This is the 5th book in the Midnight Hunters series. Be sure to read Books 1-4 first!Book 5 begins differently. Several days have passed since the latest assassination attempt, and Sylvan is depicted as uncharacteristically insecure, withdrawn and sullen because of the death of Andrew and the betrayal by blood-addicted were Ennock, Andrew’s would-be mate. What happened to the hyper-aggressive battle at anytime, be prepared to kill or be killed cartoony character of Sylvan? It just really struck me as out-of-character for the Alpha to mope so much after the loss of a rather minor character in the series.Still, she does recover, returning quickly to her aggressive fight-everyone nature, and action picks up quickly on multiple fronts. Not only is Sylvan now suspicious of the humans, but she suspects treachery by Francesca, as well as a growing threat from another were-clan, led by Bernardo. Raina the cat-were has small parts in the book, but the mercenary cat-were Dru is introduced as an interesting character. Dru reminds us that the cat-were are much more independent than are the wolf-weres. The politicking and empire building/protecting by vampire Francesca continues. Oddly, we don’t hear any further of the “good” humans, Martin and his sister. The love-interest of Michelle and Katya has matured to a believable level, and “The Magic Hunt” does a great job portraying the risk their affections bring to both of them. Two other new pairings develop too: Misha and a Fae (Torren), and Grey finally is attracted to something/someone other than anger in a Blackpaw were prisoner, Tamera. The human scientist Veronica Standish thinks she’s on top of the world with her new lab, subjects and her relationship with Luce….but perhaps she’s mistaken!Oh yes…the “tangling” and vampire orgies continue. Male bodyparts are mentioned and used more frequently than I’d prefer, but everyone is kept quite busy. With some books, I bookmark the steamy scenes so I can revisit them, but with this book I’d have fewer bookmarks if I bookmarked the non-sex scenes! The ending is quite dramatic, and sets things up very nicely for what will be an interesting finale to the series in the next book!I liked this book, and the new characters are interesting….but I think the series is ready to come to an end. There’s only one more book to go, so the author agrees with me! 4.5* rounded up to 5* because it’s worth rereading (relistening….Maxine Mitchell continues to do a fantastic job with the narration of this audiobook!).

Very long awaited book! Loving the series still despite at times I feel there's too much characters going on in the book. It's good though now we see the fae in the picture. Torren's completely a different breed and I do want to see where that leads with Mischa.Absolutely loving the book also because I finally get to see Michel's story with Katya. Michel is one of my most favorite character in the series, she's mysterious, dark, but you can sense that underneath she's loyal and passionate. I'm happy she find Katya in the end and I'd certainly like to see more of her still in future books. Hopefully we'll also get to see more of her past.My only complain is I'll probably have to wait another year to get the next installment!!

"The Magic Hunt," by L.L. Raand is the 5th installment of the Midnight Hunters series. I’ve been a huge fan of this series and have looked forward to each installment. After an assassination attempt, Sylvan Mir, wolf Were Alpha of the Timberwolf Pack, and her mate Drake McKennan vow to protect their own, no matter what the cost, from the government and all others who threaten their survival. In this story, we are introduced to a new person, Fae royal Torren de Brinna. Torren escapes from the vampire dungeon and tries to get back to her people, but finds the doorway closed and is left with only one alternative… request that Sylvan give her sanctuary. However, she didn’t expect to fall in love with one of Sylvan’s young dominate weres, Misha.Let me first reiterate that I love this series. With that said, I struggled, a bit, with the fact that Jody did not have a bigger part in this story. Since this is, most definitely, a war with the Viceregal of the vampires, I felt that Jody should have been a key figure, a liaison between wolves and vampires. However, she was not. In fact, I think she was in all of 5-pages in the whole book. I would have thought there would have been some kind of collaboration between Sylvan, Jody, and Michel. However, there was not.The love story between Katya and Michel continues to grow, which I’m glad to see. They make a good match and I would like to see where this story goes. I also like Misha a lot and think that Torren will be a good mate for her. I hope to see more of these two couples in future installments.I suppose I felt this story was not as complete as the others were. Sometimes, this is acceptable because the next book ties it all together and keeps the edge-of-your-seat entertainment. I’m hopeful for the next book!

This book was absolutely amazing and I couldn't put it down. It took me three hours to read I was so absorbed. The relationship between Sylvan and Drake is absolutely inspiring. I love the way they not only protect the pack with everything they have but watch out for their pups who are absolutely adorable. There were a lot of battles that they had to deal with and new alliances that were made. New species like the fae were introduced and found out. You also had warriors in Sylvans pack who suffered from humans and vampires alike and had to deal with experimentation, some are full of rage and want revenge while others are learning to deal with life and except that miracles do happen. Bernardo is a pain in the ass and will have a little surprise for him. Michel and Jody are awesome and I'm glad that Sylvan has them around. Slowly but surely Sylvans pack members are being mated and it only brings Sylvans pack more numbers and makes them stronger. This book was a page turner,I highly recommend it and can't wait for the next one to come out.

Loved it that she's brought the Fae into this one is great, but not seeing much of Jody and Becca was disappointing. Now we have to wait at least another year for the next one ! :-(

I still love these books and the couples they follow. The author reveals more details of this fantasy world with each new book, and again I am in awe of Radclyffe's imagination. Add in the loving (albeit unusual) couples and some steamy sex scenes and you've got a winner. I am actually kind of depressed that there's only one book left for me to read. Hopefully, the author is working on another but still the wait will be excruciating.

L.L.Raand is an amazing author and this world she has created has been one of the most interesting supernatural worlds I've read about with the vampires, werewolves and now finally the fae have shown up and added a new depth to the story. I'm having some issues with the series however, it seems that she's trying to pair every single character we've been introduced to with someone else and it's starting to become too much, the characters are starting to blend together for me, I remember loving Sylvan and Drake, the romance was so incredible and sexy, a book I couldn't put down, and then book two with Becca and Jody, the cool and mysterious vampire world, so very different than the werewolves, and my beloved villaness Francesca and her second in command Michel, Nikki and the omega Sophia. But now there are even more characters that weren't that significant in the beginning trying to get pair off and it becomes very by-the-numbers and repetitive. Yes the love is forbidden but honestly not for long and hurrah they end up together by the end of the book and I find myself impatiently skimming the pages hoping for more of the story and less of just the character romance which is just blah now.

For me this series is fascinating in the political undercurrent that started with the very first story and has maintained throughout. In The Magic Hunt many questions are finally answered while more pop up keeping the series fresh and engaging. In this installment the Fae are brought into the mix of politics and sides as Torren emerges from Francesca's dungeon and finds sanctuary with Sylvan's pack. The magic of the Fae is intimidating and confusing but is brought along with the help of Misha's character in determining alliances. I'm still enjoying this series and am looking forward to where L.L. Raand will take it next.

Well! She's done it again. Another fast paced exciting instalment to the Midnight Hunters series. It just keeps getting better and better. If you allow your imagination to flow freely, with the authors help, a whole new world opens with it's own rules and regulations. The book is captivating. I guess it could be read on its own but I wouldn't advise it. The series grows from book to book. It would make more sense and be more pleasurable if you read the others first. Enjoy! I'm off to read number six.

This latest installment carries on the main story of Sylvan's Timberwolves and their allies against the Shadow Lords. Whereas I enjoyed the deepening of that story, I was disappointed in a few things. Some of the characters from the past books didn't appear but for a few moments. Also, since this was called The Magic Hunt, I expected more of a story between Misha (a wolf) and Torren (a Fae). I thought there would be more about Faerie and the Fae. Maybe in the next story. I will say that as far as villains go, Francesca ranks up there as one of the nastiest.

Im not really a fan of this one.... It felt like a lot of filler and not much else. There wasnt much of a plot just loads of new character introductions and very little retouching of the already known characters from the previous books. Only Drake and Slyvan had a lot of "screen time" and I found that a little frustrating. Jody Gates barely made an appearance and that was only as secondary detail for winning the fight. Just not really impressed overall.

Great addition to the series. I really hope to see Niki and Sophia solidify their mate bond in the next book and perhaps have a pup of their own. That pup would be related to Nicholas Gregory...wonder how he'd feel about that. Loved Sylvan and Drake's pups, very sweet. Can't wait to see how things shake out now that Sylvan's alliances intersect all the different preternatural species.

People complain about all the new characters, out of all 20 introduced I only dislike 2. Torren was awesome!
