Close Enough Reviews
A fabulous end to this really great series. I wondered what would happen to Isabella & Nat after the last installment and I am glad that they get thru all of their insecurities and fear and get their HEA.Liked how the relationship between Alex & Maddie has progressed. They are such a lovely couple. No one writes better, hotter and sexier love scenes like Harper Bliss and this series proves it.Engaging characters, great setting, nice plot and in a way quite sad that this is the last we will see the two couples again. Thanks Harper for another fabulous story.
The fourth book from the 'High Rise' collection brings Isabella and Nat front and center once again. I do suggest reading the first three books before this one, but essentially book two which fully introduces these main characters. Nat pulls an unfortunately characteristic betrayal. Isabella knows she has deep feelings for Nat, but she slams the door in her face as soon as she is fully cognizant of Nat's unfaithfulness. I felt as blasted as both the primary characters. However, that is what made this story so endearing, heart throbbing, and salubrious. It was a super delightful conclusion to the aggregate stories, a completely delicious and enlightening experience. This last story especially, but in fact all the four are not to be missed!Nat is a wounded child living in a thirty-five year old body. She believes she is incapable of finding and sustaining another complete loving partnership. I think in this arena she is a bit of a fool, but only because she has not worked through the trauma she experienced almost four years ago. On all other fronts, she is a sparkling and supremely passionate adult. This is an excellent rendering of how not facing one's fear can be an intolerable and self-destructive avenue that invariably does not allow one to cope with their own qualms. Isabella is somewhat dismayed with herself for how unsuccessful she is when attempting to completely turn her back on Nat. She does recognize that she is deeply in love with Nat and even as a trained psychiatrist, she is subject to the tumultuous ebb and flow of this powerful human condition. The remarkable jousting matches that fuel the tension and heat things up to stupefying levels are exhilarating eye-opening events. The use of the clearly delineated change of viewpoints worked better than ever in this final story. It was as if I melded completely with Isabella and then Nat. Fantastic! The emotional roller coaster ride in this final story was more than a trip and a half. The icy stares and cold disdain were startlingly powerful. Then, when these two were on the same page, the sex was blistering and thunderous. The entire spectrum from ardent fervor to glacial vehemence as Isabel barrels toward her fiftieth birthday simply left me breathless. What a brilliant conclusion and realignment for the four participants and especially for Nat and Isabella. Magnificent!NOTE: This book was provided by Ladylit for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews.
Is it though? Is it close enough? Nat is still a slag slut screwing around on Isabelle. It's distressing as well as disappointing. Nat is clearly not good enough girlfriend material for Isabelle.Isabelle is crushed by Nat's callous flaunting of her infidelity. Nat is a slut. There is no other word to describe her. She's a drunken slut spreading her legs for any rabid fan to slide right in. It's quite disgusting. I have absolutely no respect for Nat. Her so called "issues" are crazy to me. Still, this story is hot. I love Isabelle and her squirting ability. I also enjoy watching Nat trying to make up for her stupidity. She got off a little too easily. The story is tightly written and a quick read. Ms. Bliss is my go to gal for hawt girl on girl action. Recommended for the F/f lovers who enjoy a bit of angst with make-up sex.
High Rise Novella FourAfter the devastating break up with her former lover, Nat finds it impossible to make a commitment to anyone. Nat loves Isabella, but because of her fear of commitment, she betrays her in the worst possible way.Isabella wants a loving relationship and a commitment. She knows she probably won’t get one from Nat, but she isn’t ready to give up on her entirely just yet. Although Nat has badly hurt Isabella, she finds herself still being drawn to her.Isabella and Nat have to try to find some sort of neutral ground. But are their personalities and life styles simply too different for a stable relationship to work between them? This is another winning story, the last in the High Rise series, from Harper Bliss. These novellas are short, sweet and very well written. Set in Hong Kong in and around an upmarket apartment block named The Ivy, they are all about a group of four friends and their lives and relationships. This final story features Nat and Isabella, but does include Alex and Maddie as well. All these characters are loveable and multidimensional. We read of their problems and vulnerabilities and their on going relationships. Sometimes heart breaking, sometimes amusing, but very hot, always very hot with plenty of hot sexy scenes. I would advise buying the whole series to read. Although this book could be read as a standalone, you won’t get the impact and the whole wonderful story featuring the four friends unless you read them all. I’m saving these in my favorites folder to re-read. I love this group of friends, the settings and their camaraderie. One problem......... Now I’m desperate to visit Hong Kong, the place sounds amazing.
There isn't much more that I can add to the other three reviews I have written about the books in this series. In this one, Nat and Isabella work on repairing their new relationship after Nat is caught with another woman. Normally I detest cheating in romance books but in this case it happened when the relationship was so new they were not fully committed to each other yet. This looked like the end, but the sexy path they took toward reconciling made for a great love story.Harper Bliss made these two couples in the series seem like friends the reader has known for a long time. There was a perfect blend of tender romance and very hot sexual scenes that readers will certainly enjoy reading this series. Excellent book to end an excellent series.
