She then finds herself in another kind of limbo, waiting for a visa in a refugee camp set incongruously among picturesque Austrian grape fields. Jitka is soon initiated into the mysteries of camp life - from the dangerous but seductive Hilton, home of the camp's single men, who outnumber the single women by almost 1,800 to 17, to the art of making up a story good enough to get you asylum in Canada. A young woman cannot bear to endure the limits on her life in Communist Czechoslovakia. She is young and idealistic. Her passion for travel and adventure take her to a refugee camp in Austria where she waits for 2 years before she is accepted to immigrate to the United States. Most of the story takes place at the camp. You overhear conversations of other Czech & Slovak immigrants. You experience the good, the bad, and the ugly side of "freedom." A quick and facinating read.

Pekárková je ďábel. Rychlé, čtivé, syrové, nechutné.
