What better book to post on Valentine's Day? Dogs can be the truest loves of our lives, and this collection of twelve short stories by an impressive array of middle grade authors shows how a variety of these relationships start. Centered around the Pawley Rescue Center, the stories are not connected, but all deal with dogs from that facility. I'm never good with describing short story collections, so consult the Goodreads description:Strengths: This is a good choice for reluctant readers, since they can break the book down into the stories. They are all easy to follow and realistic. Many of my reluctant readers do like animal books, and perhaps if they like particular stories, they would be more inclined to investigate the other writings of the author.Weaknesses: Short story collections are not popular in my library, but I think the very appealing cover will win over readers.

Solid library purchase which will be enjoyed my dog lovers reading early chapter books. Twelve short stories about dogs finding their homes. The stories were often predictable and somewhat flat due to the story length. Bio of each author included at the end of the chapters. Book also includes information about RedRover charities.

183 pages. I read the first 15 pages and it was so BORING! No real plot to this one, just a puppy dropped off by an old person who was going to a nursing home and couldn't keep it. No real plot. BORING! Not recommended for ES.

I really liked the stories, from the POV of a Pomeranian, to the competition of two twin girls. This book has tales of children, dogs, and the Pawley Rescue Center.

When I read stories like those in this collection, I often wonder who's being rescued--the dogs or the humans or maybe both. Twelve dog-loving authors tell various stories about canines at the Pawley Rescue Center and how they found their forever homes. Keep a box of tissues handy since these stories will wrench the heart of just about any reader. There's something for just about everyone here too--a story about loyalty among the dogs at the shelter, one concerning a Pomeranian who thinks of her best friend even while she finds a comfortable home, and there's even a story about how a dog named Beatrice helped her human companion make friends with the bully who had been giving him a hard time. The stories are quite short, easy to read, and thankfully, have happy endings. To make things even better, royalties from the book are donated to an animal welfare nonprofit organization. Next up: Short stories about rescued cats!

Beautiful book with 12 stories of dogs that have been rescued and the owners that find and love them.It is an easy book to read and each story lends itself to a theme of never ending love we receive from our pets, particularly dogs. Dog lovers will really enjoy each short selection all by different writers. There are no illustrations but the written descriptions are enough to let the reader see the dogs and how the owner feels they are just right for them. The story with the twins ending up working together to get a dog with the twist of a forgotten dog from their infancy and my mom was not ready for a dog had a really good twist.

This is a collection of twelve short stories by popular authors about the Pawley Rescue Center that places rescued dogs in the perfect home with the perfect owner. Readers will enjoy this collection of dog stories. Each and every story deals with special need- either human or canine. The stories are fairly short and easy to read. The characters are realistic and human. Independent readers will enjoy the wide variety of storylines. This would be a great addition to the library.

This is a great collection of stories for dog lovers. Each story is set around the Pawley Rescue Center and written by different authors. Sometimes the dog tells the story and other times the child who wants to adopt a dog tells the story. Each story is full of heartfelt warmth for all animals at the shelter waiting for adoption. A great addition for dog lovers.
