fast read
I'd like to thank Renee Carter, the author, for sending me a free kindle copy of this book! One thing about this book: I couldn't put it down. I told myself I could read some and stop before going to bed, then resume my reading the following day. Totally wrong assumption. I kept reading way past my bed time and finished it around past 4 a.m. I'm crazy, I know. But books have that effect on me. I can't help it! I can't lie, though. I didn't like it as much as I liked HIS EYES. The story was good and kept me hooked and interested all the time, but I admit I expected something better. My problem probably were the characters. I liked Aidan and could feel his frustration and stress. I could sympathize with him, because I'd feel the same. I'm a little shy and being recorded on camera all day, for weeks, months, with no privacy, would be HELL. But even worse would be pretending to love someone when all you want is to be with someone else. The other characters I didn't like particularly. I found Hazel a little lame and boring. But I can see why Aidan liked her. Well, not really, but at least she was kind of sweet. Therese annoyed the heck out of me. And she was too aggressive for poor Aidan. And she was a superficial girl. You'll see why, when you read the book. I didn't like her one bit. Aidan's mother was selfish and kinda naive. Well, actually, she was stupid and selfish, mostly. She signed the contract without even reading it!!! And she risked to ruin her son's life with her stupid behavior and dreams to be an actress! Hello! You have a son to take care of! Maybe you should grow up a little! And maybe she did in the end. John is still a question mark. I can't say I liked him, but also that I didn't like him. I was pleased to see a kind of bonding with Aidan though. I liked Emily, for what I could see. Cute little sis. Mr Stolken creeped me out and scared the hell out of me. And he was hateful as hell. And even though everyone in the end got what they wanted, he still won somehow. Because Aidan and his mother did break the contract and had to pay the consequences. The story was good and original. I liked that it was something new and not something read many times in many different books. All in all, a good read and new and interesting.Even though it shows 3 stars, it's actually 3.5. Goodreads should really start adding the half star in the rating.
Thanks to Ms. Carter for sending me a copy of this book! Most of Under the Lens is told from a boy named Aidan's point of view. Aidan's mother, who has always had a dream of becoming a movie star, signs a contract that makes him the star of an online reality show. He is given a a new car, a new bedroom, a new grandfather and even a new girlfriend. The contract Aidan's mother signed states that leaving the show, getting a new girlfriend or anything else that would interfere with Aidan's planned out life would result in an $80,000 fine. Having no money without being on the show, Aidan knows that he must not violate the contract. Then Adian meets Hazel, a young cellist. Dating her would obviously be a violation of the contract.Under the Lens was definitely a great read. I was immediately sucked in to Aidan's world. It was much different from many Young Adult books that I have read and I was extremely grateful for that. So many teens dream of being famous and signing autographs for their thousands of fans. Through Aidan we see that being famous can really suck at times. The characters made the story really enjoyable. Each and every one of them had a completely different personality. Their relationships and "deals" with each other constantly had me wondering if someone was about to be betrayed. The quality of writing was excellent which made Under the Lens very easy to read. I definitely enjoyed this book.4 Stars!
Thank you to the author for providing me with a free proof copy of this book. If you're looking for something not too complex, and with archetypal characters, who don't stray too far from their set roles, than this is the book for you.I found it hard to get in to, but once I did get going the story flowed easily. I liked it to begin with, but I felt the end was a bit rushed. Also I felt like there were points in the story where it seemed like stolken's character was going to be given a bit more depth and motive, and then it didn't happen. I found that disappointing.
Thank you Renee Carter for a copy!I was a bit apprehensive about starting this book because i tend to stay away from such stories. But i surprised even myself when i couldn't stop reading it. Still, His Eyes was definitely better but this was something fresh - new.Short enough yet gets the story across. The characters were funny and relate-able. So many times i caught myself thinking, if i was in such a situation would i have reacted the same way?Fun read!
* I won this through a good reads giveaway* It started out great sucked me in rather easily, then I forced myself to finish as I read on.. It was hard to get a good feel for what was happening after awhile... Everything happened so fast as the book went on that it ended up becoming a chore to read... The plot line was a good idea I just wish it was written better an not rushed.... 237 pages wasn't enough to tell this story...
*** This book received free through Goodreads First Reads ***Are you fond of reality programming? Can't wait for the next installment of The Bachelor or Big Brother? Want a good story to pass the week end? Then this is the book for you. An interesting story line with plenty of twists and turns, yet appropriate for me to pass on to my niece and nephew for a good read without objections from their mother. My kudos to the author ... two thumbs up ... keep up the good work.
i was given this book as a present from goodreads giveaways (idk i just like to think of them as presents) i really liked how the author wrote this book and i think that if your looking for a really light read to read then this is it. however if you want to read something super dramatical then you should keep on looking. this is a really good book though.
I was not all that impressed with this book. I think that it was mostly just too rushed. I was just getting to know that characters and their places in the story and then it ended. It was kind of disappointing, I wanted more back story, more shocking secrets told. It needed something else.
