This is a tragic journey through the life of Jimmy with a stable Pakeha father but an unfaithful Maori mother more interested in playing cards and drinking than caring about her sons. He examines the Maori warrior culture that leaves many in an identity crisis through powerful experiences. This is not any easy read, but an in depth examination at changing cultural circumstances and how they effect people for generations.

Great story. Best insight to pre European age Maori I've ever read.
