Read more reviews| Find Me on Facebook “Em -Things have been crazy busy lately so I wanted to go old school and put it on paper (this way you can keep it forever) and tell you I love you more than you know.More than the sunMore than the starsMore than breathingMore than life itself.Until the end of forever,JamesWords cannot even express how in love I am with the book Guardian. I can’t even begin to express all the emotions I felt while reading. I laughed, I cried… I cried a lot. I was angry, I was sad… I was happy. I was everything. I have never read a paranormal romance novel that brought so much emotion and story to the book. It was so perfect.“I will never love again the way I was able to love you; you will be it for me.”- JamesThe book starts off introducing us to Emma, a college junior who lost her boyfriend of four years James in a car accident just weeks before. Emma does not eat, she does not go out. She just cries herself to sleep in her room all day and night. Emma & James were best friends that fell in love in high school and planned out their entire life together. James is all Emma knows and now he is gone and never coming back. As Emma cries herself to sleep she relives flashbacks of her relationship with James. It was so hard reading these scenes because you know James is dead and you know how in love these two were. As Emma is grieving she begins to hear Jame’s voice. He sounds as if he is right there telling her he misses her and loves her. Even cracking jokes with her. Emma thinks she is going crazy but soon James appears in front of her. The two act as if their relationship is still going, as if James is still alive. Only Emma can see & hear him. She cherishes the moments James is able to communicate with her.At the same time, Emma begins to smile again and socialize with her best friend Shel. This is when Emma meets Dane and they become friends. Dane is there for Emma helping her cope with losing James and is there to listen to her cries. He is an amazing friend to her but you can tell there is something more between the two even if Emma will not admit it. Dane is amazingly sweet and supportive for Emma; he never pushes her and lets her cry on his shoulder. He waits patiently until she is ready.Emma is trying to keep her relationship with James alive even though he is not. She won’t move on from him and he doesn’t want her to. They still bicker like they are a couple and it’s cute but it’s not healthy for Emma. Their time together was hard to read just because you know there is no way the two of them will get a happy ever after with James being dead. These scenes were the most heartbreaking for me to read.I love James & Emma together but I love Emma & Dane too. James wants so badly to be able to keep his relationship alive with Emma but he realizes he can’t and it’s heartbreaking to read. As much as I loved James visiting Emma he was holding her back from moving on without him. You cannot get over someone dying and still be able to see them every night and tell them you love them. Yes this book is a paranormal romance but as I read I did not see it that way. I know, James is a ghost but it’s so real and so sad it felt real to me. It was so emotional and deep. I can’t even explain how much I adore this book. By the end I was in TEARS, full on tears. What James revealed had me all torn up I had to stop reading just to think! The book ends setting up the next book in the trilogy Allegiant that comes out in the Fall. I must have this book now! I can’t wait until the Fall. I just need Emma & Dane to be together but not break James’ heart at the same time… my heart is just breaking for them.“You have a lot of life left to live.” He says softly, looking at our hands. “You will find love again, as do most people who lose someone. You will build a life with this person; a life you can never have with me.”- JamesGuardian is a MUST READ book. I absolutely love it in every way, the writing is superb and the storyline is superb. I am completely blown away with the story Sara Mack has created for her readers. It is truly original.I give Guardian (The Guardian Trilogy #1) 5 Stars.Book provided by the author in return for an honest review.

4.5 Stars Synopsis:James and Emma are soul mates. They have known each other since they were kids and are planning on being together forever. Until that fateful night that changed both of their lives forever. Now Emma is alone. Why did she have to fight with him? Why did she have to be so stubborn? She should have apologized when he called, should have gone with him. Then maybe he would still be here. Instead he fell asleep at the wheel and flipped his jeep. She will never forgive herself. She is lost and lives in a fog. She won't eat and barely speaks. She won't leave the house and spends most of her time alone. The nightmares keep her awake and her breakdowns come too often. Even she thinks she is going crazy. Especially when she starts hearing his voice. Is he a figment of her imagination or something else? She isn't sure at first, but it doesn't take long to find out the truth. Now she is torn between her undying love for James and the need to move on with her life. But how do you walk away from your soul mate?Review:I received Guardian from the author, Sara Mack, through a Goodreads giveaway. This is Sara's debut novel, so I knew it wouldn't be perfect. After reading the first 2 chapters, I was hooked. This book should come with a warning because it is incredibly heartbreaking. For anyone who has ever lost someone very close to them, this book will make you cry. It flooded me with emotion thinking of my own loss. It is a story of love, loss, and life with a supernatural twist. The story is simple and the characters are real. There were parts where I thought about all the people who would comment about the weirdness of the situation, but in all honesty, there are always haters out there that will pick apart a story. I had to ask myself how I would deal with the situation, and it probably wouldn't have been much different. I don't want to say too much more because I personally hate spoilers, but this is a unique and tragic story.I enjoyed the characters in this story. They are real and written with depth and emotion. They weren't shallow, flat or annoying.Emma is a normal girl and a likable character. She has been dealt a tragic hand and is simply trying to deal with life without James. I thought that she was well written and someone that people could easily identify with.James is sweet and lovable. He loves Emma more than life and has made many sacrifices to be with her. She has no idea the lengths to which he would go to be with her.Shel is Emma's best friend. She is outgoing, fun, and a great friend. I enjoyed her character.Matt is James' friend from school. He does his best to look out for Emma and to come to terms with losing his friend. Dane is a friend of Matt's who takes an interest in Emma. He takes his place in her life as a friend to lean on, but quickly discovers that he feels much more for her.It is a talent to write a story so full of emotion, yet so simple. I read the majority of this book in just a few hours because I couldn't put it down. You are sucked in and have to keep going to find out what will happen. When I finished, I instantly wanted the next book. Unfortunately, it isn't out yet. For how good this book is, I cannot wait to read more from this author. I thank her for allowing me to read this wonderful book and I hope you will too. Happy reading!

Oh. Em. Gee. It has been a loooong time since a book ending has pissed me off that much. Cliffhanger doesn't even describe it. I devoured this book. Absolutely devoured it. It was beautiful, tragic, happy, sweet, and absolutely gut wrenching all tied up into one pretty package. This book was so unique and that is what captured me from the get go. If there was any semblance of a real freaking ending, I would have given this 5 stars. But since we got to the climax with absolutely no resolution, I have to bump off a star. Bring on book two. I need some more Dane in my life!!! I highly recommend this PNR but if cliffhangers piss you off, then I recommend waiting until book two comes out this fall. Either way, you are gonna wanna get your hands on this.

I received this book as an ARC and Guardian, in my opinion, was amazing! Especially for a first time author. There was a lot of heart and dedication put into this book and it shows. The story line is intriguing and catches you from the beginning! Its hard to put this one down. I am can't wait for #2!!!

I meet Sara at a book event. I am so glad that I did . I absolutely love this book. It is of course the first one i have read by this amazing author .Sara has gained a fan . This book was gripping from the first chapter to the very last paragraph. I had to stop reading and take a break to get my emotions back in check. It had me in tears multiple times. It is so very well written and pulled me in .There was times I felt like I was in the storyline feeling what the characters were feeling . This is a book that you have to hide away from everyone to read because you want to be able to feel and let your emotions go. There is just so much in this storyline. I cannot wait to read more from this series and find out what is going to happen with Emma. Absolutely loved it and highly recommend grabbing it and reading it .

Emma is in the depths of despair after the death of her high school sweetheart James. Life is unbearable, and she's frankly just going through the motions that will allow her some space from her very worried loved ones. But things start to get strange when she wonders if she is in fact connecting with James. Her thoughts begin to remind her of her dead boyfriend's voice. She knows he died, and she has to wonder if she's finally losing all grip on reality. This story. Man oh man, did this story bring it. I read Guardian at the insistent recommendation of a good reading buddy who said I just "had to." Sometimes when a series comes so highly recommended, it's easy to be let down a bit or find that it isn't quite as spectacular as all of the praise. Not so with Sara Mack's Guardian trilogy. I think the most stunning thing about this series is that it has the excitement and power of a good Paranormal Romance, but it also uses a mythology that had me as a reader asking pretty deep questions. Namely: If I were Emma, what kind of love would I choose? There are no easy answers in the first book, and I loved the intensity of it. The plot would not have been as moving for me if the characters weren't so solidly believable. You guys, I started this series three days ago, and finished it today. That's one book for each of those days. I was reading before bed and reading before dawn too. So if you want to obsess over a mythology that is refreshingly unique and characters that leave you both swooning and gutted, get this book. And you'll want to request a friend buy their own copy. Just trust me. You're going to want someone to rant, flail, and message with over this one.

*3 stars*Nice story. Well written. The characters are likable although the only the main ones had dimension, the parents and brother felt like ghosts. The scence where (view spoiler)[Patrick attacked Emma (hide spoiler)] was a little dramatic and came out of the blue.James was nice. Him being jealous was kind of expected since he wasn't even able to touch Emma and had no control over things.Dane was nice too. He persued Emma but respected her grief. He was kind of too persistant at times but she gave him hope by (view spoiler)[kissing him back and being flirty (hide spoiler)] so it wasn't entirely his fault.I will eventually give the next book a try. :)

This is the first book I have read by Sara Mack and I was thrilled. She has earned a devoted follower. This is a paranormal, tragic romance, it is a short read. The first book in The Guardian Trilogy. This is a cliff hanger but it is setting up for the next book Allegiant, and I can not wait to devour it. This is such an awesome book, once I started it, I could not put it down. Warning it is an emotional roller coaster, it is beautiful, sad, hopeful and above all gut wrenching. I recommend this to all ages, especially people whom are fascinated with the after life. Depression, grief is so hard to describe and it is done so well and there is no right or wrong way to grieve which is also portrayed, thanks Sara Mack. I can relate to Emma's grief, I know it personally. James is everyone's wish, when they lose someone. The others well I have a love hate relationship with some of them, but you will have to read it for yourself. I will say you will not be disappointed. I am addicted to this book and I can not wait for more. James Davis is in college with his high school best friend, his soul mate, his girlfriend, Emma Donahue. They have a connection beyond compare. They are anxious for the next step in their relationship. When everything changes in the blink of an eye, James passes away tragically. To say Emma's world is turn upside down in an understatement. Emma is consumed with grief, she is lost in her memories of James. Depression is swallowing her whole, her parents are desperate and call in her friend Shel, maybe her best friend can drag her out of the state she is in. Emma starts hearing James voice, and she is worried she is going crazy. When she continues to hear him she is relieved she is sane, well somewhat sane. She doesn't tell her friend Shel, but Shel notices the changes in Emma, she is smiling again. Emma is hopeful with Shel, James' voice, and her new friend Dane that she will be able to heal. Little does she know that James is not done yet... he has so much more in store for her. favorite passages:"Rocks. My chest feels full of them. It's hard to breathe." <3"It's not every day that you decide to tell your best friend that you have feelings for her.""I should have never let him leave." <3"The work keeps my hands and my mind busy when I'm awake; my memory, dreams, and tears keep me occupied while I'm asleep.""You can't tell my daughter how to grieve!" <3"My head snaps up and I jump as if I've been electrocuted. James' voice is clear as day.""You need to release your feelings; it's not healthy to keep them trapped inside," my mom says.""Em -Things have been crazy busy lately so I wanted to go old school and put it on paper (this way you can keep it forever) and tell you I love you more than you know.More than the sunMore than the starsMore than breathingMore than life itself.Until the end of forever,James" <3"I wanted to be...I tried to crawl in...I wanted to be inside with him!" <3"I think you may have melted my heart.""Lets try the bookstore in town, she says.""I have to admit that people watching is one of my favorite activities.""Because we were supposed to be together and we weren't. I will never forgive myself."Silently, I pray the dreams return; I don't want to forget anything. Ever." <3"He has a headstone now. My breath catches at the sight. It seals my reality, and I have a hard time filling my lungs.""You are my true love.""I wish I could tell her Heaven was indeed real-and my piece of it was sitting right here next to me.""Anything for James' girl.""It makes me feel hollow.""I love James. I will always love James. End of story.""There is no set time for grief, is there?" <3"Every time I do, tears immediately jump behind my eyes, and I feel my soul turn inside out." <3

Check out my review at swooningoverbooks.blogspot.com. The Guardian by Sara Mack was an emotional roller coaster. Agony. Despair. Joy. Empathy. Desire. Guilt. Love. So much love. Love so powerful it transcends everything. A love so powerful it is spiritual. The author begin by introducing us to Emma, a college junior who has just lost the most important person in her life. The one person who is the binding thread of her past and the one on which her future was planned on, her boyfriend, James. His death plummets Emma into the depths of depression. Every waking moment she is consumed by grief. Drowning in despair. The nights are worse, however. This is when her subconscious assaults her with the most precious memories. Memories that don't provide comfort, but instead further break her already broken heart. How can she move forward with out him? He was supposed to be hers forever."I love you more than you know. More than the sun. More than the stars. More than breathing. More than life itself. Until the end of forever. Lost in a haze of depression Emma begins to hear James's voice. It is as if he is really there. It is impossible. She must be losing her mind. With the help if her best friend, Shel, she tries desperately to move forward with her life. If not for her sake, but for those around her. Emma allows Shel to drag her shopping, out to dinner, to friendly cookouts, even to get a job at a local gold course. Anything that could potentially distract her from the gaping hole in her heart. Despite her best intentions Emma still can not stop the pain. And the constant hallucinations are not helping. Until... until they are no longer figments of her greif striken imagination, but become a reality. James finds his way back to Emma. His love for her is so strong even death cannot stop him from being with her. He has bargained for a chance to be able to watch over her. An opportunity to remain with her forever. James has become a Guardian."I will never love again the way I was able to love you; you will be it for me." I was sobbing when Emma could finally see James. Love conquers all and such. "Unchained Melody" by The Righteous Brothers played in my mind. I wanted Emma to be happy. I wanted James to swoop in and mend her heart, but it isn't that simple. It never is. Though Emma has James to see in the evening her days are often spent working at the gold course with Dane. Dane is a gorgeous, well to do, son of the club owner. He is kind and sweet and recognizes that Emma needs a shoulder to cry on. What starts as a friendship blossoms into more. Emma struggles with her commitment to James. Spending the rest of her days waiting until they can be together again or move forward, leaving her past and James behind. I was torn by the end. The author had me so emotionally invested with each character that I was conflicted on what I wanted Emma to do. Unsure on who's heart I could bear to see broken. However, in the end the choice was no longer Emma's. I look forward to reading the next book in this trilogy, as well as anything else this author may do in the future.Happy reading!!

I was given this book for an honest review. How I even made it through this book in once piece is absolutely amazing. I cried so dang much I should be embarrassed. By the end of Chapter 2 the tears were forming and Chapter 3 they were streaming down my face. Sweet lord I needed a towel to clean myself up. I cried non stop, this book tore out my heart, stomped on it, cut it up, chewed on it then threw it away. But I really did love it. But let me give you some advice, DO NOT, and I mean DO NOT read this book in public lol.I loved the characters. Sigh Emma, that poor doll I just wanted to wrap her up in a blanket and bring her home so i could take care of her. I loved that although she thought she was broken she was still so strong and was surviving, one day at a time. I want to talk about what happened but I will give it all away and I just can't do that lol. I honestly did feel her grief, her hopelessness, heck I felt it all. At every turn I was either cheering her on or crying with her. So many emotions. And James, oh my...he just warmed my heart. I loved him so much and he just tore me apart. Even though I understood how he felt in parts of the book, I still wanted to shake him something fierce. I fell so in love with this couple and their story. It made me smile at all the sweet times, I laughed at all the fun times and I sobbed like at two year old at the sad times. Ok so mostly I cried, i am sorry i couldn't help it. I tend to be a sensitive person. This is another book that should have a type of "Will Make You Cry" warning label. I liked Shel and Matt but ehh. Now Dane, yes he was all swoony but I swear he has a hidden agenda. I mean I know he wanted Emma to open up to him and give him a chance. I just feel like there is something else there that I am missing. He just came on way to strong for me. Maybe it is all because I am so TEAM JAMES here. So yeah there ya go with the characters.I loved, loved this story. It may have broken my heart but I still loved it. I take notes on the books that I read and so far I have counted 12 notes about me crying. Yeah, I am telling you. Be ready. this story really just knocked me on my rear, I so was not expecting my reaction to it. The writing was fantastic, ok I will admit I kind of skimmed through a couple of pages but it was very few. The story flowed well and it just hooked me right from the start. I needed to know everything right then and there. I am so ready to read the next book. And this time I will have ready supplies, tons and tons of tissue will be available. So Sara Mack, is the next book going to make me cry as bad? Part of me wants it to and part of me thinks if it does, I will definitely need some therapy. And even though I cried a lot, I still thought that this was a great story. Not quite sure I am mentally ready for the next book. My song for this book: Iris by Goo Goo Dolls

Review originally posted on Rach Lawrence Books.*I was provided a copy of Guardian by the author in exchange for an honest review. I am not compensated for my honest opinion.*Overcome with grief after losing the love of her life, Emma Donohue tries to put her life back together with the help of her best friend, a new job, and the interest of new friend Dane. But James’ voice in her head makes her think she’s going crazy. When she sees James—really sees him—she has to decide if hallucinations are taking over her life or if what James tells her about himself is true.Guardian is book one in The Guardian Trilogy and is a paranormal romance between Emma and a new love interest, Dane, after Emma’s boyfriend James is killed in a car accident. The premise of the story was enthralling. James appeared to Emma and explained how he became a Guardian and what that entailed while allowing him to visit her from time to time. But in visiting her, he was also witnessing her life and how she was moving on. Emma was consumed with guilt over James’ death, believing it was her fault, and also didn’t want to move on since she still loved James so much. She had some difficult decisions to make throughout the book.Starting with James’ death, the book backtracked a bit through Emma’s memories to show how their relationship came about. A little too much information was provided while still not truly selling me on their great love. Little tidbits of paranormal activity were hinted at in the beginning, but the first part of the book dragged for me before things really got moving. The story did pick up pace and keep me interested until the end, although I had trouble with the timing of the plot. The entire book took place over about three months, and Emma’s best friend was pressuring her to move on with another guy only a month after James’ death. Dane also was a bit too forward for my liking. He would say he didn’t want to pressure Emma and understood she was grieving, but his actions were entirely contradictory. I did see a bit more connection between Emma and Dane though. There were some editing and formatting problems, but one thing that confused me more than anything was a major part of the paranormal aspect. When James was with Emma, he wasn’t able to touch her. Hands and bodies passed through each other, but then they were able to hold hands, put arms around each other, and kiss. This was a solid plot that left the door open for book two of the series without a cliffhanger but had some definite room for improvement.

    * I received an ebook in exchange for an honest review. * This is author Sara Mack's debut novel and it is amazing! I loved it from the very first page and couldn't put it down until the very last page. I was immediately caught up in the story of Emma and James and wasn't able to stop the tears from flowing down my face as she told the story of their first date, their love and their dreams. I felt like I had lost James myself, that is how emotional the story made me feel. The author was able to make me feel as if I was a part of the story and that I was going through the loss myself. I loved the characters and the way in which the author developed them. She made sure that the reader became invested in them, that they felt her pain and joy and that they knew exactly what kind of a loss Emma had. It is hard to even say that the other characters were "minor" characters - they all had such a complex role in the story! I loved Dane and his humor, Shel and her friendship, Garrett and his wisdom....each one is an amazing addition to the story. The plot was smooth flowing, quickly paced and one that is original to the paranormal romance genre. There were no vampires, no shape shifters and no witches. It was an original tale of humans and guardians. The author used so much detail that I started to wonder if she was a guardian herself... The cliffhanger....all amazing books need one of these....and this one was a doozy! I immediately had to one-click book 2 because I NEEDED to know what happened next in the story - there was no question about buying the next book because these were my friends and I had to make sure that they were ok. The author leads the reader to such a pivotal point and then it ends...I am usually iffy on a cliffhanger but this one worked - and the book is over 300 pages so it couldn't go on forever....although I wanted it to! I know that I say this a lot but this book is a must read and it must be read soon!!! Add this to your TBR list and then fast track it right to the top - don't miss out on this amazing story, unique plot and unforgettable characters! You will be thinking about this book long after you have finished reading it - it is one of those that leaves you with a "book hangover" - no matter what you read after this, no matter how amazing it is, will not compare....just a warning! Make sure you get this book sooner rather than later - it is amazing!! ***Review has been done in conjunction with Nerd Girl Official. (A huge THANK YOU to Sara Mack for allowing me to read and review her book!)Guardian is the first book in a trilogy and starts off with a tragedy. Like most stories, starting off with tragedy is what encourages readers to read on. Well at least it did to me. And I must say I wasn't disappointed. Emma and James have always been close. Growing up best friends and then turning into lovers, they were inseparable and madly in love. When tragedy strikes Emma is left with a hollowness that cannot be filled or replaced. She drowns in depression and is content with staying locked in her room and not living her life. But then her best friend steps in and things start to look up a little. Shelby refuses to let Emma drown in her grief so she concocts a plan to get her out the house and keep her busy. They get jobs and hang out with old and new friends. But Shelby still doesn't reach Emma completely. She helps her forget for a little while but when Emma is alone thoughts of James consume her. Until they become more than thoughts. When James turns out to be a Guardian, a protector, Emma is ecstatic with the change of circumstances and begins to live her life again. But not really. She lives for her time alone with James in her bedroom and refuses to let him leave again. Even if she can't have him in real life she would settle for just having him near. But in real life there is Dane. Sweet, loving and funny Dane. What starts off as a friendship between the two quickly turns into much more for Dane. He really cares for Emma but knows that she will always love James and never open up to anyone else. He settles for helping her through her grief and maybe one day being able to find a place in her heart. But he's fighting against a ghost. One that refuses to leave. Throw into all the fried a psycho ex friend, Guardian will have you wrapped up in its pages. I look forward to reading on and finding out what happens. If I had one wish for future books it would be for Emma to learn to deal with reality. I know that many who read this will be okay with what transpires but to me its unhealthy and I would like to see her get better. I adore James but let's be real, he's dead. Anyways, what are you waiting for? Pick this up and check out Emma, James and Dane's story! Yes Dane because if you haven't noticed I totally adore him! :DHAPPY READING!!

“I love you more than you know. More than the sun. More than the stars. More than breathing. More than life itself. Until the end of forever.”—JamesEmma was a 21 year old college student who had it all. Good family, good friends and a perfect boyfriend she had been with for four years but known all her life. When James is killed in a car accident, Emma is left reeling. But true love never dies. Instead of going to Heaven, James decides to become a Guardian so he can remain with Emma. While he is training with his mentor, Garrett, he is able to appear to Emma and even speak with her. With a lot of concentration, she can even feel his presence. A summer job at the local golf course brings the handsome and wealthy Dane into Emma’s life. Despite the guilt that eats at her, she and Dane become close. When he makes his feelings for Emma clear, she tells him they can only ever be friends because she will always love James.Unfortunately, the novel ends with devastating news that could tear James and Emma away from each other… forever. As Emma moves back to college, she and James are forced apart again yet she is also realizing how much she misses Dane. With two men loving her and only one of them alive, where will Emma’s heart lead her?+++++++++++++++++++++++++I have only recently started to read Paranormal romances again and I’m so glad I did. I ugly cried several times while reading this book, lots of tissues were involved. The love Emma and James share is heartbreaking, considering the circumstances, and beautiful all at the same time. For those who don’t read a lot of paranormal, the concepts in the novel are easy to understand and not overwhelming. It basically boils down to a story of true love and how far you’re willing to go be with the ones you love. I am still emotional as I write this, that is how much I fell in love with all of these characters. Emma is broken but not weak. James does come across as the ‘jealous boyfriend’ but under the circumstances, can you blame him? He loves Emma and is terrified to lose her again. And then there is Dane. I love him too and my heart breaks for him.I wouldn’t call the ending a total cliffhanger but it definitely leaves you wanting more and wondering where the story will lead. I give this book and overwhelming five stars and can’t wait to see what happens next in our paranormal love triangle!

Sara and I are going to have some choice words if Allegiant isn't released soon! lmao Review in progress...8/26/13Where do I begin? This story really got to me. The loss, the love, the struggles. This was a beautifully penned beginning to what I can only imagine will be an outstanding trilogy.Sara Mack creates a vivid world filled with love, loss and the void one feels in their struggle to move forward. Emma Donohue has experienced a world of pain. Her world is shattered when she loses the only man she’s ever loved, James. He is her rock, her life, her love…until he’s gone. But is their love greater than even death?James loves Emma — “until the end of forever.” After he tragically dies, Emma relives many of their memories. Oftentimes, she hears James' voice but somehow it comforts her. She wishes for more of those moments and when they come, she clings to them with every fiber of her being. She wants more than anything to be with him again…Enter Dane, handsome, rich and available….oh right, and not so dead. Emma and Dane grow close and their friendship reaches a crossroads when Dane risks his heart in hopes that Emma is ready to take a leap with him. Even after all she’s been through, he sticks by her and patiently waits hoping she’ll let him in as more than a friend.Although James is dead, Emma battles with her feelings and the guilt eats away at her. My issue with this book... plain and simple… IT ENDED!It ended and my jaw dropped.Seriously Sara Mack is evil! She builds up this fabulous story only to leave you in utter suspense!Yeah Sara, I said it! LOL I was left wondering what in the hell will I do until Allegiant releases????!!!!I fell in love with James, Dane and Emma. Emma will have quite a few decisions to make and I suspect this is just the beginning! I can’t even decide which guy I love more and that worries me because this trilogy could go either way and I don’t know that I could ever hate either of the paths! I am seriously stuck trying to figure out which team to root for! Hopefully Allegiant reveals some of my suspicions.I HIGHLY recommend this book for any New Adult/Paranormal Romance fan. It is an absolutely beautiful story and will have you hooked.*This book was provided to me for free in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and comments are my own.*

Guardian. Sara MackThis is the first book I have ever read by Sara Mack. From just looking at the cover i knew this book was going to be a heart wrenching book and make me need my tissues at the ready."True love never dies"Emma is a college junior, who has lost her boyfriend James of 4 years just a week before. Emma and James were best friends, that fell in love in high school and they knew it was true love and they'd be together forever. Them being together is all each other knows.Emma won't eat, talk to anybody or leave the house. One night whilst crying herself to sleep, she relives flashbacks of her relationship with James. As Emma's moves forward through the grief process, she starts to hear James voice telling her "he misses her" and "loves her" she even thinks she hears him telling her jokes. Emma thinks she is going crazy as soon she starts to think she can see James aswel. As Emma feels James is real still in away, she starts to move forward with her life and starts to socialise again. This is when she meets Dane.I don't want to say any more about the background of the book, as from this point, you need to read it for yourself without anyone else's judgments/knowledge or opinions. It's so emotionally and a amazing journey that needs to be experienced going in blind. This is a paranormal book with a twist. I'm not a fan of Paranormal stories, but to me even though this is "Paranormal" to me it didn't feel that way. It reminded me a lot of the film "Ghost" I devoured this book in one go and I did need the tissues! Lol. It was such a heartbreaking, beautiful, tragic, romantic, sweet, heart wrenching story that you won't be able to put down. The flashbacks of Emma's and James's relationship was the hardest parts to read about. Those parts were the pieces that tore at your heart strings and left you a blubbering mess. Watching a Emma heal with the help of a"Dane" and "James" was lovely to watch. Emma's journey was gorgeous. The characters were great, the story was unique and amazing and the writing flowed brilliantly. This is book 1 of a trilogy, I'll defiantly be reading books 2 and 3 in the series. **Warning: This review contains spoilers**Guardian is an emotional tale of young love that was cut short too early. Emma and James became lovers in high school, and planned a life together. Then, one fateful night, James is killed in a car accident, leaving Emma with a desperate hollowness that she can't seem to fill. She drowns in depression and is content with staying locked in her room and not living her life. The author did a great job conveying emotion in her writing - kudos to her.Emma's best friend, Shelby refuses to let Emma drown in her grief so she comes up with a plan to get her out the house and keep her busy. They get jobs together and hang out with old friends. But Shelby still doesn't reach Emma completely. She helps her forget for a little while, but when Emma is alone, thoughts of James consume her. Then, James turns out to be a Guardian Angel. He appears to Emma, who at first thinks she is going crazy, but soon is overjoyed that she can be with James. Kinda. They can't feel each other's touch, but Emma doesn't care; she just to be with him in any way she can.But in real life there is Dane. I love Dane! At first, I was hoping that some way Emma and James would be able to be together somehow, but then Dane came in the picture. He and Emma start falling for each other, but Emma can't get over her guilt and love for James, even after Dane saves her life. It honestly broke my heart that Emma barely gave him a chance, and I really wanted her to heal and end up with Dane. I've never lost a significant other, so I can't say how I would handle the situation. But after months, I would think that you can't continue to hold on to someone you can never be with again, and close yourself off to love for the rest of your life, so I was frustrated with Emma since Dane was such an amazing guy - he was like perfection wrapped up and gifted to her, and she basically threw him away. Even though, I was not happy with how that turned out, I'm anxious to see what happens in the next book, and I hope that Dane and Emma will end up together. I give Guardian 3.5 Stars!~Nikki N.

Reviewed for Reader's Favorite. How do you deal when everything has collapsed around you? At least to Emma, the whole world has collapsed and there is no reason to go on, her boyfriend James has died and she has no will to carry on. Her family and friends are worried, so her best friend Shel comes to stay for awhile, and tries to make Emma face life again. Which might have worked, if only James' spirit hadn't started talking to Emma. Now she is trying to let everyone around her think she is fine and moving on, while she is living just to spend time with James' spirit. Guardian is the position that James agreed to take in able to remain as a spirit on earth and be able to watch over Emma, the problem is, he is not suppose to be spending so much time with her, he is supposed to be training and learning to be a Guardian to someone. Author Sara Mack creates an amazing tale of young love, cut short by death, and the effects of choices on life afterwards.Guardian is said to be the first in a series, which is good, because a number of questions are left unanswered in the first book. In this book though, we learn a great deal about James and Emma's relationship through flashbacks and dreams, which are well written and fit into the story wonderfully. From the start you find yourself feeling for Emma, crying along with her, wanting to help her heal, liking James coming back and then becoming not so sure about it. There is the side story of their friends Shel and Matt, and you find yourself enjoying that story and understanding Emma's frustration at first, but wanting the same for her again. It is a complex and deep story with a number of layers and some unexpected events that you don't see coming. I feel comfortable recommending this book to all ages of readers, given parental consent, there is no sex and only the reference to the accident and one fight scene, but it is not graphic. I feel it is a great story to read and talk about with your teens and such. Enjoy readers!

Experience James, Emma, and Dane's story in one complete collection! Book 1 ~ Guardian Tragedy struck and took the love of Emma's life. She can't erase the pain that consumes her heart. Her best friend Shel comes to visit to help her heal and it starts by visiting Jame's grave. Emma continues day by day and her heart is mending slowly but then all of a sudden she is hearing a familiar voice, the one she thought she would never hear again. Until the voice in her head turns out to be more...so much more...I came across this trilogy sold as .99 a few days ago and it was it is story I that will consume your heart. This trilogy will bring not only the supernatural within but also a love triangle and different friendships. Fair warning, first two books have major cliffys but great news is that all 3 books are out today! Meet the Charmed, Larvatus, Allegiants and the Guardians of The Guardian Trilogy!

This book was interesting to read. The title of the book is an excellent name for it. It jumps right into the story and you are wondering at times in the beginning of the book what is going on but just keep reading cause the book will not let you be lost for long. Emma is the main character in this book and you find out from the get go that something happened that has left her broken. And when I say broken I mean broken. Her friend Shel tries and break her out of the slump she is in by getting a job together. They are both in college and are on summer break. So a summer job is just what she might need. But when they go out one night to celebrate one night they run into one of their old high school friends Matt. Well come to find out Shel and Matt have a thing for each other. Which in other words Emma becomes like a third wheel, then Matt goes to their job with his buddy Dane and you can tell that Dane has the eye for Emma. But is the feeling mutual. That is one reason you need to read this. But lets throw something else in that will have your head spinning. James the person that Emma really cared about died and somehow has came back from the grave. So here is Emma sitting in here room having a conversation with someone that she can only see. Um weird, yea I would have to say so but she finds out that James decided to become a Guardian instead of taking the scroll onto heaven. So now that its getting interesting and your wondering what the crap is going on I will have to say go by this book by Sara Mack and see how good this book is. It is a good read and will keep you interested in reading the book. I will say though that there better be a second book to this or I will be one mad guy. It ends kinda on a cliff hanger and you are wanting the book not to end. So on that I give this book a honest four star review.

Emma’s life is going perfectly. She is going to college, has a boyfriend that she loves and he loves her. She wishes they were going to the same college, but James got a scholarship to another school. An incident at her college with another boy causes James to leave his college, against his parents’ wishes, so he could be close to Emma and be there to protect her. They got into an argument one night and James calls Emma to let her know he was on his way, except he never showed up. She later learns he was involved in an accident and didn’t survive. Her life changes dramatically after that and she sinks into a deep depression. Her parents even have her best friend, Shel, come and stay with them to help Emma through her depression. Emma and Shel get a job at a golf course and Emma meets Dane. They become friends and even start going out on dates. Emma hears James’ voice and she thinks she is losing her mind or that it is playing tricks on her. She doesn’t know how to react to this and is afraid to tell anyone. Only for her to learn there is much more to this and she isn’t losing her mind. James is her Guardian, but she isn’t supposed to be able to hear him or see him, but she does. Guardians have certain rules they have to follow and if they don’t, they can be repurposed. Will James be able to follow the Guardian rule, the one rule that is the hardest, the one rule that says he can’t love Emma anymore? What will happen between Emma and Dane now that James is back? What will Emma do about James now that Dane is in the picture? There is a lot more to this story, and I don’t want to give away a spoiler or too much information. This is a great read that will have you confused on who to root for. Do you root for James, the love of her life since high school, or do you root for Dane, the friend that turned into more and helped her move on?

OMG! what did I just read?!! That was seriously one of the most amazing books I've ever read. First of all, I fell in love with the characters almost instantly. Emma is best friends with James. They've been best friends for a really long time. So of course, feelings(more than friends feelings) start to emerge and they become a couple. James is a star football player at their high school and gets a scholarship to college, but Emma doesn't get accepted to the same one. They work it out for a while but eventually James leaves to be with Emma(because of certain circumstances I won't say. Don't want to give too much away) But one night Emma and James get into an argument, James leaves and never comes back. Its been a month sinces James died. Emma is back at home with her parents. And being back at home she gets to be around old friends(Shel and Matt, who all hung out together in highschool). Shel!! She is a pretty amazing friend. She helps Emma a lot through the story. Matt, he really is a caring guy and helps a lot too. But my favorite is a new friend, Dane!! *swoons* Mmm Dane. Yes, he's sexy and intriguing, and maybe a little mysterious at times but I think he helps Emma more than anyone. And he really likes Emma, a lot. ( maybe its mutual??!) And then of course things get complicated when james comes back(kinda) as a Guardian. She can see and talk to him again, but they can't touch, not really. All she feels when he touches her is a coldness. There are so many amazing moments in this book, I don't want to give them all away. But this book is a must read, a MUST! This book also addresses issues that could help in other peoples life. Like to learn how to move on from hard and traumatic moments in life, always try to have a good time, and know its okay to love again. :) I.Need.Book.Two.Now!

True love never dies.Emma Donohue begs to differ. When a late night accident claims the love of her life, Emma secludes herself in memories of James. In his sandy brown hair and clear blue eyes. In their innocent first kiss and declarations of love. In their plans for a life together after college. But happy dreams can’t rid her of the guilt she carries. She can’t erase her actions the night he died. She can’t erase her reaction at his funeral. And she can’t erase the hollow void that fills her chest and consumes her heart.I won a copy of this book through a Facebook giveaway provided by Sara Mack.I wasn't too sure about this book when I entered to win it. It seemed to...mushy...for lack of a better word, for me. But I figured if I won, it would be the reading gods way of telling me to read it and boy am I glad that I did! Once I clicked on that first page, I read more than half of it in one sitting! I loved the main character, Emma. She reminded me a lot of myself at her age and I can't say that I wouldn't have reacted any differently if I had lost the love of my life at that age.I loved the way that Mack was able to weave real emotions into this fantasy romance and keep me engaged and caring about what happens next.

You know what they say. True love never dies. Emma is dealing with the emotional tragedy of losing the love of her life, her high school sweetheart James. As the story progresses you will take an emotional rollercoaster ride with her. Ms. Mack did a great job of writing the characters that will have you feeling all the sadness, anguish, and even moments of happiness in this story. What takes this story to another level is the paranormal elements. It is so much more than Emma hearing James voice. As this helps her start to heal it opens the story to elements of paranormal that she discovers about Guardians. You will even feel for James as he deals with his death and afterlife. I will be honest and say that I had mixed feelings about Emma hearing James, at times it felt like it was holding her back from healing but that ended up being farther from the truth. I feel that I am reading a good book when you are invested in the characters and your emotions are constantly changing as you turn pages. You will get that with this book. I can't wait to read the other books.I received a gift copy in exchange for an honest review. Read and reviewed for Kylie's Fiction Addiction.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It has a supernatural/paranormal spin, but comes across as very grounded in everyday life. Emma is characterized as a quiet, reserved, and slightly self-conscious college girl who is stricken by grief. She's totally relatable, and I instantly found myself feeling sympathy for her after what she had to endure. I have to say that I'm not typically a fan of paranormal stories, but this author did a fantastic job of weaving it seamlessly into a love story in such a way that I was rooting for the characters during both the human and non-human issues they faced. The writing in Guardian is excellent, which was refreshing after reading a number of other self-published books with typos and grammatical errors. This author clearly pays attention to the little details while telling a captivating story. The excerpt for the next book in the trilogy is intriguing. It looks like we'll be introduced to new characters and dive deeper into the supernatural, which I'm looking forward to. I also can't wait to see what becomes of Emma's love triangle because surely these two men aren't totally out of the picture just yet, right?

This book was amazing, I honestly don’t know what took me so long to take the plunge and read it! I love a good paranormal book, but more often then not they fall in the category of YA; however, this book is NA so its a win all around! The book starts out confusing and you find yourself asking what is going on? Well, I believe Sara Mack did that on purpose because you have to keep reading to figure out the pieces and get the answers. Emma is struggling, she is sinking into depression and drowning in grief. Then there is sweet James who meet me in memories, in voices, and in so many other ways.I love James, and here is the part where you know its going to be good, because I equally kinda love Dane too. It starts to get the love triangle going, and normally I am very one sided on these and have a distinct image in my mind as to who Emma should end up with but in this case I do not. I still have alot of unanswered questions but I can guarantee this book will suck you in, make you fall in love, and leave you wanting more. Check it out!
