The Best Bet Reviews
The Best Bet by Hebby Roman was a fun, energetic steamy romance with a true lesson in life, Love conquers all fears. Ms. Roman has an exceptional talent at developing characters that capture your attention and become engrained in your heart.Rafael has a job interview at UNLV in Las Vegas, but his twin, Damian has other ideas. Damian knows Rafael, a college professor with a good-ole boy image, needs some spice in his life. So he's given Rafael his high roller comp package for the weekend at an exclusive Casino Resort on the strip. One small exception, he has to pose as his brother, Damian.Adriana, is Rafael's personal Casino Resort hospitality manager, assigned to make sure Rafael's stay is perfect. Only one problem, Rafael isn't a high roller and Adriana is very suspicious of his identity. Suspicion or not, sparks immediately ignite between them. As Rafael delves in the betting world that's as foreign to him as anything he's ever tried, Adriana gets to see the real Rafael for the kind, generous man he truly is.... until everything comes unraveled and misunderstandings forces them to part ways.Adriana's been raised in an entirely different atmosphere as Rafael. "He hadn't lived her life, hadn't felt a lack of love or been made to feel guilty for being born"However, Rafael knows he has enough love and patience to prove to Adriana that she is worthy of being loved. Can these two find their happy ever after or are they destined to just be a whirlwind romance? Sometimes it takes a tragic event to open ones eyes. As Adriana faces a family emergency, she realizes what she's truly lost letting Rafael go. "Love and loving were the most important things in the world---not success, not ambition, and certainly not making money. Without love, nothing else mattered."This was absolutely a wonderful book about love, loss, and finding yourself when everyone one else seems to think they already know what you need.
A fun read. When Rafael meets Adriana, he is impersonating his brother. He's attracted to her, but he's not exactly making the best first impression. Adriana is not looking for a relationship. But he intrigues her and he's from out of town so maybe a little fling wouldn't hurt. Rafael is so sweet, though there is some conclusion-jumping that is pretty funny. Some laughs, sweet romance, and misunderstandings. A fun romance read.Review copy provided via Reading Alley in exchange for an honest review.

Low key, shy Rafael is nothing like his enigmatic brother, but since he has a job interview in Vegas anyway, he agrees to extend his trip and act the part of Damian the high roller and not Rafael the college professor. Rafael doesn't expect to meet the stunning Adriana de Los Santos, his guest relations representative at the hotel. He can't stand the thought of lying to her about his identity, but will she still be interested in him when she learns he's a fraud? Will Rafael still be interested when he learns who Adriana is off the clock? THE BEST BET starts out quickly and rolls right into Rafael impersonating his twin brother Damian in a comped trip to Las Vegas. Damian gave Rafael no clue as to what to expect or how to act when being treated as a high roller, so some of the mistakes Rafael makes from his naïveté are amusing. The back and forth manicness between Rafael and Adriana got old VERY quickly though, with him constantly misunderstanding her (despite his supposed specialty in human studies and cultures). The way that Adriana's Latina temper fired up at the least provocation had his Latino machismo on the rise right back, and it turned into a vicious cycle of awkward conversations and angry accusations until I hoped that they would just cut their losses and end the book before it took another wild ride up and down. While the tempers could have served up a hot and crazy affair, THE BEST BET just didn't carry the chemistry that I had hoped for between the MC's. Adriana did everything she could to push Rafael away, and when he would give up and go away, she kept wishing he'd come back...a recipe that turned sour quickly for this reader.
A sensual romance, set against the twin backdrops of Las Vegas gambling and the gorgeous scenery found outside the town, Hebby Roman’s The Best Bet takes a non-betting academic, plunges him into unexpected luxury and expectations, and introduces him to the woman of his dreams. But this is a tale where no one is quite what they seem. The gambler is twin brother to the man who should be staying at the hotel. The efficient and beautiful hostess has serious career plans behind her glamor. And even scheming siblings and domineering parents might have their weaknesses.Equally convincing in bedroom and kitchen, or out on the open plains, The Best Bet brings together two people who are not looking for love, provides believably unexpected chemistry, lights the fire, and waits for trials and tribulations to stop tearing these lovers apart. They’re good characters, with convincing backstories, lightly told. And coincidences, good and bad, will surely unite them in the end. It’s a light, fun read with smart, fun characters and a pleasing touch of sincerity. Enjoy.Disclosure: I found it on a deal and I offer my honest review
